Car Wash

Car wash business

THE DIRT BUSTER

11535 Cornish Blvd.

Detroit, MI 46778

The Dirt Buster was designed by entrepreneurs wishing to provide a high quality car wash service in a virtually untapped market. Because new construction is necessary, a large amount of initial capital is required for this venture .

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Description of Business

Nature of Service

The Dirt Buster is to be a full-service car wash facility comprised of the following features: a one hundred-twenty foot, fully automatic tunnel; four high pressure wand self-service bays; and six vacuum stations complete with fragrance and carpet shampoo dispensing machines. In an effort to optimize our position as premium car care specialists, we will offer our customers the opportunity to purchase quality car care products in our reception area. The full service operation will offer three basic wash packages: a $7.50 Basic wash, a $9.50 Deluxe wash and a $12.50 Super wash.

All full-service wash packages will include an interior cleaning service, which consists of carpet vacuuming, window and dash cleaning, and a preservation treatment. Our coin-operated, self-service bays will cost $1.50 per 4.5 minute cycle. Additionally, all customers will have access to vacuum islands which will cost $.50 per 4.5 minute cycle. Fragrance and shampoo dispensing machines will also be offered, and will range in price from $1.00 to $2.50 per cycle.

Unique Features of Service

The property on which The Dirt Buster is to be located was the site of a car wash approximately ten years ago. For reasons external to the business itself, the owners decided to terminate operations. The existing tunnel structure is ideally suited to house our tunnel operation. The original tunnel s one hundred-twenty foot length, versus today s standard ninety foot tunnel length, provides a significant service advantage over other car washes in the area. Very simply, the longer the tunnel, the more wash and drip space is available and the better an automobile is cleaned and dried during each cycle. Unfortunately, most car wash operators know it is possible to provide reasonably good service utilizing just ninety feet of tunnel space. This reduces the initial construction costs by approximately 25 percent (based on a tunnel structure of 90 25 versus 120 25 at construction costs of $100/sq.ft.). The bottom line is that most car wash operators sacrifice service to minimize costs. The Dirt Buster s unique position of not having to sacrifice service to lower costs will allow us to provide superior service at a competitive price.

Our market area is characterized by wide ethnic and economic diversity. To capitalize on these demographic factors and concentrate on the unique demands each group asks of the market, our facility will incorporate both a full-service tunnel operation (for those who wish to allow our service team to clean their car) and a self-service facility (for those who wish to take a more active role in their car s maintenance). This type of car wash operation will be one of only three such facilities in the area. Additionally, we plan to provide an automatic dryer for each self-service bay, which will increase customer satisfaction by eliminating the need to hand dry an automobile after washing. Automatic dryers are a new and effective market innovation which currently exist in only one other car wash operation in our region.

Objectives

After in-depth analysis of our specific market area, national statistics on the car wash industry, and detailed evaluation of nine car wash operations in the area, we expect to generate sales revenues of $667,508 in the first year of operation. We believe our initial customer base will substantially increase as the community becomes aware of our existence, our reputation for excellent service, and our active involvement in community affairs. We then expect our growth to mirror the community s projected market growth, which is approximately 3.5 percent to 5 percent per year. Because there are no other car wash operations within a four mile radius of our site location, we feel confident our predicted growth will, ataminimum, follow industry trends. Therefore, we expect to have a 100 percent market share of our target market for at least the short term.

Strategic Direction

Stage of Business

A start-up business designed to fill a service void which was created ten years ago after the last full-service tunnel wash facility in this market area terminated its operations. Again, the last full-service tunnel terminated its operations for reasons external to the business itself.

Long Range Direction

We are dedicated to establishing and maintaining the finest car wash operation in the area, specifically known for the quality of service provided and the management s commitment to the betterment of the community.

MARKET/MARKETING

Market Segment Sought

We are extremely fortunate our service is not limited to a specific segment or group of the market. In fact, The Dirt Buster s sole limiting factor is the small segment of its specific market which is without an automobile. In our market area alone, there are approximately 400,000 automobiles, or .8 automobiles per person.

Benefits of Service to the Market Segment

We will provide the only full service facility within ourmarket area. Additionally, our water reclamation system will provide an environmentally safe means for our customers to clean their automobiles. This differs from residential car washing, where untreated wash water fills storm drains and ultimately empties into our waterways.

Summary of Advertising and Pricing Policies

Our Basic, full-service tunnel wash will cost $7.50. It will entail a full exterior vehicle wash, as well as an interior service to include vacuuming, window cleaning, and dashboard cleaning. Our Deluxe Wash will cost $9.50 and will include all the Basic Wash services as well as an undercarriage wash, a rust inhibitor, and a wheel brightener. The Super Wash will cost $12.50 and will include all Deluxe Wash services as well as a polishing wax and a wax sealant.

We have investigated all available advertising mediums. After in-depth consultations with amyriad of car wash operators in the area, we have decided to utilize the advantages of a variety of mediums. Initially, we will utilize cable television and radio spots, in conjunction with newspaper advertisements, to announce our Grand Opening. We will also use direct mail coupons to increase consumer awareness of our existence. Additionally, we will work cross promotions with businesses in the area as a means to tap the client base they have established. Already, several existing businesses have expressed a desire to do so.

Sales Projections

We expect to wash 63,700 cars in the full-service operation and 29,440 cars in the self-service operation during The Dirt Buster s first year of business.

Management

Backgrounds

The principal owners will be the full-time managers. Both individuals have served in the United States Army as commissioned officers since graduation from college 12 and 10 years ago, respectively. They have vast experience in the management of finances, personnel, and equipment. While in the Army, both individuals successfully completed two years of company command, which closely parallels the running of a small business; it requires the managing of all associated personnel, budgetary, and operational situations. In addition, one manager is currently working as the assistant manager for a local car wash. This experience has provided invaluable insight into the operational aspects of managing and maintaining a car wash.

Responsibilities

One manager will focus on daily operations, including employee hiring, building maintenance, property maintenance, and equipment maintenance. The other manager will focus on marketing, advertising, and community relations, as well as all fiscal matters, including employee pay and benefits, taxes, payables, and receivables. Other members of the management team will provide support to the owners with regard to their specific areas of expertise.

    POPULAR QUESTIONS

How is Rising Tide Car Wash different from other professional car washes?

We aim to Redefine Shine! Our state-of-the-art car wash system delivers the perfect combination of premium soaps and waxes, light touch, soft cloth, and high pressure in order to provide a gentle, yet thorough cleaning of all vehicles. With dual sided wheel protection and a low profile guide rail, our conveyor system is designed to pamper even the most expensive exotic cars. Further, all of our employees have passed a rigorous 25-hour training program developed in partnership with SONNY s CarWash College and we offer a newly remodeled waiting area with flat screen TVs, comfortable seating and water cannons to our customers who choose full-service car washes.

What does Rising Tide’s logo represent?

Our logo symbolizes our social mission of empowering individuals with autism through employment at a top-notch professional car wash. The icon in the center of our logo is a puzzle piece (the universal symbol of autism) being lifted up by a wave; this represents our aspirations of inspiring the South Florida community to see autism as more of a diversity which can be valuable for employers than a disability that we must have sympathy for.

Is it safer to wash your car by hand at home?

Rags and sponges used in driveway washing inevitably become impregnated with tiny particles of grit and can scratch your vehicle s surface. Furthermore, garden hoses typically have inadequate water pressure to remove all the soap film, letting it bake into the finish and work its way into the paint for days afterward. In fact, professional studies have shown that the good old driveway car wash is one of the worst things that can happen to a car s factory paint job.

    5. COMPETITION ANALYSIS

The business will face both direct and indirect competition, these are as analyzed below:

    5.1 DIRECT COMPETITION

The business will face direct competition from nearby car wash businesses as well as other well established competitors in Rustenburg.

The competitive advantages of AutoCare Car Wash Services will position it in such a way that it derives a lucrative market share. The strategic location of AutoCare Car Wash Services is a plus to the business. The business will be situated next to a filling station that is in close proximity to a busy mall. In addition, there is no competition within a 20 Kilometer radius. The business can expect a steady flow of motor vehicles that need to be washed.

    5.1.1 ABX CAR WASH SERVICES

    5.1.1.1 ADVANTAGES

    • Has been is existence for over 3 years
    • The business provides hand wash services. Some customers prefer their motor vehicles to be hand washed as they believe that automated car washes ‘fade’ their vehicles faster
    • Accepts both cash and visa debit cards – providing extra convenience in terms of payment for clients

    5.1.1.2 DISADVANTAGES

    • Hand washing is usually time consuming and this affects customers that are in a hurry
    • The business is not strategically located; there are no attractions such as shopping malls, gyms or other facilities that add value to the clients while they have their vehicles washed

    5.1.2 AAAX CAR WASH SERVICES

    5.1.2.1 ADVANTAGES

    • Makes use of automated machines. Automated machines are efficient and effective. They give a professional picture to most customers. Most customers are keen about automated services as they are faster, simple and arguably better than hand washing car services
    • Accepts both cash and visa debit cards – providing extra convenience in terms of payment for clients
    • Great branding
    • Has an online presence providing customers with prices, promotions and other information about the car wash business

    5.1.2.2 DISADVANTAGES

    • Targets the high end market, therefore its prices are relatively high. This can be seen as a disadvantage for low to middle income customers
    • Some customers simply prefer ‘hand wash’ services

    5.1.3 ABZ CAR WASH SERVICES

    • Affordable pricing
    • Provides discounted prices to students once in a while
    • Has ample parking
    • Has a nearby cafeteria providing extra convenience for clients

    5.1.3.2 DISADVANTAGES

    • Poor branding
    • Poor customer service
    • Untrained staff
    • Lack of focus, targets everyone

    5.2 INDIRECT COMPETITION

Indirect competition will emanate from alternative sources that customers can get their cars cleaned. Some clients prefer to clean their vehicles at home – this will form part of the indirect competition that AutoCare Car Wash Services will face. Indirect competition will also emanate from charitable fundraisers, large well established car service businesses, ‘Do it yourself’ car wash services and other similar entities. Mushrooming informal car wash businesses will also pose indirect competition for the business.

    Car Wash Self-service Business Plan Sample – Company Summary #business #names #available

    #car wash business

    #

    Car Wash Self-service Business Plan

    Company Summary

Auto Paradise is a dynamic start-up company that will provide exceptional car care services to the members of the San Angelo community. Quality services that exceed expectations will establish Auto Paradise as the premiere car wash service in San Angelo, Texas. It will provide that following products and services to the local community:

    1. Two Laser Automatic “touch-free and spot-free” car wash bays
    2. Four “self-serve” bays
    3. Vacuum and car wash vending services
    4. Reverse osmosis drinking water.

Auto Paradise will establish its first location one lot from the intersection of Avenue N and Byrant Avenue, which are two of the busiest streets in San Angelo. The lot faces Avenue N and will be accessible from two sides. The ATM and RO dispensers will be accessible from a side road and will not interfere with the car wash traffic.

The facility will have two automatic car wash bays, four self-serve bays and an equipment room/office in the middle of the bays. It will also have four high powered vacuum islands (eight total vacuums), vending area, and an ATM/RO water area.

    2.1 Company Ownership

Mr. Lewallen will create Auto Paradise as a Texas C corporation based in Tom Green County. Mr. and Mrs. Lewallen will be the majority owners (80%) with principal investors owning the remaining 20%. As of this writing, it has not yet been chartered and Mr. Lewallen is still considering alternatives.

    2.2 Start-up Summary

Total projected start-up expenses (including construction, equipment, land, landscaping and related start-up expenses) come to $934,100. The start-up costs are to be financed by direct owner investment and long term financing.

