7 Master Tips for Your Next Business Presentation #business #solutions

#

Those who give presentations at conferences, as part of a sales demo, in a marketing push for a new product, or even during a TED talk know how to wow an audience. They excel at turning a boring presentation into something people will talk about in the hallway and even on the ride back to the office. Recently, the folks at FlowVella –an app for making presentations on computer, phone, and tablet–sent me tips from some of their customers on how to make sure your presentation is a winner.

1. Tell a story.

“Instead of boring your audience to tears, develop a genuine connection with your audience. How? Throughout your presentation, tell stories that add meaning and depth to your message. Telling personal stories will make you more likable, trustworthy, and interesting. In addition, facts and stats typically stimulate only two areas of the human brain, but stories can activate up to seven, and trigger emotional responses within listeners. Presentations that are engaging both mentally and emotionally are more memorable and influential, thus more successful.”
Leslie Belknap, marketing director at Ethos3

2. Vary the template.

“If it looks stock, it probably is. Altering an existing template doesn’t take a tremendous amount of time. It also indicates that the presenter knows how to represent the idea and narrative visually. Don’t be afraid to change colors, add logos, and alter the elements for a totally unique look with just a few minutes of work. Font selection is very important. The font is not just a typeface. It represents the idea through the actual look of the word. It should align with the tone of the core idea/narrative. Furthermore, font selection is most critical for readability. Adding a bursting star doesn’t mean you are increasing the impact of a point or a component of a slide/frame. Instead, add punch with mixed media. Bringing an idea or point to life through text, images, photography, video, etc. is much more memorable than cheap movements. Your software should allow for insertion of PDFs and video.”–Ryan Mack, president of Carrot Creative. a VICE Company

3. Use a storyboard.

“The most traditional (and foolish) way to create a presentation is to open up a blank PowerPoint document and try to make magic happen. This can result in mistakes in flow, logic, and overall cohesion, as you try to write and design each concept in real time. Steal a writer’s tip and create a text-only framework for the entire thing before you launch into the full draft. It’s just like the outline you used to create for fifth-grade book reports, where all of your sub points support your main points, and the intro and outro tie everything together. Aim for a single summary of your core idea, supported by three smaller sub points that will prove your summary. And of course, don’t start to design your work without making sure that the outline is airtight. The result? No more strange tangents, lost points, and unnecessary slides.”
Sunday Avery, content writer at Ethos3

4. Think about introverts and extroverts in the audience.

“One of the best pieces of advice came to me from a mentor years ago. He told me all audiences are generally comprised of a 50/50 balance of introverts and extroverts. I have tested his theory on audiences since then and can attest to it’s validity. The grand lesson: never lean your presentation in one direction. For instance, if your presentation is dominated by workshops and activities, your extroverts are going to love you and your introverts are going to despise you. On the opposite end of that spectrum, if you lecture the entire time, your introverts will feel comfortable and your extroverts will get bored. Presenters must make the extra effort to balance their message and activities. Like most things in life, moderation is key.”
–Scott Schwertly, CEO of Ethos3

5. Keep it to three points.

“The human brain works like this: One, two, three. I forget. No one is going to remember your tenth point, yet most presenters today feel it is necessary to showcase everything they know about a specific topic. The sad reality is that we live in a world with short attention span. Presenters either win hearts by being succinct or they neglect this responsibility and get forgotten forever. Therefore, the stage or front of the room is not the appropriate place to exhibit your depth of knowledge via 17 different takeaways. No one is going to remember them, or you.”
–Scott Schwertly, CEO of Ethos3

6. Whatever you are selling, you are still selling ideas.

“It doesn’t matter what widget or service you’re offering. These days, people are not buying either–they are buying ideas. Nobody is buying an Apple Watch. They are buying the ideas of new fitness or faster communication or prestige and early adopter status, or some blend thereof. A presentation is no longer about closing anything but rather about germinating an idea that resonates with the audience. The idea then drives a passion to acquire the product or service. That’s a much stronger way to sell. But how do you create a presentation that plants the idea you are communicating into the mind of the viewer? And how do you stay on track when working with ideas? First, you have to ask who the audience is. Before I start a presentation, I make slide No. 1 and list all I know about the audience on it. Tech savvy or consumer end user? Decision makers or influencers? Buying for self or for the firm? Likes short and sweet or likes story and emotion? After that, I put topics in logical order on each of the following slides and build the images and the story to fit all the info I placed on Slide No. 1. That slide will keep telling me how to position my points to create ideas the audience can relate to and that will fan the fires of desire for my solutions.”
Jonathan Todd, managing director at 808 Marketing

