Business development plan, business development plan.#Business #development #plan

Business

Businesses can do much to prepare for the impact of the many hazards they face in today’s world including natural hazards like floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and widespread serious illness such as the H1N1 flu virus pandemic. Human-caused hazards include accidents, acts of violence by people and acts of terrorism. Examples of technology-related hazards are the failure or malfunction of systems, equipment or software.

Ready Business will assist businesses in developing a preparedness program by providing tools to create a plan that addresses the impact of many hazards. This website and its tools utilize an “all hazards approach” and follows the program elements within National Fire Protection Association 1600, Standard on Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Continuity Programs. NFPA 1600 is an American National Standard and has been adopted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The five steps in developing a preparedness program are Program Management, Planning, Implementation, Testing and Exercises, and Program Improvement. Find out more about the five steps below.

Program Management

  • Organize, develop and administer your preparedness program
  • Identify regulations that establish minimum requirements for your program

Find more information on Program Management here.

Planning

  • Gather information about hazards and assess risks
  • Conduct a business impact analysis (BIA)
  • Examine ways to prevent hazards and reduce risks

Find more information on Planning here.

Implementation

Write a preparedness plan addressing:

  • Resource management
  • Emergency response
  • Crisis communications
  • Business continuity
  • Information technology
  • Employee assistance
  • Incident management
  • Training

Find more information on Implemenation here.

Testing and Exercises

  • Test and evaluate your plan
  • Define different types of exercises
  • Learn how to conduct exercises
  • Use exercise results to evaluate the effectiveness of the plan

Find more information on Testing and Exercises here.

Program Improvement

  • Identify when the preparedness program needs to be reviewed
  • Discover methods to evaluate the preparedness program
  • Utilize the review to make necessary changes and plan improvements

Business Development – What does it mean? Who is it for?

Is it the same for everyone?

Having now worked in a number of roles that you might consider as business development (BD), I thought I’d start my publishing journey on LinkedIn (this is my first post) with a bit of reflection.

I often get asked what the difference between straight selling and BD is, so I thought I’d try and define the differences (for my own sake, if nothing more!).

To some degree, they’re different sides of the same coin.

Selling and BD go hand in hand.

I’ve been in roles where I’ve been strictly selling, others where there is a combination of sales and BD, and also in roles that I would consider true and pure BD.

In all, however, I’ve had some link to what would be considered BD within that particular business.

So the answer to the header title is no, I think; BD is different for everyone and every business, dependent on a number of factors – budget, size of workforce, attitude to BD, etc.

What is ‘true and pure’ BD?

The sales process is one that involves a lot of people – product development, designers, pricing, marketing, technical, management – ‘front-line’ salesmen and ‘top-end’ management need to combine forces to deliver a product that their customers want.

If you walk into a shop to buy a pair of trainers, for example, this has been designed from the early stages by trained footwear designers, manufactured from these designs in a production process of sorts (industrial or bespoke, depending on the brand), marketed in the appropriate manner to raise awareness of the product, eventually landing on the shelves of the shop you’re in, with a friendly guy/gal willing to help you transact some business when you make the decision to buy them.

So where does BD fit into this process? What’s it all about then?

I think the foremost word that comes up in the BD world is ‘relationships’.

That’s pretty much what it’s all about.

Good business development will help identify, maintain and encourage relationship building within a firm, building rapport with both suppliers and customers.

It helps strengthen the bonds between these links, supporting the marketing copy and material that establishes your product in the relevant marketplace.

It helps provide information as to what the client needs to the ‘front line’ sales team, assisting them in closing the deal at the end of the process.

It helps inform management as to how the market is moving, providing insights into new developments of technology, social media and other digital avenues that the firm can take advantage of, to build and maintain loyalty.

It helps small companies access bigger markets and large companies engage newcomers.

So my definition of ‘true and pure’ BD is ‘helping a business to develop its relationships’.

    Plain and simple.

It’s networking on a daily basis; attending cutting-edge events to learn about the industry you’re working in; finding (er. stalking?) people on LinkedIn to see what events they’re attending and making sure you meet them there, in person, so that you can have that all important introductory chat; it’s offering your loyal customers something more than a newsletter – why not run a seminar and invite them along to it? They might be happy to be invited.

