What s a Green Business?

Triple bottom line company. Mission-based business. Social enterprise social entrepreneurship. Socially responsible investing impact investing. Green business.

Green America s Green Business Standards

Green America awards Green Business Certification to companies and organizations that meet or exceed our standards for social and environmental responsibility.

Green businesses adopt principles, policies and practices that improve the quality of life for their customers, employees, communities, and the planet. The members of the Green Business Network are changing the way America does business. What do green businesses have in common?

Green businesses are socially and environmentally responsible.

Green companies adopt principles and practices that protect people AND the planet. They challenge themselves to bring the goals of social and economic justice, environmental sustainability, as well as community health and development, into all of their activities — from production and supply chain management to employee relations and customer service.

Green businesses care for their workers.

Green businesses ensure they don t use sweatshop or child labor. Everyone who works directly for them or their suppliers earns a living wage and works in healthy conditions. They create jobs that empower workers and honor their humanity. They also serve as models for the role businesses can play in the transformation of our society to one that is socially just and environmentally sustainable.

Green businesses protect their customers and clients.

Green businesses ensure that they use the safest ingredients, to keep their customers and clients and their families healthy. They also provide green living alternatives to improve quality of life, with products and services that help in areas like affordable housing, sustainable agriculture, education, clean energy and efficiency, fair trade, healthy air, clean water, and more. And they reduce, reuse and recycle, setting a good example.

Green businesses improve their communities.

Along with ensuring their facilities aren t polluting their local communities, many green businesses take steps to make the places that they call home better. Green businesses often spring up in marginalized communities—inner cities, rural and indigenous communities. Many are even started by the people in these communities who, in turn, bring respect and dignity to their employees and the wider neighborhood.

    Buying a business – Canada Business Network #short #term #business #loans

    #buying a business

    #

    Buying a business

Buying a business can take time, energy and a fair bit of research. It can be less risky and more affordable to purchase an existing business than to start one from scratch, but it is important that you do your homework to ensure that you buy the right business for you, and that you pay a fair price for it.

    On this page:

Where to find a business to buy

Businesses for sale are often advertised in print media and online, but sometimes business opportunities can be misleading. Make sure to do your due diligence before you take action. Try trade publications or commercial investment magazines, or talk to a broker who specializes in a specific industry. Networking at business events can help get the word out that you are looking to buy.

Find buyers or find a business to buy based on algorithms allowing you to find the best match based on skills and goals.

Looking to buy or sell an existing business in Ontario? Use this online marketplace to find available businesses that match your search criteria.

What kind of business should I buy?

If you buy an existing business, you have two choices: franchise, or traditional (independent) business. There are advantages and disadvantages to both.

    • Proven track record This is an established business with a proven concept; there is less risk and less initial capital required than with starting something brand new. Similarly, when it comes time to sell, you may have an easier time finding prospective buyers for a known entity.
    • Built-in customer base People know what to expect from your business because they know the brand, and trust the product or service.
    • Setup, support and training Having a parent company means having the infrastructure and processes in place, from equipment to uniforms to corporate advertising, rather than having to develop them on your own. Other franchisees can also be a source of support.
    • Set of rules and regulations to follow When you operate a franchise, you have less control over the operations than if you own an independent business; you also have to pay a percentage of your revenues to the parent company, which reduces overall earnings.
    • More control and responsibility You have the autonomy to set your own rules, but the success or failure of the business rests solely on your shoulders.
    • No fees or royalties You keep all of your earnings without sharing any of the profits.
    • More opportunity and risk You can sometimes find a business that may not be doing well but has potential. If you are willing to do the work, you may reap the rewards; you must be prepared if things don t turn out as planned.

    Evaluating a business

Before deciding to buy a business, you should evaluate its condition and potential. Think about the following things:

    • What is the physical location of the business like? Is the office, warehouse, plant or retail space in good shape? What about any equipment or inventory?
    • If it s an online business, how well-designed is the website? Is it secure? Are there any metrics to study?
    • Does the business have a good reputation? You can check online for customer reviews.
    • How visible and easily accessible is the business? Is it located in an urban or rural area? You will have to consider expenses like increased shipping costs if you are farther away from your suppliers and customers.
    • Are the products or services generating revenue? Are sales increasing, decreasing or are they flat?
    • Does the business have a good working relationship with its suppliers and bank?

If a business is doing poorly, examine what the potential causes are. It may be a case of poor management, or inadequate resources. If you think you can turn it around and make it profitable, you could stand to gain from your investment; on the flip side, you are taking a big risk if it doesn t work out.

If a deal seems too good to be true, chances are, it probably is. Learn how to determine what type of business you should buy.

Know your options when buying a business. Consider the pros and cons of each business type, situation and stage.

If you need to know the value of your business, learn about the different approaches to business valuation.

What is a fair price to pay for a business? Read this article to learn how to estimate the value of a business.

Protect yourself when buying a business. This article outlines the steps you need to take before signing on the dotted line.

Determining how much to pay for the business

As a buyer, it all comes down to knowing what you can afford before negotiations start. You should be flexible in your negotiations, but also keep your budget and the value of the business in mind.

What is the value of the business?

    • You will have to determine the value of assets such as the building, equipment and products.
    • Further factors to consider are the business financial statements, annual reports and intellectual property (for example, patents and trade-marks).
    • Other valuable assets to any business are its reputation, customer lists, and quality of personnel.

Talk to clients who buy directly from the business. It is better to find out the reputation of a business before you sign on the dotted line. Banks are more receptive to a business that has a proven track record.

Find out how to access funding for your business.

    Final considerations

    • Take your time and verify all of the information you are given before you commit yourself.
    • Buy a business in an industry you know well and with products or services you are comfortable selling.
    • Buy based on the return on investment and not only the price. You don t want to leave yourself short of funds for future expenses.
    • Investigate suppliers, clients and the reputation of the business before you buy.

If you are buying a business and its inventory and assets, learn about some of the requirements, changing ownership and GST/HST considerations.

“I have been a member of The Business Network Chester from the start and always come away from the seminars and lunches with great new connections, leads and a feeling that I am getting to know the business community in Chester more and more with every visit. At Clatterbridge Cancer Research our approach is very much long term and that suits the ethos of BNC, it’s not about hard sell and more about long term relationships and building up connections. This year Tracy has gone above and beyond and took part in our major fundraising event Come Dancing, as you would expect she gave it 110% and is our reigning champion! Huge thank you to Tracy and Hayley for really making us welcome every month and bringing a real benefit to the team at CCR”

Buy a business or start your own?

Starting a business from scratch can be overwhelming for first-time entrepreneurs. If you have a great business idea and are ready to work hard to build it from the ground up, then you may wish to start your own business. But if you want to hit the ground running and avoid some of the common start-up pitfalls, then buying an existing business or a successful franchise may be a better option for you.

    Starting your own business

    • Complete freedom to design and manage the business according to your vision.
    • Not bound by anyone else s rules, history or assets.
    • Opportunity to carve out a new niche in the market.
    • Can be less expensive than buying a successful business.
    • Can take time to become profitable.
    • There is no guarantee of business success and a high rate of failure for new businesses.
    • Can be more difficult to get financing because lenders or investors are taking a risk with your idea.

Buying an existing business or franchise

    • Benefit from the work that has already been done on building a brand, developing customer relationships, developing business processes and acquiring assets.
    • Can start bringing in profits more quickly.
    • Can be easier to get financing because the business model is proven.
    • The upfront investment is often higher than if you were starting your own business.
    • The previous owner and/or franchisor s business model and way of doing business may not be a perfect match with what you envision.