    A. Investment Options. Auto Paradise will open approximately 90 days after securing financing. Mr. Lewallen is offering several ways to invest in Auto Paradise:

    1. Company stock: Mr. Lewallen is offering 20% of company stock to investors. Auto Paradise is offering 1% of company stock for $7,500. Capital will help establish the first Auto Paradise location and provide “head start” on the second location. Auto Paradise plans to distribute $2,500 per 1% share each of the first three years.
    2. Secured Investment: Mr. Lewallen is offering a guaranteed 10% return for a three year investment. Mr. Lewallen is willing to secure these investments with personal assets/investments.

    B. Financing. The SBA loan that Mr. Lewallen will secure from the SBA is structured to ensure Auto Paradise’s success during the early months of operation. The $740,400 loan includes two elements designed to help build operating capital. First, the loan includes a 10% ($69,000) construction contingency that will convert to operating capital if the construction costs are consistent with the estimate. It also includes 9 months of interim interest which will defer the long-term mortgage payment for 9 months (6 months of operation).

    C. Land. Auto Paradise is in the process of securing a lot near (one lot from corner) the intersection of Bryant Ave. and Avenue N, which are two of the busiest streets in San Angelo. The lot will be 165′ along Avenue N and 175′ deep. The purchase is pending the results of a phase I environmental inspection, which is expected to produce favorable results.

    D. Construction. Getting a firm construction bid is the next step in the process after securing the initial investors. The architect plans and an actual bid will be the last elements necessary to secure bank financing. The estimates included are from previous projects and are considered generous (on the high-side). The estimated $390,000 includes total construction costs for two automatic and four self-serve bays, parking lot, signage, landscaping and architect fees.

    E. Construction Contingency. The 10% construction contingency will cover any unexpected expenses or shortfalls. This may be re-negotiated as a “line of credit” in order to reduce the amount of the loan.

    F. Equipment. Washing Equipment of Texas (WET) has provided a detailed estimate for the purchase and installation of the equipment for two automatic bays, four self-serve bays, four vacuum islands (eight vacuums) and a reverse osmosis water dispenser. WET, which is located in San Angelo, will also provide all maintenance and repair services.

The assumptions are shown in the following tables and chart.

Soapy Rides will be providing customers with three services: exterior car washing. interior cleaning, and detailing. Soapy Rides has no true competitors that are trying to offer a high quality service for a reasonable rate. Most are trying to compete on price alone. Soapy Rides’ ability to provide a high quality service, both in regards to the actual washing as well as customer service is all based on their ability to find the best employees. Hiring the best employees is cost effective because it decreases HR costs associated with turnover and other employee costs. Hiring the best employees and making sure that they are well taken care of ensures that they in turn take care of the customers. Study after study proves that a happy employee is far more likely to provide the highest level of customer service compared to an employee who is not happy and feels that they are being taken advantage of.

Soapy Rides will target three main groups of customers: individual car owner and leasers, car dealerships, and local businesses. The surrounding area is quite affluent, 40% of the residents earn over $70,000 a year. Consequently, they have nice cars and want them to look nice. There are five different car dealerships within a three-mile radius which will require car washing services for the various fleets. Lastly, there are many different local businesses that have company cars and that require clean appearances.

The strength of Mark’s experience and his family’s name equity and assistance is Soapy Rides’ competitive edge as well as a significant asset. Mark has been involved in the family’s car repair business for the last ten years. He has worked his way through the organization and has been the manager for the last five years overseeing operations of $1.2 million annually. Before the family venture, Mark received his MBA from Cornell University. With 30 years invested in the community, the Deshpande family name has generated significant value as a fair, active member of the community. Lastly, Soapy Rides will be able to leverage several of the Deshpande’s for their business expertise.

Soapy Rides is positioning itself as the premier hand car wash serving the Long Island area. Mark has forecasted a 20% market share. The business will generate a very high gross margin and a modest net margin after year one and comfortable margin after year three. By year three the business will have developed a respectable yearly net profit.

    Earnest Student Loan Refinancing Review

    Who refinances car loans

With its broad qualification criteria and customizable repayment options, Earnest’s student loan refinancing is particularly appealing for people with short credit histories and entry-level incomes.

Like many student loan refinance lenders, Earnest offers student loan refinancing for borrowers with loans from undergraduate or graduate degrees, and for parents who took out federal PLUS loans to pay for their child’s education.

    Who refinances car loans

    AT A GLANCE

    • Fixed rates: 3.35% to 6.39% APR. Variable rates: 2.81% to 6.19% APR.
    • Available loan terms: Personalized terms between 5 and 20 years (180 options total)
    • Eligible loan balances: $5,000 to $500,000

Note: Once you refinance a federal student loan, you lose access to federal loan perks including income-driven repayment and loan forgiveness programs. Weigh this trade-off carefully.

    Do you qualify?

In addition to the qualifications above, borrowers must be employed, have a written offer for a job that starts within six months or have another source of income to comfortably afford the loan payments.

Most Earnest clients have a history of making on-time payments, don’t regularly incur late, overdraft or insufficient funds fees, and don’t have recent bankruptcies or accounts in collections.

    Where Earnest shines

Borrowers can customize their interest rate and loan term: Earnest’s unique Precision Pricing model gives borrowers more flexibility than is available with other lenders. Borrowers can select the exact amount they want to pay each month and Earnest adjusts their loan term and interest rate accordingly.

Various flexible repayment options: Earnest gives borrowers the option to:

    • Make biweekly payments to lower the total interest paid over time
    • Extend a payment due date up to seven days
    • Skip a payment once every 12 months after they’ve made consecutive on-time payments for six months
    • Switch between fixed and variable interest rates once every six months after making at least six months of consecutive on-time payments

Services loans in-house: Earnest is one of the only lenders that collects and manages payments itself; most other lenders hire third-party servicers to do this work. So, if you have any questions about your loan, you can contact the company directly via phone, email, text or an online chat feature, instead of tracking down an outside loan servicing company.

    Where Earnest falls short

Borrowers can’t apply with a co-signer: Earnest is one of the only lenders that doesn’t allow borrowers to apply with a co-signer. Most other student loan refinance lenders encourage borrowers to apply with co-signers to potentially qualify for a lower rate.

Only available in 44 states and Washington, D.C.: Earnest isn’t available to borrowers in six states: Alabama, Delaware, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nevada and Rhode Island. Residents should consider one of the many other student loan refinancing lenders that serve borrowers in those states.

    Loan details

Fees: No origination or prepayment fees.

Deferment and forbearance: Borrowers may be able to defer payments while pursuing a graduate degree, or serving in the military or Peace Corps. Forbearance is available to borrowers who involuntarily lose their job or have an increase in nondiscretionary spending, such as medical costs or child care.

    Next steps

It’s smart to compare several refinance lenders before choosing one. If you’re sold on Earnest, you can apply directly on the lender’s site. The lender will do a soft credit pull, which won’t hurt your credit score, to give you a rate estimate. Then, like all lenders, Earnest will do a hard credit pull when you submit your full application.

You’ll need to do the following when you apply:

What is the Clean Car Law?

The Clean Car Law is a law passed by the 2005 Washington State Legislature. It states that, starting with 2009 models, new vehicles must meet strict clean air standards to be registered, leased, rented, licensed, or sold for use in Washington. This includes cars, light duty trucks, and passenger vehicles (SUVs and passenger vans).

New vehicles that do not meet clean car standards cannot be registered, licensed, rented, or sold for use in Washington.

What does this law mean to me?

The law means that some new car models will not be legal for use in our state.

It also means that, if you buy a car out of state that does not meet Washington’s clean air standards, you will not be able to register, license, rent, or sell it for use in Washington.

What do I have to do differently?

In Washington: If you buy a car in Washington, you don’t have to do anything, other than to be informed about these changes. Auto makers must deliver vehicles to Washington that meet clean car standards. Auto dealers may only sell, rent, or lease vehicles for use in Washington that meet these standards.

Outside Washington: If you buy a car out of state and want to bring it into Washington, you must make sure it meets Washington’s standards.

What if I buy a vehicle out of state?

It is YOUR responsibility to make sure your new car meets Washington’s standards, no matter where you buy it!

At least 12 other states, including Oregon and California, have the same clean car laws as Washington. If you buy a new 2009 model car in those states, it should meet Washington’s standards.

However, if you buy a car in another state that uses the federal emission standards, you will not be able to register, license, rent, or sell it for use in Washington.

Why does Washington have this law?

The Washington State Legislature passed this law to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gases from cars and trucks.

Why are clean car standards important?

Motor vehicles cause most of the air pollution in Washington. Air pollution causes health problems and contributes to climate change.

Health problems: Air pollution causes cancer, asthma and other illnesses. More than half of Washington’s residents have at least one medical condition that is made worse by air pollution.

Besides causing health effects, air pollution hurts our economy. Deaths and illnesses from air pollution cost Washington at least $500 million each year.

Climate change: Motor vehicles and other types of transportation also cause more than half of the greenhouse gas emissions in our state. Greenhouse gases cause climate change. Effects of climate change in Washington include reduced snow pack, low summer stream flows, more winter flooding, increased coastal erosion, less water for people and agriculture, and further loss of salmon habitat.

When do new cars have to start meeting the clean car standards?

Any 2009 or newer vehicle must meet clean car standards.

Is Washington the only state doing this?

No. California, Oregon, and a growing number of other states also have clean car standards.

    Which cars are the cleanest?

The amount of pollution a car puts into the air depends mainly on which emission standards it meets. It can also be affected by how you drive and maintain the car, how much fuel the car uses, and the kind of fuel used.

Passenger cars must meet certain fuel mileage standards. Generally, the better the fuel mileage, the “cleaner” the car. For example, smaller cars typically get the best fuel mileage, which also means they pollute less.

Light trucks which include vans, small pickup trucks, and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) are allowed to get lower fuel mileage than passenger cars. As a result, the average light truck pollutes more than the average car.

Some of the heaviest light trucks, such as large SUVs, do not have to meet any mileage standards. They are among the most polluting vehicles.

    What are emission standards?

Emission standards limit the amount of pollution coming from a vehicle. All new vehicles for sale in the United States meet either federal emission standards (set by EPA) or California standards (set by the California Air Resources Board). The California standards are stricter than the federal standards.

    What are Washington’s emission standards?

Washington recently adopted the California standards, which are stricter than the federal standards. 2009 and newer models of new vehicles must meet these strict clean air standards to be registered, leased, rented, licensed, or sold for use in Washington.

Why does Washington use California’s vehicle emission standards?

Adopting California’s vehicle emission standards complies with the federal Clean Air Act by not creating a third standard for vehicle emissions. Adopting California’s rules allows us to protect the environment, while minimizing the burden to the automotive industry. Having standards identical to those in neighboring states such as California and Oregon makes it simpler for consumers to purchase vehicles across state lines. The common standard also saves taxpayers money by not creating a new system when a program that accomplishes our goals is already available.

How can I find a clean car to buy?

You’re in luck Washington has made it very easy for you to find the cleanest cars available. Starting with 2009 models, only cars that meet the strict clean car standards can be leased, rented, licensed, or sold for use in Washington.

See a list of the clean cars you can buy.

    Clean driving tips

    • Keep your car well maintained. A poorly-maintained engine both creates more air pollution and uses more fuel. Replace oil and air filters regularly. Keep your tires properly inflated.
    • Drive less. Carpool, walk, bike, ride the bus, or work from home to save money as well as reduce air pollution.
    • Don’t idle your vehicle. If you stop for more than 30 seconds, except in traffic, turn off your engine. Idling for a total of 10 minutes a day uses an average of about 22 gallons of gas per year, as well as pollutes the air. By turning your engine off when it isn’t moving, you’ll save money on gas and you and others around you, including children and people with respiratory problems, won’t have to breathe unhealthy exhaust fumes.
    • Don’t buy more car than you need. Four-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, engine size, vehicle weight, and tire size all affect the amount of fuel your vehicle uses. The more fuel it uses, the more air pollution it causes.

What is the Environmental Performance Label?