The personal touch is always a winner.

We hear more and more now about relationships marketing, social currency, engagement, etc.

BD is the platform that most of this is built on.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve worked in roles that have been classed as BD but have really been sales. I’ve worked in hybrid roles where you might do a bit of both. And I’ve worked in the ‘true and pure’ BD roles to.

What this has shown me is that BD has a place in every business. You can’t ‘develop’ your business without a good BD strategy.

So whether you’re encouraging your front-line staff to sign up to a few newsletters, or get yourself down to a few networking events, or join a LinkedIn group and start up a discussion, BD is something that can’t be overlooked.

It’s all very well to have a great product and a nicely designed website, with some great leaflets and a slick business card but, without the right approach to BD, no one is going to see it in the way you want to.

Having worked as a supplier to a lot of startups and growing SMEs, the one thing that I’ve noticed which has set apart the successes from the failures is their approach to BD.

Develop the relationships – build a community around your business and your product just needs to do what it says on the tin. The rest will fall into place and you’ll have a strong, loyal customer base who are happy to sing your praises.

For that reason alone, if nothing else, BD is essential for pretty much any business going.

That’s my opinion anyway, although I may be a bit bias, of course.

So you want to be a business development manager?

Business development managers are the cornerstone of any successful organisation because they ultimately generate new revenue and help a company grow. But what does the job involve on a day-to-day basis? We explore in more detail.

    What are the main responsibilities?

The primary objective is to identify new business opportunities. What form this takes will depend on the exact nature of the company. But you ll more than likely be looking to identify new markets, new partnerships, new ways to reach existing markets, or new product or service offerings to better meet the needs of existing markets. And then you ll be expected use these opportunities to bring in more revenue.

How that happens exactly depends on the industry. It can be a combination of attending events and networking, taking stands at exhibitions and conferences, cold calling, and responding to incoming leads. You will also more than likely be expected to identify partner opportunities to cross and up sell services.

What will I be doing on a day-to-day basis?

While it can be difficult to generalise, most business development managers will be expected to:

    • Generate leads and cold calling prospective customers
    • Develop opportunities in target markets with support of marketing
    • Nurturing and developing relationships with key customer accounts
    • Attending face-to-face meetings with clients
    • Providing specialist advice on the products and/or services you re selling

What are the other aspects involved in the job?

You ll more than likely be looking to identify new markets, new partnerships, new ways to reach existing markets, or new product or service offerings to better meet the needs of existing markets.

You ll need to negotiate pricing with clients in line with internal guidelines. You ll also need to keep your superiors updated on both your progress and timeline, providing them with accurate forecasting of anticipated sales.

This being a sales role, you will be subject to sales and KPI targets; this is a crucial part of the role. With face-to-face client meetings key, you ll be expected to travel although the extent to which this is the case will depend on where the job is based. If you re based in London, you may find that the majority of your meetings are in the capital. But if your employer is based elsewhere in the South-East, Midlands or the North, you may be required to travel a substantial amount.

How much can I expect to earn?

Our Salary Survey shows that salaries vary depending on sector and location. For example, an IT business development manager can expect to earn 50 70k in the North of the UK and 50 75k in the South-East. Similarly, a B2B business development manager can expect to earn 30 45k in the North and 35 50k in London and the South-East. But all these figures are basic salary exclusive of benefits/bonuses. Actual earning potential will be far higher than this.

What knowledge and experience is required?

To secure a business development manager job, you ll need a strong sales track record. Specifically, hiring companies look for a proven ability to hit targets, a consistent background of winning new business and often relevant sector experience. A good book of contacts is also looked upon favourably.

In terms of personality traits, employers generally look for people who are articulate, polished and professional who have a good telephone manner. A self-motivated and disciplined approach is essential.