7. Balance the theater and the scholar.

“George Lois said selling is the ultimate mix of scholarship and theatre, expertise and style. This could not be more appropriate to consider when designing presentations because at their core, presentations are a sales pitch–we communicate an idea to another individual or group of individuals in an attempt to make them agree, or ideally, fall in love with the idea. So, always be sure you are demonstrating scholarship with style. If you are all style, then you’re a poser. Potentially a hack. If you are all scholarship, then you’re boring. or worst off, forgettable. The balance is incredibly important.”
Ryan Mack, president of Carrot Creative, a VICE Company

HMS Surprise Pictures – The Ship from Master & Commander now in

#

The SURPRISE began her life in Nova Scotia in 1970 as HMS ROSE . She was a near-exact replica of the 6th-rate frigate of the same name which served the British Navy with distinction in the American War of Independence. The original Rose met her end in 1779 when she was scuttled at the enterance to the port of Savanna in order to block the French fleet during the Siege of Savannah

The new HMS Rose sailed the oceans of the world for thirty years as a sail training vessel. Then in March of 2001, she was sold to 20th Century Fox to be modified for use in the production of the movie, “Master and Commander; Far Side of the World”. For that she was re-named, HMS Surprise. Subsequent to the completion of the movie, she was again sold, this time to The Maritime Museum of San Diego where she remains today.

The stern gallery was extensively modified for filming the movie, “Master and Commander; Far Side of the World”, starring Russell Crowe and directed by Peter Weir.

Master of Fine Arts

The MFA is the highest degree in the creative practice of visual art.

An artist’s studio practice is best learned through self-design and execution. While we emphasize fostering private creative roles, our practice-based, multidisciplinary program also focuses on marketing your work in today’s creative professional fields. In our two-year, 60-hour curriculum of project-based thinking, you’ll design, create and explain your work. In other words: You’re the artist, it’s your vision, and it’s up to you to communicate it.

MFA project proposals can be based in painting, drawing, photography, animation, sculpture, video, interactive design, printmaking, illustration, installation, glass, ceramics and design.

As an MFA student, you’ll work with select faculty who provide one-on-one feedback. They will push and challenge you as part of a community that is supportive and rigorous, demanding and compassionate. You’ll meet weekly in the Graduate Seminar for group critiques with your faculty and peers. Our program features small class sizes, accepting only nine to 15 students per year. To gain exposure and insight from industry professionals, you’ll also work with an off-campus mentor or participate in a practicum. The degree concludes with a thesis project, written thesis paper and oral defense.

You can get even more information in our MFA Guidebook or join us on campus for an information session .

MFA FACILITIES

We’ve built an environment to fuel collaboration, experimentation and creation.

The CCAD MFA program is located on the second and third floors of CCAD’s Design Studios on Broad, a renovated early-20th-century auto dealership near downtown Columbus. The 13,700-square-foot graduate facility includes individual student studios, faculty offices, a lounge and an exhibition space. You’ll also have access to CCAD’s library, plus many labs, shops, computer complexes, darkrooms and studios.

MENTORSHIP EXPERIENCE

Your education isn’t limited to what happens in our classrooms in Columbus. As a graduate student, you’ll participate in an Off-Campus Mentorship Experience where you define what “Off-Campus” means to you. This could mean a residency in Ireland, a three-week endeavor at the Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle or working with a nonprofit just down the street. Maybe you’re looking to create a virtual mentorship with an internationally acclaimed artist overseas. Meant to be complementary to your CCAD education, this exposure to an outside business, community and/or cultural leader will be influential as you dive into a greater depth of understanding yourself as an artist. Your mentor is a resource for developing your professional skills, finding pathways to your desired career and more.

EAR Disc Master Turntable #master #e-commerce, #ear #disc #master #turntable #

Tim de Paravicini began contemplating a radical new design for a turntable several decades ago, but the advent of digital audio put the project on hold. Now, with interest in analog not only continuing but growing, he has finalized his design and introduced the Disc Master turntable. While many turntables have appeared on the market in recent years, few offer as many novel features as the Disc Master, but this is not novelty for its own sake. The Disc Master represents a new standard for LP playback.

