15 Online Business Ideas You Can Start Tomorrow, business list.#Business #list

15 Online Business Ideas You Can Start Tomorrow

When you dream of opening your own business, you might envision four white walls and a mess of boxes to unpack in a commercial space. However, it doesn t have to be this way. With today s technology, you can start and run a business online, often with little to no cost.

By focusing on your strengths, you ll be able to build a client roster and get your online-based business started. Here are 15 great ideas you can run with.

1. SEO consultant

Do you know the ins and outs of search engines and have skills in platforms like Google Analytics? The owners of a lot of smaller companies don t realize how much of an impact search engine optimization (SEO) can have on their business. Educate those business owners on the power of SEO to help transform their websites into a more SEO-friendly property. Use your skills to show business owners how to read and use their analytics data the right way, and how to properly use keywords and structure content to get more traffic.

2. Business coaching

If you possess a great deal of business experience and knowledge, why not create a business that helps aspiring entrepreneurs find success? You can use your skills to help new business owners get off to a good start and help experienced entrepreneurs keep up with demand. To show off your knowledge and skills and bring in clients, you can also write articles about business on platforms like LinkedIn.

3. Specialized retailer

There s an audience for everything, whether it s making dollhouse furniture or creating organic dog food. With a specialty e-commerce store, you can reach those customers who are seeking your specific products. All you need is a web-hosting service with an integrated shopping cart feature or with e-commerce software, and your business will be operational in no time. You can even work with vendors to ship products to customers on your behalf, which means you don t need to own a lot of inventory. [See Related Story: A Small Business Guide to E-Commerce Shipping]

4. Social media consultant

Larger companies can hire an agency or full-time staff member to run their Facebook and Twitter accounts, but small businesses often have to handle their own social media marketing. With so many responsibilities, business owners are often too busy, overwhelmed or undereducated about the importance of social media to spend time developing and implementing a great social media strategy. As a consultant, you can help them determine the best tactics, posting schedules and content for their target audience. As their follower count grows, so will your business.

5. Web design

There s nothing more off-putting than a poorly designed website, and often, it kills credibility. If you know HTML and have a good eye for design, you can launch a service to create attractive, easy-to-use websites for small businesses. Put your skills to good use for business owners who want to take their online presence to the next level. Build a comprehensive portfolio, and then create your own website to show it off and attract a steady stream of clients.

6. Resume/cover letter writing

It s a tough truth to swallow, but a standout resume and cover letter can make all the difference when you re applying for a job. While listing career accomplishments might seem like an easy task, the fine art of humble bragging eludes some of us. Find work by helping others to get hired with the aid of stellar resumes. Capitalize on the increasingly important social media branding bandwagon and offer to fix LinkedIn profiles as well.

7. Assistant/task manager

Do you have impeccable organizational skills? What about cleaning skills? Can you quickly and efficiently carry out these tasks? Maybe it s time to put those skills to good use by becoming an online personal assistant or task manager. Companies like TaskRabbit or Zirtual allow you to sign up for tasks you want to complete including data research, virtual assistant or running errands and begin building clientele.

8. Professional freelancer

You might not think of freelancing as a business, but with more and more companies turning to part-time contract workers to fill their skill gaps, it s not hard to imagine making a living providing businesses with a variety of freelance services. Depending on your skill sets, you could work for multiple companies in a variety of fields that offer you flexibility and a refreshing change of pace. According to the freelance job listing website Freelancer.com, tech services, content creation and web design are popular fields for contract work.

9. Affiliate marketing

If you re a person who loves leaving customer reviews on sites like Amazon, stop doing it for free. Word-of-mouth advertising is still a huge lead generator for many companies, and a lot of businesses are willing to share a portion of their profits with persuasive individuals who will promote their products to the public. If you have a personal website with a large following, this might be easier to accomplish (PR reps are always seeking out brand advocates they can send free samples to). Smart Passive Income breaks down three types of affiliate marketing and explains which one is most profitable.

10. Remote technical support

Many small businesses don t have room in their budget for a full-time IT employee, so when their systems go on the fritz, they ll usually call a computer-savvy friend or family member. If you have experience working on computers and networks, you can eliminate their need to call in a favor and offer immediate remote technical assistance.