You are here: Home Business Development Strategies

There are a variety of different strategies one can use when developing business. It is important to understand the strategies a business development manager has used in the past before you bring them into your firm. Their approach may differ from what your company expects from its business developers. I’m going to cover of few of the most common approaches, but each business developer may have his/her own unique approach that incorporates portions of the following strategies:

    The Expert/Inbound Strategy

This business development strategy is used more by doer-sellers and may not be appropriate for a full-time business development manager

The Expert/Inbound Strategy tries to set the business development manager as an expert in the company or client’s field. One example might be the engineer who creates the perception that he/she is in expert in energy savings for office buildings. This business development manager ‘s company designs energy retrofits for office buildings. Therefore, he/she is targeting real estate developers who may want to increase their building’s energy efficiency.

The business development manager writes articles and books, blogs, speaks at conferences, and participates in relevant industry associations with the hope that people will perceive him/her as the expert in the field.

As mentioned, this is an inbound strategy because the business development manager’s approach is passive. They put themselves out there and wait for people to reach out to them.

While, at first, it may seem like a dumb business development strategy. It’s been historically very effective, particularly when conducted by doer-sellers. Many businesses start out and have grown successful using this strategy.

    The Client List Strategy

Another business development strategy centers around client lists. For example, let’s say you are targeting large general construction contractors in Tennessee. You can research, create, or even buy that list. From there, you can cold call or network your way to the decision makers within the organization. You can even use email marketing as a way to track clicks and uncover who might be receptive to talking with you. Assuming you have the right list, this can be a very effective strategy.

    The Network Strategy

The networking strategy is not nearly as targeted. Business development managers using this approach often attend many industry events, lunches, etc. Their goal is to use their network to identify and connect with potential clients. Many business development managers use this approach because it’s less stressful than the Client List Strategy.

It has its advantages and disadvantages. Its advantage is you may identify a potential client that wouldn’t have appeared on a client list. The disadvantage is this strategy can take a long time, is not as targeted, and relies on the quality of the business developer’s network (and his/her ability to leverage that network).

How do you define business development? #best #business #loans

    #business development

    #

Business development can be many things. It really depends on company. In my mind, however, the role of business development is to find new strategic opportunities for the company and start the company on the path to execute (incubation). It is not uncommon for business developers to have a combination of strategy, marketing sales, finance, legal, and operations background.

Based on my experience in business development, here s the flavors I ve run into (roughly from more to less common):

    • Partnership development
    • Strategic market development and sales
    • Strategic marketing
    • Mergers, acquisitions, and financing
    • New business line exploration
    • Channel sales
    • New product development

Edit added: More on how others perceive, define, and question the topic of business development here at http://steveshuconsulting .com/20.

    Business Development Business Plan

    Executive Summary

We are currently in a highly lucrative market in a rapidly growing economy. The current trend towards an increase in the number of entrepreneurs and competition amongst existing companies presents an opportunity for an increased demand for market information and services that will enable companies to stay ahead of the pack.

Our services will be positioned very carefully: they will be of extremely high quality, relevant, timely and accurate, tailored to the clients’ needs so as to enable them to make the right decisions, in turn leading towards growth of their companies, benefiting the overall economy.

Palms and Bonds offers the expertise that a proactive-oriented and market-opportunity seeking company needs to develop and enter new product distribution and new market segments in new markets. We intend to provide a number of necessary services to the business community and to the public. These can be summed up in two main divisions — Business and Training Services. Our business services can be taken as marketing research, market research reports, project-based consulting, business and marketing plans, plan consulting and writing, high-level retainer consulting and company registration. Our training services include workshops and seminars on such topics as sales and marketing, as well as in-house training of receptionists, secretaries, and sales and marketing personnel.

Our marketing strategy will be based mainly on ensuring that customers know what needs the services are able to fulfill, and making the right information available to the right target customer. We intend to implement a market penetration strategy that will ensure that we are well known and respected in our respective industry. We will ensure that our services’ prices take into consideration people’s budgets, and that these people appreciate the services, know that it exists, and where to find it. The marketing will convey the sense of quality in every picture, every promotion, and every publication. Our promotional strategy will involve integrating advertising, events, personal selling, public relations, direct marketing and Internet marketing, details of which are provided in the marketing section of this plan.