    Learn more

If you are considering buying a business, these documents will tell you what to watch out for and help guide you through the process.

Green America s Green Business Standards

Network Software Scanner – Free Installed Software Auditing Tool #network #software #scanner,

    #

Free Tool for Auditing Installed Applications in Windows Networks

This software audit tool allows you to remotely collect a list of installed applications and updates from Windows PCs located in a LAN/WAN. The collected information is stored in a centralized database and includes the application name, version, installation date and other fields available in the Programs and Components dialog in Windows. This information can be exported to CSV files and compared with the results of previous scans to audit the changes.

EMCO Network Software Scanner is designed to perform basic software audit operations in local networks. You can use it to extract information about installed software from PCs located in Windows domains and workgroups. All operations with network PCs are performed remotely and invisible for end users. No client installation or special configuration are required to collect software inventory data remotely from network PCs.

How does the software audit process work? You should specify the group of network PCs to be scanned or let the application scan all available PCs in the network. Also, you have to specify the credentials with an administrative access to the remote PCs. That’s all you need to start a scan. When a scan is finished, you can see its results on a screen and export them to a file.

What are the main benefits of the application? It doesn’t use WMI to collect software inventory info, hence it can be used in networks where WMI is disabled. In addition, the application is designed to work in large-scale networks including thousands of PCs.

    EMCO Network Software Scanner Features

The application provides you with basic software inventory features that can help you to audit applications and updates installed on PCs in a local network and export the collected data to prepare software inventory reports according to your needs.

    Installed Applications Audit

The application allows scanning Windows computers in a local network to extract information on applications installed on every PC. The reported information includes the application name, version and vendor, installation date and installation size, as well as other fields displayed in the Windows Programs and Components dialog.

    Software Updates Audit

Information collected from remote PCs also includes a list of installed software updates. Such lists of updates are grouped by applications, so it’s easy to check the history of updates for all applications. The reported information on updates includes the installation date, version, etc. Some software vendors provide a link with information about the applied changes.

    Installed Software Changes Tracking

All information collected during network scans is automatically saved into a database. When the network is scanned next time, the actual software inventory information can be compared with the results of one of the previous scans to detect applications that were installed or uninstalled in the meantime and display them in a special view.

    Software Inventory Data Export

For every scanned PC, you can export the collected software inventory information, including a list of installed applications, updates and software changes, to a file in the CSV format. The Export Wizard allows you to configure the export parameters such as delimiters and encoding. The application exports all collected inventory data, including all fields.

  • What is the name of Windows service of EasyNetMonitor SE?

    The service name is EasyNetMonitorSrv.

  • Which should be settings of host if we would like to send an email after 3 consecutive “lost connection messages”, and then send an email, when the host is available again, but only after its status is “stable” (after 6 “online” messages)?

You can use the the emulator mode in ENM for testing. Emails will be not send and will appear in “Emulator” window only. Create the simple txt file in ENM folder: enm_emu_offline_list.txt .
If your host will be in start of some line of the text in this file – so ENM get “lost connection” message after ping for this host.
For testing is useful to disable ENM monitor on some time and send pings from “Ping now” window for this host only.

The settings in “Options->Email options” window are active for all hosts. If this options are active so will be send log file with info from all hosts. You can not use this options in your case.

  • What is the test (emulator) mode?

This is a test mode for configuring notifications, e-mail messages and actions. Mode is activated if the text file enm_emu_offline_list.txt exists in the program folder. In this mode, the service (or EasyNetMonitor PRO) stops sending the real ping command to all hosts and gets information about “lost connection” hosts from this file. Addresses of this hosts are listed at the beginning of the lines in this file. All other hosts are “online”.

In this mode, the actual e-mails will be not sent and actions will be not started. However, the information that the email should send and the action should run appears in the emulator message box. This emulator message box opens automatically.

The addresses in the file should be at the beginning of the line.
    For example:
    google.com
    cnn.com
    vk.com

This means that hosts google.com, cnn.com, vk.com are “lost connection”.

If the address is not in the beginning of the line, that it is “online”.
    For example:
    google.com
    . cnn.com
    //vk.com

Hosts cnn.com and vk.com are “online”. But there is no connection to google.com.

You can open the file enm_emu_offline_list.txt in the text editor (Notepad), make changes and click “Save file” without closing the editor. If the program is installed in the Program Files, then run editor (Notepad) with administrator rights please.

Please rename or delete this file to stop test (emulator) mode.
It is not necessary to restart the service EasyNetMonitorSrv in EasyNetMonitor SE.

What is network-attached storage (NAS)? Definition from #network #attached #backup

    #

    network-attached storage (NAS)

Network-attached storage (NAS) is a type of dedicated file storage device that provides local-area network local area network (LAN) nodes with file-based shared storage through a standard Ethernet connection.

You also agree that your personal information may be transferred and processed in the United States, and that you have read and agree to the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy .

NAS devices, which typically do not have a keyboard or display, are configured and managed with a browser-based utility program. Each NAS resides on the LAN as an independent network node and has its own IP address .

An important benefit of NAS is its ability to provide multiple clients on the network with access to the same files. Prior to NAS, enterprises typically had hundreds or even thousands of discrete file servers that had to be separately configured and maintained. Today, when more storage capacity is required, NAS appliances can simply be outfitted with larger disks or clustered together to provide both vertical scalability and horizontal scalability. Many NAS vendors partner with cloud storage providers to provide customers with an extra layer of redundancy for backing up files.

    NAS use cases

In the home, NASes are often used for storing and serving multimedia files and for automated backups. Many smart homes rely on NAS to provide centralized storage for smart TVs. security systems and other Internet of Things (IoT) components in the home.

In the enterprise, a NAS array can be used as a backup target for archiving and disaster recovery. If a NAS device has a server mode, it can also function as an email, multimedia, database or print server for a small business. Some higher-end NAS products can hold enough disks to support RAID. a storage technology that turns multiple hard disks into one logical unit in order to provide better performance times, high availability and redundancy .

    NAS product categories

NAS devices are grouped in three broad categories based on the number of drives, drive support, drive capacity and scalability .

High-end or enterprise NAS: The high end of the market is driven by businesses that need to store huge amounts of files, including virtual machine (VM ) images. High-end NAS provides rapid access and NAS clustering capabilities.

Midmarket NAS: This end of the market can accomodate businesses that require several hundred terabytes of data. Midmarket NAS devices cannot be clustered, however, which can create file-system siloes when multiple NAS devices are required.

Low-end ordesktop NAS: The low end of the market is aimed at small businesses and home users who require local shared storage. Increasingly, this market is shifting toward a cloud NAS model.

    NAS deployments for business

The chart below describes five different ways network-attached storage can be deployed and lists the pros and cons for each approach. Each deployment can easily be managed by a single network manager.

    Evolution of NAS

Over time, the baseline functionality of NAS devices has broadened to support virtualization. High-end NAS products may also support data deduplication. flash storage. multiprotocol access and replication.

To combat NAS sprawl, vendors are offering clustered NAS systems. A clustered NAS system is a distributed file system that runs concurrently on multiple NAS nodes. Clustering provides access to all files from any of the clustered nodes regardless of the physical location of the file.