Real-Life Success Story: Jamie Minter

11. Virtual consignment store

Bargain hunters and thrift store enthusiasts can turn a nice profit reselling their vintage clothing finds. Brand yourself by setting up an independent website as your virtual storefront, but use a managed service like Google Checkout to handle transactions. High-resolution images and catchy copy for your products will make you stand out in the sea of internet users trying to sell their used items.

12. Handmade craft seller

Online sites like Etsy and ArtFire are platforms that make it extremely easy for crafters who can produce a steady supply of quality handmade items, like crocheted blankets or unique painted glassware. Startup costs are extremely low if you purchase your materials in bulk from a craft supplier, and if you can turn around orders quickly, you ll be making a profit in no time at all. It s even possible to turn your store into a full-time gig.

13. App development

Mobile applications are more popular than ever, and people are willing to pay good money for ways to manage their lives from their smartphones. If you have a great idea and happen to know coding, you can run with it and create your app yourself. If you just have an idea and don t know the ins and outs of how to turn it into a reality, there are plenty of software developers looking to collaborate with people on app creation.

If you have ideas and words bursting within you, you ve most likely thought about starting a blog, at the very least. With the freedom to create your own beat and style your platform the way you desire, you can completely personalize your blogging experience and reach millions of people across the world. The larger the audience, the higher the chance you have at creating a successful business out of it. [See Related Story: How to Turn Your Blog into a Business]

The wedding industry is booming, and with all of the stress and pressure that piles on every couple during their engagement, it s nearly impossible for brides-to-be to enjoy their wedding planning. However, if you have a knack for organization and a passion for weddings, you can start your own career as a bridal concierge, dealing with the nitty gritty wedding details so the bride doesn t have to.

Business Lists UK, Accurate – Reliable Mailing Lists and Email Data, business

About Us

Having spent over 30 years in the direct marketing industry we have seen many changes, most of them I’m glad to say for the better. It’s hard to believe now that in 1981 we had a team of ladies (most men couldn’t type then) hammering out names and addresses to labels on electric typewriters. Nobody mentioned repetitive strain injury in those days but as is the way with new technology these lovely people were soon replaced by word processors. Quickly followed of course by cutting edge stuff this computers – all IBM486s of course (yes kids that’s a whole 486k of memory!).

But throughout all the changes there are 2 things that have remained the same. The integrity and accuracy of the mailing lists we supply and the outstanding level of customer service that each and every client receives. Timeless qualities I think you’d agree.

Mailing Lists Email Data

Business listThe mailing lists you see on the following pages are a mix of in-house and third party data but is by no means exhaustive. If you are therefore looking for something a bit out of the ordinary or perhaps something more straightforward that isn’t listed it is always worth asking the question as more often than not it will be out there hiding somewhere. The figures relate to the number of postal records available for each category but you will need to contact us if you require counts for email data as these are changing constantly.

All addresses and telephone numbers are screened regularly against MPS/TPS files and email data is fully compliant with UK data protection law. Due however to current legislation some mailing lists will have almost 100% coverage whereas others will have hardly any at all.

In-House Mailing Facility

In addition to supplying mailing lists we also offer a complete in-house mailing facility where you only pay for the actual postage incurred. Further details and prices are available on request.

As a small family business we understand the value of a personal one-to-one approach and it is our objective to try and exceed your expectations so that hopefully you remember us the next time. And of course if we get it right you’ll probably tell all your friends about us.

Which is what we want.

Oh and by the way we are really nice people to deal with! See for yourself

Operating a small business can include a variety of business expenses. The actual expenses you incur will depend on factors like the type and size of your enterprise. Anticipating expenses and managing them efficiently will help ensure the success of your small business. Making a list of possible expenses can help you in your expense management efforts.

    Payroll

About 40 percent of small business owners in 2006 indicated that their largest expense was payroll, according to Master Card International. This means that how effectively you manage your payroll goes a long way toward determining your business amp;#039;s success.

    Marketing

You need to develop some form of marketing strategy to promote your business and to differentiate yourself from your competition. Expenses you incur depend on the strategy you choose.

    Technology

It is difficult to operate a modern business without a computer and Internet access. You might also need to install a state-of-the-art telephone system geared to the size of your business.

    Overhead

Unless you are operating a home business, you need a place to conduct your enterprise. A business office incurs overhead expenses like rent, utility and insurance.

