Should I Earn a Business Degree?

Business degree

A business degree is a type of academic degree awarded to students who have completed a college, university, or business school program with a focus on business, business administration, or business management.

There are five basic types of business degrees that can be earned from an academic program. They include:

Not everyone who works in the business field earns a business degree. However, it is easier to enter the field and climb the career ladder if you have earned college credits or taken business classes. In some cases, a degree may be required. For example, if you would like to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), you will need at least a bachelor s degree in most states. Some jobs, particularly leadership positions, require an MBA or another type of graduate business degree. If, on the other hand, you would like to work as an administrative assistant, bank teller, or bookkeeper, an associate s degree may be all you need to secure an entry-level position.

Choosing a Business Degree Program

Choosing a business degree program can be tricky–there are tons of different business programs to choose from. Business is one of the most popular college majors.

There are also a number of schools devoted entirely to business. You can earn your business degree online or from a campus-based program. Some schools offer either option–in most cases, the only difference is the learning format–courses and the resulting degree are the same.

When choosing a business degree program, it is important to consider accreditation.

An accredited program has been reviewed and deemed quality education. Accreditation is also extremely important if you hope to transfer credits, earn an advanced degree, or increase your chances of employment after graduation.

Other Business Education Options

A formal business degree program is not the only option for aspiring business students. There are a number of seminars and other training programs that can be taken. Some are available through colleges, universities, and business schools; others are offered by various business organizations and associations.

You may also be able to receive business training on the job or through an internship or vocational program. Other education options include diploma and certificate programs, which are available through many different technical and vocational schools.

Business Certifications

After earning a business degree, completing business training, or working in the business field, you can seek a business certifications. There are many different types of business certifications available. Most of them are professional certifications that relate to a specific position or area of business. For example, an experienced project manager could earn the Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute; a business manager could earn the Certified Manager designation from the Institute of Certified Management Professionals; and a small business owner can get a Small Business Certification for their business from the SBA.

Some business certifications are voluntary, others are considered mandatory under federal or state law.

What Can I Do with a Business Degree?

People who earn a marketing degree tend to work in marketing, while people who earn a human resources degree often seek work as a human resources specialist. But with a general business degree, you are not limited to one particular area of expertise. Business majors can hold many different positions in many different industries. A business degree could lead to a career in finance, marketing, public relations, management, sales, production–the list is almost endless. Your employment opportunities are limited only by your knowledge and experience. A few of the most common career paths for business degree holders include:

Bachelor of Business Administration Degree, business administration degree.#Business #administration #degree

Bachelor of Business Administration Degree

Business administration degree

A Bachelor of Business Administration degree is an undergraduate degree with a focus on business administration. Business administration is the most popular postsecondary major in the United States. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the greatest number of bachelor s degrees are conferred in the fields of business, which has twice as many students as social sciences and history, the second most popular undergraduate major.

Most bachelor s programs can be completed in four years if you study full-time. Part-time study will require an additional year or two depending on your course load. Accelerated programs that can be completed in as little as three years are also available. Some schools even offer a BBA/MBA dual degree option that allows you to consecutively earn a bachelor s and master s degree. Completion times vary by school, but most dual degree programs in business administration take approximately five years to finish. See an example of a BBA/MBA program.

What Will I Study in a Bachelor of Business Administration Program?

Business administration curriculum can vary from school to school. However, there are some things you can expect to study regardless of the program you enroll in.

Early courses typically involve a core curriculum, which provides a general foundation in business administration. You can also expect to take some general education courses (unless you earn college credits ahead of time through AP or CLEP exams.) The final two years of your education tend to involve more advanced study. You may also have the opportunity to take elective courses that focus on a specific area of business, such as management accounting, entrepreneurship, or supply chain management. Read more about elective courses and essential classes by specialization.

BBA Specialization Options

Although many people choose to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, specialization options may also be available depending on the school/program you choose. You could choose to specialize in advertising, accounting, management, human resources, global business, or a number of other concentrations. Read more about business specialization options.

Choosing a BBA Program

Because business administration is one of the most popular undergraduate degree options, most colleges, universities, and business schools offer this major. You can choose to earn your Bachelor of Business Administration degree online or on campus.