Some NAS devices run a standard operating system (OS ) such as Microsoft Windows. while others may run the vendor’s proprietary operating system. Although the Internet Protocol (IP ) is the most common data transport protocol. some mid-market NAS products may support the Network File System (NFS ), Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX ), NetBIOS Extended User Interface (NetBEUI ) or Common Internet File System (CIFS ) protocols. High-end NAS products may support Gigabit Ethernet (GigE ) for even faster data transfer across the network.

    Traditional NAS vs. scale-out NAS

In a traditional network-attached storage deployment, the NAS head — which is the hardware that performs the NAS control functions — provides access to back-end storage through an Internet connection. Scale-out NAS simply means that the storage administrator has installed larger heads and additional hard disks to boost storage capacity .

    NAS vs. DAS

Direct-attached storage (DAS ) is storage on a dedicated server or storage device that is not networked. In order to access files stored on direct-attached storage, the end user must have physical access to the device where the files are stored. The advantage of DAS is that it can provide end users with better performance than NAS, which is important for compute-intensive software programs. The disadvantage of DAS is that it requires the storage on each device to be managed separately, which can complicate the way files are managed and shared.

    NAS vs. SAN

A storage-area network (SAN) organizes storage resouces on an independent, high-performance network. The key distinction between NAS and SANs is that network-attached storage handles input/output (I/O ) requests for individual files. whereas a storage-area network manages I/O requests for contiguous blocks of data. Today, some SANs can transport data over a standard Ethernet connection, but most often storage area networks use the Fibre Channel protocol, which was developed specifically for high-speed data transport on storage-area networks.

    SAN/NAS convergence

Until recently, technological barriers have kept the file and block storage worlds separate, each in its own management domain and each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Many storage managers view block storage as first class and file storage as economy class. Given the prevalence of business-critical databases housed on storage area networks (SANs), that’s understandable.

Today, vendors are seeking to improve large-scale file storage by drawing these two worlds together with a hybrid SAN/NAS solution that allows companies to consolidate block- and file-based data on the same storage arrays. Companies that are looking to combine SAN and NAS operations have a sometimes bewildering number of choices, including standalone NAS gateways. SAN solutions with integrated NAS functionality and NAS devices that allow block I/O and filer I/O to run within the same set of switches.

    Next Steps

    carol482 – 20 Feb 2015 2:30 PM

With more and more companies, businesses and organizations moving to cloud based storage solutions over network-attached storage, the vendors of the network-attached storage systems have some justified reasons to worry. Much like the “horse whips” became obsolete with the advent of the automobile, the network-attached storage systems are facing obsolescence. It is only a matter of time before the majority of storage is all cloud based. Network-attached vendors need to adapt to this change.

    Rich Castagna – 11 Mar 2015 1:46 PM

It may, indeed, be “a matter of time before the majority of storage is all cloud based” but it’s likely to be a long, long time. There are still significant barriers to storing active data in a cloud storage service, bandwidth not the least of them. That said, I think all traditional storage vendors should be a little nervous about the cloud (and most are, and most are taking some actions). As long as we continue to collect data without discarding any, storage capacity will be an issue. And as data gets older and less useful, cloud storage becomes a more attractive option.

    Margaret Rouse – 17 Sep 2015 9:51 AM

Should network-attached storage vendors be worried about the cloud?

    markmills – 16 Dec 2015 12:58 PM

They are and they should be. Having worked on enterprise NAS for more than a decade it was interesting and challenging to compete in “the NAS war”. For the most part the NAS wars are over, just in time for a paradigm shift – ironic, isn’t it? It’s the migration of compute to the cloud that is at the heart of the matter. NAS is a natural complement to compute and in most environments they don’t exist without each other. So a big concern for enterprise NAS vendors is the shift from on-prem compute to cloud compute. NAS appliances will continue to be cash cows for years to come and they will continue to be critical components in most storage ecosystems. Cloud is definitely crashing the party and will incrementally steal an increasing share of the market as cloud offerings mature and enterprise confidence in cloud grows with it.

10 tips to secure your small business network

Maintaining a secure small business or home network isn’t easy, and even for an old hand in IT, it still takes time and energy to keep things locked down. Here are 10 of the most critical steps you can take to keep your data from ending up elsewhere, and none of them take much time or effort to accomplish.

    1. Use encryption on your wireless access points (AP). Many site surveys have found half or more of all wireless networks are wide open, ripe for anyone to gather all the traffic and perhaps record your sensitive information by sitting in a nearby parked car. Some people mess around with locking down MAC addresses, but that gets unwieldy and a better solution would be to use WPA2 encryption. WPA2 is far better than other encryption methods that are more easily broken into.

    2. If you have a wireless network, make sure to hide your SSID (service set identifier), or at least change its name to something common. All wireless routers should have obscure IDs when they announce themselves to the world. Rather than put in any real information that can make it clear who owns the router or that can divulge your location or business name, such as “Acme Systems, here on the 4th floor” or the product name like “Netgear,” use something innocuous like “wireless” or “router1” that doesn’t give away anything really critical. In my last apartment, I had neighbors who used their apartment numbers for their IDs, making it real easy to figure out who’s router was where.

    3. If your router (wired or wireless) has a Web management interface, disable access from the outside network. And change the admin default password now. Most routers have the ability to do both quite easily. You don’t want anyone else coming in and changing your settings or reading your log files.

    4. Make sure all of your PCs use antivirus software and if you’re using Windows, add antispyware protection. This seems obvious, but it bears restatiing. And while you are at it, check to make sure that all of your antivirus subscriptions are current. Anything out of date isn’t doing you any good. In my support travels, I’ve found that this is a very common lapse among my neighbors.

    5. If you are running a Web server on your LAN, put it on a DMZ. If your router doesn’t have a DMZ, get a new router. Better yet, move to a collocation facility where someone who knows what he is doing can manage it. Having your own local Web server sounds like a good idea, but is a real security sinkhole, and many cable networks have made it harder to host your own from your home network anyway. So why worry?

    6. Speaking of Web servers on the Internet, if you have them, you should scan regularly for exploits. There are many sites that can do this, two of my favorites are SPIdynamics.com and Qualys.com. Also, make sure to keep track of your domain registry and change all of your access passwords regularly. If you update your Web content, don’t use FTP or Microsoft’s Web page creation tool, FrontPage; instead, find more-secure methods that don’t send your access passwords in the clear. You can learn about other ways to protect your Web site at OWASP.org .

    7. If your ISP offers such an option, use a VPN (virtual private network) for access back to your local LAN or your remote Web server. There are many to choose from, ranging from the free OpenVPN.net to inexpensive but capable ones from SonicWall and Fortinet. which are designed for small business owners.

    8. Disable file/print sharing on everything other than your file server. You don’t need it on each desktop, and that just causes more vulnerabilities. This is particularly important for laptop users: You don’t want to be broadcasting your entire file system to everyone around you at the airport or hotel, which is something that I often see when I travel and check for open network shares.

    9. Use whole disk encryption on all laptops that will ever leave home. You never know when someone will steal your data or break into your car or hotel room and lift the laptop. I like PGP Disk. but there are others that cost next to nothing and provide plenty of protection. If you are in the habit of carrying around USB thumb drives with your data, then use one of the more modern U3 drives that work with Windows and are at least password-protected to keep your data away from others.