    Bookkeeping

If you operate a very small business with just a handful of employees, you may be able to get by with accounting software like Quicken or Peachtree. If your business is larger, you might have to pay for a professional bookkeeping service or accountant.

    Automobile

Another possible expense is a company auto, or even a small fleet of autos. According to the Small Business Town Network website, in 2006, 64.1 percent of businesses with fewer than 100 employees found the need to purchase, rent or lease at least one business vehicle.

    Inventory

If your business involves selling any type of product, you likely need to carry an inventory. You must manage your inventory effectively to avoid additional expenses associated with having too much product on hand or missing sales by running out.

    Office Supplies

Businesses have an ongoing need for office supplies, ranging from stationery to paper clips to ink cartridges for your printers. Include the purchase of desks and chairs.

    Package Delivery

If your business involves package delivery, such as operating an online selling and shipping business out of your home, factor in expenses associated with the shipping and receiving of merchandise.

    Website Development

Unless you have the technical expertise, you may need to hire an Internet marketing company to help you create your website and develop an online marketing strategy.

    The Top 100 Global Franchises

Franchise Direct’s Top 100 Global Franchises list is the premier, research-only based ranking of the world’s top 100 franchises. Using a methodology that goes far beyond system size and financial performance, the ranking is compiled by taking a host of criteria, giving each criterion a weighted value. The data for each franchise is plugged into a proprietary computer formula making the outcome as objective as possible.

The franchises that comprise the Top 100 Global Franchises stand out from thousands of franchises that have invested in international expansion strategies. The franchises were ranked using objective and measurable criteria, which includes:

    • System size based on numbers of units
    • Revenue for the system
    • Stability and growth
    • Number of years in operation
    • Market expansion

The ranking is also based on:

    • Best practices in the areas of franchisee support and training
    • Environmental policy
    • Social responsibility

Information was gathered from Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDDs), company submitted data, government filings, and published industry sources.

All of the Top 100 Global Franchises share the keys to business success at any level including: a well-defined business identity, a clear business plan, a commitment to training and support, sensitivity to environmental issues, and the ability to innovate to keep pace with ever-changing social and economic conditions. Furthermore, they do all of these things in more than one country by acquiring the necessary cultural sensitivities. The Top 100 Global Franchises thus serve as models for early-stage franchises looking to expand, as well as those companies considering the benefits of the franchise business model.

Please note that the Top 100 Global Franchises Ranking is not intended to endorse, advertise, or recommend any particular franchise system nor is it a definitive list. The ranking and accompanying report are simply meant to offer an objective look at some of the world s top franchise operations.

Hundreds of different small business options are available for people looking for the right venture. Although there can be almost as many variations as there are people who undertake a new business, most small businesses fit into certain main categories, based on their legal and ownership structure, company size, business location, and whether they are virtual or brick-and-mortar businesses. Your business probably fits into at least several of these groupings.

    Legal Status

The simplest legal forms for small businesses are sole proprietorships and partnerships. Neither is required to be registered with the state and taxes are managed on the owner’s or partners’ personal tax forms. These forms are best when there is little capital property or likelihood of being sued. A corporation is the opposite end of the spectrum, requiring registration with state and local authorities, separate business tax filings and regular meetings with an established board of directors. The S-corporation is a variation suitable for small businesses. Under this formulation, income is passed through to the individual stockholders and reflected on their personal tax forms. An LLC, or limited liability company, is another corporate variation which combines the liability protection of a corporation with the tax structures of a partnership.

    Independent Contractors

Perhaps you are a house-painter, freelance writer or party planner. If you work on your own, at times and for clients you choose, your business may fall into the independent contractor category. As the name implies, you create agreements or contracts on a per-job basis to accomplish a set task. Although you are doing work for your client in each case, you are considered self-employed, since you are not employed directly by any of the people for whom you perform jobs. Self-employed individuals are required to file quarterly estimated taxes and are responsible for claiming income on their personal tax forms. Many independent contractors are also home-based businesses.

    Physical or Virtual Location

Your small business may have an actual storefront or office, a solely online presence, or a combination of both. A legal practitioner, seamstress or caterer likely will have an office or physical location where she can meet with clients and keep the tools of her trade. A bookseller, translator or freelance writer, on the other hand, might successfully manage his business without a physical shop and do all his business through a website. Other businesses are best served by a combination of both physical and virtual presence — craftspeople in particular typically will display their goods at local craft coops or shows, but also have a website, perhaps as part of a virtual craft mall.