The Environmental Performance (EP) label is a label that is displayed on new vehicles for sale. The label provides greenhouse gas and smog emissions scores. The scoring system allows consumers to compare the vehicle’s greenhouse gas and smog emissions to other models. People can then make more informed decisions that include climate change impacts when buying a vehicle.

    Colorado Auto Insurance Premiums

    Colorado Market Outlook

2007 represents the best Colorado auto insurance market for consumers in more than a decade:

Premiums have plummeted more than 32% from May 2003 to May 2007 for the majority of drivers with full policy coverage, which includes both mandatory and optional benefits: liability, personal injury protection (2003 only), medical payments coverage, collision and comprehensive. That adds up to an average annual premium drop from $1,289 in 2003 compared to $872 in 2007 or an average savings of $417 per car.

For consumers who purchased mandatory liability, plus optional uninsured motorists and medical payments coverage the average annual premium (excludes comprehensive and collision) decreased by 40.7% or an average annual premium of $899 in 2003 compared to $533 in 2007 (RMIIA/PCI 2007 industry rate survey) .

Colorado Auto Premiums Continue to Drop Since No-Fault Sunset

Those double digit decreases represent historic reductions during a time that nationally car insurance rates were still rising, until a 0.5% decrease in 2006. While claim frequency is down countrywide and in Colorado, the cost for car repair and medical treatments is going up. However, Colorado consumers are benefiting from a stabilization of the market since the legislature repealed its no-fault auto insurance system in 2003. Under no-fault, many auto insurance consumers were also paying twice for health insurance and extra medical coverage under their car insurance, not to mention military and others who received government-funded medical coverage who were paying for expensive mandated auto insurance that they didn’t need.

    Colorado Premium Examples

To provide a snapshot of Colorado auto premium trends as the state moved from a no-fault to a tort auto insurance system on July 1, 2003, the Property Casualty Insurers of America (PCI ) and RMIIA surveyed company premiums before and after the change, using two specific consumer examples for six geographical areas: Denver, Pueblo, Sterling, Fort Collins, Grand Junction and Colorado Springs.

Below are six-month auto insurance policy rates for the following risk:

Household with two drivers (35-year-old married couple) with prior insurance, good credit history and no traffic violations.

2001 four-door Ford Taurus, used primarily for commuting; 13,500 annual miles.

    Liability limits $100,000/$300,000 Bodily Injury (BI ), and $50,000 Property Damage (PD ); Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM ) limits $100,000/$300,000.

June 2003: Personal Injury Protection (PIP ); on or after July 1, 2003: Rates were calculated both for including and excluding $5,000 Medical Payments (MP ) coverage.

The 2nd and 4th examples within each ZIP code also include $500 deductible collision coverage and $250 deductible comprehensive coverage.

    Multi-line and multi-car discounts apply.

6-month policy in Denver ZIP 80203

The 16 companies that provided data represent approximately 50% of the Colorado market. The average rates above are weighted using the statewide premium volume of each participating company.

The consumer rate example survey, above, conducted by Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) and the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association (RMIIA) provides a meaningful snapshot because it shows Colorado rate trends for six areas of the state, both urban and rural, and is based on real-life situations. The comparison rates the same 35-year-old married couple with the same risk factors based on average consumer purchasing decisions. The premium survey shows that from June 2003 (under no-fault) to May 2006 (nearly three years with a tort system) a liability-only, six-month auto policy decreased on average from 28-41%. The largest overall decrease for this type of policy from June 2003 to May 2006 was in Pueblo with a 41.7% premium reduction. Denver’s average decrease for the same policy was 40.4%.

The comparison also breaks down coverage costs for the couple if they opted to purchase $5,000 in medical payments coverage. Under a tort policy with liability and medical payments coverage (the average amount purchased in Colorado and nationally) the overall savings was 16% to 30%. The survey also included premium comparisons with optional comprehensive and collision coverage.

    Immediate Savings After No-Fault

The immediate savings for insurance consumers is that they are no longer required to pay for costly Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage. PIP was a mandated no-fault medical coverage that included payment for high-priced, non-traditional treatments leading to very expensive auto insurance for everyone. According to a 2003 study by the Insurance Research Council (IRC) on no-fault states, average Colorado PIP claims soared by 122% from 1997 to 2002, more than double the PIP claim increases in New York, which still rose by 60% in the same five-year period and triple the PIP claims increases in Florida (37%). Colorado consumers felt those increases directly in their pocketbooks in 2002 and 2003, when Colorado PIP premiums rose by as much as 80%.

    Long-Term Premium & Purchasing Trends

How much auto insurance costs the average consumer is an easy question with a complex answer. Since Colorado moved away from no-fault auto insurance, the average cost of a Colorado auto insurance policy is significantly reduced and premiums have begun to stabilize to reflect national market trends.

The biggest long-term factors that impact Colorado insurance premiums as the state moves to tort include: 1) how much insurance consumers purchase, 2) individual risk factors, and 3) insurance companies’ ability to control and operate without the claims abuses that riddled the state’s no-fault system. Of course, the price of what auto insurance pays for will always be the underlying driver of premiums, such as hail storms and the number of motor vehicle accidents. Both nationwide and here in Colorado, people are actually filing fewer claims and the severity of injuries is down, but the cost to pay those claims is higher due to rising cost of medical care, vehicle repair and jury awards.

One Size Auto Insurance Doesn’t Fit All

Colorado consumers now have more control over what they pay for auto insurance. Premiums still depend on traditional risk factors, such as where Coloradans live, what kind of cars they drive and their personal driving records. Colorado drivers are still required to buy liability coverage to pay for medical bills and property damage when they cause an accident, but they now get to decide how much additional health and liability insurance they need to purchase based on their own personal insurance and financial situations.

Consumers have not experienced identical savings under the transition from no-fault to tort what people pay for auto insurance still varies by company and depends on individual risks and purchasing decisions. For example, some Colorado motorists purchase extra medical coverage under their auto policies whether they have health insurance or not. Others use the premium savings from not having to buy auto medical coverage to buy extra liability coverage to protect their personal assets. And some decide that they don’t need to increase their liability or medical coverage and spend that extra money on other personal and family expenses.

Gomez Trial Attorneys – San Diego Car Accident Lawyers

Everyone should be prepared to obtain the help of a San Diego car accident attorney at some point. Statistics indicate that the average driver will be involved in three or four car accidents during his or her lifetime. Nearly 30 percent of all crashes nationwide result in at least one injury or fatality. As such, the odds state that every motorist will eventually be involved in a collision. It’s also possible that a motorist will be injured in such an incident. Most people do not plan for such a circumstance. Unfortunately, this only tends to make matters worse for those who are wrongfully injured in an accident, as many of them simply are not aware of how to proceed.

The best way to protect yourself aside from driving responsibly and maintaining proper insurance coverage is to be ready to contact a San Diego car accident lawyer immediately after a crash. Gomez Trial Attorneys is a team of San Diego car accident lawyers that has been fighting for the rights of injured clients successfully for more than a decade. Below is an overview of the issues relating to San Diego car accidents. If you have been harmed by a negligent or a reckless driver, contact the firm to schedule an initial consultation as soon as possible.

    San Diego Car Accident Statistics

According to the California Office of Traffic Safety. more than 19,000 San Diego traffic accidents occurred in 2014 that resulted in at least one injury or fatality. This total includes crashes involving all types of vehicles including pedestrians. Specifically, the following number of injury and fatal crashes occurred across the county during that calendar year:

    • Overall: 19,236
    • Alcohol-involved accidents: 2,233
    • Motorcycle accidents: 1,470
    • Pedestrian accidents: 1,223
    • Bicycle accidents: 1,059

More than 22 percent of these crashes were speed-related in nature. More than 11 percent of these accidents involved alcohol. What this all means is that every year, thousands of people are wrongfully injured in San Diego car accidents. These people all need help in some regard. The San Diego car accident lawyers at Gomez Trial Attorneys can help, and have done so over the years for countless injured clients.

Common Injuries Suffered in Car Accidents

Every part of the body is vulnerable in a car accident. While lives are saved and injuries are minimized when people wear seatbelts, San Diego car accident attorneys with experience have represented people who have been injured anywhere from their heads to their feet over the years. However, some car accident injuries tend to be more common than others. Examples of these common injuries include:

    • Head injuries/traumatic brain injuries
    • Neck injuries/whiplash
    • Spinal cord injuries
    • Back injuries
    • Broken bones
    • Internal injuries

There are other types of injuries that can result from a car accident. These injuries are emotional/psychological in nature. Every type of injury that is inflicted on a person by a negligent or reckless driver should be included in any pursuit of a financial recovery. A San Diego car accident lawyer at Gomez Trial Attorneys will fully understand how to quantify the losses from a crash.

What to Do Immediately After a Car Accident

If you have been injured in a car accident, the first thing you should do in the immediate aftermath is move yourself into a safe position if possible, preferably to the side of the road. You should not assume that someone else has called the police or for an ambulance if one is necessary. Instead, call for emergency response yourself if you are able to do so. As you wait for the police to arrive, you should avoid discussing the specifics of the accident with the other party. Doing so could harm your position later as you attempt to recover damages. If you feel it’s appropriate, simply exchange contact and insurance information with the other motorist.

When the police arrive, provide your identification, insurance information and registration to the officer. Provide a factual description of how you saw the accident unfold. It’s likely that the police officer will record the names of witnesses, but once again you should not assume that this is occurring. Take names down yourself as you may need them later. Finally, get the name of the police officer who has reported to the scene.

The first place you should go afterward is to the nearest medical facility in order to obtain a full evaluation. Even if you do not feel as though you are seriously injured, you should always take this step. That’s because there are serious injuries that can occur, such as to the brain, that may not present themselves outwardly or in the form of excruciating pain. You will also need a record of your injuries later in the recovery process.

Finally, file a claim with your insurance company. However, you should not speak to any insurance company representatives or sign any documentation from insurance companies, particularly those that represent the other driver. Instead, contact an experienced San Diego car accident attorney who understands how to work with insurance companies in this regard. Doing so will help you avoid making mistakes and focus on your physical and emotional recovery from what was a traumatic experience.

    California Comparative Fault

Many San Diego car accidents are not clear-cut in terms of who is at fault and who is not. With some crashes, both parties are partially at fault and in others things can happen so fast that it’s very difficult to know who could have caused the accident. This is not a reason to not protect your legal rights. You should let a San Diego car accident lawyer help you determine who may be at fault for the crash and if it’s you and the other driver, how much fault is yours and how much is the other driver’s.

California law explicitly accounts for this type of a situation by way of a legal doctrine known as comparative negligence, or comparative fault. California is a “pure” comparative negligence jurisdiction. What this means is that a plaintiff that files a California personal injury lawsuit against a driver can recover damages even if he or she was more than 50 percent at fault. For instance, if a San Diego car accident causes the plaintiff to suffer $100,000 in damages, he or she can still file the lawsuit even if that motorist is deemed to have been 55 percent at fault. If the plaintiff’s claim is successful, he or she will have that recovery reduced by the amount of fault assigned to that party. In this case, the successful plaintiff would recover $45,000. Therefore, you should still contact a San Diego car accident attorney at Gomez Trial Attorneys after a crash even if you’re not sure who caused it.

    Uninsured Motorists in California

According to the Insurance Information Institute. an estimated 15 percent of motorists in California may not carry auto insurance. Further, some drivers carry minimum coverage that may not compensate you fully for your injuries. Therefore, it is possible that you may be injured in a San Diego car accident by someone who does not have coverage, or has insufficient insurance coverage. If this happens to you, it does not mean that you are out of options. You may have uninsured motorist coverage as part of your own insurance policy, and if you do you may be able to pursue a claim against your insurance company. There are several other situations in which options for recovery may be possible, but every one of them should be analyzed by a San Diego car accident lawyer at Gomez Trial Attorneys so you can obtain a full understanding of how you should proceed.

San Diego Car Accident Lawyers – Why Gomez Trial Attorneys?