You will also find many hybrid programs that offer a combination of the two learning options.

When choosing a Bachelor of Business Administration program, your first consideration should be accreditation. Not every BBA program is accredited by the appropriate agency. Do your research to make sure the schools and programs you are short listing have the proper accreditation. Read more about how to check a program s accreditation.

What Can I Do with a Bachelor of Business Administration?

There are many different career options for a graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. With your education, you will be prepared to perform many of the functions central to the business administration field, including performance, management, and administrative functions. If you chose to specialize in a specific area of business administration, such as accounting, you would be well versed in areas of that specialized field and can seek positions that rely heavily on your knowledge. Should I Earn a Business Degree, business degree.#Business #degree

Weighing the Benefits of Getting a Music Business Degree, music business degree.#Music

Weighing the Benefits of Getting a Music Business Degree

    Music business degree

What about music business degree programs? Are they a good idea? Do they give you an edge? For starters, this question begs a bigger question, one that gets debated on this site all the time: Do you need a degree at all to work in the music business? My answer is sometimes, but not always — but for now, let s leave that question off the table and focus specifically on music business degree programs.

There are two ways to look at the value of getting a music business degree. In a broad sense, you can ask that question about many degrees. Compare, say, having a degree in marketing to having a degree in computer engineering. In today s job climate, that computer engineering degree is going to be a bigger boost when you re job hunting than your marketing degree.

There is a component of that that you have to consider when you re selecting your college major, be it music business, theater, or zoology. When you select a major, you have to carefully consider your post-college plans for education and employment. That certainly holds true for selecting a music business degree program.

    Getting Jobs and Internships

The other side of considering the value of a music business degree comes down to whether the degree will give you a competitive edge when you re looking for a job specifically in the music industry.

The answer? It depends. You have to weigh up music business degree programs very, very carefully to make sure they are offering you the right kinds of classes and experiences to give you a great education. Start by evaluating the course offerings.

Are they giving you music-business specific classes, or are you getting business classes with some music examples thrown in?

Are you getting classes that give you firm information to develop your knowledge of the music industry, or are the classes teaching things that are likely to be completely irrelevant by the time you graduate – for instance, classes on using a specific social media tool instead of classes on web-based marketing in general? Do the professors have real-world experience? That s really important.

The biggest factor to consider is the access to internships. Do not attend a school with a music business degree program that doesn t emphasize the importance of internships and that doesn t help to facilitate good (as opposed to bad) internship opportunities. Your music business internship can be one of the most important parts of your college career.

You have to be cautious about this; in general, internships offered through a reputable school are helpful. Some internships offered casually or online are little more than invitations to fetch coffee. Even supposedly reputable major music corporations have been sued for offering what the interns attorneys claim are useless internships.

Why does a good internship matter so much? The cold, hard reality is that, while education is important, experience counts just a little bit more in the music business.

Your music business degree will not give you a competitive edge over another job applicant if you do not have any experience.

In fact, many music companies would hire an applicant with experience who doesn t have a degree over an applicant with a degree and no experience. It is absolutely essential that internships – and any other experience you can get – are part of your college life.

    Assessing the Program s Value

A music business degree program that has great classes, good professors, and sets its students up with good internship opportunities can be a wonderful investment in your future working in the music business. If the program doesn t have those features, then the name of the degree becomes somewhat irrelevant. You may be better served by choosing another major and crafting your own music-related opportunities.

The bottom line about music and college is to evaluate the degree program closely and work as hard as you can to tap into the music opportunities on campus. In the end, you need the combination of education and experience – not one or the other – to do well in the music biz.

What Can I Do With a Business Administration Degree?

A business administration degree is like an all-access pass to a wide range of jobs in numerous professions, including jobs in both the public and private sector. Some of the fastest-growing job sectors include banking, finance, human resources, IT management and business analysis.

There are the fields of banking and finance, obviously, but employment also can be found in the areas of manufacturing, product development, human resources, IT management and business analysis.

These positions offer careers outside the normal purview of the business world as well, making a business administration degree attractive for students who are looking to work, for example, in government or with a non-profit.

The following list covers only a fraction of the positions available with a business administration degree. but it shows the diversity and range of careers open to degree holders.