Our target markets will range from persons in the corporate towers, small or medium businesses, to home institutions needing information on their particular area of concern. The common bond will be the appreciation of the importance of quality information that will enable correct decisions to be made, holding all things equal. Palms and Bonds prides itself on its analytical ability, its value-added service, competitive fees, its high standards of quality and its adaptability to changes in the market and in the method of its practice.

Palms and Bonds intends to provide the client with more than just information and planning tools. We intend to provide quality information that is customized to the client’s needs, in the process assisting them on how best to use the available information. By employing our services, our clients are assured of consultants dedicated to finding the right answers for their business and enabling them to benefit long after we have finished our work. We are in this line of work because we like efficiency and because we understand and believe in problem solving and market/marketing research.

As we grow we want to grow right. For example we recognize that we have to be in constant touch with our stakeholders to ensure market knowledge at all times. This is the nature of the channels we deal with. Also, we intend to build our management team correctly. We need the right people in the right place at the right time if we are to ensure optimum growth. We intend to develop our team so that our people can grow as the company grows — a mutually beneficial relationship.

In a nutshell, we don’t just intend to market and sell our service, but to market and sell customized information, solutions and a total-quality environment. This will ensure we establish a reputable corporate image.

    1.1 Objectives

Our business strategy will revolve around the need to provide quality information to our various target clients/customers, in the process fully satisfying their needs. This shall be undertaken through recruitment of a professional marketing research and business consultancy team and the production of good quality reports designed to cater to the client’s needs. These reports/proposals shall be professionally done so as to be reflective of our intended image and reputation. We shall position ourselves as a quality service provider that strives to provide accuracy, relevancy and specific information. We intend to establish a good rapport with all the relevant government agencies and private institutions that may in turn refer us to aspiring entrepreneurs.

With time our presence on the World Wide Web will increase the knowledge of our services to the various market segments we shall be targeting. This is particularly so with foreign firms looking at establishing themselves in Botswana, hence providing them easy access to local information. In such a case Web presence is a natural objective in reaching the appropriate potential customers. We also intend to have brochures that will enable clients to have an understanding of the types of services we offer and advantages of doing so. In addition to well-done brochures, company profiles and business cards often have a triggering effect on clients contemplating investing in Botswana. These will undoubtedly generate increased sales of our products.

    1.2 Keys to Success

The keys to Palms and Bonds success will undoubtedly be effective market segmentation through identification of several niche markets and implementation strategies. Along these lines the company intends to implement personal selling and direct marketing strategies to the target markets. Our personal selling marketing strategies will rotate around keeping in touch with investment and finance bodies for major clients and word-of-mouth for more individual investors. our key success factors will include the following:

    1. Excellence in fulfilling the promise: completely confidential, reliable, trustworthy expertise and information. This dictates that we have the latest technology and software.
    2. Uncompromising commitment to the quality of the work: that is, quality data, information and solutions.
    3. Developing visibility to generate new business leads.
    4. Leveraging from a single pool of expertise into multiple revenue generation opportunities: retainer consulting, project consulting, market research, and market research published reports.
    5. Successful niche marketing: we intend to find and target the quality-conscious customer in the right channels, making sure that the customer will find us through aggressive marketing.
    6. Timeous response to clients orders: we cannot afford to delay the client’s order for whatever reason as this will have a negative bearing on our image and reputation, including future business. We need to be continually communicating with the client.
    7. Marketing know-how: in an increasingly competitive market there is need to aggressively market our business and the services we provide so as to be continuously at the top of our prospective and current clients minds.
    8. Entrepreneurial Flair: market volatility and increasing duplication of business ideas advocates that we continuously keep abreast of new trends and our competitors.

    1.3 Mission

Palms and Bonds offers clients reliable, quality information and proposals for business development, market development, and channel development that will maximize business development. A true alternative to in-house resources we offer a very high level of practical experience, know-how, contacts, and confidentiality. At Palms and Bonds we are able to provide comprehensive solutions to our clients’ problems that will foster business development. Clients must know that working with Palms and Bonds is a more professional, less risky way to develop new areas even than working completely in-house with their own people. Palms and Bonds must also be able to maintain financial balance, charging a competitive and realistic value for its services, and delivering an even higher value to its clients. Initial focus will be development of the local market clientele.