There are law firms out there that make it their practice to negotiate settlements on behalf of clients whenever possible after a car accident. The reason is that settlements will pay out faster. Yes, clients get their money earlier, but some may not enjoy the full recovery to which they were entitled. One of the many reasons that you should work with Gomez Trial Attorneys if you have been injured in a crash is because we are known as real trial lawyers .

The reason we are known as such is because we closely examine every case before we take it on. We work to quantify the amount of damages that should be recovered based on our legal experience. We decide on the best way to obtain the recovery of those damages. If we can recover by way of a settlement that’s in the best interest of our client, we will do so. However, if we need to proceed to trial to protect the rights of our clients, we will not hesitate to do so. Contact the San Diego car accident lawyers at Gomez Trial Attorneys to schedule a free initial consultation if you have been injured in a crash.

    Auto Battery Dos & Don’ts

The tips below can help extend the life of your vehicle’s battery while keeping you safe. These tips apply to traditional under-the-hood batteries. These tips DO NOT apply to the electric or hybrid-vehicle battery systems.

    DO:

    • Keep your truck or car battery and case clean. Dirt and other deposits can prematurely corrode battery terminals.
    • Check the cables to make sure they are firmly attached to the auto battery terminals.
    • Always disconnect your battery’s negative cable first. Always reattach your battery’s negative cable last.
    • The process of charging a truck or car battery releases highly flammable hydrogen. Always charge auto batteries in a well-ventilated area.
    • Handle auto batteries carefully. A cracked case could spill harmful chemicals and cause severe burns and blindness.
    • Always dispose of a car or truck battery in accordance with state and local regulations.

    DON’T:

    • Wear jewelry when working with an auto battery.
    • Lean over an auto battery.
    • Guess as to what type/size of car or truck battery your vehicle needs.
    • Attempt to charge a frozen car or truck battery; doing so may cause the battery to explode.
    • Disconnect a battery’s cables while your vehicle is running.

I have been taking my vehicles there since 2011 when I moved to Naples and with a brand new car purchase will continue to use this location. I am not one to recommend places and services to others but will certainly speak positively to others about my experiences.

    Sep 11, 2015 Janice T.

I came in for an oil change, Marcos was the manager, he was polite, courteous, and very helpful. This is such a refreshing change from the normal, ” I don’t really care” attitude, take good care of him, good employees are very hard to find.

    Feb 02, 2015 Miguel R.

I am giving a great compliment to Atiba for his customer service at this location. Atiba always tried to do the best for his customers. even that must of the time he is there by himself. Tuffy as a Company should reward this guy for his work ethics and great service.

I highly recommend this Tuffy! They were very flexible and accommodating. It took a couple of appointments and a lot of determination to find the issue. But they did! Thank you, Perry and Robert!

    Jul 28, 2014 Pamela E.

They were very friendly and helpful. I had an oil change and tire rotation. They found things wrong, but did not pressure me to allow them to fix them. They also told me what to watch for. For example; leaky hoses and such. I would recommend them for an oil change. Also the waiting room is nice, with free coffee, and it was very clean.

    May 31, 2014 Chansee L.

I have been using this Tuffy location since 2009, not long after it opened on Vanderbilt Beach Road. My 2003 Mustang will be turning over 100,000 miles this week and it runs like a new car. I cannot say enough to praise the knowledge and professionalism of this staff. Tuffy knows my car probably better than I do and they are helping me to take the very best care possible of my Mustang. THANK YOU.

    Mar 21, 2012 Tom J.

I needed a front end alignment for my car. The technican showed me there was a problem with the tires and recommmended replacing them. The manager, offered up several choices and recommended the best tires for the money, and it was far from the most expensive. He was very professional as is his crew. The tires arrived the next day as promised and when I showed up I got right in. I’d recommend this Tuffy Auto Center to everyone who needs quality work done at a fair price. And, if you’re a car guy or gal, the crew here will talk with you about cars as long as you want! It was an enjoyable experience.

    Oct 17, 2011 Chad L.

Car Accident Lawyer Attorney – Auto Injury Lawyers – Buttafuoco – Associates

    #

There were an estimated 6,420,000 cars involved in accidents in the US in 2006. The cost of these accidents exceeds 230+ Billion dollars. There were about 2.9 million injury cases and 42,636 car accident deaths. An average of 115 persons die each day in motor vehicle crashes in the United States — one every 13 minutes. According to the World Health Organization about 3000 people die in crashes each day worldwide.

Contacting an attorney who deals with personal injury (especially relating to auto accidents) can provide you with the peace of mind that no stone gets left unturned.

Here are some tips for when you should run to an attorney:

    • An injury has occurred where there has been serious injury (broken bones / hospitalization) or where injuries are likely to be permanent (paralysis);
    • A death has resulted from the accident;
    • Other parties were involved such as pedestrians or other autos;
    • The accident occurred in a construction area;
    • A police report does not accurately describe the accident and puts you at fault;
    • Important technical, legal or medical issues are involved;
    • The limits of your liability insurance are low,
    • You have no insurance. or your insurance company suggests that you did not pay your premium.
    • Your insurer starts acting funny.
    • Your insurer involves its own attorney (in this case, sprint!).

If you’ve been hurt do not hesitate contacting a car accident lawyer. Delay can weaken your ability to recover fair compensation.

We take pride in the fact that so many of our clients bring their families and friends to us when they need a Car Accident Lawyer . They know that they will be kept fully up-to-date during each step of the legal process. We welcome all calls and questions. If necessary we meet with clients in the evening, in hospital, at their home, or some other more convenient location.

Mississippi Auto Insurance – Get a Free Quote Online

The key features of a great Mississippi auto insurance policy are value and service, and Acceptance strives to excel in both these areas. We offer a selection of industry-leading insurance products, including the following core types of coverage:

    • Mississippi mandates that drivers have bodily injury liability insurance that meets a minimum of $25,000 for each party and $50,000 per accident, and liability coverage for property damage of at least $25,000 for each accident.

    Basic Liability Coverage

If you drive in this state, you must carry proof of a Mississippi auto insurance policy with a minimum level of liability coverage. A liability insurance policy will only protect the other party in an accident if you were at fault. This includes automotive repairs, replacement of damaged property and medical bills for the other driver and any passengers riding with them. Since auto accidents can be very expensive, drivers often go for additional coverage to protect their finances.

    Comprehensive and Collision Coverage

You and your vehicle will be covered with comprehensive and collision protection, even if you are at fault for an accident. This type of coverage provides protection from the exorbitant costs related to property damage and rental car bills related to a collision, theft, fire, damaged windshield or vandalism. We offer a wide range of comprehensive and collision coverage with lower monthly payments for higher-deductible plans, so you can get the policy that’s right for you.

    Uninsured Motorist Coverage

There are many drivers without insurance in this state, and many more are only carrying the bare minimum insurance that may not cover even half of the costs associated with a serious auto accident. If you want a Mississippi auto insurance policy that will keep you covered even if an uninsured driver collides with your vehicle, you should definitely add uninsured motorist coverage to your Acceptance policy.

Non-owner car insurance: Coverage for drivers who don’t own vehicles

By Penny Gusner. Insure.com – Last updated: Sept. 25, 2015

If you don’t own a car but still drive often, a non-owner car insurance policy may be a wise purchase.

When you drive someone else s car, the owner s auto insurance policy should cover you, assuming you are using the car with the owner s permission. However, if you get into an accident and the damages exceed the amount specified by the owner s liability coverage, you may be on the hook for a significant amount of money.

When this happens, the injured party could come after your personal assets including your savings and home to recover the rest. Non-owner insurance can help protect you by increasing the amount of your total coverage.

Non-owner insurance can also be helpful if you will be without a car for a period say, for spending a year abroad and want to maintain continuous insurance coverage to prevent higher rates in the future. (Insurers typically charge higher rates if your insurance coverage has lapsed recently.)

If you don t own a car but your high-risk driver profile requires you to file a proof-of-insurance certificate with your state such as an SR-22 or FR-44 a non-owner policy can fulfill the liability coverage requirement you need to keep your driver s license.

(Looking for a quote on a non-owner car insurance policy? You can call the Insure.com call center at 1-855-289-9175 for assistance.)

There may even be instances of needing a non-owner policy when you actually own a vehicle. If you are happy with your current auto insurance carrier, but find yourself in need of a state filing — such as an SR-22 or FR-44 — and your current carrier does not offer them, you can take out an additional policy just to satisfy the state’s requirement. These supplementary policies are generally very inexpensive as they don’t cover your vehicle and can be set to your state’s minimum requirements.

    What non-owner car insurance covers

A non-owner insurance policy focuses mainly on providing you with bodily injury and property damage liability coverage. Some car insurance companies also offer medical payments and uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage as part of their non-owner car insurance policies.

Optional coverage types, such as comprehensive, collision, towing reimbursement and rental reimbursement, are not available with non-owner policies since there is no vehicle attached to the policy. There are typically no deductibles associated with non-owner car insurance.

Your non-owner auto insurance may cover you when you rent a vehicle and are involved in an accident. However, not all non-owner policies extend coverage to rental vehicles, so check the fine print of the policy before buying if you expect to rent cars.

If you borrow someone’s car and crash it, the vehicle owner’s car insurance pays out first, and if it’s not enough to cover damages, your non-owner policy would then pay out as secondary coverage provided your policy s liability limit is high enough. For the non-owner policy to kick in as secondary coverage, its liability limit has to be higher than the car owner s liability limit.

For instance, if the car owner’s liability limit is $10,000 for property damage, and you cause $17,000 in property damage in an accident, your non-owner insurance would cover only the last $7,000 provided your liability limit is at least $17,000.

Remember, however, that this pays for the car that you hit, not your friend s car or your rental vehicle. A non-owner policy doesn t include collision coverage, so it won t cover repairs to the vehicle you were driving.

How much does non-owner coverage cost

A non-owners policy costs “significantly less” than a typical insurance policy, says Amanda Shore, operations analyst at the Insurance.com Florida call center.

That’s because non-owner drivers typically drive less than drivers who own their own vehicle, reducing the chances they’ll be in a wreck, Shore says.

To get a non-owner car insurance quote, you must have a valid driver s license and not own a car. Most insurers also mandate that you don t have regular access to a car, such as one owned by another member of your household. If someone in your home has a vehicle, you should get listed on that auto insurance policy if possible.

As with a conventional policy, it s wise to compare car insurance quotes before choosing your non-owner policy. While non-owner insurance is generally cheaper than conventional policies, there are still significant price variations between carriers, particularly if you have a less-than-perfect driving record.

    Car Insurance in New Mexico

    Car Insurance in New Mexico

As part of New Mexico’s financial responsibility laws, registered vehicles must be covered by car insurance. This is to help protect drivers from costly and unfortunate incidents.

    New Mexico Car Insurance Requirements

New Mexico law requires you to carry liability car insurance to help cover costs associated with injuries or property damage resulting from car accidents you may cause.

Your liability insurance must have the following minimum coverage limits per accident:

    • $25,000 for injury or death,per person .
    • $50,000 for total injury or death if multiple people are hurt in the accident.
    • $10,000 for property damage .

    Optional Coverage

In addition to having liability coverage, you might want to consider other types of car insurance coverage to give you more protection in the event of an accident.

Most car insurance companies offer the following optional types of coverage.

    • Collision – This coverage will help pay for damages to your car after a traffic accident.
    • Comprehensive – This will help you with damages to your car that result from several types of incidents that do not involve traffic accidents. Examples include water and fire damage.
    • Medical payments – This will help cover your medical costs if you are injured in an accident.
    • Towing and labor.

NOTE : Collision and comprehensive coverages are usually required as part of a car loan or lease agreement.

    Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage

Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage will help pay for your expenses when you’ve been in a car accident with a driver who does not have car insurance, or whose car insurance amounts won’t adequately cover your costs.

Technically, New Mexico requires these car insurance coverages to be part of your policy. However, you do have the option to turn down uninsured/underinsured coverage and still be compliant with car insurance laws, but you must do so in writing.

