China, the world’s biggest car market, plans to ban the production and sale of diesel and petrol cars and vans.

The country’s vice minister of industry said it had started “relevant research” but that it had not yet decided when the ban would come into force.

“Those measures will certainly bring profound changes for our car industry’s development,” Xin Guobin told Xinhua, China’s official news agency

China made 28 million cars last year, almost a third of the global total.

Both the UK and France have already announced plans to ban new diesel and petrol vehicles by 2040, as part of efforts to reduce pollution and carbon emissions.

Chinese-owned carmaker Volvo said in July that all its new car models would have an electric motor from 2019.

Geely, Volvo’s Chinese owner, aims to sell one million electric cars by 2025.

Other global car firms including Renault-Nissan, Ford and General Motors are all working to develop electric cars in China.

Automakers are jostling for a slice of the growing Chinese market ahead of the introduction of new rules designed to fight pollution.

China wants electric battery cars and plug-in hybrids to account for at least one-fifth of its vehicle sales by 2025.

The proposals would require 8% of automakers’ sales to be battery electric or plug-in hybrids by next year, rising to 12% in 2020.

Xin predicted the change would create “turbulent times” in the industry.

The shift will also have a knock-on effect on oil demand in China. The country is currently the world’s second-largest oil consumer after the US.

to Maximize Your Marketing Success Today

    Low cost business ideas

“Guerrilla marketing embraces 360 degrees of communication, reaching target audiences in as many ways as are affordable and possible. Your task as a guerrilla is to be aware of all the marketing weapons available to you, to experiment with many of them, and then to identify the combination of weapons that provides the highest profit to you.”

    By Jay Conrad Levinson

The Official Guerrilla Marketing – bringing Guerrilla Marketing methods to the world.

    – founded by Jay Conrad Levinson in 1984

How can Guerrilla Marketing help you get maximum results for minimum cost?

It focuses you on low cost, high profit creative marketing. Its basic requirements are time, energy, and imagination and not money. Sales are not the primary metric to measure business success, instead profit is the measurement. Guerrillas place emphasis on retaining existing customers instead of solely focusing on acquiring new ones.

The concept of Guerrilla business began as the book Guerrilla Marketing . This first book was published in 1984 and it was created to help small business succeed against large and established competitors with large advertising budgets. Guerrilla Marketing started a movement that lead to over 50 books, published into 62 languages and selling over 21 million copies around the globe.

Your job as a Guerrilla: make every single moment of the experience satisfying, simple and worthwhile for the customer. When you do that, you’re truly a practitioner of Guerrilla Marketing

Today, we are even more passionate than in 1984, about the success of businesses and most importantly the people who run them. Utilizing time, energy, imagination and not money remains core to the Guerrilla mindset and we provide the tools to help you develop and expand that mindset so you can exceed.

    The 100 Startup, free business plan.#Free #business #plan

    free business plan

    Free business plan

Imagine a life where all your time is spent on the things you want to do.

Imagine handing a letter to your boss that reads, “Dear Boss, I’m writing to let you know that your services are no longer required. Thanks for everything, but I’ll be doing things my own way now.”

Imagine that today is your final day of working for anyone other than yourself. What if—very soon, not in some distant, undefined future—you prepare for work by firing up a laptop in your home office, walking into a storefront you’ve opened, phoning a client who trusts you for helpful advice, or otherwise doing what you want instead of what someone tells you to do?

All over the world, and in many different ways, thousands of people are doing exactly that. They are rewriting the rules of work, becoming their own bosses, and creating a new future.

    Free business plan

In The $100 Startup, Chris Guillebeau shows you how to lead a life of adventure, meaning and purpose — and earn a good living.

Still in his early thirties, Chris is on the verge of completing a tour of every country on earth — he s already visited more than 175 nations — and yet he s never held a real job or earned a regular paycheck. Rather, he has a special genius for turning ideas into income, and he uses what he earns both to support his life of adventure and to give back.

There are many others like Chris — those who ve found ways to opt out of traditional employment and create the time and income to pursue what they find meaningful. Sometimes, achieving that perfect blend of passion and income doesn t depend on shelving what you currently do. You can start small with your venture, committing little time or money, and wait to take the real plunge when you re sure it s successful.