A List Of The Worst Business Advice You Can Follow – Ever

A List Of The Worst Business Advice You Can Follow Ever

There’s plenty of advice out there for how to start and run a business. But not all of it is good. In fact, there are some common sayings that are actually some of the worst business advice out there. The following includes some of the worst business advice you can follow.

    The Worst Business Advice

    Do What You Love

Although it may seem like a nice notion, this popular saying is widely considered one of the worst pieces of business advice out there. Just because you love doing something doesn’t mean that others will find it helpful or necessary. And if no one buys what you’re selling, then doing what you love won’t really get you anywhere.

If You Build It, They Will Come

Likewise, simply building an offering doesn’t mean that you’ll actually attract any customers. This saying implies that if you put in the work, there are customers out there who will support your business. But if you don’t do the research and find a market for your product or service, you very well could be in for a rude awakening.

    The Customer is Always Right

This popular saying is meant to encourage business owners and employees to work hard to accommodate customers. And while customers and their opinions are generally important to the success of businesses, they’re not always right. If you’re constantly giving discounts or changing your offerings every time a customer makes a demand, you could be hurting your brand and your bottom line.

Never Turn Down a Paying Customer

Likewise, you shouldn’t assume that every customer you get will help your business. Especially if you have a consulting business or provide some other service where it can be necessary for you to work with someone over the long-term, it may very well be in your best interest to only take on a few very select clients.

Don t Quit Your Day Job

This is some of the worst business advice out there because there’s no right path for every entrepreneur. If you’re just starting out, it may very well be in your best interest to keep your full-time job while building a business. But then again you might be better off quitting and putting all your time and effort into your new venture. When it comes to making this decision, each entrepreneur has to decide based on his or her own set of circumstances, and not listen to a single one-size-fits-all recommendation.

    Stay Away From Established Markets

Some experts claim that in order to start a successful business, you need to find a brand new niche or a huge gap in the market. But that’s not always true. You can start a business in an established market as long as you have at least one small thing that customers will appreciate to set you apart.

If You Want Something Done Right, You Have to Do It Yourself

Too many business owners try to do everything themselves because they have a hard time trusting anyone else with their business. But the fact is there are experts and great potential employees out there who can help you do things better than you could all by yourself.

It s All About Who You Know

Personal connections can certainly be helpful when it comes to running a successful business. But putting such a huge emphasis on them can discourage some people who aren’t well connected from starting businesses. You can always build connections as you go.

    Stick to Your Plan

A business plan is a helpful tool. But it shouldn’t be the ultimate, unchanging guide for your business. Sometimes things change, and you should be able to adapt your plan to those changes.

Follow an Established Path to Success

Some experts think that there are just one or two ways to make it in the business world. But young, innovative entrepreneurs are forging their own paths every day. So don’t let anyone tell you that there’s one path you HAVE TO take in order to succeed.

Keep Your Business and Personal Life Separate

While there can be some merit to this piece of advice in certain situations, it’s no longer an absolute rule. Some small businesses actually thrive because the owner or the team shares their personality with customers. You don’t need to air all of your personal drama on social media. But being a little bit open and personable with your customers can be a good thing.

    All Attention is Good Attention

Drawing attention to your business, especially during the early stages, can be difficult. So when you get any type of attention or press it might seem like a good thing. But if that attention isn’t in line with your brand and the image you want to portray, it could be doing more harm than good.

    Hire the Most Experienced People

Experience can be a very good quality when looking to build your team. But it shouldn’t be the only quality you look for. Finding people who are enthusiastic, talented, creative and who share your vision for your business can be just as important if not more so.

    Offer the Lowest Prices

Plenty of new businesses fall into the trap of trying to differentiate themselves from the competition by offering the lowest prices. But that isn’t always sustainable depending upon your costs and your business model. And it could damage your reputation moving forward.

Work Hard and Success Will Come

Hard work is certainly important when it comes to running a successful business. But it is not the only thing that matters. Don’t think that just because you’re putting in long hours and trying your best that success will eventually come. Sometimes it s more important to work smart than to work hard. Ultimately, the results you get are what matter.

    Don t Try New Things

If you’ve found one or two things that work in your business, it can seem like a safe bet to stick with what works. But doing that won’t allow your business to grow as quickly as you might like. Trying new things can be risky, but it can also be rewarding.