    Business Administration Degree Job Options

    Accountants

Accountants are the number crunchers, the employees who handle a business’ financial records. Accountants also are responsible for ensuring that taxes are paid. This function makes them a bit like a business’ financial security personnel, since it’s the accountant’s job to keep the IRS at bay.

Accountants are needed wherever money is involved, in businesses from a corner store to a multinational corporation, but also in churches, hospitals, schools and non-profits.

Many accountants work for businesses or other organizations while others are independent, operating their own accounting businesses. Some specialize in tax preparations, meaning their workload increases greatly as April 15 nears.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), growth in the accounting field should be about 16%, or about average, for the period between 2010 and 2020. Average median pay for accountants in May 2010 was $61,690.

    Commercial Loan Officers

Commercial loan officers are a lending institution’s gatekeeper, making decisions about who gains or is denied access to the financial coffers. Loan officers evaluate applications for loans and either authorize or make recommendations as to whether a loan is approved.

Commercial loans involve sums of money and layers of complexity not found in consumer loans. Some loans, in fact, are so large that a single bank will not be able to supply the entire requested sum, meaning the loan officer will work with other financial institutions to gather the necessary funds.

Because loans are, essentially, a gamble, loan officers must have a great deal of human judgment as well as numbers skills.

The need for loan officers fluctuates with the economy – as confidence in the economy improves, lenders loose the grip on available funds. The BLS predicts growth in the commercial loan field to increase by about 14%, which is about average for all jobs surveyed between 2010 and 2020.

Average median salary for commercial loan officers in May 2010 was $56,490, according to the BLS.

    City Managers

A city manager serves as chief executive officer for a municipality. City managers typically are appointed by the city council. City managers are integral to the formulation of city budgets. They develop and implement city policy. They also hire and fire heads of various city departments.

Duties and job requirements vary from city to city.

Projected growth for all top executives between 2010 and 2020 is about 5%, below the average for all jobs surveyed. Average median annual income for city managers was $94,992 in May 2010.

Business Administration Salary and Job Outlook

Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 2016-17 Occupational Outlook Handbook

*The salary information listed is based on a national average, unless noted. Actual salaries may vary greatly based on specialization within the field, location, years of experience and a variety of other factors. National long-term projections of employment growth may not reflect local and/or short-term economic or job conditions, and do not guarantee actual job growth.

    What is my earning potential?

It is difficult to know what to expect from a business administration salary, as the discipline opens up many possible career paths, each with varying levels of supply and demand.

As with almost all careers, the higher degree you hold, the higher your salary: A bachelor s degree in business administration can add $2,000 to $5,000 or more per year in earning potential, while an MBA can add yet another $7,000 to $11,000, though many MBAs start out in higher-level management jobs with more responsibility, and consequently earn a larger salary that may include a bonus package.

Is there demand for this career?

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for business administrators is expected to grow about as fast as average for all occupations. However, job growth will vary by the area of business administration in which you choose to specialize.

What is the job growth for the field?

Take a look at how some of the business administration occupations compare as far as job growth:

    Job Outlook Comparison Through 2024

    • Sales Management—5 percent, slower than average
    • Finance Management—7 percent, as fast as average
    • Human Resources Management—9 percent, slightly faster than average
    • Food Service Management—5 percent, slower than average
    • Health Care Administration—17 percent, much faster than average
    • Marketing Management—9 percent, slightly faster than average

Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 2016-17 Occupational Outlook Handbook

How much competition will I face for a job?

The job market for those in business has become increasingly competitive, and what once worked for job-seekers now requires more education and credentials. For example, an MBA was once a near-guarantee for a great career in business administration. Employers are now seeking candidates with a DBA and certifications as business becomes more global and fast-paced. Technology plays a big factor in business, so the more knowledge and experience you have with computers and software, the better you may fare when it comes time to find a job.

What kinds of companies hire business administrators?