Most striking is the no-contact drive system. The need to transfer power to the platter of a turntable has always been problematic, as any system with the capacity to transfer power can, by the same means, transfer vibration. Flexible rubber belts have proved a satisfactory solution, but suffer problems of slippage—hence, uncertain speed—and they pull the platter sideways, which can result in stability problems. Tim de Paravicini has arrived at an ingenious solution that solves these problems. A low-noise motor, controlled by a carefully optimized servo loop, drives a subplatter via a geared belt that ensures absolute speed control. The sub-platter drives the platter via an arrangement of opposing magnets. This method not only eliminates slippage, but allows enough compliance to filter out any remaining vibration from the motor and belt, while applying a fully symmetric driving force.

Bearings are another problem for a turntable designer, one that Tim de Paravicini has solved by the use of Swiss-made, precision angular contact bearings, which are as quiet as the more common point-contact types, but wear much more slowly, so that their performance after years of use will be as good as on initial purchase.

The platter is made of an ultra-low-resonance composite of resin and inorganic filler, accurately machined and supported on an instrument-grade aluminum chassis. Adjustable, damped feet support the assembly. Three speeds—33, 45, and 78rpm—are offered, with a continuous speed control for 78 to accommodate discs cut at non-standard speeds.

All common tonearms can be mounted and adjusted with ease. The Disc Master is also available with a special EAR version of the Helius Omega tonearm. The Omega arm is as radical a rethinking of tonearm design as the Disc Master is a reconsideration of turntable design, and the two work superbly together.

Positive Feedback Online e.a.r. Disk Master turntable By Robert H. Levi, October 2009
“. The E.A.R. Disk Master turntable is all you’ve heard about and more. It plays your favorite LP’s with significantly less distortion and noise than any other table in its price range or substantially more.”

The Absolute Sound Review of EAR Disc Master
“. This design represents a breakthrough in turntables, and as such is probably the forerunner of a revolution in LP reproduction. What this means in terms of sound is that, for the first time, you don’t hear the LP, an experience akin to riding in a car whose wheels do not touch the road. Make no mistake. this is the future!”

The Value of an Advanced Degree

During some point in their careers, many working adults analyze whether the commitment needed to earn an advanced degree balances out the professional and personal advantages they can gain by earning an MEd or EdD

These advantages, including specialized knowledge, increased professional networking, and other resources and skills gained as part of the learning experience, can be powerful incentives. Each candidate ultimately will need to decide for him or herself. We can, however, provide guidance. Specifically, there is data to show the benefits of a master’s degree for teachers, both in terms of compensation and classroom performance.

The following statistics are based around our MEd and EdD programs. We’ve been offering MEd degrees online for several years and now have thousands of Master of Education online graduates. The above statistics address national trends in the education sector. And many other colleges and universities also offer advanced online degree programs.

Mastering Education

In terms of the education sector nationally, we can show teachers with MEd and EdD degrees earn more than their counterparts who don’t hold advanced degrees:

  • Both public and private school teachers with master’s degrees earn more money. with public school teachers holding master’s degrees averaging a 23.9% salary increase and private school teachers holding master’s degrees averaging a 28.4% salary increase compared to their counterparts who hold only undergraduate degrees, according to the National Center for Education Statistics [NCEA Table 87, prepared May 2013] .
  • Public and private school teachers with doctoral degrees likewise report earning more money. with public school teachers holding an EdD or equivalent averaging a 33.8% salary increase and similarly qualified private school teachers averaging a 64.5% increase compared to counterparts who hold only bachelor’s degrees [NCEA Table 87, prepared May 2013] .
  • An advanced degree can also help teachers boost student performance, which is an increasingly important element in terms of salary increases or other pay boosts: Since 2005, students in grades 4 and 8 led by teachers with a master’s education scored higher on standardized math and reading assessments than did students whose teachers held only bachelor’s degrees, according to the latest report from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), the largest nationally representative assessment of students. [Source: U.S. Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences, National Center for Education Statistics, National Assessment of Educational Progress, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 Math and Reading Assessments.]

7 Master Tips for Your Next Business Presentation #inexpensive #business #cards

#business presentation

During the Action Research course, candidates will learn more about action research methodology, complete final edits of the literature review, and design a complete action research proposal including data collection methods and analysis approaches. The developed proposal will NOT be implemented with students/participants during the course.