    Never Say No

Saying no to new clients, partnerships or opportunities may seem like a bad business strategy. But if you say yes to everything, you could be spreading yourself too thin or taking your business in too many different directions. You need to be very intentional when making those decisions so you can be sure that they’re going to benefit your business in the long run.

You Have to Spend Money to Make Money

This can be true in some circumstances. But you shouldn’t fall into the trap of thinking that making big investments in new equipment, employees, training or other resources, will magically make your business better. You need to be smart about how you spend. And besides, many entrepreneurs have built highly successful businesses with very few or almost no resources at all .

    Never Stop Working

You have to work hard to run a successful business. But you also need to find a balance, or else you’ll burn yourself out and find yourself too uninspired to run your business successful. The risk of burnout is one reason work-life balance is an absolute must.

    Give Up

Not all businesses succeed. In fact, most don’t. But this is still some of the worst business advice you could ever receive. It’s never up to someone else whether you give up or not. If that’s a decision you need to make, it should be based on more than just outside opinions. Never let others decide when it is time for you to throw in the towel.

What are some of the worst pieces of business advice you have ever heard?

2015 Top Franchises from Entrepreneur s Franchise 500 List

    Understanding the Ranking

There’s a lot that goes into putting together the first, best and most comprehensive franchise ranking in the world. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at Entrepreneur’s 37th annual Franchise 500 .

The process began in July 2015, when we asked franchisors to participate in our survey. Each submission was vetted before being entered for data analysis; 951 companies made the first cut. Of those, the top 500 became the Franchise 500 ranking, based on financial and statistical data from July 2013 through July 2015.

Only franchise companies that supply a full Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) or Canadian Disclosure Document and whose information is verified by Entrepreneur can receive a listing. To be eligible for the Franchise 500 , a franchisor must have a minimum of 10 units, with at least one franchise located in the U.S. The company must be seeking new franchisees in the U.S. and it cannot be in Chapter 11 at the time the ranking is compiled. (The exception to these rules is Canada-based companies that are expanding only in Canada.)

All companies are judged by the same criteria: objective, quantifiable measures of a franchise operation. The most important factors include financial strength and stability, growth rate and size of the system. We also consider the number of years a company has been in business and the length of time it’s been franchising, startup costs, litigation, percentage of terminations and whether the company provides financing. Financial data is analyzed by an independent CPA.

We do not measure subjective elements such as franchisee satisfaction or management style. The objective factors are plugged into our exclusive Franchise 500 formula, with each eligible company receiving a cumulative score.

Remember that the Franchise 500 is not intended to endorse, advertise or recommend any particular franchise. It is solely a research tool you can use to compare franchise operations. Entrepreneur stresses that you should always conduct your own independent investigation before investing money in a franchise. Read the FDD and related materials carefully, get help from a franchise attorney and a CPA in reviewing any legal or financial documents, and talk to as many existing and former franchisees as possible and visit their outlets. The best way to protect yourself is to do your homework.

Research compiled by Tracy Stapp Herold and J.R. Jimenez with assistance from Hava Arieh, Rick Ignarra, Nicole Jurinek, Yvette Madrid, Jessica Nguyen and Giuseppe Ricapito; technical assistance from Angel Cool and Daniel Sibitzky; financial analysis by David R. Juedes, CPA; graphic design by Karen Meneghin.

    Plumbing

Improper plumbing can result in the introduction of pathogenic organisms into drinking water and the escape of toxic gases into the environment. These outcomes have the potential to lead to disease and adverse health effects. To protect public health, the Illinois Department of Public Health regulates plumbers and the plumbing trade by maintaining a minimum code of standards for plumbing practices. Individuals who plan, inspect, install, alter, extend, repair, and maintain plumbing systems in state of Illinois must be licensed. IDPH licenses approximately 8,900 plumbers and 2,000 apprentice plumbers. To obtain a license, individuals must pass a state licensing exam after working under a licensed plumber as a licensed apprentice for a 48 to 72 month period. Additionally, licensed plumbers are obligated to maintain and improve their skills and knowledge related to plumbing by completing continuing education requirements annually. IDPH similarly regulates lawn irrigation systems and licenses irrigation contractors to safeguard public health. IDPH licenses over 200 lawn irrigation contractors who oversee a combined total of nearly 1,000 irrigation employees.