Here are the most common places where business administration professionals can be found according to the BLS:

    Sales Managers
    Management of Companies and Enterprises—31,720
    Car Dealers—25,000
    Wholesale Electronic Markets—15,890
    Computer Systems Design—12,200
    Department Stores—11,260

    Financial Managers
    Depository Credit Intermediation—79,020
    Management of Companies—65,830
Accounting, Tax Prep, Bookkeeping and Payroll Services—23,000
    Insurance Companies—18,870
    Local Government—18,850

    HR Management
    Management of Companies—18,200
    Local Government—7,790
    Hospitals—4,510
    Employment Services—4,390
    Computer Systems Design—3,470

    Marketing Management
    Management of Companies—33,330
    Computer Systems Design—10,870
    Management, Scientific and Technical Consulting—10,460
    Insurance Companies—5,600
    Advertising and Public Relations—4,590

How do I advance in my business administration career?

The ability to spot trends and patterns and to conduct business within a code of ethics would at one time have taken you far. But with the world becoming smaller thanks to technological advances, business administration is more complicated and complex than ever.

While you might be able to find an entry-level job—such as office administrator—with an associate s degree, you ll need to keep up with industry changes, and earn an advanced degree in order to climb the corporate ladder.

Earning at least an MBA could increase your career options and give you access to management and administrative roles, but earning a doctorate will open avenues in areas such as academia and research. If you want to be considered for that great promotion, you might want to think about one (or both) of these tips:

    • Learn a new language—business isn’t just confined to English-speaking countries. Places such as India and China are huge market opportunities.
    • Get computer savvy—take some IT and computer science classes, and learn the different software applications you’ll need to do your job better and faster.

Also, earning certification or licensure shows potential employers that you are a qualified and accomplished professional in your chosen career, and may play a role in employment decisions or promotions.

The 5 Best Online Business Degree Programs

The best online business degree programs provide a solid foundation in business principles and leadership techniques, preparing you for entry-level management positions at businesses of all kinds. Most programs offer students the chance to specialize in one of several business areas, including accounting, finance, or marketing, which is essential training for a managerial position within a business department. Although many online business degrees are designed specifically for students who have already completed an associate s degree, there are also options for those who want to complete all four years online. Whether you re looking to start a new business career or to advance in your current career, any of the best online business degree programs listed below should deliver the training you need to succeed.

Pennsylvania State University-World Campus is home to a four-year online business degree program designed to provide you with broad business training as well as specialized skills within a narrow area of focus. According to a recent survey of online bachelor s programs by. Pace University is home to the top-rated online bachelor s degree programs in the country.

Regent University offers a very good four-year business degree online, which includes both general business training and specialized courses in one of five focus areas. As a Regent student, you can choose to concentrate your studies in general management, accounting, human resources management, marketing, or hospitality management. Regent University s online business course list is extensive, enabling you to select courses that closely match your interests and career goals. As a Christian university, Regent emphasizes Biblical principles in all of its courses and requires students to complete at least five special courses in Biblical studies to satisfy general education requirements.

Last but certainly not least among the best online business degrees, Westfield State University s degree completion program enables you to focus your studies on the areas of management, marketing, or finance. In addition to these concentrations, all students take courses in general business topics, including finance, business law, international business, and management information systems. Westfield State University ranks among the most affordable online business degree programs in the country. Note that the program is specifically designed for students who have completed an associate s degree at a Massachusetts community college. Associate s degrees from other states are accepted, but, if you have one, it s important to contact an admissions adviser to make sure you meet all prerequisite requirements before settling on the program.

    Physical Therapist Education Requirements #phyiscal #therapy #education, #physical #therapist #education, #education #requirements,

    #

    Physical Therapist Education Requirements

Before physical therapists are permitted to practice, they first need to earn graduate degrees from programs which are academically accredited. Such programs lead to either a doctorate in physical therapy or a master s degree both of which usually require at least two to three years in order to be completed. To be admitted to a physical therapist education program, students have to earn a bachelor s degree as well as complete specific science courses which are considered prerequisites. They also need to acquire observation or volunteer experience in physical therapy. Their scores in the Graduate Record Examination must also be submitted and students need to maintain satisfactory grade-point averages.

    Education requirements

Students who are completing a physical therapist degree have to learn biomechanics, human anatomy, the management of neurological dysfunction and the pathology of the musculoskeletal system. They could also participate in hands-on clinical courses and internships all of which offer patient care training, assessment, screening and intervention.

    Responsibilities

Essentially, physical therapists evaluate, treat and diagnose patients who have disorders which limit their capacity to move or function through life in a normal way. Such a career is best for those who possess interpersonal skills and an impulse to help people who have physical limitations.