The Action Research experience provides candidates with requisite skills and means to pursue the transformative practice called “Action Research” in their classroom, school, district or other work environment. The design of the capstone project closely aligns with current classroom realities, with district and school requirements, and the needs of teachers and students.

The Thesis option offers candidates the opportunity to investigate, in depth, a topic in the field of education. The candidate will explore relevant literature and present a thesis following the procedure established by the College of Education.

The Practitioner Inquiry course focuses on the reflective acts of the candidate as an educator seeking to improve teaching practice. Premised in the self-study research methodological traditions (Samaras, 2011), Practitioner Inquiry provides the opportunity to reflect on teaching practice and generate improvements based on classroom observation. Practitioner Inquiry focuses on the educator and her/his own practices, developing skills of inquiry, observation, reflection, and action in teachers.

    Online International Business Degree Programs

After establishing a predominant market for its products domestically, many companies seek expansion overseas, hoping to win over customers and clients abroad. However, as the rules can change as you cross borders, what were the keys to success at home might lead to a downfall in overseas markets. Customs and market regulations vary from country to country, and marketing techniques vary widely in their ability to reach the target customer. Pricing and distribution strategies must also be adapted to realities in countries as disparate as Cambodia and Norway–if a company ever hopes to replicate the success it enjoys at home. As the world economy becomes increasingly integrated, the international business person is more important than ever.

What an International Business Degree Can Do for You

A degree in international business can help managers surmount the barriers that have traditionally prevented companies from thriving in markets outside their home turf. Programs are designed to give you the type of career training needed not only to succeed in the international business setting, but also to gain the cultural understanding that plays an integral role in this type of business environment.

International business continues to grow as businesses seek ways to expand overseas and gain a share of the global market. A myriad of factors can affect a company’s development in the international market and a graduate of an international business program should learn how to navigate foreign business markets, as well as foreign cultural, social, and political environments. With new technological advances in telecommunications, the business world continues to get smaller. Career training in international business can provide you with a greater understanding of how globalization affects both economics and business practices worldwide.

    International Business Degree Programs

Traditional business disciplines include course in accounting, finance, marketing, sales, economics, strategy, and organizational behavior. Additionally, international business programs typically include coursework in international law, international trade and customs, strategic alliances and joint ventures with foreign firms. Specific subjects may vary from program to program–some may offer the opportunity to study a foreign language while others allow students to specialize in a specific country.

Sample subjects may include business operations, imports and exports, and trade controls. In addition, international business students may also take courses in the following:

    • Trade controls
    • Tariffs
    • Tax
    • Monetary issues
    • Foreign exchange
    • Customs
    • International financial transaction

As the demand for individuals with global expertise increases, career training in international business can pave the way to a rewarding and exciting career. Online universities and colleges offer flexible schedules to allow students to fit the coursework into their daily lives–not the other way around.

From learning second languages to understanding different cultures, staying ahead of international market developments and practices, the international business degree can prepare students to look beyond borders and conduct business on a global scale.

Sites built on cloud services such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure can now automatically and transparently redirect user traffic from their bare domain name to the www version of their sites. Simply add a http redirection record in the edgedirector control panel and all further record maintenance is automatic. The edgedirector http redirection service is geodns enabled and hosted on multiple distributed redundant edgedirector servers

Affiliate marketers and traffic aggregators can use chained redirects crossing domains as a means of referral masking to protect the source of their user traffic.

dns services for geo-targetted global load balancing
dns services for automatic distributed failover

server health is constantly monitored in parallel from multiple data centers, when a server fails or the server requests a pause, the dns records are dynamically altered to point to other balanced servers or hot spare standby servers

dns records are dynamically selected to respond to queries with the server address configured for the geographic location as determined by the address of the incoming query

global load balancing, failover and hot spare features can be combined to achieve the best result possible for high availability and lowest network latency

DNS is a core internet protocol that enables your web presence by translating human readable domain names to network routable addresses. DNS availability is critical to delivering your audience to your site on demand around the clock.

Our managed authoritative dns hosting services deliver the DNS uptime and availability that are crucial to your success.

The edgedirector.com authoritative dns server platform is scalable, flexible, and responsive. It delivers accurate dns responses quickly and propagates dns zone record changes immediately to all dns servers. No more waiting for dns updates. It is authoritative dns service at its best.