In preparing to write this book, Chris identified 1,500 individuals who have built businesses earning $50,000 or more from a modest investment (in many cases, $100 or less), and from that group he s chosen to focus on the 50 most intriguing case studies. In nearly all cases, people with no special skills discovered aspects of their personal passions that could be monetized, and were able to restructure their lives in ways that gave them greater freedom and fulfillment.

Here, finally, distilled into one easy-to-use guide, are the most valuable lessons from those who ve learned how to turn what they do into a gateway to self-fulfillment. It s all about finding the intersection between your expertise — even if you don t consider it such — and what other people will pay for.

You don t need an MBA, a business plan or even employees. All you need is a product or service that springs from what you love to do anyway, people willing to pay, and a way to get paid

Not content to talk in generalities, Chris tells you exactly how many dollars his group of unexpected entrepreneurs required to get their projects up and running; what these individuals did in the first weeks and months to generate significant cash; some of the key mistakes they made along the way, and the crucial insights that made the business stick. Among Chris s key principles: if you re good at one thing, you re probably good at something else; never teach a man to fish — sell him the fish instead; and in the battle between planning and action, action wins.

In ancient times, people who were dissatisfied with their lives dreamed of finding magic lamps, buried treasure, or streets paved with gold. Today, we know that it s up to us to change our lives. And the best part is, if we change our own life, we can help others change theirs. This remarkable book will start you on your way.

Government Small Business Loans, loan for small business.#Loan #for #small #business

    Government Small Business Loans

Government small business loans help put your own business within reach. First there’s the quest for a decent location, then comes building a customer base, followed by all the initial hiccups of generating a cash flow before your business grows roots and gains momentum. The beginning of a business is crucial because it’s when you gain or lose market credibility. If you disappoint your customers, they may not give you a second chance. If your business gets off to a rocky start (most do), and you believe you can recover but need further financing to make this happen, you can apply for government small business loans.

For-profit lenders are reluctant to issue loans to anyone who does not have a strong credit report and financial history. That is not the case with government small business loans. Obviously, a decent credit report is important, and you will have to follow the guidelines regarding the repayment period and the interest rate set by the government, but usually the interest rates charged by government loans are lower than those you could expect in the private sector.

More about Government Small Business Loans

Government loans are typically offered through banks and credit unions that partner with the Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBA is a U.S. government body, with the motive of providing support for small businesses and entrepreneurs. For each loan authorized, a government-backed guarantee offers serious credibility, since the lender knows that even if you default, the government will pay off the balance. These loans can be applied to a number of uses, such as:

    • Purchase of new equipment, machinery, parts, supplies, etc.
    • Financing leasehold improvements
    • Commercial mortgage on buildings
    • Refinance existing debt
    • Establishing a line of credit

Government small business loans benefit both small businesses and the lending agency. For small businesses, it is beneficial because this is money capital they may not have access too. For banks, the loan’s risk is decreased due to the loan being backed by the SBA.

    Different SBA Government Loans

The SBA extends financial help through various lending programs it has to offer. Some of the more popular loans are:

    • 7(a) Loan Guarantee Program: aimed primarily in helping a small business start or expand its services. The maximum size of such a loan is $5 million.
    • MicroLoan Program: mostly used for short-term purposes, such as purchase of goods, office furniture, transportation, computers, etc. The maximum amount is fixed at $50,000.
    • 504 Fixed Asset Program: featuring fixed-rate and long-term financing, these loans are aimed at applicants whose business model will benefit their community directly, either by providing jobs or bringing needed services to an underserved area. Again, the maximum amount is $5 million.
    • Disaster Assistance: under this program, loans are sanctioned to renters or homeowners with a low-interest, long-term plan for the restoration of property to its pre-disaster condition.

In most cases, maintaining a good business credit report is enough to qualify. In addition, it instills confidence not only in the lender, but also in you. There is at least one SBA office in every state in America. If you contact them regarding the startup status of your business model and plan, you can get started on a government small business loan that will give you the financing to make your dreams a reality.