    Who does IDPH license?

Under the Illinois Plumbing License Law (225 ILCS 320), the Department licenses plumbers, plumbing contractors, plumbers’ apprentices, irrigation contractors and retired plumbers.

    Plumbing Licensing Requirements

Individuals seeking to be initially licensed as a plumber with the Department must complete a “Plumber’s License: Application for Examination ” form at least 30 days prior to the exam date and pay the required fee. Applicants must be U.S. citizens (or in the process of declaring citizenship), have been employed as a licensed apprentice plumber for a minimum of 4 years, and have successfully completed at least 2 years of high school or equivalent in addition to completing an approved course instruction through a college, university or trade school. If an applicant must retake the plumbing examination, the applicant must complete the “Plumber’s Licenses: Examination Retake Form ” and submit the applicable fee to the Department.

    Plumbing License Renewal

Plumber licenses must be renewed by April 30th following the date of issuance via the online renewal page. Illinois state law requires all applicants, whether or not they have children, to certify whether they are delinquent in the payment of child support. The application will not be approved until this information has been completed.

Requirements for the Licensing of Apprentice Plumbers

Individuals must be at least 16 years old, complete the “Apprentice Plumber’s License Application ” form, and provide proof of sponsorship by an Illinois licensed plumber or approved apprenticeship program. After a maximum apprenticeship period of 6 years, those individuals who do not apply for the plumbers licensing exam (or fail the exam) will not be eligible for a renewal of the apprentice license. If a licensed plumber terminates sponsorship of an apprentice plumber, the “Apprentice Plumber: Notice of Cancellation of Employment/Supervision ” form must be completed and submitted to the Department within 15 days after an apprentice is no longer employed or supervised by that plumber or program.

    Requirements for Plumbing Contractors

Plumbing Contractors are any licensed plumber or apprentice plumber who performs work for another person. All plumbing contractors must register with the state and pay an annual fee. Plumbing contractors must maintain minimum general liability insurance, bodily injury insurance, property damage insurance, and worker’s compensation insurance. To register as a plumbing contractor, applicants should complete the “Plumbing Contractors: Application for Registration ” form.

    Requirements for Irrigation Contractors

Irrigation contractors install or supervise the installation of lawn sprinkler systems. Each irrigation contractor in the state of Illinois must register annually with the Department by completing the “Irrigation Contractors: Application for Registration ” form. Additionally, employers must register all employees who install or supervise installation of lawn sprinkler systems, as well as inform the Department when employment is cancelled via the “Irrigation Contractors: Notice of Cancellation of Employment ” form.

Illinois state law requires all applicants, whether or not they have children, to certify whether they are delinquent in the payment of child support. Applicants can submit that information by completing the “Irrigation Contractors: Application Child Support Certification ” form. The application will not be approved until this information has been completed.

Requirements to Obtain a Retired Plumbing License

The retired plumber’s license is intended for those individuals who wish to retire and do not anticipate to continue practicing plumbing in the state of Illinois. This license allows plumbers to carry a state license proving competence, while still providing the option of reinstating or restoring their plumbing license at a lower cost than renewal of an expired licensed. A retired plumber cannot sponsor or supervise apprentice plumbers, and cannot inspect plumbing.

To be eligible for a retired plumbing license, an individual must hold an active Illinois plumbing license, be at least 62 years old or physically unable to perform the responsibilities of a licensed plumber, and voluntarily surrender their current Illinois plumbing license.

    Advertisement of Plumbing Services

Pursuant to the Illinois Plumbing License Law (225 ILCS 320/5), businesses and individuals offering plumbing services shall, at their place of business, display the plumbing license of at least one of the members and maintain a register listing all the names and license numbers of all licensed plumbers and licensed apprentice plumbers currently employed by them.

All advertisements for plumbing services must include the plumbing license number in the advertisement. Failure to display the correct number or allowing shared use of licensing numbers can result in prosecution of a Class A misdemeanor and may lead to a fine of $1,000 and suspension/revocation of the license.

Six of the Best Open Source Data Mining Tools

It is rightfully said that data is money in today’s world. Along with the transition to an app-based world comes the exponential growth of data. However, most of the data is unstructured and hence it takes a process and method to extract useful information from the data and transform it into understandable and usable form. This is where data mining comes into picture. Plenty of tools are available for data mining tasks using artificial intelligence, machine learning and other techniques to extract data.