The service is further enhanced with an advanced dns feature set to help you stay at the front of the internet pack.

    automated maintenance failover
When your servers are unavailable, your visitors are pointed to a information page hosted on edgedirector.com servers. The pointing mechanism is specially designed to inform and reassure human users while also avoiding search engine penalties. Even if all of your servers in every data center are unavailable, your users will still receive some reassurance that you will be back.

    wildcard dns record support
Users can be directed to a default server when the hostname does not exist in your dns zone. No more lost users from typing errors like ww .example.com.

    global dns load balancing
Use dynamic geoip mapped dns records to point your users to the closest healthy server to improve server response latency. Turn your existing servers into a custom content delivery network with an international footprint.

    geoip content delivery mapping
A content delivery network can also be geolocation aware. Dynamic dns answers are used to point your users at the geolocation designated server for their geographic place of origin. You can easily deliver geotargeted content from single or multiple content distribution servers.

    monitored server failover
edgedirector.com monitors your servers and tailors dns answers automatically to include only servers that are currently available in the defined set. Designated subscriber administrators are automatically notified of outages for corrective action. Once the server is back online, it will again be included in the server pool.

    hardware load balancing compatible
You may designate any ip address as the published endpoint in your dns records. This includes the public interfaces of single or redundant hardware load balancers and caching appliances in your data center. Combine global load balancing with local load balancing for the best server response time and greatest resilience to service interruptions.

These advanced dns based capabilities work together to provide your users with the best service possible. A set of globally distributed geolocation aware servers becomes as easy to manage as a single server and as powerful as any CDN. Imagine a no-compromise CDN custom built for your unique requirements with complete control in your hands.

    Background Objectives

Since its inception 20 years ago, Business Intelligence (BI) has become a huge industrial domain and a major economic driver, however overlooked by academics. It encompasses many scientific and technological fields including data warehouses, data mining, content analytics, business process management, visual analytics, and requires competences in information systems, web science, decision science, software engineering, and innovation and entrepreneurship. The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degre Programme in Information Technologies for Business Intelligence (IT4BI ) is designed to provide understanding, knowledge and skills in this broad scope of fields. Its main objective is to train computer scientists who understand and help develop the strategies of modern enterprise decision makers.

    Presentation Structure

The programme favours the integration of students into a network of specialists and researchers in BI. The curriculum is jointly delivered by Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in Belgium, Université François Rabelais Tours (UFRT) in France, Ecole Centrale Paris (ECP) in France, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Spain, and Technische Universität Berlin (TUB) in Germany. Scholars from academic partners around the world and partners from leading industries in BI, private R D companies, service companies, public research institutes, and public authorities will contribute to the programme by training students, providing computers, software, course material, job placement or internship perspectives, as well as financial support.

This consortium will prepare the graduates not only to answer today s professional challenges by a strong connection with the needs coming from the industry, but also to pursue their studies into doctorate programs, through strong connections with the researchers and innovators views.

IT4BI is a 2-year (4 semesters, 120 ECTS) programme. The first year is devoted to fundamentals: the first semester at ULB, the second one at UFRT. Then, all students participate to the European Business Intelligence Summer School. In the third semester, the programme offers three specialisations at ECP, UPC and TUB and students move to the partner of the chosen specialisation. The fourth semester is dedicated to the master s thesis and can be realised either as a placement in industry, or as an internship in a research laboratory in any full or associated partner. Eventually, all students will be gathered in the final event Business Intelligence: Innovation Meets Research .

The tuition language is English. The programme targets students with a Bachelor of Science (or a level equivalent to 180 ETCS) with major in Computer Science, as well as an English proficiency corresponding to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be awarded with a multiple degree, the national master s degrees from ULB, UFRT and the university of the specialisation.

7 Master Tips for Your Next Business Presentation #what #is #business

    #business presentation

For RNs wishing to have more education and earn higher salaries, an additional two to three years of college education can lead to a Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) degree.

Should I Earn an Accounting Degree?

    Updated November 24, 2016

    What Is an Accounting Degree?

An accounting degree is a type of academic degree awarded to students who have completed an accounting education program at a college, university or business school. Accounting is the study of financial reporting and analysis. Accounting courses vary by school and level of education, but you can almost always expect to take a combination of business, accounting, and general education courses as part of an accounting degree program.