    10. Start doing regular off-site backups now. At least start with making copies of your key customer and business data, and then make sure you cover your personal files, such as family photos and the like. Now is the time to cook up something simple. Burn DVDs and take them home, or make use of one of the online storage vendors such as eVault and Amazon.com’s S3. They cost less than $100 a year (Amazon’s less than $10 a year) and can save your data in case of fire, theft or just carelessness. If you have two PCs in two different locations, sign up for Microsoft’s Foldershare.com free service to synchronize your data.

Now, there are plenty of other security options that will buy you peace of mind and make it harder for hackers, but these 10 items are easy to implement, don’t cost much in terms of your time and money, and will have big security payoffs. Try to attempt one item each week and you’ll sleep better at night.

Best practices for network security management

This vendor-written tech primer has been edited by Network World to eliminate product promotion, but readers should note it will likely favor the submitter’s approach.

Today’s IT security teams are faced with rapidly mutating threats at every possible point of entry – from the perimeter to the desktop; from mobile to the cloud. Fueled by the fast evolution of the threat landscape and changes in network and security architectures, network security management is far more challenging and complex than just a few years ago.

Security teams must support internal and external compliance mandates, enable new services, optimize performance, ensure availability, and support the ability to troubleshoot efficiently on demand—with no room for error. That’s a lot to balance when managing network security.

Here are four essential best practices for network security management:

#1 Network Security Management Requires a Macro View. Organizations need a holistic view of their network. With disparate vendor devices and hosts, security teams need a normalized, comprehensive view of the network, including: routing rules, access rules, NAT, VPN, etc.; hosts, including all products (and versions), services, vulnerabilities, and patches; and assets, including asset groupings and classifications.

With a comprehensive view of the network, security teams can view hosts in the network, as well as configurations, classifications and other pertinent information. A network map or model is both a useful visualization tool and a diagnostic tool, providing analysis that is only possible when considering an overall view. For example, security and compliance teams can use this macro view to see how data would move between points on the network.

Additionally, it highlights information that is missing, such as hosts, access control list (ACL) data, and more.

Sophisticated analytics can be conducted quickly and accurately in a model-based environment, without disrupting the live network. Access path analysis helps to validate changes and can troubleshoot outages or connectivity issues, enhancing visibility and improving security processes. “What-if” analysis indicates both accessible and blocked destinations for designated data.

#2 Daily Device Management Requires a Micro View. Although the macro view is needed to see how all the pieces of the network fit together, network administrators must also be able to drill down into the details for a particular device, easily accessing information on rules, access policies, and configuration compliance. And this information must be considered within the framework of the broader network, including context such as segments or zones, routing, routers, switches, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and firewalls.

Information must be provided in a digestible fashion. The network components that impact the device will undoubtedly come from various vendors, creating data of different vendor languages that must be deciphered, correlated, and optimized to allow administrators to streamline rule sets. For example, administrators need to be able to block or limit access by application and view violations of these access policies.

Daily or weekly reviews of all devices on the network is unattainable with a manual process, and reviewing device configurations less frequently puts network security and compliance at risk. Automating policy compliance helps ensure compliance and consistency, and preserves IT resources.

Ideally, a network modeling tool that provides a macro view should also allow administrators to drill down into a micro view of each device, providing information on users, applications, vulnerabilities, and more. This allows administrators to see the broader network view and then focus in on particular devices for management.

#3 Simulate Attacks for Context-Aware Risk Assessments. Merely knowing the network vulnerabilities and their criticality is insufficient for understanding the true level of risk to an organization. Today’s attacks often incorporate multiple steps that cross several different network zones, and an isolated view of any of these steps could appear innocuous.

Attack simulation technology automatically looks at the holistic network – business assets, known threats and vulnerabilities – and identifies what would happen if the conditions were combined. Attack simulation can also evaluate potential options to block an attack, providing intelligence for decision support. Understanding the likelihood of an attack and its potential impact against valuable targets is the key to assessing which vulnerabilities and threats post the most risk.

Attack simulation technology looks at network context, asset criticality, business metrics, and existing security controls when determining the impact of a potential attack. For example, if an asset runs an application that is crucial to maintaining the business and requires continuous availability, a medium-level vulnerability that threatens to disable this asset might be a high-level risk to this particular business.

The impact of deploying a particular security control must also be considered. Keeping an IPS continually on active mode can impact network performance. Attack simulation tools enable security teams to target use of their IPS protection, activating only necessary signatures, maximizing performance, and prioritizing vulnerabilities.

#4 Secure Change Management Is Critical. Once a network is in compliance, a secure change management process is needed to maintain continuous compliance and validate that planned changes do not introduce new risk. Secure change management incorporates risk assessment in an orchestrated, standardized process; flags changes outside of this structure, allows administrators to reconcile flagged changes, and troubleshoots where needed. Secure change management verifies that changes were implemented as intended, identifies when a change has unintended consequences, and highlights unapproved changes.

For example, a change management process can flag when a network change will expose vulnerabilities, when a firewall change opens access to risky services, or when there is an unauthorized access path from a partner to an internal zone. More importantly, to maintain network security, change management processes can be used to determine the impact of a proposed change before implementing the change.

Implementing these four best practices for network security management can reduce risk across the network. With visibility on both the network and device level, tremendous amounts of data are translated into intelligence that deciphers complicated network security transactions into manageable, actionable information. With this insight, attack simulation can then prioritize vulnerabilities and eliminate the attack vectors that are most critical to the organization, protecting business services and data. Finally, change management can automate and optimize security processes to improve security and reduce the security management workload.

Skybox Security, Inc.is a provider of automated, non-intrusive tools that detect, prioritize, and drive remediation of critical risks such as exposed vulnerabilities and firewall configuration errors.

Stress management: How to strengthen your social support network #psychosocial #support,,stress #management,

Manage stress: Strengthen your support network

Stress is a normal and unavoidable part of life — but too much stress can affect your emotional and physical wellbeing. According to APA’s 2015 Stress in America survey 1. average stress levels today are slightly higher than they were in 2014. On a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is “a great deal of stress” and one is “little or no stress,” American adults rated their stress level at a 5.1 today, up from 4.9 in 2014. But worrisomely, a significantly greater percentage of adults reported experiencing a stress level of 8 or higher on the 10-point scale. Twenty-four percent of American adults reported this extreme level of stress in 2015, up from 18 percent the previous year.

Emotional support is an important protective factor for dealing with life’s difficulties. The 2015 survey found the average stress level for those with emotional support was 5.0 out of 10, compared to 6.3 for those without such support.

Loneliness has been associated with a wide variety of health problems including high blood pressure, diminished immunity, cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline. 2 In fact, low levels of social support have even been linked to increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases and cancer. 3

The good news is that there are ways to seek out such support, and to nurture your supportive relationships.

    The benefits of social support

As important as social support is, many Americans don’t feel they have access to this valuable resource. When asked if there is someone they can ask for emotional support, such as talking over problems or helping make difficult decisions, 70 percent said yes. However, more than half (55 percent) also said they could have used at least a little more emotional support.

In fact, experts say, almost all of us benefit from social and emotional support. And though it may seem counterintuitive, having strong social support can actually make you more able to cope with problems on your own, by improving your self-esteem and sense of autonomy.

You don’t need a huge network of friends and family to benefit from social support, however. Some people find camaraderie among just a handful of people, be they co-workers, neighbors or friends from their church or religious institution, for instance.

Yet social skills don’t always come naturally. Some people have trouble making social connections. Many others lose established connections due to life changes such as retirement, relocation or the death of a loved one. In any case, it’s possible to forge new connections to reap the benefits of a healthy support network.