Disaster Recovery Planning (DRP), Business Continuity Plan (BCP) Template, business plan template.#Business

    Business Continuity Planning

Business plan templateBusiness Continuity Planning is the way an organization can prepare for and aid in disaster recovery. It is an arrangement agreed upon in advance by management and key personnel of the steps that will be taken to help the organization recover should any type of disaster occur. These programs prepare for multiple problems. Detailed plans are created that clearly outline the actions that an organization or particular members of an organization will take to help recover/restore any of its critical operations that may have been either completely or partially interrupted during or after (occurring within a specified period of time) a disaster or other extended disruption in accessibility to operational functions. In order to be fully effective at disaster recovery, these plans are recommended to be regularly practiced as well as outlined.

In layman’s terms, a Business Continuity Plan or BCP is how an organization guards against future disasters that could endanger its long-term health or the accomplishment of its primary mission. BCPs take into account disasters that can occur on multiple geographic levels-local, regional, and national-disasters like fires, earthquakes, or pandemic illness. BCPs should be live and evolving strategies that are adjusted for any potential disasters that would require recovery; it should include everything from technological viruses to terrorist attacks. The ultimate goal is to help expedite the recovery of an organization’s critical functions and manpower following these types of disasters. This sort of advanced planning can help an organization minimize the amount of loss and downtime it will sustain while simultaneously creating its best and fastest chance to recover after a disaster.

    Disaster Recovery

Business plan templateDisaster Recovery (DR) is the process an organization uses to recover access to their software, data, and/or hardware that are needed to resume the performance of normal, critical business functions after the event of either a natural disaster or a disaster caused by humans. While Disaster Recovery plans, or DRPs, often focus on bridging the gap where data, software, or hardware have been damaged or lost, one cannot forget the vital element of manpower that composes much of any organization. A building fire might predominantly affect vital data storage; whereas an epidemic illness is more likely to have an affect on staffing. Both types of disaster need to be considered when creating a DR Plan. Thus, organizations should include in their DRPs contingencies for how they will cope with the sudden and/or unexpected loss of key personnel as well as how to recover their data.

Disaster Recovery Plans are generally part of a larger, more extensive practice known as Business Continuity Planning. DR plans should be well practiced so that the key players are familiar with the specific actions they will need to take should a disaster occur. DR plans must also be adaptable and routinely updated, e.g. if new people, a new branch office, or new hardware or software are added to an organization they should promptly be incorporated into the organization’s disaster recovery plan. Companies must consider all these facets of their organization as well as update and practice their plan if they want to maximize their recovery after a disaster.

    BC / DR Plan Steps

Business plan templateBusiness continuity / Disaster Recovery Plans come in various forms, each reflecting the corporation’s particular set of circumstances. The following are some of the general step required to develop and implement a plan.

Policy Statement (Goal of plan, reasons and resources Business Impact Analysis (how does a shutdown impact the business financially and otherwise) Identify Preventive Steps (can disaster be avoided by taking prudent steps) Recovery Strategies (how and what you will need to recover) Plan Development (Write plan and implement plan elements) Plan buy-in and testing (very important so that everyone knows the plan and knows what to do) Maintenance (continuous changes to reflect current situation)

A new book traces the changing face of locally influenced architecture across the globe and considers how it can contribute to a sustainable future

Habitat, is a beautifully produced book edited by Sandra Piesik, which considers how builders across the planet adapt to local conditions to produce a unique style of vernacular architecture influenced by their surroundings. The book illustrates how indigenous people and communities have learnt lessons over time and adapted to their environment while making the most of the materials at hand. This results in constantly changing styles of architecture which shift seamlessly as the locations change. This is all displayed with over 1,000 illustrations and a huge array of detailed maps, diagrams and essays as well as a detailed reference section. Entrepreneurship in the Classroom

    Entrepreneurial ideas

Allow innovative ideas to spark and grow to create an entrepreneurial culture.

    Entrepreneurial ideas

How to Implement in the Classroom

Leverage available resources and make a plan that works for your individual school.

    Entrepreneurial ideas

    National Entrepreneurial Education Standards

Nationally accepted entrepreneurship content standards and performance indicators.

    K-12, Every Student, Every Year

In this age of educational accountability through standards and assessments with only one right answer and success measured by test scores, we need to keep young minds open for alternative ways of thinking, allow innovative ideas to spark and grow, to create an entrepreneurial culture that will grow great people and great communities. We need to grow our communities from the inside out. We need entrepreneurship education for every student, every year. The answer is to establish an entrepreneurial culture in every school and every community.