    Types of Accounting Degrees

There is an accounting degree for every level of education. The three most common degrees earned by accounting majors including:

    • Associate Degree – An associate degree is an undergraduate degree that is designed for students with a high school diploma or GED. This degree takes two years to complete and may qualify you for entry-level positions, such as accounting clerk.
    • Bachelor s Degree – A bachelor s degree is an undergraduate degree for students with a high school diploma, GED, or associate degree. This degree takes three to four years of full time-study to complete. You need at least a bachelor s degree to become a certified public accountant.
    • Master s Degree – A master s degree or MBA is a graduate degree for students who have already earned a bachelor degree. Most master s degree programs take two years of full-time study to complete, but there are accelerated MBA programs that can be completed in as little as 11 months. A master s degree or MBA will qualify you for most management positions in the accounting field.

Which Degree Option Is Best for Accounting Majors?

A bachelor s degree is the most common requirement in the field. The federal government, as well as many public and private firms, requires applicants to have at least a bachelor s degree to be considered for most entry-level positions. Some organizations also require special certifications or licenses, such as the Certified Public Accountant designation.

What Can I Do With an Accounting Degree?

Business majors who earn an accounting degree often go on to work as accountant. There are four basic types of accounting professionals:

    • Public Accountants – These accountants may work for non-profit organizations, for-profit organizations, governments, or individuals. Public accountants typically perform accounting, auditing, and tax work. However, they may also provide advice, consulting, or auditing services to their clients.
    • Management Accountants – Sometimes known as private or cost accountants, management accountants record and analyze financial information for their employers. Management accountants sometimes specialize in a particular area, such as cost accounting, financial analysis, or planning and budgeting.
    • Government Accountants – Government accountants can work for federal, state, or local governments. They often maintain revenue and expenditure records. Those who work for the federal government may serve as agents for the Internal Revenue Service. Jobs are also available in areas of financial management, administration, and budget analysis.
    • Internal Auditors – These specialized accountants examine records for the firms they work for to ferret out waste or fraud. They also review operations for efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness.

See a list of other common job titles for accounting grads.

    Top Jobs in Accounting

Accountants who have advanced degrees, such as a master s degree, are often eligible for more advanced career positions than accountants with an associate or bachelor degree. Advanced positions may include supervisor, manager, controller, chief financial officers, or partner. Many experienced accountants also choose to open their own accounting firm.

    Job Outlook for Accounting Majors

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. the job outlook for individuals who specialize in accounting is better than average. This field of business is growing and should stay strong for quite a few years to come. There are plenty of entry-level opportunities, but Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and students with master s degrees have the best prospects.

Masters Degree in Criminal Justice Online

In 1998, the School of Criminal Justice began offering its Masters of Science in Criminal Justice program on the internet – the first online degree program offered by MSU.

The program is designed to add new dimensions to the skills of career people in various areas of criminal justice and security. A number of online support services are available to assist students as they progress through the program.

Students enrolled in the program may choose to follow the general requirements for the Masters in Criminal Justice, specialize in Security Management or Judicial Administration, or follow an international focus. Please see Program Requirements for more information.

Courses are offered entirely online, and are taught by the same faculty members who are involved in the on-campus program. Many students complete the program within a year and a half to two years; however, it is also common for students to take three years to complete the program due to work and personal commitments.

    Application Information

Applications for the Criminal Justice online masters program are screened for summer, fall, and spring semester entry. All application material must be received before February 1 for consideration for the following summer or fall semester and by September 1 for consideration for the following spring semester. Applicants are typically notified of admission decisions within 6-8 weeks of the deadline. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed .

Application materials that may be uploaded include :

    • Application for Graduate Study at Michigan State University. May be submitted online here . The major code for the Criminal Justice Masters program is 4702. After you begin your application, you will receive an email with a login and password. Before paying your application fee, go to Grad Portal and log in. You will be prompted to upload the following documents and request Letters of Recommendation. Please note: If the application fee is paid before you visit the Grad Portal, you will be unable to upload supporting documents or request letters of recommendation.
    • A statement of your academic and professional goals. This should include information about your motivation to study criminal justice, a description of relevant research and/or work experience, and any other information that you would like the admissions committee to know. The Application for Graduate Study has fields for an academic statement and a personal statement, and you may either submit statements there or upload a single combined essay to the Grad Portal.
    • Three letters of recommendation from tenure-track faculty who can comment on your ability to perform graduate work. Please request letters of recommendation through the Grad Portal. You will click on Letters of Recommendation (right side of screen) and then Register Recommender (bottom left side of screen). After you submit the names and email addresses, an email will be automatically generated and sent to them, requesting a letter of recommendation on your behalf and including instructions on uploading the letter.