    Grow your support network

Cast a wide net. When it comes to your social supports, one size doesn’t fit all. You may not have someone you can confide in about everything — and that’s okay. Maybe you have a colleague you can talk to about problems at work, and a neighbor who lends an ear when you have difficulties with your kids. Look to different relationships for different kinds of support. But remember to look to people you can trust and count on, to avoid disappointing, negative interactions that can make you feel worse.

Be proactive. Often people expect others to reach out to them, and then feel rejected when people don’t go out of their way to do so. To get the most out of your social relationships, you have to make an effort. Make time for friends and family. Reach out to lend a hand or just say hello. If you’re there for others, they’ll be more likely to be there for you. And in fact, when it comes to longevity, research suggests that providing social support to friends and family may be even more important than receiving it. 4

Take advantage of technology. It’s nice to sit down with a friend face-to-face, but it isn’t always possible. Luckily, technology makes it easier than ever before to stay connected with loved ones far away. Write an email, send a text message or make a date for a video chat. Don’t rely too heavily on digital connections, however. Some research suggests that face-to-face interactions are most beneficial.

Follow your interests. Do you like to hike, sing, make jewelry, play tennis, get involved in local politics? You’re more likely to connect with people who like the things you like. Join a club, sign up for a class or take on a volunteer position that will allow you to meet others who share your interests. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t make friends overnight. Try to enjoy the experience as you get to know others over time.

Seek out peer support. If you’re dealing with a specific stressful situation — such as caring for a family member or dealing with a chronic illness — you may not find the support you need from your current network. Consider joining a support group to meet others who are dealing with similar challenges.

Improve your social skills. If you feel awkward in social situations and just don’t know what to say, try asking simple questions about the other person to get the ball rolling. If you’re shy, it can be less intimidating to get to know others over shared activities — such as a bike ride or a knitting class — rather than just hanging out and talking. If you feel particularly anxious in social situations, consider talking to a therapist with experience in social anxiety and social-skills training.

Ask for help. If you lack a strong support network and aren’t sure where to start, there are resources you can turn to. Places of worship, senior and community centers, local libraries, refugee and immigrant groups, neighborhood health clinics and local branches of national organizations such as Catholic Charities or the YMCA/YWCA may be able to help you identify services, support groups and other programs in your community.

    Seek professional help

If you’re feeling stressed and don’t have anyone to rely on, psychologists can help. As experts in human behavior, psychologists can help you develop strategies to manage stress and improve your social skills. Use the APA’s Psychologist Locator Service wbrzdvtwbave to find a psychologist in your area. You can also visit www.mentalhealth.gov. a website of the U.S. Department of Health Human Services that offers resources in English and Spanish.

    SANS Cyber Security Training

SANS cyber security training is an essential element in the development of individuals and teams that are prepared to protect governmental, military, and commercial institutions from cyberattacks.

The SANS Institute is the most trusted, and by far the largest, provider of training, certification, and research to cyber security professionals globally.

    • In 2015, SANS trained over 30,000 people, including professionals from 91% of the Fortune 100, nearly every US government agency involved in our country’s defense against cyberattack, and their counterparts at our most trusted allies in Europe and Asia.
    • Fewer than 75 people are currently qualified to be SANS-Certified Instructors globally. This extraordinary cadre of individuals have been selected through a rigorous process that tests both their expertise in the field *and* their ability to teach effectively. As a group, they author our courses, design our curriculum, and deliver the training in classrooms and online.
    • The 300 employees of the SANS Institute work diligently to enable these instructors to deliver these courses at venues around the world and online, constantly measuring the quality of students’ experience and learning.

The SANS Promise is that students will be able to use what they learn in class the moment they return to their office.

    SANS Cyber Security Courses

Advance your career and explore our cyber security training courses and cyber security training events near you, including our site focused on SANS cyber security training in the UK and Europe. Our curricula span from the core essential technical skills and strategies that every cyber security professional should know, to advanced topics in penetration testing and ethical hacking, digital forensics and incident response, defense of critical infrastructure, application development, and audit, and legal topics.

    GIAC Cyber Security certifications

GIAC (Global Information Assurance Certification) was founded in 1999 to validate the skills of cyber security professionals. The purpose of GIAC is to provide assurance that a certified individual has the knowledge and skills necessary for a practitioner in key areas of computer, information and software security. GIAC certifications are trusted by thousands of companies and government agencies, and are unique because they measure specific skills and knowledge areas rather than general infosec knowledge. Learn more about GIAC’s cyber security certifications at www.giac.org .

    Summer Road Trips

    50 States 50 Burgers

    Mary Hattler – Press Register

    Creek Bank Restaurant, Wagerville, Alabama

Until recently, this roadside eatery didn’t have an address. People relied on word-of-mouth directions to head an hour north of Mobile for one thing: the burger. The seven-ounce chuck patty is nothing fancy, just plain delicious. At first bite, a secret ketchup-mayo sauce drips down the side.
    21711 Hwy. 43, Wagarville; 251-246-9396

    Long Branch Saloon, Anchorage, Alaska

Patties and toppings usually get all the attention, but at this dive bar, the buns push the burgers over the top: The famously light rolls, baked on-site daily, taste like a cross between ciabatta and sourdough — and they never crumble. But fans say the fresh-beef patties are darned tasty too.
    1737 E. Dimond Blvd. Anchorage; 907-349-4142

El Rey De Las Fritas, Miami, Florida

The small Miami chain’s name means “King of the Fried Burgers,” a fair claim: It reportedly has family ties to Havana’s first restaurant specializing in the frita, Cuba’s take on a slider. The thin beef-and-chorizo patties are fried and topped with shoestring fries and a secret tomato-based sauce.
    six locations around Miami; 305-223-9944

    Kuma’s Corner, Chicago, Illinois

When this bar opened, it was all about beer and heavy metal, but soon the burgers (almost all named for bands) got Chicago talking — particularly the Slayer: a bunless patty on a pile of fries, topped with chili, andouille sausage, cherry peppers, onion, cheese and, according to the menu, “anger.”
    2900 W. Belmont Ave. Chicago; 773-604-8769

    Winstead’s, Kentucky

Conventional wisdom says that one should never crush a burger with a spatula, but that technique is exactly what has drawn crowds to this small Midwestern chain for nearly 70 years. Razor-thin patties made from ground steak are seared on a flattop grill until the edges are crisp.
10 locations in Kansas and Missouri; winsteadssteakburger.com

Owls Head General Store, Owls Head, Maine

Owners of this old general store won’t reveal their secret burger-assembly process, but the loosely packed burgers are insanely juicy — they literally fall apart in your hands (yes, they require all seven of those napkins). You can get one to go and eat it at Owls Head lighthouse, just down the road.
    2 S. Shore Dr. Owls Head; 207-596-6038

    Hunter House Hamburgers, Birmingham, Alabama

Everyone in Detroit can tell if you’ve just come from Hunter House: A trip to this throwback burger joint leaves you smelling like grilled onions for the rest of the day. The place sells only one thing: sliders topped with pickles, mustard and tons of grilled onions.
    35075 Woodward Ave. Birmingham; hunterhousehamburgers.com

Vincent – A Restaurant, Minneapolis, Minnesota

For the uninitiated, a Juicy Lucy is a Minneapolis specialty: a burger with a surprise stash of Velveeta in the center. At his white-tablecloth restaurant, chef Vincent Francoual upgrades the sandwich for fancier palates, stuffing Angus beef patties with smoked gouda and braised short ribs.
    1100 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis; vincentarestaurant.com