    Proof of Insurance

New Mexico uses an electronic database to monitor the car insurance status of all vehicles registered in the state.

It is the responsibility of your insurance carrier to report your car insurance status into the database.

If the database does not show that you are meeting New Mexico’s car insurance requirements, you will be sent a letter notifying you that you must work with your insurance company to have your car insurance status updated in the database.

If you do not have insurance or you do not comply with your warning letter, you face suspension of your registration.

    Reinstate Your Registration

If your registration has been suspended due to a car insurance violation, you must:

    • Obtain valid car insurance.
    • Have your carrier update your information to the database.

Once your information has been updated, you will have to pay a $30 reinstatement fee.

New Mexico Motor Vehicle Insurance Plan

Although all registered vehicles must be insured in New Mexico, some drivers might find it difficult to find a car insurance company willing to provide them coverage because of their driving or claims history.

The New Mexico Motor Vehicle Insurance Plan is a program meant to help high-risk drivers obtain the legally required auto insurance.

Along with several other states’ plans, New Mexico’s plan is part of the Western Association of Automobile Insurance Plans (WAAIP). To apply to New Mexico’s plan, contact WAAIP at (415) 765-6767 and they will assist you in finding car insurance.

    Consumer Assistance

Because car insurance can be a complicated and sometimes highly sensitive issue, New Mexico’s Office of Superintendent of Insurance provides consumer assistance.

If you are having a dispute with your car insurance company, you can:

    • Call the Consumer Assistance Bureau at (505) 827-4601.
    • File a complaint online .

    Determining Your Car Insurance Rates

Several factors go into determining the price of your premium.

While shopping for New Mexico car insurance, keep in mind that the following will often factor into your rates:

    • Your driving record .
    • Your car’s:
      • Make.
      • Model.
      • Year.
    • Your credit score.
    • Deductibles:
      • This is the out-of-pocket amount you are responsible for towards a claim.
      • Higher deductibles mean lower premiums.

    Car Insurance Discounts

A great way to save on NM car insurance is to take advantage of discounts that may be offered to you.

When comparing car insurance quotes, inquire about these common discounts:

While discounts can help you save on car insurance, the best way to obtain low-cost car insurance in New Mexico is to maintain a driving record that reflects safe and violation-free driving.

Most Stolen Cars in New Mexico

Car insurance rates are typically higher for cars that are common targets of theft.

The following is a list of New Mexico’s most stolen cars in 2013, according to www.nicb.org :

    1. Ford Pickup (Full Size).
    2. Honda Accord.
    3. Chevrolet Pickup (Full Size).
    4. Honda Civic.
    5. Dodge Pickup (Full Size).
    6. GMC Pickup (Full Size).
    7. Toyota Camry.
    8. Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee.

How To Repair Car Seat Or Truck Seat

Mac’s Upholstery is tops in car and truck seat repair. There are right and wrong ways to repair a car or truck seat. We’re posting this page to review some of the more commmon seat repair dos and don’ts.

    Methods of Car Seat Repair

People frequently call Mac’s Upholstery asking how to repair a torn car seat, how to repair leather car seat or how to fix a damaged truck seat. There’s no easy answer. It depends on a couple of things: how do you want the seat to look after the repair and how long do you want the repair to last.

Duct Tape Seat Repair If the repair is temporary or strictly for functional purposes, a few strips of duct tape over the damaged area may work for a while. Colored cloth or vinyl tape is another popular fix. Of course, the brand of tape, its adhesive properties, weather conditions and the location of the tear make a big difference.

One thing is certain: at some point, the tape will tear or its adhensive will go bad. Then you’ll have to repair the repair . Removing old tape can further damage your car seat. We don’t recommend this approach.

Super Glue, Gorilla Glue Vinyl Repair Kits

If the damaged section is tiny and the fabric edges are still in good shape, you can try Super Glue or Gorilla Glue; pull the fabric edges together, then apply a bead of glue. A strip of tape may be necessary to hold the fabric edges together as the glue dries. When done correctly, this sort of do-it-yourself repair works fine if you’re not concerned with appearance.

Vinyl Repair Kit Those vinyl repair kits you sometimes see advertised on late night TV promise perfection, but rarely deliver. Using a vinyl repair kit requires a keen eye for detail and an artist’s touch. Not only do you have to match the color of the damaged section, you have to properly mix the chemicals and then apply the correct texture before the substance dries. In many cases, the texture options provided in the kit won’t match the damaged section. Colors can be problematic, as well. They can fade, wear off or simply go bad.

    Vinyl Repair Kit Product Reviews

Replace Damaged Section As a practical mater, it’s just about impossible to repair anything other than a very small tear with a vinyl repair kit. The repair may hold, but we’ve never seen one that looks right. This is how one product reviewer describes working with a repair kit, “I’m not sure what I expected, I guess too much, or perhaps this just delivers too little. Its basically like fixing your car leather with painted duct tape that has better stick than actual duct tape” .

Another product reviewer puts it this way, “I bought this product to repair the leather seat in my car. Shame on Mercedes for using cheap bonded leather and it wore away on the driver’s seat. The area was no more than 3/8 X 4″ and the cloth backing was in tact. About all this product did was color the cloth and possibly infuse the cloth with some vinyl which I hope will give the cloth some extra strength. BUT it does not look repaired. Despite the amount I cleaned the area after the curing process there was still residue ruined a pair of shorts (luckily I wore a pair that I was willing to ruin). I would not waste my money on this product”.

    Shoe Repair Products

Have you heard of “Shoe Goo”? Shoe Goo is formulated to repair tennis shoes, but we’ve seen it used to fix car upholstery. Very messy. Not a good idea, unless it’s a temporary patch.

This website recommends repairing a damaged car seat by stitching the torn fabric together with an upholstery needle and thread. This approach works if you don’t mind your car upholstery looking like a darned sock or Frankenstein’s forehead.

The Best Way To Repair A Damaged Car Seat

After decades of doing this sort of thing, we believe there’s only one truly effectively way to repair a car seat. You have to replace the entire section of fabric surrounding the tear (right). Often times you can purchase fabric identical to the original material, which makes color and texture matching a breeze. If you care about the appearance and durability of your car seats, this is the only way to go.

Click here for our car seat repair service. Click here for our truck seat repair service.

    Repair Damaged Upholstery

Mac’s Upholstery repairs damaged leather, velour, microfiber, cloth and vinyl upholstery. Instead of junking your damaged furniture, have it repaired. When done properly, repairing your upholstery can be affordable and environmentally friendly.

    Vinyl Repair Leather Repair

Patching a specific tear or burn in a piece of furniture may seem efficient, but there are problems associated with this approach. Matching the texture, grain or color of a small section of damaged fabric is difficult at best. It’s also labor-intensive and costly. What’s worse, tiny touch-up repairs often go bad.

A more durable, aesthetically pleasing alternative involves replacing the entire section of fabric on which the damage is located. By replacing the section of fabric instead of just the spot where it’s damaged, an upholstery repair looks seamless. This technique is usually less expensive, as well.

Here’s a great example of the correct way to repair ripped upholstery. A number of these patio seatbacks (above) were torn. Instead of sewing together the shredded webbing, we matched the vinyl fabric then replaced the entire seatback. Get the Best Car Insurance Rates

Everyone knows you should carefully shop around when buying a car, but all too many drivers neglect to purchase insurance with the same level of care. Failing to thoroughly comparison-shop can leave you paying more than you need to for coverage, and far from getting the best car insurance coverage for your needs.

Below are tips to help you seek out the best insurance coverage at the lowest rate.

    What Is Good Car Insurance?

Getting cheap car insurance does not necessarily mean you bought the right type or amount of coverage.

Having “good coverage” means you don’t find yourself paying significant amounts of money out of pocket after an accident.

When you have found the right insurance provider:

    • You’ll feel assured that you’ll be able to handle the financial costs after an accident.
    • You’ll feel comfortable knowing you’re not overpaying for your car insurance.

Comparison-shopping for car insurance can help you make sure you’ve picked the right insurance coverage.

Deciding on the Best Insurance Coverage

You need car insurance to comply with state laws, to satisfy your lender or leaseholder, and to protect your assets.

Each state has different financial responsibility laws that dictate the least amount of insurance you must have. However, unless you have very few assets, the smallest amount of insurance is most likely not enough coverage. Talk to your insurance company about how much coverage and what types of optional insurance coverages might be right for you. These typically include:

    • Comprehensive.
    • Collision.
    • Medical payments.
    • Uninsured/underinsured motorist.
    • GAP coverage.
    • Towing and labor.
    • Rental reimbursement.

NOTE . If you have a loan or lease on your car, it will typically come with coverage requirements. Be sure you understand these when reviewing your loan/lease agreement.

For more information on what your state requires, please visit our section on state car insurance requirements.

What if I Have a Loan?

While commonly believed, it is actually a myth that your car insurance will pay off your loan if your car is totaled. In reality, it will pay the fair market value.

The fair market value, or actual cash value, is the sales price minus depreciation. A car depreciates at a surprisingly rapid rate. In fact, just driving a car off the lot after purchase decreases its value by an average of 10%. During the first 5 years, the car’s value depreciates by an average of 15% to 25% every year.

In the event of a serious car accident, you can be left with substantial costs due to normal depreciation. This is where GAP and loan/lease coverage come in.

To protect yourself from having to pay a loan on a car that no longer functions, you can purchase either:

    • Guaranteed Auto Protection (GAP) insurance – Covers the difference between your insurance payout and what you still owe on your car loan after insurance pays, without any maximum limits.
    • Loan/lease payments coverage – Also covers the gap between what you owe on the car and its current value, but only covers a percentage of your car’s actual cash value in the event of a total loss. This might not be enough to cover the gap between your loan and the cash value.

    Shopping Smart

    Ratings

Like most consumer purchases, different insurance companies charge different premiums for the same insurance coverage. However, all car insurance companies do not give the same level of service or share the same rankings.

Insurance companies are given a Best Insurance Ranking provided by the A. M. Best Company. Since 1899, the A.M. Best Company has provided ratings of insurance companies based on their financial stability. The stronger the rating, the more likely the company is able to pay if you file a claim.

Rankings range from AAA down to D.

    Sales Methods

Insurance companies use one of three methods to sell their policies.

    1. Exclusive agents. These agents only sell the products of a single insurance carrier.
    2. Independent agents. These agents represent many companies and can give you multiple quotes on car insurance to compare.
    3. Direct market. Sales are usually with one company and completed over the Internet, phone, or by mail.

All three sales methods have their merits. The most important thing is to get multiple quotes from the insurance companies you feel most comfortable comparing, as insurance rates can fluctuate widely from insurance carrier to insurance carrier.

    What to Notice

When you compare car insurance companies, you should pay close attention to the following:

    • The premium. This is the monthly cost for your car insurance.
    • Applicable discounts .
      • One company may offer you discounts that others did not.
      • Ask each insurance company you speak with about car insurance discounts for which you may qualify.
    • A. M. Best Rating. This rating indicates the financial strength of an insurance company and their likelihood of paying on your claim.
    • Customer service.
      • Most state insurance departments have lists of complaints against insurance companies. These complaints are frequently referred to as “valid complaints.”
      • The higher the number of complaints or the complaint ratio, the higher the likelihood of the company violating a policy, contract, or statute.

Doing your research when shopping for car insurance quotes can ensure you get the best rates, great coverage, and stellar customer service. In contrast, neglecting to comparison-shop can leave you with a policy that does little for you in the long run and can hurt financially if you get into an accident. Informed consumers always get the best deal.

    Accident Laws By State

There are a few key laws that play an important role in a car accident claim. Specifically, “fault” vs. “no-fault” laws, statute of limitations to file an injury lawsuit, and limits on the amount of compensation available. You can find all these rules for your state in the links below:

We encounter car accidents every day. As we drive to and from work, run errands and cart the kids around to their activities, we daily contend with poor road conditions and drivers that are distracted or impaired in some way. While we do our best to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe on the road, sometimes our efforts are not enough.