    Entrepreneurial ideas

    Entrepreneurial ideas

    How to Implement

There is no step-by-step process, no list of easy-to-follow guidelines. Each faculty should examine their own knowledge, interests and available resources and make a plan that works for that individual school. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. Creative faculties can start with the Every Student concept and work it out in their own way. However, there are two approaches a school can use to examine the Every Student concept. It can be accomplished through internal efforts or external assistance. In many cases, a combination of the two may be the best way to go. Let’s look at each approach.

    National Standards

During the past decade there has been a movement to develop local and national education standards. Many education associations have taken leadership in identifying the content of a given discipline so that students will have the opportunity to participate in a common set of curriculum objectives. This was emphasized in order to ensure that all schools provided a comprehensive course of study. Further it enabled students to move to different schools and find the same curriculum expectations.

    Amazon is buying Whole Foods for $13, buying a business.#Buying #a #business

Amazon is buying Whole Foods for $13.7 billion

    Buying a business

Amazon is making a big bet on physical stores and the business of food.

The online retail giant announced Friday that is buying organic grocery chain Whole Foods ( WFM ) for $13.7 billion in cash. The deal values Whole Foods at $42 a share, 27% higher than where the stock was trading Thursday.

Amazon ( AMZN , Tech30) said Whole Foods stores will continue operating under that name as a separate unit of the company. Whole Foods CEO John Mackey will stay on to lead Whole Foods, which will keep its headquarters in Austin, Texas.

The deal shows Amazon’s interest in moving into the business of operating traditional brick-and-mortar stores, even as many retailers that have been crippled by Amazon’s growth have announced a series of store closings.

It also shows Amazon’s growing interest in groceries. The company has its own delivery service, AmazonFresh, and is experimenting with a “click and collect” model, letting customers buy groceries online, then pick them up in person.

The supermarket business, like many other parts of retail, has been hit hard by increased competition from Amazon itself, as well as Walmart ( WMT ) .

Grocery giant Kroger ( KR ) said Thursday that its profits for the year would be lower than Wall Street expected, sending its stock plunging nearly 20%.

Then Kroger’s stock plummeted 13% further on Friday after the Amazon-Whole Foods detail was announced.

Shares of other retailers with a big presence in groceries, such as Target ( TGT ) , Costco ( COST ) , SuperValu ( SVU ) and Sprouts ( SFM ) , plunged as well.

And Walmart was down 5%, despite announcing another online commerce deal of its own Friday. It bought men’s apparel company Bonobos.

But Amazon’s stock rose 3% on the news. Investors don’t seem too concerned by how much the company is spending. A warning of a possible credit downgrade by ratings agency S P Global Ratings didn’t hurt Amazon either.

S P said that Amazon may need to take on more debt as a result of the acquisition. But Amazon finished the first quarter with $21.5 billion in cash and securities on its balance sheet — and only $7.7 billion in long-term debt.

Amazon’s deal for Whole Foods also further demonstrates the financial might of the Jeff Bezos-led company, whose market value is greater than that of the 12 largest traditional general retailers combined.

“Millions of people love Whole Foods Market because they offer the best natural and organic foods, and they make it fun to eat healthy,” said Bezos.

Whole Foods, founded in 1978, is widely credited with helping to make organic food go mainstream. The company now has about 87,000 employees and more than 460 stores — mostly in the U.S. But Whole Foods has also expanded to Canada and the U.K.

The company has been moving aggressively in big cities, targeting millennial shoppers with a store format called 365 by Whole Foods Market that, like rival Trader Joe’s, has lower prices than the ones found at core Whole Foods stores.

High prices, of course, have been a problem for Whole Foods. The company is often derisively referred to as Whole Paycheck since the company charges a pretty penny for spelt and quinoa.

The company was accused of overcharging customers by regulators in New York City in 2015 and that had a huge negative impact on Whole Foods. Sales plunged for several quarters.

And the company became the butt of jokes by late-night comedians. HBO’s John Oliver did a savage skit about the company’s high prices. (HBO, like CNNMoney, is owned by Time Warner.)

Oliver ran a mock commercial showing, among other things, a block of ice with an avocado balanced on top for $25.99, a pomegranate that listened to NPR for $64.99, and tilapia wearing yoga pants for $84.99.