    Terry’s Turf Club, Cincinnati, Ohio

This raucous bar is full of contradictions — there are peanut shells on the floor, for example, but filet mignon on the menu. And the super-popular burgers come on paper plates, yet the toppings are straight off a fine-dining menu, including foie gras, scallops with lychees, and Iberian ham.
    4618 Eastern Ave. Cincinnati; 513-533-4222

    Johnnie’s Grill, El Reno, Oklahoma

During the Depression, thrifty Oklahomans stretched their meat by making half-beef, half-onion burgers. Johnnie’s is more generous with the meat now, but the tradition lives on: Onions are pressed onto burgers and caramelize as they cook. The thin patties are topped with mustard and a warm bun.
    301 S. Rock Island, El Reno; 405-262-4721

    Chris Ryan 2009 ChrisRyanPhoto.com

    Skyline Restaurant, Portland, Oregon

The burger at this former drive-in overlooking Portland is nothing fancy; it’s just plain good — so delicious that renowned food writer James Beard declared it one of the best he’d ever tasted. The quarter-pounder comes on a buttered, toasted bun with tomato, pickles and mayo.
    1313 N.W. Skyline Blvd. Portland; 503-292-6727

    Kate Kelley KateKelley

    Haven Brothers, Providence, Rhode Island

This place doesn’t exist at lunchtime — the silver trailer pulls up next to City Hall at 5 p.m. daily, as it has since 1893, when it was a horse-drawn cart. Customers line up until 4 a.m. for the double-decker Murder Burger, with chili, cheese, bacon and mushrooms.
Fulton St. and Dorrance St. Providence; 401-861-7777

    The Shopping Bag, Burlington, Vermont

The $5 half-pound burger at this corner grocery — made with Montreal steak seasoning and meat fresh from the butcher counter — was created and named for a police officer who stops in often. When word first got out about it a few years ago, the deli was barely able to keep up with demand.
    166 North St. Burlington

    Ray’s Hell-Burger, Arlington, Virginia

Ray’s has no advertising. There’s no need — the strip-mall spot, marked by a tiny sign, is always mobbed. Regulars don’t mind the lack of fries — they come for serious burgers: beef patties served blackened, with a peppercorn crust, or “Diablo,” doused with chipotle pepper sauce.
    1725 Wilson Blvd. Arlington; 703-841-0001

Put a price tag on your business: A guide to business valuation

If you want to sell all or part of your business, you need to have an idea of its value. This information will help you understand the different approaches to business valuation, but you may want to seek professional guidance and advice. Prospective investors will also assess its value when they consider your proposal.

The process of determining the value is called valuation. You and the buyer or investor need to determine what you feel is an appropriate business valuation because it will be the basis for negotiating:

    • How much of your business the investor or buyer will purchase
    • How much the buyer or investor will pay (the price of the business or of its shares)
    • The return the buyer or investor can expect to earn

    Ways of valuing a business

Valuation is not an exact science, and there are different ways of valuing a business. Each of these methods is based on different assumptions and financial information, which typically results in a different value for each method. For instance, you could base a valuation on the assets of a business (how much it owns) or by taking into account projected revenues or cash flows. Investors generally prefer methods based on cash flows. It s important to know about a variety of methods because they can be useful as benchmarks to check the validity of the value and the price you determine.

    Earnings and cash flow-based methods:

    • Discounted cash flow
    • Going-concern value

    Discounted cash flow

From the investor s perspective, this is usually the most accurate and effective way to estimate a business value because it is based on future cash flows. These cash flow figures reflect the amount of money that is estimated to come into the business and will ultimately determine the investor s return on investment. The discounted cash flow method is used to answer three critical questions:

    • Value: How much is your business worth today, based on what it will earn in the future?
    • Rate of return: What is the buyer s or investor s expected rate of return, given the amount invested and your business financial projections?
    • Equity share: How much equity will the buyer or investor receive for their investment?

The discounted-cash-flow method is often preferred because it can be more accurate than other methods. Its accuracy and complexity are due to the fact that it:

    • Uses cash flows: It takes into account the projected ups and downs of revenue over a period of time.
    • Discounts the cash flows: It adjusts the cash flows by a rate that is acceptable to the investor to account for risk and the time the investor must wait for a return.
    How it works

In this method, cash flow predictions are discounted, or reduced, to adjust for the risk the investor faces and to make up for the fact that the investor could invest their money in something else.

Investors are looking to be compensated for their risk, and their benchmark rate or “discount rate” will adjust for the value of money over time. They will choose a discount rate and compare your proposal against that rate.

    Advantages and disadvantages

The discounted cash flow method allows values to be estimated even when your cash flow is fluctuating. A start-up or new venture may expect to lose money in the first years and then make money in later years. These changes in cash flow are taken into account by the discounted cash flow method.

If you use this method, keep in mind that:

    • Its accuracy depends on the accuracy of your cash flow projections. That is why your financial data and assumptions are critical.
    • It is a complex process, so you may require professional guidance.
    • It can give you detailed estimates, but it is important to remember that business valuation is not an exact science your numbers will be based on assumptions and predictions of future performance.
Value: How much is your business worth today?

Let s say financiers are considering an investment in your business, but plan to take their money out in five years. To them, your business is worth today what it can earn during those five years, plus their share of the value of the business at the end of the five years. However, future cash flow numbers and the future value of the business are unknown. The discounted cash flow method applies adjustments or “discounts” to account for those unknowns.

Using this method, the value is the total of the cash flows, adjusted or discounted, plus the value remaining (or residual value), also discounted.

Rate of return: What rate of return will the investor expect?

Investors want to calculate their rate of return. To do that they must compare the amount of the investment to the amount they will earn at the end of the investment period. But how can they know what they will earn in the future? Again, they must use the discounted cash flow projections to estimate the future value of their investment. To do so, they will need to:

    • Estimate the cash flow in the final year
    • Estimate the value of the business based on the cash flow
    • Calculate the final value of their share in the business
    • Determine their rate of return
    Value, return and exit strategy

The method used to calculate values and rates of return depends on the specific exit strategy used. Commonly-used methods include going-concern value, book value, and liquidation value.

    Going-concern value

The going-concern value method calculates your business value based on its capacity to produce a stream of cash flow in the future. The greater the cash flow your business generates in the future, the higher your business value today.

    How it works

The going concern value, like discounted cash flow, compares the current investment to the future receipts (cash inflows). This method uses the revenues of previous years to project future revenues, and it assumes those revenues will not change.

    Book Value

This value is the net worth, or shareholders equity, of your business as shown in its financial statements. At its most simplified, subtracting your liabilities from your assets will give you your business net worth or book value. Book value can be described as the historical value of an asset that, at a given time (the day it was purchased), represented the economic or market value of the asset, less its accumulated depreciation.

    How it works

To determine the book value, subtract your liabilities from the value of your assets. The difference gives you your net worth or shareholders equity. In practice, book value is seldom used in the process of securing venture capital, although it can be a realistic approach to measuring a small business net worth.

    Liquidation value

A liquidation value is assigned to a business being sold in order to satisfy its creditors. Tangible assets, such as land, usually have a liquidation value close to their market value. Inventories and accounts receivable, on the other hand, are usually valued at less than what is shown in the books.

    How it works

To determine the liquidation value, all assets are assigned distressed values, and all debts are totalled at book value. Most assets sold under duress are discounted from their fair market value. The difference between the distressed value of the assets and the actual or book value of the liabilities is referred to as the liquidation value.