Here are six powerful open source data mining tools available:

Written in the Java Programming language, this tool offers advanced analytics through template-based frameworks. A bonus: Users hardly have to write any code. Offered as a service, rather than a piece of local software, this tool holds top position on the list of data mining tools.

In addition to data mining, RapidMiner also provides functionality like data preprocessing and visualization, predictive analytics and statistical modeling, evaluation, and deployment. What makes it even more powerful is that it provides learning schemes, models and algorithms from WEKA and R scripts.

Join us for pancakes at SpringOne2GX. a conference for app developers, solution and data architects. Sessions are specifically tailored for developers and architects using the popular open source Spring IO Projects, Groovy Grails, Cloud Foundry, RabbitMQ, Redis, Geode, Hadoop and Tomcat technologies.

RapidMiner is distributed under the AGPL open source licence and can be downloaded from SourceForge where it is rated the number one business analytics software.

The original non-Java version of WEKA primarily was developed for analyzing data from the agricultural domain. With the Java-based version, the tool is very sophisticated and used in many different applications including visualization and algorithms for data analysis and predictive modeling. Its free under the GNU General Public License, which is a big plus compared to RapidMiner, because users can customize it however they please.

WEKA supports several standard data mining tasks, including data preprocessing, clustering, classification, regression, visualization and feature selection.
WEKA would be more powerful with the addition of sequence modeling, which currently is not included.

What if I tell you that Project R, a GNU project, is written in R itself? It’s primarily written in C and Fortran. And a lot of its modules are written in R itself. It’s a free software programming language and software environment for statistical computing and graphics. The R language is widely used among data miners for developing statistical software and data analysis. Ease of use and extensibility has raised R s popularity substantially in recent years.

Besides data mining it provides statistical and graphical techniques, including linear and nonlinear modeling, classical statistical tests, time-series analysis, classification, clustering, and others.

Python is picking up in popularity because it’s simple and easy to learn yet powerful. Hence, when it comes to looking for a tool for your work and you are a Python developer, look no further than Orange, a Python-based, powerful and open source tool for both novices and experts.

You will fall in love with this tool’s visual programming and Python scripting. It also has components for machine learning, add-ons for bioinformatics and text mining. It’s packed with features for data analytics.

Data preprocessing has three main components: extraction, transformation and loading. KNIME does all three. It gives you a graphical user interface to allow for the assembly of nodes for data processing. It is an open source data analytics, reporting and integration platform. KNIME also integrates various components for machine learning and data mining through its modular data pipelining concept and has caught the eye of business intelligence and financial data analysis.

Written in Java and based on Eclipse, KNIME is easy to extend and to add plugins. Additional functionalities can be added on the go. Plenty of data integration modules are already included in the core version.

When it comes to language processing tasks, nothing can beat NLTK. NLTK provides a pool of language processing tools including data mining, machine learning, data scraping, sentiment analysis and other various language processing tasks. All you need to do is install NLTK, pull a package for your favorite task and you are ready to go. Because it’s written in Python, you can build applications on top if it, customizing it for small tasks.

Chandan Goopta is a data researcher at Kathmandu University, focusing on building intelligent algorithms for sentiment analysis.

    Top Deals

In 2012, Gmail overtook Hotmail to become the most popular email provider in the world. Since claiming the crown, it s showing no signs of slowing down. Today, the service boasts more than one billion users.

60 percent of mid-sized US companies and 92 percent of start-ups rely on it.

The other go-to free email provider The Best Free Email Accounts You Need to Consider The Best Free Email Accounts You Need to Consider Everyone knows about Gmail. If you think that’s the best free email account out there, you’re underestimating all the other services. You have options and we have the details. Read More is Yahoo Mail. Sure, its user numbers pale into insignificance compared with Gmail (it had around 250 million at the start of 2017), but it s still one of the most recognizable global email brands.

But what other alternatives are out there? If you don t want a Gmail or Yahoo account, what choices do you have?

Let s take a look at six of the most popular free email providers outside the big two.

    1. Microsoft Outlook

The service has surpassed Yahoo to become the second most popular free email provider in the world. In mid-2016, Microsoft reported it had more than 450 million active users.