PTs also assist in patient rehabilitation. Patients include accident victims, individuals who have disabling conditions such as arthritis, low-back pain, heart disease, arthritis, head injuries, fractures as well as cerebral palsy. PTs also assist in restoring function, improve a person’s mobility, provide pain relief and limit or prevent physical disabilities. They also help maintain and restore overall health and fitness.

PTs also draw up a plan to assist patients to be relieved from their pain or allow their bodily functions to be restored. PTs assist patients to enjoy their well-being and lifestyle. Take note that this profession could be taxing as you get to be responsible for the overall health of your patients.

    Licensure

Physical therapists need to be state-licensed. Though every state has its physical therapist education requirements, a lot of them require that one possess physical therapy education graduate degrees and pass the NPTE or the National Physical Therapy Examination. A few states have added requirements such as jurisprudence exams as well as continuing education requirements.

Though being board-certified is actually voluntary for graduates of physical therapy, having a clinical specialty certification could open up numerous opportunities for career growth. The ABPTS or American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties provides physical therapists with board certification in eight areas of specialty including pulmonary, cardiovascular, geriatric and clinical electrophysiology. To be eligible, candidates must have completed a minimum of 2,000 clinical practical hours within their area of specialty. Candidates who pass a multiple-choice day-long exam are also given specialty certification. These certified specialists need to be re-certified after 10 years.

    Continuing education

However, PTs could easily engage in continuing education in order to remain current on physical therapy advancements even if they do not require CE to retain those licenses. The American Physical Therapy Association sponsors live classes, national conferences and online lessons.

    Undergraduate education

Prospective PTs have numerous options in areas at the undergraduate level. A student is free to enroll in a specific major which includes significant coursework in science such as physiology, anatomy, biology. Certain schools provide a pre-physical therapy major in their health departments.

    Graduate PT education

Undergraduate and Graduate programs are available from a variety of physical therapy schools across the country

PTs require a graduate degree. Fortunately, doctorates in physical therapy are in great supply. Similarly available are master’s programs in physical therapy. Such programs have different requirements prior to be admitted. A few of these include minimum grade point average standards or test scores. A lot of programs also require prerequisite course requirements.

A doctorate in physical therapy trains students in specific procedures of treatment and diagnosis. Coursework provides topics in PT procedures and anatomy. These also include exercise and therapeutic applications. A few programs also include assessment courses and integration thereby allowing students to apply what they learned via simulations. These programs also place students in clinical clerkships in certain healthcare facilities which are supervised by licensed physical therapists. Students could go through a practicum where they observe licensed PTs within a workplace setting. A few clerkships could be part-time while others offer advanced full-time clerkships.

Students might also take into consideration specific programs which are accredited by the CAPTE or Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education. Take note that this organization is actually recognized by the US Department of Education as well as the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.

    Employment

PTs held approximately 185,000 jobs in the United States back in 2008. A few physical therapists have held at least two jobs or more. Most of them work in offices of health practitioners or on hospitals. PTs often work in hospitals as well as care centers which are air-conditioned and clean. The average working hours is 40 each week. Depending on your area of specialty, you might also practice in fitness centers or sports facilities. Physical therapists also enjoy flexibility in their job options. You could even delve into research studies in your preferred university.

    Conclusion

All in all, if you want to be a physical therapist take note that acquiring a Bachelor’s Degree is not enough. It is highly recommended that you also take a related program such as anatomy, biology and chemistry as these serve as a pre-physical therapy training alternative program. A usual Bachelor’s Degree lasts four years. It is therefore advisable to acquire a working experience in the physical therapy department at a medical facility. The instance you are eligible, you can then apply for a Master’s in Phsyical Therapy. Usually, it is a three-year course which prepares you to be knowledgeable so you could pass the NPTE. You will also be studying advance subjects such as neuroscience, pharmacology, physiology and pathology. It depends on the state you select to practice in, you might be required to sit for added jurisprudence tests prior to being awarded a legitimate physical therapist license. A level of success is very much possible based on the specific areas of study focused on. The remaining factors are very much influenced by your skill in communicating with people as well as your personal character.