The liquidation value doesn t reflect the real worth of an asset or a business; in most cases, it is substantially less than the market and book values. This method is typically used only if a business is in serious financial trouble.

Should I seek a financial advisor for help with valuation?

Business valuation is a complex task, and a financial advisor with experience in business valuation can be an invaluable asset.

    A professional valuator can:

    • Provide the experience needed to accurately determine the value of your business
    • Offer an objective view of your business worth
    • Give investors more confidence in the credibility of your valuation

    Conclusion

There is a saying in the venture capital industry: “The value of a business is only what someone is willing to pay for it.” In other words, the market, and your ability to attract investors and negotiate with them will determine the value or selling price.

Remember that many factors affect the value of your business. Seeking professional assistance can help you calculate an accurate value for your business.

2017 DISH Network Review, Satellite Internet, dish network satellite location.#Dish #network #satellite

    #

    DISH Network Review

DISH Network’s satellite internet is a great option for anyone with an interest in bundling services, but its download speeds are slightly below the competition.

    Latest Update November 13, 2015

    The Good

Big Discount for Bundling With TV

When you bundle your satellite internet with DISH Network TV, you can save $10 per month. Choose from any of DISH Network s internet packages, and even add on phone service as well. When you bundle these packages together, you also have the added convenience of receiving a single monthly bill for all of these services. DISH Network also waives its satellite internet activation fee should you choose to bundle your internet and TV, resulting in even more savings for you. This could be a great option for anyone who already has or is interested in DISH Network s other services.

    Excellent Customer Support

DISH Network makes it easy to get your problems solved by offering a variety of support channels that you can use to contact the company. Live chat and phone support are going to be most effective for getting immediate assistance, and both of these services are available 24/7. The satellite internet provider also has Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter pages where customers can reach out, along with the usual email support. If your question or issue is technical in nature, DISH Network provides several useful articles to help you fix the problem without having to contact a support representative.

    Great Upload Rate

DISH Network offers the fastest upload speed of any satellite internet provider at 10 Mbps. Now, many people may not upload to the internet that frequently, so the satellite internet s upload rate likely is not as important as the download rate. However, DISH Network s upload speed definitely is appreciated by anyone who frequently uploads photos or videos to the internet.

    The Bad

    Low Data Limits

Even with DISH Network s best satellite internet plan, you still only get a limited amount of data that you can use at any time, which could be a serious problem for some, because if you use all of that data before the month is up, you must either pay extra to buy more data or have your internet speed significantly reduced. DISH does include bonus data in with its satellite internet plan as well, but this may only be used between 2 AM and 8 AM. While running into your data limit may not be a concern for occasional internet users, it could be a huge problem for those who use it frequently.

    Can’t Order Online

DISH Network does not allow you to order your satellite internet service online and instead requires you to call a support representative. Many people may be a little annoyed by this because they would probably prefer to handle the ordering process themselves rather than having to contact customer support. Still, this is more of an inconvenience than a deal breaker.

FAQ: What is the difference between LAN IP address and WAN IP

    #

What is the difference between LAN IP address and WAN IP address of a network device?

    Answer

A network device, i.e. network/LAN adapter, modem, router, access point, can have a single IP address (either LAN or WAN IP address) or two IP addresses (both LAN and WAN IP addresses). To clarify this point, I would like to depict three Internet access scenarios as follows:

    1) A computer connects to Internet via an internal/external modem that has no router functionality.

    – This computer IP address is similar with the modem IP address, i.e. a WAN IP address (public IP address) which is assigned by the ISP, such as 194.223.19.212.

    2) A computer connects to Internet via an external modem that has router functionality.

    – This computer (i.e. the network adapter that connects it to the modem) will have a LAN IP address (private IP address) such as 192.168.1.2.

    – Meanwhile the modem will have a LAN IP address (private gateway IP address) such as 192.168.1.1 toward the connected computers and a WAN IP address (public IP address) toward the ISP.

    3) A computer connects to Internet via a wired/wireless router which in turn connects to Internet via a broadband (DSL/cable/3G/3.5G/4G) modem.

    – This computer (i.e. the network adapter (Ethernet/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth) that connects it to the modem) will get a LAN IP address (private IP address) such as 192.168.2.3.

    – The router will have a LAN IP address (private gateway IP address) such as 192.168.2.1 and a WAN IP address (also a private IP address) such as 192.168.1.2.

    – The broadband modem which borders the LAN (home/company/organization network) with the WAN (Internet) will have a LAN IP address (private gateway IP address) such as 192.168.1.1 and a WAN IP address (public IP address) toward the ISP.

The breakdown on configuration number 2 or 3 above also applies if this computer is an ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) client that connects to Internet via an ICS host because the ICS host acts as a router.

You can check your computer IP address and find out which network card or adapter that connects you to the Internet by typing ipconfig /all on the Command Prompt. To check your modem or router LAN and WAN IP addresses, you can type its pre-defined address on a browser (IE, Mozilla Firefox, Chrome, etc.) address bar, e.g. http://192.168.1.1 and see the connection details usually on a Home/Status page.

If I could give zero stars I would. I cancelled my dish service on October 10th – I was paid up until October 17th (She tried to get me to keep the service until I said cancel over 11 times). The woman I spoke with said it was going to be a 10 and some change charge to send me boxes so I could return my equipment or I d be charged full price for my equipment. I said, no I m not paying for boxes to be shipped to me. Then I said, how much of a credit will I get for the remaining 7 days since I was canceling and not actually GETTING a service from you that I ve already pre-paid for.

She tells me, there is no credit. I already paid the amount and I m not using your service, why should I pay for what I m not getting? So after going back and forth with her and her talking to her supervisor like 20 times – she agreed to charge me for my boxes and then give me a credit and also give me a $15.00 credit for the service I had not used. I thought it was solved.

I never did receive my boxes after 1 week (she said they d be there in 3 days) so I called back on day 5 and the woman I spoke with that time tells me the boxes were never shipped out to me. She will initiate the shipment. I say, I will not pay for the shipping, she said, no charge was initiated. And I said, I still want my credit that the first person promised me. Now she has to ask her supervisor. So this is now person 4 that I had to deal with. They both say, no charge on boxes, and yes $15 credit on your checking account.

So now on day 7, I go in an look at my checking account and a 10.41 charge was taken out of my checking. So I call back now the 3rd time, demand to speak with a supervisor immediately – I will not do the go back and forth, I want to directly talk to a supervisor. Then the supervisor says, yes, I ll put back the 10.41 and then I say I want my $15.00 credit too for my unused service (at this point, it s more about the principle of the issue) and he said, I credited you $20.00 I said, no. I want the 10.41 PLUS 15.00 so that s 25.41 – also I want a confirmation number. He says, there is not one and that it s in the notes. I told him I will call back if I don t see it in my checking account so he better make sure it s in the notes.

This story will continue but the moral of it, is that I will never be back to Dish, no matter how good of a deal. I will tell everyone I know in person, and on social media as well, to not go to this company. Right now, I ve got an antenna and am paying 9$ a month for Netflix and we previously purchased an amazon fire stick. Total cost to cut the cord completely was about $175, the price of one Dish bill.

I no longer have NFL network that was my most favorite channel on dish network that was the whole reason I had dish network and now I don t have NFL network and is really really making me very upset. Y all need to solve this problem fast. I want my NFL network by ASAP.if he is not back within days I will switch to a different user and I have been with y all for years.

