Real Life Survival Game 3rd World Farmer

Rating. 7.8 / 10 – 22031 votes

3rd World Farmer is a serious-thought-provoking online game and business strategy simulation activity for high school teens and college students where you have to manage an impoverished farm in a dried out desert area of Sub-Saharan Africa. This is an exceptional survival role-playing game online, and gives you a striking, first-hand insight into extreme rural poverty, and the hardships and challenges faced by the millions of starving, struggling farmers and families of developing nations. In 3rd World Farmer, you have to make tough moral and survival decisions in order to provide for your underprivileged family, while enduring droughts, disease, poverty, corruption and war. How ethical will you be when you desperately need to pay your rapidly-ailing family’s food and medical bills? Will you accept virtual money to survive in return for storing chemical waste, and even housing terrorists?

The Deal: Your proactive mission is to help the head of the family turn this small farm in a developing nation into a commercial success. You must carefully budget and decide which crops to grow each year to sustain your family, and grow. There are several crops to choose from (corn, wheat, cotton and peanuts), and some prove more risky than others, providing potentially large earnings or huge losses. Make enough profit to invest in the necessary tools such as ploughs, harvesters and tractors to improve your crop yields. Increase your capital by investing wisely in essential buildings such as sheds, wells and barns. But remember, all investments have associated risks; wells can dry up, barns can be destroyed, and livestock may be stolen. Remember also Do not become too greedy! You must first prioritize your family’s health, or they may weaken, and be struck down by a deadly disease!

How to Play: Each year you must decide which crops to grow on your restricted budget. Use your computer mouse to select and buy crops, livestock, tools and buildings. Left click in the upper left corner of the game screen, and then drag and place the crops in your field. Left click your mouse again on a family member in the center of the screen to administer medicine and other options. When you have bought all your items for the season, click the “Right Arrow” in the top right corner of the screen to forward your circumstances one year in time. You then receive an annual report of how your farm has performed.

To succeed, you need to display good business acumen and strategic thinking skills to help ensure that your family, farm and community is safe and prosperous into the future. Carefully strategize and invest in “Communications” to coordinate sales with other farmers, “Infrastructure” for easier access to markets and “Crop Insurance” to give your family an income when your crops fail. Support a local “School” and “Clinic” for improved health and education services in your area. Donate to a local “Politician” who genuinely works for peace, health and prosperity for all. This will help benefit the long term well-being of the entire nation. When you have succeeded in purchasing the six above mentioned items, you win. Good luck with your new farming venture and survival challenge!

Tour Guide

Those lucky enough to live in a tourist hotspot could start a business as a weekend tour guide. Walking tours are all the rage, and lend themselves to unique themes. Bike around historic districts, and learn the hidden stories in cobbled streets and family businesses. But before you start collecting fees, talk to your city tourism department about leading tours. No doubt they’d be happy to give you permission to promote tourism in the area, and may even help you plan lucrative routes. Once you’ve become established, consider compiling your expertise into podcasts or guidebooks, or even investing your profits in a fleet of Segways. Segway tours typically charge $60 or more per person.

Farmer’s Markets

Demand for local food is in full swing. Take advantage of the local food craze by starting a business selling at farmer’s markets. Visit your local farmer’s market and talk to the Market Master: she can tell you what’s overdone (tomatoes) and what’s in demand (honey, perhaps). Spend a few hours during the week preparing your wares, and sell all day on Saturday, Sunday or both. This business idea can require some advance work, but the benefits are rich. Build relationships with customers and bring them pleasure with your crisp green beans or heavenly baked goods. This piece on Ideas for Rural Businesses here on Bright Hub can get you started. For the skinny on selling on Farmer’s Markets, see my other article called How to Sell at Farmer’s Markets .

Want to start a small weekend business that you can run out of your home, investing as much – or as little – time and money as possible? Check out these weekend business ideas.

Freelance Writer

Everyone is an expert at something. If you’re a good writer, translate your passion into a weekend business by writing freelance content for websites, travel agencies, entrepreneurs and more. Develop a specialty, like writing business plans or How-To guides, and network with local businesses and organizations to provide high-quality copy. If there’s not much in your area, search Craiglist and other sites that list online freelance writing jobs. Freelance writers can work from home and set their own hours, but it’s up to you to market your skills and keep up a steady stream of work. Beginning pay is low until you build up a quality portfolio of work.

Teach DIY Skills

Handy with a power saw? There’s a DIY novice who would pay to learn your skill. Demand is especially high around all those independent women who would love to learn how to fix their own leaky faucets without calling their dad. See if you can rent a woodwork classroom at a school or community college, or set up more informal classes in your own garage. Organize workshops around themes: putting up shelves and pictures, plumbing problems, and painting tips. DIY classes can be a satisfying weekend business idea.