The traditional educational route to teaching at the kindergarten, elementary, middle, or secondary school levels is to earn a bachelor’s degree from an approved teacher education program. In addition, all would-be public school teachers must become licensed in their state before beginning employment.

    Degree Requirements

Every aspiring K-12 educator can enroll in a 4-year bachelor’s degree program in education to become a teacher. Individuals who are interested in teaching in middle or secondary school typically also major in the subject that they wish to eventually teach, such as music, mathematics, history, biology, or English. For example, an aspiring math teacher would take advanced math courses in addition to educational courses, such as implementing technology into a curriculum.

Prospective elementary school teachers often take a slightly different path in preparing for a career as a teacher. They can enroll in elementary or early childhood education degree programs that focus on foundations of education and educational psychology, while providing instruction in each of the various subjects taught in grades K-8.

    Program Coursework

Courses in a typical bachelor’s degree program in education include student assessment methods, instructional strategies, multiculturalism, and human development. Students complete class work that combines both individual assignments and group projects. Courses may also cover topics in educational technology and communication principles. Most bachelor’s degree programs in education also require students to complete some type of practical fieldwork, usually an internship, at a local school where they work directly under the supervision of a licensed teacher.

    Licensure Requirements

In order to work in a public school in the United States, would-be teachers must first obtain licensure. Although each of the 50 states has different requirements for obtaining a teacher’s license, most mandate the completion of a teacher education program such as a bachelor’s degree program in education and the passage of a state-administered exam. Supervised teaching experience, often gained through teaching internships, is also typically required. Once licensed, teachers may then be required to participate in periodic testing or continuing education courses in order to maintain their license and continue teaching in their state.

    Employment Outlook and Salary Information

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment opportunities for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school teachers should increase by 6% over the 2014-2024 decade. The BLS also reports average annual salaries for teachers ranged from $54,510 for kindergarten teachers to $57,200 for high school teachers in 2015. The average annual salary for middle school teachers was $58,760, and for elementary school teachers it was $57,730.

To become a teacher you need at least a bachelor’s degree in education or the subject you want to teach, and you must also meet any state licensing requirements.

The top 10 music colleges in the United States

High school seniors are used to stressing about college applications, essays, SAT scores and anything else related to the college application process. But for students who want to study music, those are just baby steps leading up to the big, scary, anxiety-filled audition day.

Years of practicing your craft will inevitably come down to about five minutes in front of a panel of judges.

One way to decrease this audition anxiety is to target colleges that fit your specific career goals. College Factual applied their rankings methodology to determine the top 10 music schools in the United States so if you are hoping for a career in music, consider these college options.

Editor’s Note: College Factual bases college rankings by major on a unique selection of characteristics, including the quality of the overall school, Focus Coefficient and the starting and mid-career salaries of graduates within the major, among other factors .

    1. Southern Methodist University

The high amount of financial aid afforded to undergraduates as well as the large number of students majoring in music earns this Dallas college the #1 spot. SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts focuses on fostering artists’ abilities as both musicians and community influencers within a concentrated environment. Georgia Sackler, a rising sophomore Voice Performance major with a minor in Musical Theatre, says the program’s small size affords her opportunities she wouldn’t have at other institutions. “What I’ve found most enriching about studying music in Meadows is the individual attention I receive…This is also a testament to the incomparable instructors with whom I have been fortunate enough to study,” says Sackler.

Of these 10 schools, Boston College boasts the highest starting salary for music graduates at $60,000 per year. BC allows students to double major in other fields if they so choose, or to use electives to gain more experience on stage. There are several active ensembles students can participate in through the music school as well, ranging from a cappella groups to an Irish fiddle, twiddle and dance ensemble.

    3. Princeton University

Since Princeton holds the #8 spot as the best overall college in the U.S. the University will give you a wonderful education regardless of your major. The music school offers a major in music as well as a certificate through the Program in Musical Performance, which is perfect for students who want to focus on another field of study outside of Princeton’s esteemed music school.

Yale comes in at the #4 best college overall as well as the #4 music school. With a student to teacher ratio of 6:1, students can expect to enjoy small classes created through an arranged partnership with the school’s undergraduate major and the graduate professional program. Studying here for your undergrad is a great way to potentially transition to Yale’s esteemed graduate school, which only admits about 200 students per year.