Using an Outlook account comes with significant benefits. Because it s operated by Microsoft, it s heavily integrated into the Windows 10 operating system. It also works seamlessly with the Outlook Office 365 app Microsoft Office What? A Guide to the Office Suite Ecosystem Microsoft Office What? If you decide to use either the web client or the desktop client, you re in good company. 16 percent of all email sent is opened on one of the two apps.

    2. GMX Mail

GMX Mail is a subsidiary of United Internet, one of Germany s largest internet service providers. The free mail service has been gaining in popularity over the last few years, but it s been around since 1997.

Despite only having 11 million active monthly users, it still comfortably makes the top ten of free email providers in terms of user numbers. It s a surprising statistic, and one which reveals the almost unassailable popularity of services like Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook.

Feature-wise, you can expect 1 GB of file storage, a 50 MB attachment limit, and support for both IMAP and POP. Most interestingly, it offers unlimited email storage; you ll never run out of space again. Unfortunately, it lacks an RSS reader and conversation view.

    3. Zoho Mail

Zoho Mail is one of the newest providers on the list. It s only been in existence since October 2008.

In its short life, the service has quickly developed into one of the best free email providers outside the Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook troika. Driven by an ad-free web client (even for free users), it s grown to more than 10 million active users in just nine years.

The app offers everything you d expect from a free email provider, including multi-level folders, conversation views, drag-and-drop inbox organizing, and filters. One omission is an integrated video chat tool.

Zoho Mail is part of a larger office productivity suite. The service is tightly integrated with Zoho Docs a Google Docs competitor that lets you create, edit, and collaborate on text, presentation, and spreadsheet documents.

    4. iCloud

iCloud represents Apple s venture into free email. Most Mac, iPad, and iPhone users have an account. iCloud itself is a holistic cloud service. It underpins other Apple services such as Find My iPhone, Photo Stream, Keychain, and iCloud Drive What is iCloud Drive How Does it Work? What is iCloud Drive How Does it Work? Confused about what makes iCloud Drive different to Apple’s other cloud services? Let us show you what it can do, and how you can make the most of it. Read More. Mail is just one facet of the app.

All iCloud users get 5 GB of storage for free. In addition to documents, photos, and other data, any emails you receive count against the limit. As such, you might need to pay for more storage if iCloud is your provider of choice.

    5. AOL Mail

AOL Mail is the granddad of free email services. It went live in March 1993, making it three years older than Hotmail, four years older than Yahoo Mail, and almost ten years older than Gmail.

Because of its age, it has a huge user base. Nevertheless, the numbers have been decreasing in recent years. In 2006, it had 50 million active monthly users, and as recently as 2010 it was the third-largest email provider in the world.

Today, the number of active users is down to 25 million. However, experts expect numbers to start increasing again soon thanks to Verizon s March 2017 decision to close its own in-house email service and move all its users to AOL instead.

Just because AOL Mail is a recognizable brand name with millions of users, you shouldn t necessarily rush to sign up. In recent years, several pieces of research have hinted at email bias . Potential employers are less likely to hire you if you have an AOL or Hotmail address; it suggests you re stuck in 1996.

    6. Elude

I m going to leave you with something a bit different. Rather than listing another popular mainstream email provider, you should give Elude a chance. Elude is rapidly becoming the most popular email provider on the darknet.

Despite only launching in mid-2017, it s been hoovering up privacy-conscious users who are desperate to find another secure, anonymous, and simple email provider The 3 Most Secure Encrypted Email Providers Online The 3 Most Secure Encrypted Email Providers Online Fed up with government surveillance? Concerned your emails might be read by third parties? If so, it’s worth looking at an encrypted email solution to protect your messages. Read More after the collapse of SIGAINT.

At its peak, SIGAINT had 400,000 users. It s safe to assume Elude will ultimately have similar numbers.

Elude does not use JavaScript, does not require any phone numbers or other forms of ID at sign up, and encrypts all server traffic.

Because it has a .onion URL, you can only access Elude through the TOR browser.

Which Email Provider Do You Prefer?

In this article, I ve introduced you to six of the most popular email providers other than Gmail and Yahoo. Each has different benefits, but they all have the common theme of being highly popular among certain subsets of users.

Now it s your turn to add to the conversation. Which email provider do you use? Did they make this list? If not, tell us why it deserves to be mentioned.

As always, you can leave all your comments and suggestions in the comments below.

2016 Top Franchises from Entrepreneur s Franchise 500 List