    Our mission statement is:
“We endeavor to understand our customers’ business so well as to be able to offer comprehensive solutions to their problems.”

    The Old Client

Xamarin Live Player (almost) takes the Mac out of iOS development #ios

    #

Xamarin Live Player (almost) takes the Mac out of iOS development

Enlarge / The Retina 5K iMac just got a bit cheaper.

SEATTLE—With the Xamarin tooling built in to Visual Studio, iOS and Android developers can already use a PC for a big part of their dev process by using the Visual Studio IDE for writing their code. For iOS development, however, there has always been an extra complication: the actual software building and deployment had to take place on a Mac. Visual Studio remotely controls the Apple machine to do this work, so although developers can stay inside the Visual Studio environment they know and love, they still need a Mac on their local network.

Xamarin Live Player, announced today, takes the Mac out of the develop/deploy/debug cycle. With Live Player, iOS apps can be deployed directly onto an iPhone or other iDevice from a PC running Visual Studio, where the code can then be tested and debugged. This means that the Mac is no longer needed for that core development cycle.

The final build and submission to the App Store will still require a Mac, so you can’t go without an Apple system entirely, but what this means is that if you want to develop, as many of us do, on a laptop and aren’t on the same network as your Mac, you can.

Live Player also supports Android, though this is obviously less of a big deal since direct development and deployment from a PC is already standard for Android.

Microsoft believes its Live Player system is entirely compatible with Apple’s rules and regulations for App Store apps. Behind the scenes, the Live Player includes an interpreter for .NET code. This means that running an app through Live Player is slower than it would be if natively built on a Mac, but that’s not such a big deal for many aspects of user interface development.

For those of us who are Mac users anyway, yesterday saw the release of Visual Studio for Mac. Visual Studio for Mac is a different codebase from Visual Studio on Windows, but the two products share things like the compiler and build infrastructure, enabling projects to be shared and co-developed between Mac and PC with no conversion or other hurdles to contend with.

Microsoft is also working to better align the various versions of .NET and the XAML user interface development language across its platforms. Later this year, the UWP version of .NET will be updated to support .NET Standard 2.0. Microsoft is also unifying the XAML used for cross-platform Xamarin Forms with that used for UWP. The new XAML, XAML Standard, will allow XAML to be shared (and copy/pasted, the best kind of code reuse) between UWP and Xamarin Forms apps.

Finally, Microsoft is continuing to embrace Linux developers and toolchains on Windows. The current Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) comes out of the box with support for Ubuntu; later this year, Microsoft is adding official support for a SUSE userland and a Fedora userland. It’ll even be possible to install all three side by side, giving your Windows machine three different Linux personalities simultaneously. The installation of WSL is also simpler, with the three Linux environments all being installed from the Windows Store.

Great App for minimizing repeated Contacts

I use I-cloud to back up my Apple mobile devices. Within my mobile devices I run and use a Outlook via from 1 of 2 Microsoft Accounts. In addition I have office 365 Business Premium and use Exchange for Microsoft using the same Outlook app. All my email accounts have its own contact list, that all backs up to I-Cloud. This causes contacts to have multiple contacts show up. This App merges mutable contacts to creat 1 completed contact. So a contact that repeated with it just having a phone number, email, location address all combines into one complete contact. So far it works great, I’m using the Free Version to get better understanding of the setting and what other things this app will do before upgrading to the paid Version.

    Easy Backup

I’ve used this app for five months now and have never had an issue. I was immediately impressed by the speed, accuracy and ability to re-assimilate my contact data fully intact once I needed to. There wasn’t any unnecessary removal of duplicates and all contact data was represented neatly and orderly.
I’ve just downloaded an apparent newer version of Easy Backup and I’m again impressed by its speed and how quickly my contacts are assessed and packaged, ready for SMS, email, etc. Redistribution of my contacts were equally as organized. It’s a nice app!

    Exactly what I needed

I don’t have a Mac, so I needed a system to sync my contacts to something, without doing it manually. My contacts do not automatically sync to my computer since I don’t have a Mac, and although they used to sync to Outlook, they stopped once I got the iPhone 7. This app was exactly what I need, is easy to use, and the information is all in one file whenever you need it. Highly recommend!