When you are involved in an accident as the result of another driver’s negligence, you may be entitled to take legal action to recover your damages. Damages may include any injuries you sustained as the result of the accident and any costs you incurred as a result of those injuries such as medical bills, prescription drug costs, lost wages due to time missed from work and a number of other possibilities experienced auto accident lawyer can discuss with you.

If you or a loved one has been the victim of someone else’s negligence on the road, it is important to contact an experienced auto accident attorney as soon as possible after your accident. The longer you wait to pursue legal action against the person or party responsible for your damaged vehicle and injuries, the harder it will be to receive the compensation you are entitled to under law. Contacting an attorney soon after your accident will provide you with access to the information and legal representation you need as you deal with insurance companies and the after math of a car accident.

An experienced auto accident lawyer should be prepared to help you through the turmoil you face after a car accident, whether you are dealing with an uninsured/underinsured motorist, drunk driver, distracted driver (e.g. cell phone), aggressive driver or any other traffic offender.

What happens in a moment has the potential to affect the rest of your life. Don’t waste time after you’ve been injured in a car accident. Contact an experienced auto accident attorney to learn how you can fight for the money you need and deserve.

Car Accident Liability: Proving Fault in a Car Crash

In almost all car, bike, or motorcycle accidents, it’s important to prove who was liable or responsible, that is: who made the mistake or was negligent. It may be obvious to all who was at fault in an accident, but just saying that often isn’t enough for insurance companies. You make a stronger argument to your insurer if you can support your side of the story with evidence. The following are things that can make your argument stronger.

Police don’t always come to the scene of an accident. but if they do, the officer will probably have to make some sort of official report about the accident. The police generally come to accidents that involve injuries, but they often stop at non-injury accidents as well. If they do show up at your accident, be sure to ask the officer how to get a copy of the report once it’s filed.

Sometimes police officers don’t show up at an accident. In places where police resources are limited, the parties often have to report the accident to the closest police station. After filing a police report, investigators may pick up your report and conduct their own inquiries. You can obtain copies of these reports .

Police reports are the written recollections of the officer that studied the accident. These reports often contain great evidence about liability, such as the officer’s opinion that one car was speeding based on the officer’s observations of the length of the skid-marks. Officers also often indicate whether they issued any traffic tickets at the scene of an accident.

The police report can be one of the most important pieces of evidence you present to your insurance company. Insurance companies may drag their feet about issuing car accident liability reports without first obtaining a copy of the police report.

    Amending a Police Report

If there’s a mistake in a police report, it can be fixed. If the mistake involves a factual error, like incorrect vehicle or insurance information, you can generally amend the report by showing the police that information.

However, amending a disputed fact, like fault determination, is much more difficult. Police departments often have different procedures for objecting to a report. You should contact the department involved in your accident to learn about their procedure. In many cases, you simply add your statement to the accident report. While it’s difficult to overcome a fault determination, it’s not impossible. You should consult with an accident attorney to determine the strength of your case.

    State Traffic Laws

State traffic laws, often called the vehicle code, are another great place to find support for your argument that the other driver was at fault. These laws are often condensed into simple-to-read Rules of the Road that may be at your local DMV. You can also find many vehicle codes online at various state government websites, public law libraries, and in FindLaw Codes .

After you’ve found the law that applies to your accident, you’re in a better position to negotiate with your or the other driver’s insurance company. For example, a code relating to yielding the right of way may be useful for a merging accident. Have the exact wording of the code, as it won’t help you to cite a law incorrectly to an insurance company.

    No Fault Car Accident Liability

Certain kinds of accidents will almost always be one driver’s fault. In these situations, insurance companies rarely argue about which driver is responsible and will most likely attempt to settle immediately.

    Rear End Accidents

Rear-end collisions are one of the most common types of accidents. If a car hits you from behind, it’ll almost never be your fault, even if you were stopped. One basic driving rule is that you’re supposed to leave enough room in front of your car to stop when the car in front of you stops suddenly. If the driver behind you couldn’t stop, he or she probably wasn’t driving safely.

When one car’s rear end is damaged and another car’s front end is damaged, there really isn’t much to argue about who hit who. But the driver who hit you may have a claim against a third party driver that caused you to stop suddenly or the car behind him that pushed him into your car. This doesn’t affect his or her liability for the damage to your car.

Although another driver was probably at fault, you may also be partially at fault if your negligence contributed to the accident. For example, if your brake lights were out or you had a flat tire and decided to stop in the middle of the road, you may also bear some comparative negligence which will reduce your monetary compensation.

Similarly, left turn accidents are almost always the fault of the driver taking the left turn. Cars coming straight into an intersection will have the right of way in most cases, making the car turning left responsible for the accident. If the car going straight through the intersection is speeding or runs a red light, this may shift some or all of the liability away from the car turning left. Rarely, if the car started turning left while it was safe to do so, but was forced to stop because of some unforeseen circumstance, then some of the liability may be shifted.

How to Get a Free Case Review

While minor fender-benders typically can be resolved simply by exchanging insurance information, even minor accidents can result in serious injuries. If you have been injured in a car accident, have an experienced injury attorney review your claim free of charge. If you have a valid claim, many attorneys will wait until you have settled your case to collect their fees.

How to Drive a Car (with Pictures) #drive #car #insurance

    How to Drive a Car

Learning how to drive is a lot easier than it looks. It looks intimidating from the passenger’s seat, or in the movies, but once you get behind the wheel and gently put your foot on the pedal, the process becomes very intuitive. If you’re a defensive driver and learn to take things slow in the beginning, you’ll be well on your way to mastering the basics. This wikiHow assumes you’ll be driving an automatic transmission vehicle. If you’re not driving an automatic, click here to learn the basics of driving stick-shift (manual transmission), although the general process will still be the same.

    Steps Edit

    Part One of Four:
Getting Comfortable with the Car’s Controls Edit

Adjust the seat so that your feet comfortably reach both pedals. You can adjust your seat forward and backward, as well as up and down. Some cars will have electronic controls (usually on the left side of the seat), while older cars will usually have a latch underneath the seat that let’s you control the position of the seat. But you can tell the difference.

Familiarize yourself with the foot pedals. In an automatic car, the two foot pedals control acceleration and braking, respectively. The rightmost pedal (which is usually smaller than the other pedal) is the acceleration pedal, and pressing down on it speeds the car up. The pedal to the left (which is usually larger than the acceleration pedal) is the brake pedal, and pressing down on it slows the car down.

    • Even if you are left-foot dominant, use your right foot to reach both pedals. It will feel weird at first if you’re left-footed, but getting used to it is important because it’s proper technique and ultimately safer.
    • Never use both feet at once to reach the pedals. Only use one foot — your right foot — to access each pedal. This will make it impossible to accidentally press down on both pedals at the same time.

Adjust your car’s mirrors so that you can see through them clearly and effectively. Your car should have three mirrors: one rear view mirror, which allows you to see directly behind the rear windshield in back of you, and two outside mirror which let you see to either side of the car and protect you from blind spots. [1]

    • Your rear view mirror should be positioned so that when you’re in your normal driving position, you can see directly behind you and as much of the rear windshield as possible.
    • The Society of Automotive Engineers has one recommendation for how to position your outside mirrors in order to eliminate blind spots. It recommends positioning the mirrors further outward than normal, so that they just overlap with the viewing angle of the rear view mirror. [2] Although disorienting at first, this positioning actually clues the driver in to cars in her blind spots which she might otherwise only be able to spot by looking over her shoulder.

Know where the parking brake, also called a hand or emergency brake, is and what it does. The parking brake is a longer lever with a button on its very tip. When the parking brake is pulled up, it helps locks the car in place, ensuring that it doesn’t move. When the brake is let down, it is disengaged and the car can freely move. Make sure that your parking brake is disengaged before you start driving.

Get a feel for the shift lever. The shift lever is usually positioned in between the two front seats of a car, and it controls some of the car’s gears (park, neutral, drive, reverse). Sometimes, the shift lever is on the right side of the steering wheel.

    • If your shift lever is engaged in Park and you turn your car on, your car won’t move forward no matter how much you press down on the acceleration.
    • If your shift lever is in Neutral. your car’s natural momentum will continue to carry it forward.
    • If your shift lever is in Reverse. your car will move backwards instead of moving forwards when you take your foot off the brake.
    • If your shift lever is in Drive. your car will move forwards when you take your foot off the brake.

Understand your basic dashboard controls. These gauges help show the driver how much gas the car is carrying, how fast the car is going, how hot the engine is, and how many RPM (revolutions per minute) the engine is clocking.

    • The speedometer is probably the most important dashboard control in the car. It tells you how fast your car is traveling, in either miles per hour (MPH) or kilometers per hour (KPH).
    • The RPM gauge tells you how hard your engine is working. Most RPM gauges will have red areas starting at 6,000 or 7,000 RPM. When the dial in the gauge, travels into the red, learn to ease off the acceleration.
    • The gas gauge tells you how much fuel your car has. It usually has a dial that travels between “F” and “E,” with “E” signaling “empty” and “F” signaling “full.”
    • The temperature gauge in the car tells you whether your car’s engine is overheating. It usually has a dial that travels between “H” and “C,” signaling “hot” and “cold.” Your dial should normally be in the center of the gauge.

With a manual transmission, how do I slowly move along in heavy traffic when the road is hilly and steep? Does it require special coordination among pedals and hand brakes?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • Yes. Adjusting heavily between the clutch and accelerator pedal is a must. Using the brakes when in a prolonged stop and using the E-brake to free your acceleration foot is a good skill to have to not roll back into the vehicles behind you and to prevent you from stepping to hard on the gas.

How hard must I press on the brake to stop the car?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • You need to press down hard but gradually so you don’t stop too suddenly. Make sure that the person behind you has enough time to realize you’re stopping, or they might rear end you.

How do I overcome my fear of driving?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • Have someone drive you to a safe open area free of pedestrians and other cars. Hop in the car and just drive. You’ll get a feel of the wheel after you practice a bit in an open space.

Is it more difficult to drive a manual transmission or automatic transmission?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • Manual transmission requires the use of three pedals and timing for the clutch to engage gears. Therefore, a manual transmission is more complex and more difficult to drive than a car with an automatic transmission.

    How do I drive downhill?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • You have to release the acceleration pedal and concentrate more on the brake pedal to help regulate your speed.

What can I do if I’m driving down a hill and my brakes fail?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • Concentrate on steering and pump the brakes. If that fails, use your hand brake/emergency brake.

How do I drive in traffic?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • Keep an eye on your speed. If traffic is very slow (to a point where you must stop the car), make sure you have a good amount of space in front of your car. (Tip: When slowing down and coming to a stop, look at the car in front for yours back tire and stop when you see the bottom of their tires meet your car’s hood.)

How many pedals are in an automatic car?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • There are 2 pedals: the gas pedal which moves the car, and the brake that slows or stops the car.

How do I make a turn and keep the car on the left side after turning?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • Turn a little sharper turn than normal, then adjust the direction the car is going.

    How do I reverse park?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • Begin about 3-5 feet perpendicular to a parking spot about 2 ahead of the one you want to park in, and start backing up. Begin to turn when you see the right line in your right hand side mirror, using the right line to guide you. When you see the left line in your left hand mirror, use both lines to guide you into the parking spot while backing up.

Chris Soules Lawyer Gunning For Media in Fatal Car Crash Case

    4/28/2017 4:42 PM PDT

Chris Soules ‘ lawyers are going after the Sheriff’s Dept. and prosecutors, clearly trying to establish they’re in bed with the media by leaking damaging information about Chris that could affect his right to a fair trial.

Lawyers for “The Bachelor ” star have just filed legal docs looking to find all contact the Sheriffs, prosecutors and other law enforcement agencies involved in the case had with the media. The lawyers want text messages, emails, electronic log books (presumably this includes cell phone calls), journals and appointments between law enforcement and the media.