Home Staging

Weekend entrepreneurs with a flair for interior design can start a business as a professional home stager. Every real estate agent has ’em: those undeniably ugly houses with screaming pink walls, hairy rugs and retro furniture straight out of the ’70s. Talk to your local real estate companies about hiring yourself out as a weekend home stager. Paint the walls a neutral color, tear down those hideous drapes, and improve the look of the home. Network with furniture stores to rent tasteful living room ensembles, and display their logo in return. This could be a time-consuming business, but getting those unsellable homes out of the real estate agent’s hands can lead to rich rewards. A commission of $800 to $1000 is reasonable.

Weekend Musician/DJ

Avid guitarist or drummer? Always current with the hottest musical trends? Starting a weekend business as a musician or DJ might be right for you. Local bars are always looking for live talent, especially if you charge a low fee or tips only to get your foot in the door. DJs are needed for weddings and middle school dances. Including setup and tear-down, gigs usually run anywhere from three to seven hours for a night.

Green House Cleaning

Many household cleansers contain toxic ingredients. These ingredients leach into the environment and contaminate the water we drink. Moreover, their harsh chemicals can spark allergic reactions in children and adults alike. There’s new interest in cleaning households with green products, ranging from baking soda and vinegar to commercially sold cleansers food in natural food stores like Whole Foods. Why not start a weekend business as a green house cleaning service? Market your business to an upscale clientele who will pay for the coveted “organic” label. What’s more, they’ll boast to their friends about their green credentials, and those referrals will boost your profit margin. If you’re into the green movement but not into doing other people’s dirty work, check out this article for more green business ideas .

Set-Up Fee

The service set-up fee is a charge that customers need to cover for the installation of a certain service. In the field of web hosting services, the lack of a set-up fee is one of the key factors that customers take into account when choosing their host .

What is a service set-up fee

The provision of almost any kind of service by a manufacturer usually incurs two basic fees for the customer – a service fee and a set-up fee. For instance, if you order sun blinds for your house, you will be charged one time the value of the blinds and afterwards – a fee for their installation at your place.

Web hosting set-up fee

In the field of Internet services, and web hosting service. in particular, it is also normal to talk about two basic start-up fees for the customer, despite the specific, virtual nature of the offered services. Just like regular distributors of physical goods, web hosting companies have two types of expenses – for covering the cost of the server resources they offer in their web hosting plans and the cost of configuring the hosting plans themselves and packing them with lots of extra services for customers’ convenience.

Why a set-up fee?

In the language of web hosting, the set-up fee refers exactly to the initial fee charged by a host to set up a customer’s web hosting account for a certain period of time – usually a month or a year. It is a one-time fee that is required of the customer at sign- up. This is due to the specific nature of the web hosting services, allowing for instant account activation. Since the host invests many resources and efforts in configuring various plan setups and setting up each newly ordered account in real time – the set-up fee is required as a guarantee that the investments made are worthwhile.

How to get a no set-up fee hosting service

In contrast to the regular service set-up pricing in the web hosting sphere, the plans offered by NTC Hosting do not include any set up fees. Our administrators have optimized the service configuration process to cut off our plan set-up expenses, and thus minimize your hosting service costs, respectively. This way, we have managed to configure set-up-fee-free plans, also coming with a money-back guarantee and not locking you into any long-term contract with our company. All this makes using our services a completely trouble- and risk-free experience.

Life Insurance With No Medical Exam

Normally, if you’re applying for life insurance you are required to submit to a medical examination with regards to issues that may affect your insurance rates. For instance, you may be liable to pay more for life insurance if, during the medical exam, a doctor finds that you have a condition that indicates that you should be in a higher risk category.

Heart problems, high cholesterol or a history of strokes are some examples of issues that might put you in a higher risk category. For many individuals seeking relief from constant worries about their health, no exam life insurance is the perfect choice.

Who else might benefit from a no exam life insurance plan?

    • Those who need immediate coverage
    • Individuals suffering from health conditions, such as cancer
    • Senior citizens

    Pre-existing Conditions

Many life insurance companies charge exorbitant fees if you have what they call a pre-existing condition which puts you in a higher risk bracket. Life insurance companies want to make more money off of you than you give them in the long term, so if they expect your death to be a drain on their company’s finances in the near future, they want you to have paid in as much as possible. Life insurance with no medical exams provides the perfect solution for individuals who would have to pay a huge amount of money for a traditional term or permanent life insurance plan. It may even be possible to get whole life insurance without a medical exam .

Of course, you have to compare the monthly rates of each. Generally no exam life insurance is more expensive than the average life insurance plan and it offers the same services. However, it’s more of a one-size-fits-all insurance plan, making it a great choice for people who do have “pre-existing conditions” like a heart condition or who are significantly older. If this describes you, a traditional life insurance plan may ask for higher rates than a no exam insurance plan

Enhanced Privacy With No Medical Exam Life Insurance

Another benefit of purchasing life insurance with no medical exam is that you can keep your medical information private. Many of us feel a little bit leery that our private information is being viewed by some insurance executive or technician in a suit with nothing but dollars on the brain.