Mackey eventually wound up apologizing to customers. But the damage was done.

Sales growth at Whole Foods has slowed and profits have yet to return to levels before the price scandal. That may be one reason why Whole Foods was willing to sell to Amazon.

It will be interesting to see if Amazon — which has a reputation for keeping prices low — will turn Whole Foods into more of a bargain retailer as well.

It’s also worth noting that Whole Foods stock did not move much higher than $42 on Friday — the price that Amazon agreed to pay. That could be a sign that Wall Street does not expect a bidding war for the company that would push the sale price higher.

So it looks like Bezos will inherit the bad PR baggage that comes with Whole Foods. I wonder if it’s too soon for people to ask Alexa where they can find stalks of asparagus in a bottle of water for $6.

How to Start a Rice Dealership Business

Home based business ideasRice is an important primary staple food in many Asian countries especially in the Philippines. This will assess the economic viability of your proposed business.

Here are some important questions to consider before plunging into this kind of business.

Business Etiquette for Responding to Mail & Email

    Business etiquette

When writing business email, follow rules that maintain professionalism.

Maintaining high standards in business communication is a sign of professionalism. Poorly structured and untimely responses — whether via email or postal mail — make customers feel underappreciated and undervalued and can potentially result in lost business. Consequently, observing proper etiquette for responding to mail and email is key component of communications strategy for any small business.

Email — Respond Within 24 Hours

Responding to an email within 24 hours is good etiquette. Responding sooner is better because customers will be assured their concerns are being heard and their needs attended to. If a customer’s concern is negative or powerfully expressed, a phone call may be a more appropriate response than a return email. A call implies you consider the matter too important for an electronic response. Just hearing a human voice can help clients feel respected.

Postal Mail — Respond Within Five Days

Five business days is the standard business letter response time. Postal mail can take two to three days or longer to reach even a local client. A further delayed mail response can indicate to a customer that your company is disinterested in his business, or worse, unprofessional and sloppily run. Again, if a client letter expresses hostility or threatens to discontinue the business relationship, a phone call or personal visit is the best response.

    Email — Subject Line

Use an appropriate heading in the email subject line. A heading that is specific to the customer’s concerns lets him know you have crafted an individual response rather than sending along a form letter. For example, the heading response time issues works better than your recent concerns.

    Email or Letter Content

Open the letter or email with an expression of thanks, such as Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding . . This lets a client know you read his note and sets the stage for a reasoned response. It also conveys gratitude that the customer took the time to write to your company. Next, get straight to the point, addressing the customer’s concern directly and succinctly. Provide any explanation as to why the customer encountered a problem, but keep it brief. Close the letter by thanking the customer for his business and providing a phone number or email address to which he can forward further concerns.

    Style and Grammar

The tone of the letter should correspond to the nature of the issue at hand. If a customer wrote to express his great satisfaction, a friendly, enthusiastic response is in order. If, instead, the client communication had a negative tone, the response should be businesslike but polite and should invite further communication to ensure concerns are fully addressed. Proper grammar and spelling are de rigueur, whether you respond by mail or email. A letter or message rife with misspellings makes you look incompetent and may encourage a customer or client to take his business elsewhere.

    Atm machine business

“They’re clever scoundrels,” fumes John Shepherd-Barron at his remote farmhouse in northern Scotland. He is referring to the seals which are raiding his salmon farm and stealing fish.

    Atm machine business

    Atm machine business

“I invented a device to scare them off by playing the sound of killer whales, but it’s ended up only attracting them more.”

But failure with this device is in contrast to the success of his first and greatest invention: the cash machine.

The world’s first ATM was installed in a branch of Barclays in Enfield, north London, 40 years ago this week.

Reg Varney, from the television series On the Buses, was the first to withdraw cash.

Inspiration had struck Mr Shepherd-Barron, now 82, while he was in the bath.

“It struck me there must be a way I could get my own money, anywhere in the world or the UK. I hit upon the idea of a chocolate bar dispenser, but replacing chocolate with cash.”

Barclays was convinced immediately. Over a pink gin, the then chief executive signed a hurried contract with Mr Shepherd-Barron, who at the time worked for the printing firm De La Rue.