The docs also ask for any evidence that payment was offered to members of law enforcement for interviews or statements.

The lawyers are demanding law enforcement preserve all these records, presumably so they can be inspected.

As for why. several reasons. First, Soules’ lawyers have already complained media coverage has tainted the case and inaccurately portrayed their client’s actions the night of the fatal crash .

There’s another reason. the lawyers may well try and make a case that prosecuting Soules is more about a publicity grab than justice.

Get Necessary Medical Care After Your Car Accident

If you are seriously injured in a car accident, emergency services will probably come to the scene and take you to the closest hospital, where you will receive all the medical care you need. But what about less serious accidents, where there is no immediate pain or noticeable discomfort? Many times, people involved in car accidents don’t even know they have been injured. One reason for this is that your body responds to pain signals and the stress of your accident by producing morphine-like hormones called endorphins. Endorphins (and adrenaline) mask the pain until your body and mind have had time to recover from the stress of the accident.

In this article, we’ll explain why it’s important to get proper medical care after a car accident — obviously for your health, but also for any injury claim you might make at some point down the line. (Learn more about What to Do After a Car Accident.)

Whenever You Have Symptoms, See Your Doctor

A lot of personal injury attorneys have stories about clients coming into their offices saying they felt no pain at the scene of their accident, or later the same day. But the following morning they woke up feeling like they had been run over by a truck. These stories are credible — they’re not examples of healthy people looking for a payout via a lawsuit. It can take several hours, several days or even a week for injuries or serious discomfort to register with a car accident victim. (Learn more about Common Car Accident Injuries.)

So, the lesson is this: whenever you feel symptoms of injury after a car accident — pain, numbness, dizziness, not feeling like yourself, whatever it is — get medical care! Don’t assume that your injuries will clear up on their own. Do the safe thing and get checked out. (Click here to learn more about why it’s crucial to get necessary medical care after a car accident.)

Continue Treatment Until You Are Released

After a car accident, if your doctor diagnoses an injury and begins treatment, continue the course of treatment until your doctor releases you from it.

There are two main reasons why it is important that you follow through with your treatment. The obvious reason is that your doctor is in the best position to determine how seriously you are injured, and to prescribe the best treatment for you — to help you recover more quickly, and to make you as comfortable as possible while you are recovering. The second reason: your doctor’s records of your visits are the best way to document and verify the nature and extent of your injuries, as well as the course and duration of your treatment. This verification is essential if you later make a car accident injury claim.

    Review Your Doctor’s Treatment Records

If you’re being treated for injuries stemming from a car accident, ask your doctor for copies of your medical records. Read them over carefully, and have your doctor correct any errors that you find.

When you review your records, pay attention to the description of your car accident. This is usually part of the first entry in the records. Did the doctor get it right when describing the accident, or did he misunderstand the facts? Does the report say that your car was struck on the right, when actually the impact was on the left? Does it say that you were going 45 when you were really going 25, as it says in the police report that was prepared after the accident?

Insurance adjusters and defense lawyers who are on the other driver’s side will use any inconsistencies like these to try to prove that the accident didn’t happen the way you say it did.

Also make sure that the medical records accurately state your symptoms.

Finally, check to make sure that your doctor got your medical history right. If your doctor has written that you have a history of neck problems like the one she is treating, but you’ve never had any neck problems in the past, you need to have that information corrected. If you make an injury claim, the defense always looks at your medical history to find something (such as a pre-existing condition) that they can point to as the “real” cause of your current symptoms. So, make sure that your medical history is accurate, especially when it comes to pre-existing conditions.

11 Factors That Affect Car Insurance Rates How to Lower Your Costs

When shopping for car insurance. it can be tempting to reduce your rates by choosing lower amounts of coverage or by raising your deductibles. These are, of course, the two most obvious factors that affect the cost of your auto insurance.

You may not realize it, but your overall rate is also affected by many more different factors some of which you can control, and many of which you cannot. However, knowing what affects your rate can help you make a more informed decision when purchasing insurance, and can help you know exactly what to do to lower your expenses.

    Demographic Factors

Your gender, age, marital status, geographical location, and credit score all affect your insurance rates in different ways.

    1. Gender and Age
Young men usually incur higher rates than young women as statistically, more male teenagers have accidents than female teenagers. However, older men generally have better rates than older women. Some evidence suggests that older women are in more minor accidents than older men though the difference in premium costs usually isn t drastic.

    2. Marital Status
Married people tend to have fewer accidents than single people; therefore, getting married (especially for men) can significantly lower your rate. How much your rate decreases depends on your previous driving history if you are a man who has never been in an accident and has a clean driving record, you could see your rates nearly halved.

    3. Where You Live
Because most traffic accidents occur close to home, the area you live in greatly affects your rates. More densely populated neighborhoods with more cars mean you are at a higher risk of accidents, theft, and collisions with injuries.

Repairing your car also costs more in some areas, and some areas have higher rates of theft. Plus, in this economy, many urban areas with high unemployment rates have a lot of uninsured drivers, as many people can t afford to insure their cars. Detroit and Philadelphia are two of the most expensive cities in which to insure a car, as they both have high traffic density and high rates of uninsured drivers.

    4. Credit Score
Many insurance companies take your credit score into account when determining your rate. There is no specific point at which your credit score begins to affect your rate, but in general, lower scores mean higher insurance premiums.

    5. Profession
Auto insurance companies may also make correlations between a person s risk of accident and their profession, and they can adjust your premium accordingly if they think you re more likely to get in an accident. For example, delivery drivers and journalists are on the road constantly, and thus are more likely to be in an accident, whereas airline pilots often just drive between the airport and home, and don t spend much time on the road. Others, such as police officers, paramedics, nuns, and insurance underwriters, often receive a good rate, as they are seen to be more careful than the average driver.

    Car-Related Factors

The car you drive significantly affects your rate, since some cars are more likely to be stolen, lack safety features that prevent accidents, or cost more to repair.

    6. Safety Rating
Owning a vehicle with a high safety rating means there is a lower chance of needing to pay for your or your passengers medical bills therefore, your rate will be lower. Owning a car with a lower safety rating, however, will usually result in a higher cost.

The safety rating is based on several factors, including the likelihood of the car s owner getting into an accident, and also how likely a passenger is to be injured in an accident. Safety features such as airbags, automatic seat belts, and traction control help make your car safer, which makes you less likely to get in an accident, as well as making it less dangerous.

    7. Vehicle Size
Larger cars are generally safer than smaller cars in an accident. Therefore, many larger cars with good safety ratings have lower premiums than smaller cars with otherwise similar ratings. However, cars with larger engines relative to body size tend to have higher rates for instance, insurance for a sports car with a V8 engine costs much more than a small car with a V4 engine.

    8. Age of the Car
Though the repair costs of an older vehicle are similar to the costs of a newer vehicle, an older car is more likely to be totaled in an accident. This is because the cost of significant repairs needed for an older car can often be higher than the vehicle s entire worth. Therefore, it is likely that the owner would simply discard the vehicle and replace it, rather than paying for repairs.

Since the cost to replace a new car is much higher than to replace an old car, newer cars are not considered to be totaled as often, and generally have much higher collision coverage rates than older autos. The higher coverage translates to a higher premium for a newer car.

However, if your car is quite old, you could probably drop the collision coverage altogether and simply save the money to buy a replacement jalopy if you get in an accident .

    9. Likelihood of Theft
Some cars are more attractive to thieves than others, and a car model that hits the top 10 most stolen list is likely to have higher rates than one that s not a likely target. But if you have a car alarm or other anti-theft features, this can lower the premium.

    Personal Driving Habits

While the above items do influence your overall rate, the most important factor in determining your insurance costs is your personal driving record.

    10. Driving History
If you have been in accidents, received any tickets, or made previous auto insurance claims. the insurance company has learned that you re more likely to make another claim than a similar driver who doesn t have any blemishes on their record. If your driving record is bad enough, some insurance companies will refuse to give you insurance at all.

Fortunately, these blemishes tend to become less important over time. So if you had some wild years with a few tickets or accidents in your past, making an effort to drive more slowly and carefully in order to avoid future problems can pay off in time. Most tickets and non-injury accidents stop affecting your rate after three years, and injury accidents generally do not affect your rate after five years. A DUI ticket can affect your premium for up to 10 years, however, and many companies won t insure someone with one.

    11. Driving Activity
Some companies can alter your rate based on what you use your car for, the distance you drive, and where and when you drive. Business commuters usually put more miles on their car, and the more you re on the road, the more likely you are to get in an accident. You may be able to get a discount on your insurance if you don t drive the car much, or don t use it to commute to work. Plus, if you can keep your car in a secure location, such as a garage, it s less likely to incur damage, which lowers your rate further.

    Final Word

Paying for car insurance is a major part of the cost of owning a car, so anything you can do to lower the rate is beneficial for your budget. Many insurance companies also offer additional discounts if you also purchase renter s insurance. homeowner s insurance. or other types of insurance as part of a bundle, or if you use alumni or fraternal group associations to get discounts.

Sunday was a great day for Wheels4Hope and the entire WRPC congregation as we celebrated our partnership and mission success. The life-changing impact of this partnership was brought to life by the car blessing following worship. The 1999 Buick Regal, donated by WRPC members Jerry and Barbara Carlson, was placed with Aleesha. Aleesha is a single working mom with 2 children (Noah, 4 years old and Corrin, 10 months). Aleesha relied on family members, the bus, and an occasional cab for transportation. She had never owned a vehicle before! Habitat for Humanity referred her to Wheels4Hope.

The pictures share Aleesha and her children’s joy. They also illustrate the transformative power of the church as the founder and faithful supporter of this vital ministry. individually and collectively through volunteers, car donations, and financial support.

Wheels4Hope is a true blessing. When I first came in for orientation I was overwhelmed with God’s love. This program is essential for me and my family to survive and stay independent by having transportation. Wheels4Hope is a humble blessing.

JS from Southlight received her Chevy Malibu. Her 6 month old daughter was here for the blessing and all smiles as her mommy received the keys to her vehicle. JS had been without a vehicle for 3 years. This car will allow her to pick up more shifts at work and also go back to school.

Marlene from PLM-Families Together received her Honda Odyssey. PLM helped Marlene get into her own home! Marlene is a mom of 8! She works full-time and had been without a vehicle for over a year.

I have a large family so it can be very challenging using public transportation, costly for taxi, and sometimes burdensome to ask people for rides. Obtaining a vehicle from Wheels4Hope would clear all those troubles away and help my family move forward to becoming self-sufficient and productive in the community. I can take them to school, programs, dr. visits, and church.

Michael received his Pontiac Sunfire at Wakeminster Baptist Church on Sunday June 15th! This vehicle is the first car Michael has ever owned – what an accomplishment! Michael completed the program at the Raleigh Rescue Mission and now has his own place! Michael works full-time and before receiving his car spent 2.5 hours on the bus just getting to his job! Michael has dreams of going back to school for engineering and now, with his own reliable transportation, he will be able to do that! Thank you to the RRM for working with Michael to become self-sufficient. Thank you to Wakeminster for your support and hosting the car blessing. Thank you to Triangle Car Care for completing all the necessary repair work on the Pontiac Sunfire! Congratulations on all your hard work and achievements Michael!!

If your donated car is placed as a program car, you can claim the full fair market value of the vehicle as a tax deduction. If not, where possible, we repair your car and sell it on our retail lot (generating the best value for your tax deduction). For all cars sold, 100% of the proceeds go to support our mission.

We partner with community agencies that promote self-sufficiency and refer applicants who are ready for the financial responsibility of owning and maintaining a car. Reliable transportation is critical to anyone seeking to find or keep a job and for parents with dependent children.

    What is Health Insurance?