    5. Stanford University

This degree comes with a lofty price tag, but since Stanford provides students with enough financial aid to rank in the 20th percentile amongst all colleges in the U.S. you may not have to foot the entire bill. The music program focuses on the “Western, classical tradition,” however, students can choose a concentration in performance, conducting, composition or music history/theory.

    6. Cornell University

With three Pulitzer Prize winning graduates to its name, Cornell offers a competitive and distinguished music program (which should be enough to help you get past the weather conditions in the area.) The curriculum focuses not only on traditional music, but also on modern styles such as jazz and rock n’ roll. The Cornell Electroacoustic Music Center. opened in 2006, mirrors the school’s passion for experimental music, as it provides students with five studios and a 14-station teaching lab as well as several other recording spaces.

Brown offers undergraduates a Bachelor of Arts in music with three areas of concentration to choose from: a theory, history and composition track, an ethnomusicology track and a computer music and multimedia track. Eligible undergraduates are also given the opportunity to take on some graduate level courses.

Duke’s music program provides a comprehensive education in performance, theory, history and ethnomusicology. The undergraduate program exposes students to a wide-range of musical knowledge to prepare them for potential graduate work within a more concentrated field of study.

    9. Columbia University

Columbia University in The City of New York allows students to define their own music education with various schooling options, including a partnership with Juilliard in which students can participate in The Exchange or The Joint Program. The Exchange lets students take instruction at Juilliard, but disallows them from participating in ensembles or classes. The Joint Program, however, allows students to receive a B.A. from CU as well as an M.M. from Juilliard in only five years.

    10. College of William and Mary

William and Mary s music students study their art within the context of a broader liberal arts curriculum. The school offers a diverse set of classes, although the majority of its teachings are rooted in classical music. About 25% of William and Mary students are involved in the school of music at some point in any given semester, whether that’s through performing in an ensemble or taking a class as an elective. AIU degree programs are designed for professional adults. After evaluating both academic records and life experience, AIU staff working in conjunction with Faculty and Academic Advisors, establishes the student’s Academic Status. The student’s Academic Status defines the number of Credit Hours the student must complete to fulfill the academic guidelines of the institution.

The programs offered at AIU allow for limited Academic or Life-experience. Academic or Life-experience credit is knowledge gained outside of the classroom through work or other professional endeavors. The policy for accepting such credit is limited to one third of the credit requirement for the program and documentation must be provided to confirm such experience.

AIU is accredited by the Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges and Universities (ASIC). ASIC Accreditation is an internationally renowned quality standard for colleges and universities. ASIC is a member of CHEA International Quality Group (CIQG) in the USA and an approved accreditation body by the Ministerial Department of the Home Office in the UK. AIU is not accredited by an agency recognized by the US secretary of education. Read more.

Our founding principles are based on the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights; per article 26, AIU believes that Higher Education is a Human Right. The University has implemented a paradigm shifting educational model for its academic programs that have allowed it to move closer to this goal through the self-empowerment of its students, decentralization of the learning process, personalized open curriculum design, and a sustainable learning model.

Students and Faculty develop, produce and edit shows, documentaries and other media disseminated via AIUTV and AIU Radio. Creators have a profile page summarizing the show and themselves with a way for viewers to get in contact with them for further collaboration, networking, or other synergistic interactions.

Every hosted your own show? Have a mission or cause you would like to bring awareness to? Are you passionate about something? Any of these can be great topics to be featured on AIUTv per article 26. AIU believes that Higher Education is a Human Right. The University has implemented a paradigm shifting educational model for its academic programs that have allowed it to move closer to this goal through the self-empowerment of its students, decentralization of the learning process, personalized open curriculum design, a sustainable learning modern, developing the 11 core elements of the Human Condition within MYAIU, and the utilization of the quasi-infinite knowledge through the use of information technology combined with our own capacity to find solutions to all types of global issues, dynamic problems, and those of individuals and multidisciplinary teams. Due to these differentiations and the university’s mission, only a reputable accrediting agency with the vision and plasticity to integrate and adapt its processes around AIU’s proven and successful innovative programs could be selected. Unfortunately, the vast majority of accrediting agencies adhere to and follow obsolete processes and requirements that have outlived their usefulness and are in direct conflict with the university’s mission of offering a unique, dynamic, affordable, quality higher education to the non-traditional student (one who must work, study what he really needs for professional advancement, attend family issues, etc.).