This app is designed for both iPhone and iPad

    Nurse Preceptor: A Vital Role

As a registered nurse (RN), if you haven’t been asked to be a preceptor, chances are you soon will be. More than half of new graduate nurses start their careers in a hospital setting, and more preceptors are needed to bridge the gap between nursing school and the hospital.

Nurse preceptors are vital to the success of health care organizations, and studies have linked effective preceptors with reduced nurse turnover and increased patient safety. As a result, health care organizations are increasingly requiring RNs to serve as preceptors for new nursing staff by tying the role to career advancement and raises.

    Nurse preceptor definition

A preceptor by definition is a teacher or instructor, but the role of a nurse preceptor goes beyond that traditional definition. The nurse preceptor serves the dual role of practitioner and educator.

The responsibility of precepting falls in between teaching and mentoring. “Like mentoring, it is a one-to-one relationship. Even if a person precepts more than one student, each relationship tends to be handled in a one-to-one manner,” says Barbara Stevens Barnum, author of “The Role of the Preceptor: A Guide for Nurse Educators.” In addition to being a teacher and a mentor, a preceptor also serves as a role model, leader, influencer, evaluator, socialization agent and protector to the apprentice nurse.

The preceptor is instrumental for a student nurse to successfully link nursing theory to application in a clinical setting, according to researchers at the University of Calgary. The preceptor and student nurse work together as one unit, with the nurse carefully observing the preceptor in action and performing tasks under the preceptor’s watchful eye.

    Nurse preceptor characteristics

Nurses who are asked to be preceptors are typically experienced RNs who are enthusiastic about the nursing profession and have a desire to teach. The preceptor should have a BSN degree at minimum, and preferably a master’s or higher degree in nursing .

Good candidates for preceptors are unit-based nurse managers, nursing department heads, nursing education department personnel and advanced practice nurses, according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).

However, not all nurses have the ability or the desire to be preceptors. While skill, knowledge and experience are important, the best preceptors are effective communicators who know how to help student nurses transfer knowledge into bedside application.

In addition to having a desire to teach others, a preceptor should have the following characteristics:

    • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
    • Teaching skills
    • Sensitivity to the learning needs of student nurses
    • Leadership skills
    • Decision-making and problem-solving skills
    • Positive professional attitude
    • Ability to provide feedback effectively

    Nurse preceptor job description

The overall goal of a preceptorship is to ensure the novice nurse applies classroom learning in a clinical setting. There are a variety of ways that preceptors can help to facilitate this learning transfer, including:

    • Demonstrating nursing actions
    • Talking through actions to illustrate the preceptor’s thinking process
    • Role-modeling professional interactions
    • Designing learning experiences and patient care assignments
    • Assessing the student’s readiness for assignments
    • Giving feedback on performance

    An effective preceptor should:

    • Communicate clear expectations
    • Connect information to broader concepts
    • Answer questions clearly
    • Explain the basis for actions and decisions
    • Give appropriate responsibility to the novice nurse
    • Be open to conflicting opinions

    Nurse preceptor training

Most nurse preceptors are skilled clinicians who have never been in a training role. In order to be effective, they need to understand the learning process and learn how to effectively give feedback.

Preceptor training helps to dispel fears that an experienced nurse may have in training novice nurses. The programs teach concepts such as creating an optimal learning environment, conflict resolution, communication skills and teamwork. Training enhances the precept experience and helps prevent burnout.

Pros and cons of being a nurse preceptor

There are advantages and disadvantages to taking on the preceptor role. Here are some factors to consider before taking on the added responsibility:

    Pros

    • New nurses and nursing students bring a fresh perspective and enthusiasm to the workplace.
    • The precept experience gives both preceptor and student a chance to learn new skills.

    Cons

    • Preceptors may find these extra duties overwhelming.
    • Some preceptors may be apprehensive about taking on the role, without sufficient training.

Although nurse precepting is not for everyone, those who do take on this important role are rewarded with the feeling of accomplishment, knowing they’ve helped launch many nurses’ careers. Veteran nurses also find their career reinvigorated by taking on the assignment.