    Additional required materials include :

Please note: While a criminal justice undergraduate major is not required for admission to the program, the applicant must have a background of education and occupational experience appropriate to the successful pursuit of graduate work. Applicants insufficiently prepared for graduate studies in criminal justice may be required to complete collateral coursework or pursue individualized study.

Applicants must have at least 12 credits of undergraduate coursework in political science, economics, sociology, psychology, anthropology, history, social work, or any combination of such courses. At least six of these credits must be in sociology, psychology, social work or any combination of such courses.

    Program Requirements

What is a typical course like?

Online courses are very similar to the on-campus program except for the method of delivery. Students get a syllabus outlining course requirements, are assigned weekly readings and required to post their evaluation of the readings in discussion rooms. Classmates then comment on the input of other students. Case problems may be required and the class may be broken into small groups, with a team leader who is required to post the each group s solution to the case. Research papers may be required, with an executive summary posted for review by students and a complete paper submitted to the professor. If the topic appears of interest to other students, they may request a copy by contacting the author.

Should I be concerned about taking the GRE since I have been out of school for several years?

Some students express concern about the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and, their scores since they may have been out of college for a number of years. Remember this is only one area considered by the graduate review committee when making admissions decisions. Letters of reference, personal statement, prior grades, and success on the job are other factors considered. GRE practice exams, a list of testing centers. and other information may be found at www.ets.org/gre.

If the course is online, why do I have to order textbooks?

Volumes of written material on the Internet become difficult for students to manage. When supplemented with reading packs or books, students are able to do reading away from the computer. It is also important for students to acquire a professional library.

What university services are available to me?

Library access, a writing center, financial aid, bookstore, and other university resources are available to online students. For example, students may order course books via e-mail from campus bookstores. Books and documents needed for course projects can be obtained from library via e-mail at no cost.

What type of financial aid is available?

Since this is a degree-granting program, veterans benefits may be applicable. Students eligible for veterans benefits must submit the required certificate to the VA Office on campus. Contact the Veterans Certification Office at 517-355-5032.

How many credits can I transfer into the program?

You may transfer up to nine graduate level credits from an accredited institution into the program. You must have received at least a 3.0 in each of the courses, and we will need to review course descriptions and syllabi to determine if the courses meet the requirements of this program. Transfer credits are most often applied toward elective requirements. The department chair or dean has final approval.

    How do I access grades?

Student grades may be obtained at www.stuinfo.msu.edu. along with other academic, personal and financial aid information.

    Master of Accounting (MAcc) Programs

To be licensed as a certified public accountant (CPA) in most states, including Pennsylvania, individuals must complete 150 credit-hours of education. Penn State’s Smeal College of Business offers two options to meet this educational requirement: the Integrated MAcc Program for Smeal accounting majors and the One-Year MAcc Program for students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree at Penn State or elsewhere.

Becoming a CPA opens doors to opportunities not only in accounting firms, but also across the business landscape. A master’s degree in accounting will prepare students to enter careers in public accounting, as well as corporate finance, financial analysis, and law enforcement. Combining graduate accounting coursework with a CPA certificate and any number of undergraduate degree specializations facilitates entry to careers in consulting and advisory services.

    One-Year MAcc Program

The earliest opportunity to apply for the One-Year MAcc Program is in January of the undergraduate junior year. Offers of admission are conditional upon satisfactory completion of remaining undergraduate coursework. The program spans the fall, spring, and summer semesters and culminates with the award of a master’s degree in August.

    Integrated MAcc Program

Smeal students apply for the Integrated MAcc Program early in the spring semester of the sophomore year during the undergraduate major selection period at Smeal. The program begins in the fall semester of the junior year and students graduate in May of the fifth year with both a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Student Testimonials: Smeal Master of Accounting students intern with a number of companies including Deloitte, EY, KPMG, and PwC, among others. Recent MAcc alumni share their internship experiences and how the program equipped them with the knowledge and skills to succeed.