We believe that adopting outdated requirements and processes would impose increased financial burdens on students while severely limiting their opportunities to earn their degree and advance in all aspects. Thus, in selecting the ASIC as its accrediting agency, AIU ensured that its unique programs would not be transformed into a “copy” or “clone” of those offered by the 10,000+ colleges and universities around the world. Since the ASIC is an international accrediting agency we are required, by Hawaii law RHS446E, to place the following disclaimer despite the worldwide recognition and acceptance of AIU’s accreditation. ATLANTIC INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY IS NOT ACCREDITED BY AN ACCREDITING AGENCY RECOGNIZED BY THE UNITED STATES SECRETARY OF EDUCATION. Note: In the United States and abroad, many licensing authorities require accredited degrees as the basis for eligibility for licensing. In some cases, accredited colleges may not accept for transfer courses and degrees completed at unaccredited colleges, and some employers may require an accredited degree as a basis for eligibility for employment. Potential students should consider how the above may affect their interests, AIU respects the unique rules and regulations of each country and does not seek to influence the respective authorities. Our students can be found in over 180 countries, they actively participate and volunteer in their communities as part of their academic program and have allocated thousands of service hours to diverse causes and initiatives. The degree programs offered by AIU follow internationally accepted standards followed by academic institutions around the world.

There is no distinction between the programs offered through AIU and those of traditional campus based programs with regards to the following: program structure, degree issued, transcript, and other graduation documents which follow the same standards used by US colleges and universities. AIU graduation documents can include an apostille and authentication from the US Department of State to facilitate their use internationally. Types of Nursing Degrees

    Updated June 27, 2017

Just as there are many different types of nurses. there are also many different types of nursing degrees. If you want to become a nurse, you need to determine which nursing degree is required for the nurse career you want. Learn more about the types of nursing degrees available and where to obtain the degree you need for your future nursing career.

Taken in a large group, nurses can best be categorized according to their industry licensure and any further specialized credentials.

These categories often denote a particular degree level attained, type of work environment, and even salary range.

Associate s Degree in Nursing (ADN)

An associate s degree in nursing is a two-year degree that is obtained from a community college or vocational school. An associate s degree is the minimum requirement to become a registered nurse; however, be advised that many employers are requiring a bachelor s degree for many RN nursing roles.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

A bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) is required for many, but not all, nursing careers. A BSN, like most bachelor s degrees, is typically a four-year degree from a university or college. Like most other nursing degrees, a bachelor of science in nursing combines classroom learning with hands-on training called clinicals which allow students to obtain first-hand experience working with patients in a clinical setting.

A BSN should be obtained from an accredited nursing program.

Master s of Science in Nursing (MSN) Degree

You must have a bachelor s degree in nursing or related field in order to obtain your MSN unless you opt for one of the combined bachelor s/master s programs. A master s degree in nursing is required to become an advanced practice nurse (APN or APRN).

Advanced practice nurses have more clinical authority and autonomy, and typically earn more than regular registered nurses. Some master s nursing programs may have a special focus or track for certain medical specialties or types of nursing, such as a focus on forensic nursing or a clinical nurse specialist track.

A specialized master s degree is also required to become a mid-level provider, such as a nurse practitioner (NP) or certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). Master s degrees are typically one to two years of additional coursework that you can obtain while employed as a nurse. Sometimes your employer will help pay for your master s degree in nursing if you commit to working for a number of years into the future. An MSN must also be completed from an accredited nursing program.

    Doctorate Degrees in Nursing

The highest degree one can earn in nursing is a doctorate level degree. You must first have a bachelor s and then a master s degree before completing the doctorate degree in nursing and becoming what some refer to as Doctor Nurse.

There are two types of doctorates in nursing: a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) which focuses on the clinical aspects of nursing and a Doctor of Nursing Science (DNSc, also a DSN or DNS).

The latter is the more common choice for those who wish to be professors at nursing programs or researchers.