I have been trying to get service at my home in Sioux, Detroit, Mi 48224. However, due to my daughter having a 4 year old bill I can t get service at my home. Problems is your representatives keep lying to me and my daughter. The rep asked me to pay the bill of $346.00 and I could have service, yet another rep told my daughter that the bill is over $456.00.That s not right for your company to abuse customers. I can be contacted to discuss this matter further. Also, I waited on hold for 20 minutes to speak to a supervisor because your reps are very rude and unprofessional.

    RF Planning

Take the Guesswork Out of Wi-Fi Network Planning

Accurate network planning is one of the most critical steps in a successful Wi-Fi deployment, as poor planning can result in spotty coverage, unhappy users, and over-spending on infrastructure.

ZonePlanner is ideal for designing and estimating the scope of Wi-Fi networks before the first wireless access point is installed.

With ZonePlanner, network managers can more easily and accurately plan, design, deploy and manage Ruckus Smart WLAN networks in any indoor environment.

ZonePlanner integrates directional, high-gain antenna patterns derived from BeamFlex, the Ruckus-patented and award-winning smart antenna array, and combines them with AirMagnet s industry-leading planning tool.

Unlike other Wi-Fi access points on the market that use omni-directional dipole antennas to blindly radiate Wi-Fi energy in all directions, each Ruckus access point integrates a high-gain directional smart antenna array that constantly focuses and directs Wi-Fi energy over the best performing signal paths to increase throughput and channel capacity while also significantly improving reliability and range.

By combining these state-of-the-art RF controls with powerful new planning tools, designing a world-class wireless LAN has never been easier.

ZonePlanner Features Complete 802.11a/b/g/n/ac support with Ruckus APs 3D signal strength view Simple creation of coverage maps Ultra simple user interface Custom Ruckus beamforming antenna array patterns Manual or automatic AP placement with “advisor tool” WLAN throughput estimation Distance measurements Different coverage views Channel interference view Bill-of-Materials reporting Multi-platform (Windows/MAC) support ZonePlanner Benefits Make migration decisions to 802.11ac much easier and faster for existing legacy network environments Easily model WLAN changes, upgrades and roaming boundaries Properly size new wireless deployments for any environment or location Design networks before any physical AP roll-out begins Predict and optimize WLAN network performance Simplify estimating for wireless network deployments Build detailed indoor RF models based on building materials and environment Automate WLAN installation plans including all Ruckus AP deployment and configuration options Model any antenna and preview the impact to your WLAN Ensure complete RF signal coverage while minimizing signal leak into unsecured areas

The first receiver on your account is considered your primary receiver, and is included for free if it is a standard definition receiver, or DVR receiver (Models 311 / 322. 512 / 625. respectively).

    Second and Third Receiver Upgrades

A note about HD requirements in relation to the Flex 24

In some areas DISH Network will only allow accounts to be created with High Definition (HD) equipment. This is usually desirable for new customers, however a Flex 24 customer may not want to pay the additional fees associated with upgrading to an HD receiver. While DISH requiring HD equipment on a new account for a Flex 24 customer is rare, it is possible. This possibility cannot be known until one of our representatives have qualified you for service.

7 Tips for Network Marketing Success

You probably have an image firmly planted in your mind of what network marketing (also known as direct sales or multilevel marketing) is all about–housewives buying and selling Tupperware while gossiping and eating finger sandwiches, or a high-pressure salesperson trying to convince you how easily you can become a millionaire if only you and your friends and their friends and so on would buy and sell vitamins with him.

Both of these images couldn t be further from the reality of network marketing. It s neither a hobby nor a get-rich-scheme but an opportunity for you to earn money running your own part- or full-time business.

But what does it take to succeed in this industry? Vincent J. Kellsey, director of member services for the Direct Selling Women s Alliance. an organization that provides a variety of resources to women and men in the direct-selling industry, offers these tips for making it:

Choose wisely. There are six key elements you should be looking for [when selecting an opportunity]. Number one: stability. How old is the company? Number two is excellent products or services that consumers will use and need more of.

Number three is the pay plan–how even and fair and generous overall is the distribution? This is really crucial as the pay plan represents exactly how you ll get paid–or not get paid. There are really only two questions to ask [regarding this]: How many pennies out of each sales dollar get paid back to the distributors each month, and how fair is the distribution of these pennies between the old members and the new members?

Number four is the integrity of the company and the management. As much as possible, [investigate] the experience of the CEO, [their] experience in the network marketing industry, and their background. [Have] they been successful in other companies in the industry? Do they have a good reputation?

Number five is momentum and timing. Look at where the company s at, what s going on with the company, and if it s growing.

Number six is support, training and business systems. You may have [chosen] a great company with excellent management, products that make a difference, a pay plan that s uniquely fair and very generous, and momentum and stability, but if you don t have a system in place that works, all of that [doesn t matter]. Most companies will have a transferable training system that they use, and that s where mentorship comes in.

Practice what they teach. [To succeed,] you need to be willing to listen and learn from mentors. The way this industry is structured, it s in the best interests of the [MLM veterans in your company] to help you succeed, so they re willing to teach you the system. Whatever [your mentor] did to become successful, it s very duplicatible, but you have to be willing to listen and be taught and follow those systems.

The higher-ups. It can be called various things, but the general term is the upline, meaning the people above you. How supportive are they? Do they call you? Do they help you put a plan in place? Are they as committed to your success as they are to their own? You should be able to relate to [the people in your upline] and be able to call them at any time to say I need some help. How much support there is from the people above you in the company is very important.

Take up the lead with your downline. There s a term in the network marketing industry called orphans –when somebody is brought in and then the person who brought them in is just so busy bringing in other people that they don t spend the time to teach and train [the new person]. You should be prepared to spend at least 30 days helping a new person come into the industry–training them, supporting them and holding their hand until they feel confident to be able to go off on their own. You really need to ask yourself, are you willing to do that? Are you able to do that? This is really about long-term relationship building. It s not about just bringing people into the business and just moving forward. It s about working with these people and helping them to develop relationships.

On the net. People are utilizing [the internet] as their main marketing tool. [You can set up your site] with autoresponders so when you capture leads, the autoresponder can follow up with that person. One of the greatest keys to success in this industry is follow-up. Many people will have someone call them who s interested or they ll call the person and say they re interested, but then they don t follow up with it. Automation on the internet has allowed a much more consistent method of following up.

The only drawback with the internet is people who utilize it to spam. If there was one thing I could put forward to say, Do not do when utilizing the internet as a marketing tool, it s spamming because that can give a very bad reputation not only to you but also to the company you re working with.

Taking care of business. This is a business, and just like if you were running a franchise or a storefront, you [should have an] accountant. You have all the same write-offs tax-wise that you have with running a [full-time] business, so it s very important to [do your research] prior to getting involved, before you start making money from it. How is that going to affect you tax-wise? What are your write-offs?

It s important to set up a [support] team around you. I d suggest seeking out lawyers who deal in network marketing, so they re very versed in all the laws and how that affects [your business.]. There are also accountants who specialize in dealing with homebased businesses specifically in the direct-selling industry.

Don t quit your day job. yet. Never leave your full-time position unless you re absolutely certain that the income that s coming in with this company is going to be there. [Be sure that] you ve been with the company [for awhile] and that you know it s a stable company, and the income that you re earning is equal to or greater than the income you re earning from your job before quitting.