Health Insurance, also known as Mediclaim in India, is a form of insurance which covers the expenses incurred on medical treatment and hospitalisation. It covers the policyholder against any financial constraints arising from medical emergencies. In case of sudden hospitalisation, illness or accident, health insurance takes care of the expenses on medicines, oxygen, ambulance, blood, hospital room, various medical tests and almost all other costs involved. By paying a small premium every year, you can ensure that any big medical expenses, if incurred, will not burn a hole in your pocket. The plan can be taken for an individual or for your family as a Family Floater Health Insurance Plan.

Major Benefits in a Health Insurance Policy

    Cashless facility

Each health insurance company ties up with a large number of hospitals to provide cashless health insurance facility. If you are admitted to any of the network hospitals, you would not have to pay the expenses from your pocket. In case the hospital is not part of the network, you will have to pay the hospital and the insurance company will reimburse the costs to you later.

    Pre-hospitalisation expenses

In case you have incurred treatment costs for the ailment for which you later get admitted to a hospital, the insurance company will bear those costs also. Usually the payout is for costs incurred between 30 to 60 days before hospitalisation.

    Hospitalisation Expenses

Costs incurred if a policyholder is admitted to the hospital for more than 24 hours are covered by the health insurance plan.

    Post-hospitalisation expenses

Even after you are discharged from the hospital, you will incur costs during the recovery period. Most mediclaim policies will cover the expenses incurred 60 to 90 days after hospitalisation.

    Day Care Procedure Expenses

Due to advancement in technology some of the treatments no more require a 24 hours of hospitalisation. Your health insurance policy will cover the costs incurred for these treatments also.

    Ambulance Charges

In most cases the ambulance charges are taken up by the policy and the policy holder usually doesn’t have to bear the burden of the same.

    Cover for Pre-existing Diseases

Health insurance policies have a facility of covering pre-existing diseases after 3 or 4 years of continuously renewing the policy, i.e. if someone has diabetes, then after completion of 3 or 4 years of continuous renewal with the same insurer (depending on the plan offered and his age), any hospitalisation due to diabetes will also be covered..

    Tax Benefits

The premiums paid for a Health Insurance Policy are exempted for Under Section 80D of the Income Tax Act. Income tax benefit is provided to the customer for the premium amount till a maximum of Rs. 15,000 for regular and Rs. 20,000 for senior citizen respectively.

    No-Claim Bonus

If there has been no claim in the previous year, a benefit is passed on to the policyholder, either by reducing the premium or by increasing the sum assured by a certain percentage of the existing premium.

    Health Check-Up

Some health insurance policies have a facility of free health check-up for the well being of the individual if there is no claim made for certain number of years.

    Organ Donor Expenses

The medical expenses incurred in harvesting the organ for a transplant is paid by the policy.

    Car Insurance in Maine

    Maine Car Insurance

In Maine, you are required to have a minimum amount of car insurance coverage to drive. If you’ve just recently moved to the state, you will need to register your vehicle within 30 days of establishing residency, and you’ll need to show proof of car insurance to do so.

Read below to learn more about car insurance requirements in Maine, optional coverage types, and discounts.

    Maine Car Insurance Requirements

In Maine, all drivers are required to hold:

    • Liability insurance.
    • Medical payments coverage.
    • Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.

Read below to learn more about each of these requirements.

    Liability Insurance

Maine mandates that all drivers in the state hold the following minimum amounts of liability insurance.

    • $50,000 for bodily injury or death. per person.
    • $100,000 for totalbodily injury or death. per accident, if multiple people were injured in an accident.
    • $25,000 for property damage .

    Medical Payments Coverage

In addition to the liability minimums outlined above, Maine also requires all vehicle operators to hold a minimum of $2,000 of medical payments coverage on their auto insurance policy.

This coverage type helps pay for your accident-related medical or funeral expenses you incur, including hospital, X-ray, chiropractic, and surgical expenses.

Medical payments coverage will still pay your expenses if you are found to be at fault for the accident.

    Uninsured Motorist Coverage

Uninsured motorist coverage, sometimes referred to as (UM), is mandatory for all Maine drivers. This coverage protects you in the following scenarios:

    • You are the victim of a hit-and-run accident.
    • The at-fault driver in your accident does not have insurance.
    • The at-fault driver has insurance limits that are too low to cover your expenses.

Uninsured motorist coverage also pays for expenses of your family members or your passengers who were hurt while in your car. Uninsured motorist coverage does not pay for any accident-related property damage.

    Required Uninsured Motorist Limits

Your uninsured motorist coverage limits must be equal to those of your liability coverage (see above) UNLESS you ask for a lower limit; in which case, you must get and sign a rejection form from your insurer. You must sign this form BEFORE the date your policy goes into effect.

NOTE: Even if you ask for an uninsured motorist limit that is lower than your liability limits, you cannot go lower than the minimum Maine liability insurance limits ($50,000 per person and $100,000 per accident).

    Optional Car Insurance in Maine

While you are only required to purchase the minimum amounts of ME liability insurance to legally drive in the state, you might find that the minimum amounts won’t adequately cover your costs in the unfortunate event of an accident.

Numerous additional coverage types are available for purchase to ensure you are protected financially after an incident. These include:

    • Collision coverage – Helps pay costs resulting from a collision with another car or object.
    • Comprehensive coverage – Absorbs some of the costs associated with damage to your vehicle from incidents other than accidents, such as fire, theft, floods, and vandalism.
    • Rental reimbursement coverage – Pays a portion of your rental car expenses while your car is being repaired after an accident.
    • Towing and labor coverage – Pays a portion of your towing expenses up to the limits of your policy.
    • Loan/lease coverage (GAP coverage) – Helps cover the difference between the actual monetary value of your vehicle at the time of loss and the balance you still owe on that vehicle.

If you are interested in any of the above, speak with your car insurance agent to discuss how the additions will affect the price of your insurance policy.

    Umbrella Policies

A great way to obtain higher liability limits without paying significantly higher premiums is to consider an umbrella policy.

An umbrella policy will provide protection above that of your standard liability coverage and will cover some losses that your standard insurance policy won’t cover.

To get an umbrella policy, you’re typically required to have the following limits of liability insurance:

    • $250,000 per person.
    • $500,000 per accident.

Umbrella endorsements generally add an additional limit of $1,000,000.

    Questions and Concerns

If you have questions or concerns about your auto insurance policy, you can contact the Maine Bureau of Insurance. Understand, however, that while the Bureau can give you information and offer assistance, it cannot:

    • Provide legal advice or act as a lawyer.
    • Make medical determinations.
    • Determine who is at fault in an accident.
    • Estimate the cash value of your vehicle or the repair expenses.
    • Force an insurance company to insure you if no laws have been broken.
    • Resolve a dispute between you and your insurance company.

You can file a complaint with the Bureau of Insurance:

    * You may use an additional sheet of paper if you need more room to explain your issue.

    Car Insurance Rates in Maine

When you shop around and compare quotes, remember that many factors will go into the calculation of your car insurance rates, including:

    • Your:
      • Driving record.
      • Location.
      • Age.
      • Gender.
      • Marital status.
    • Any previous coverage.
    • How much you use your vehicle, and for what purposes.
    • Your car’s:
      • Make.
      • Model.
      • Year.
    • How many drivers will be covered.
    • Previous claims.

    Insurance Discounts

One of the best ways to ensure a low-cost insurance policy in Maine is to ask about car insurance discounts for which you might be eligible. Most insurance companies offer some or all of the following discounts:

    • Good student.
    • Safety device.
    • Anti-theft device.
    • Low mileage.
    • Multiple vehicles.
    • Multiple policies (auto and home).
    • Driver education.

While you can save money on car insurance by asking about discounts, the best way to get cheap ME car insurance is to drive safely and maintain a clean driving record.

    Most Stolen Cars in Maine

If your car is highly targeted for theft, you may have to pay higher car insurance rates.

The following is a list of Maine’s most stolen cars in 2013, according to www.nicb.org :

    1. Ford Pickup (Full Size).
    2. GMC Pickup (Full Size).
    3. Chevrolet Pickup (Full Size).
    4. Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee.
    5. Ford Focus.
    6. Honda Civic.
    7. Dodge Caravan.
    8. Subaru Legacy.
    9. Ford Taurus.
    10. Dodge Pickup (Full Size).

Is Fault Automatic in a Rear-End Car Accident Case?

Car accidents occur in a variety of ways. From fender benders, to high-speed head-on collisions, the scenarios are almost endless. A common type of collision is when one car rear-ends another. There is a pretty well-known presumption that rear-end car accidents are always the fault of the driver who rear ended the car in front. This is not always the case. The purpose of this article is to describe why, and under what circumstances, the driver of the vehicle that rear ends another vehicle may not always be at fault. (Get the basics on Proving Fault for a Car Accident .)

Car Accidents and the Concept of Negligence

Negligence is the term used to describe when someone s conduct falls below an established standard of care. Basically, you are considered to be negligent if your actions fall short of what a reasonable person would or would not have done under the circumstances that led to the accident.

To prove that one driver was negligent in connection with a car accident, you must first prove that a duty existed. This is pretty simple, since all drivers owe one another a duty to exercise care when operating a motor vehicle. Second, you must prove the other driver breached their duty. Drivers can breach their duty of reasonable care in a number of ways; for example, by:

    • failing to pay attention to the road and look out for hazards
    • failing to stop within a reasonable time
    • failing to drive at a reasonable speed (based not just on posted speed limits but also on road conditions)
    • failing to maintain control of the vehicle
    • failing to yield the right of way
    • failing to use turn signal(s), and
    • failing to follow at a safe distance.

Third, you must prove the other driver s breach of duty was the cause of the accident.

Finally, you must establish that you were left with actual damages — such as bodily injury or damage to your vehicle — as a result of the accident.

    Establishing Fault for Rear-End Accidents

The driver of the car that rear-ends a leading vehicle will almost always be considered at least partially negligent. Every driver has a duty to follow other vehicles at a safe distance. The reason for this is because car drivers sometimes suddenly, and unexpectedly, slow down or come to a stop — to avoid a hazard in the road, for example, or simply because of traffic congestion. You are expected to have enough distance between you and the car in front of you to prevent a collision if such an unanticipated stop becomes necessary.

However, it is possible for the driver of the car that gets rear-ended to be negligent as well. Consider the following scenarios:

    • a driver reverses suddenly
    • a driver stops suddenly to make a turn and fails to execute the turn
    • a driver s brake lights do not function, and
    • a driver gets a flat tire, but does not pull over and does not engage the vehicle’s hazard lights.

In each of these examples, the driver of the car that gets rear-ended would likely be considered negligent. The legal impact of that driver s negligence will depend on how much that driver s negligence contributed to the car accident, and how your state treats accident situations where more than one party is at fault.

    Comparative Negligence vs. Contributory Negligence

If more than one driver is at fault for a car accident, the outcome will vary from state to state. A few states still follow a fairly harsh “contributory negligence” system, but most have adopted “comparative negligence” rules. Let’s take a look at the difference between the two.

Contributory Negligence. Only a handful of states still subscribe to this system. Essentially, under the law of contributory negligence, if Driver A can show that Driver B’s negligence contributed to the accident to any degree. Driver B is barred from recovering anything at all in a lawsuit against Driver B.

Comparative Negligence. Comparative negligence allocates fault between drivers. A driver s liability may be reduced, but not necessarily eliminated, if the other driver is partly at fault for the accident. There are two variations of the comparative negligence system:

    • Pure comparative negligence: Liability is split according to the percentage of each driver’s fault. So, if Driver A is 30% to blame for a car accident, and she has $10,000 in damages, she can only collect $7,000 from Driver B (who was 70% to blame for the accident.)
    • Modified comparative negligence: Liability is split according to the percentage of fault — to a certain level. Once a plaintiff meets, or exceeds that level, the plaintiff is barred from recovery. That limit is typically 50%. In other words, if a plaintiff is more than 50% at fault for the accident, the plaintiff is barred from recovering anything at all from other at-fault drivers.

    Get the compensation you deserve.