Plastic cards had not been invented, so Mr Shepherd-Barron’s machine used cheques that were impregnated with carbon 14, a mildly radioactive substance.

The machine detected it, then matched the cheque against a Pin number.

    Atm machine business

However, Mr Shepherd-Barron denies there were any health concerns: “I later worked out you would have to eat 136,000 such cheques for it to have any effect on you.”

The machine paid out a maximum of Ј10 a time.

“But that was regarded then as quite enough for a wild weekend,” he says.

To start with, not everything went smoothly. The first machines were vandalised, and one that was installed in Zurich in Switzerland began to malfunction mysteriously.

It was later discovered that the wires from two intersecting tramlines nearby were sparking and interfering with the mechanism.

One by-product of inventing the first cash machine was the concept of the Pin number.

Mr Shepherd-Barron came up with the idea when he realised that he could remember his six-figure army number. But he decided to check that with his wife, Caroline.

“Over the kitchen table, she said she could only remember four figures, so because of her, four figures became the world standard,” he laughs.

Customers using the cash machine at Barclays in Enfield High Street are mostly unaware of its historical significance.

A small plaque was placed there on the 25th anniversary, but few people notice it. Given that there are now more than 1.6 million cash machines worldwide, it is a classic case of British understatement.

    Atm machine business

Mr Shepherd-Barron says he and his wife realised the importance of his invention only when they visited Chiang Mai in northern Thailand.

They watched a farmer arriving on a bullock cart, who removed his wide-brimmed hat to use the cash machine.

“It was the first evidence to me that we’d changed the world,” he says.

But even though he invented the machine, Mr Shepherd-Barron believes its use in future will be very different. He predicts that our society will no longer be using cash within a few years.

“Money costs money to transport. I am therefore predicting the demise of cash within three to five years.”

He believes fervently that we will soon be swiping our mobile phones at till points, even for small transactions.

At 82, Mr Shepherd-Barron is very much alive to new ideas and inventions – even though his device that plays killer whale noises still needs a little bit of tinkering.

    Government grants for small businesses

With the government pledging to help SMEs through the stages of start-up and growth, there is a range of funding for small businesses to take advantage of. Follow our guide to government grants.

    Regional Growth Fund (RGF)

Businesses looking for funding of less than £1 million, can apply for support through Regional Growth Fund programmes. These are schemes run by national or local organisations that have been awarded RGF cash to offer grants and/or loans to eligible businesses.

Since 2011, £1.7 billion has been allocated to RGF programmes, supporting more than 9,400 small and medium-sized businesses. To be eligible, your business must be based in England, have a growth plan, create or protect jobs, and be investing private capital. See a list of live RGF programmes and funding opportunities.

    Start-Up Loans

This government-funded initiative provides loans, mentoring and support for start-ups or very small, early-stage businesses with potentially viable propositions but who are unable to attract investment from high-street banks.

To be eligible, businesses must be yet to launch or have been trading for less than 12 months. The scheme provides free business planning to ensure applicants are in the best possible position to receive funding. Every loan application is considered according to the needs of your business, with an average loan size of around £6,000. The final loan size will be determined by your business plan. Find out more about Start-Up Loans.

    Guide to alternative funding

Discover 10 sources of funding for your business and how to apply in our essential guide for startups and small businesses.

    Government grants

Small businesses grants are available from the UK government, the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh Assembly and the Northern Ireland Assembly. Each grant provider has its own application process and criteria for applying.

For a full list of providers use the government s business finance support finder. This tool allows you to search for funding opportunities based on the location, size and type of business you run.

    UK Export Finance (UKEF)

UK Export Finance helps UK exporters by underwriting bank loans offered to overseas buyers of UK products and services. This means it takes on the risk of the loan from the bank, so that the bank is more likely to offer it.

It can also help UK exporters to raise tender and contract bonds and access working capital finance. To be eligible for export insurance, your business must be based in the UK and the buyer must be overseas. Find out more about UK Export Finance (UKEF).

    Business Finance Partnerships

With government investment of £1.2 billion, the Business Finance Partnership is designed to diversify the sources of funding available to small and medium-sized businesses via non-bank lenders.

Loan terms will vary, but businesses can directly apply for finance with a number of non-traditional fund managers and lenders. Find out more about Business Finance Partnerships.