We’d like to know that information about our bodies is kept between ourselves and trusted physicians and doctors. Additionally, no exam life insurance is great for people who don’t enjoy doctors’ offices, needles or exams. They’re simpler, they are processed much more quickly, and they leave your family with more money to help with funeral expenses.

How to Start a Business With (Almost) No Money

You re excited to start a business. Maybe you have an idea, or you re just fascinated with the idea of launching and growing your own enterprise. You re willing to take some risks, like leaving your current job or going without personal revenue for a while. But there s one logistical hurdle stopping you. You don t have much money.

On the surface, this seems like a major problem, but a lack of personal capital shouldn t stop you from pursuing your dreams. In fact, it s entirely possible to start and grow a business with almost no personal financial investment whatsoever — if you know what you re doing.

    Why a business needs money

First, let s take a look at why a business needs money in the first place. There s no uniform startup fee for building a business, so different businesses will have different needs. It s important to first estimate how much you need before you start finding alternative methods to fund your company.

    Consider the following uses:

    • Licenses and permits. Depending on your region, you may need special paperwork and registry to operate.
    • Supplies. Are you buying raw materials? Do you need computers and/or other devices?
    • Equipment. Do you need specialized machinery or software?
    • Office space. This is a huge expense, and you can t neglect things like Internet and utilities costs.
    • Associations, subscriptions, memberships. What publications and affiliations will you subsribe to every month?
    • Operating expenses. Dig into the nooks and crannies here, and don t forget about marketing .
    • Legal fees. Are you consulting a lawyer throughout your business-development process?
    • Employees and contractors. If you can t do it alone, you ll need people on your payroll.

With that said, you have two main paths of starting a business with less money: lowering your costs or increasing your available capital from outside sources. You have three options here:

    Option one: Reduce your needs

Your first option is to change your business model to demand fewer needs as listed above. For example, if you were planning on starting a company of personal trainers, you could reduce your employee expenses by being the sole employee at the start. Unless you need office space, you can work from home. You can even do your homework to find cheaper sources of supplies, or cut out entire product lines that are too expensive to produce at the outset.

There are a few expenses that you won t be able to avoid, however. Licensing and legal fees will set you back even if you cut back on everything else. According to the SBA, many microbusinesses get started on less than $3,000. and home-based franchises can be started for as little as $1,000.

    Option two: Bootstrap

Your second option invokes the idea of a warmup period for your business. Instead of going straight into full-fledged business mode, you ll start with just the basics. You might launch a blog and one niche service, reducing your scope, your audience and your profit, in order to get a head-start. If you can start as a self-employed individual, you ll avoid some of the biggest initial costs (and enjoy a simpler tax situation, too ).

Once you start realizing some revenue, you can invest in yourself, and build the business you imagined piece by piece, rather than all at once.

    Option three: Outsource

Your third option is all about getting funding from outside sources. I ve covered the world of startup funding in a number of different pieces. so I won t get into much detail, but know there are dozens of potential ways to raise capital — even if you don t have much yourself. Here are just a few potential sources for you:

    • Friends and family. Don t rule out the possibility of getting help from friends and family, even if you have to piece the capital together from multiple sources.
    • Angel investors. Angel investors are wealthy individuals who back business ideas early in their generation. They typically invest in exchange for partial ownership of the company, which is a sacrifice worth considering.
    • Venture capitalists. Venture capitalists are like angel investors, but are typically partnerships or organizations and tend to scout businesses that are already in existence.
    • Crowdfunding. It s popular for a reason: with a good idea and enough work, you can attract funding for anything.
    • Government grants and loans. The Small Business Administration (and a number of state and local government agencies) exist solely to help small businesses grow. Many offer loans and grants to help you get started.
    • Bank loans. You can always open a line of credit with the bank if your credit is in good standing.

With one or more of these three options, you should be able to reduce your personal financial investment to almost nothing. You may have to make some other sacrifices, such as starting small, accommodating partners or taking on debt, but if you believe in your business idea. none of these losses should stand in your way. Capital is a major hurdle to overcome, but make no mistake — it can be overcome.

    Cards for Bad Credit

    Credit card offers no interest

When looking to get a credit card, there are a variety of things you should consider. If you want a rewards card to use frequently, you might not mind paying a $100 or $200 annual fee. You should also consider the regular APR (as opposed to the introductory rate) and the interest rate. A good interest rate is dependent on how you will use the card. For example, a 20% interest rate is fine if you plan on paying off the balance every month.

It pays to ask these kinds of questions before you fill out the application form. Here are 9 questions you want answered before you sign on the dotted line.

The “very first question” the consumer should ask is, “Why am I applying for this card? Why do I need this card?” says Bruce McClary, media director for ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions, a nonprofit affiliated with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling

Some positive reasons: The card has low or no fees, a lower interest rate or offers a rewards program that suits your spending habits. “It has to make sense, and it has to fit into your overall lifestyle,” McClary says.

Do you pay off your credit card balances every month? If so, “you don’t care what the interest rate is because you won’t pay any,” says Ric Edelman, author of “The Truth About Money.” “But you care about the (annual) fee,” he says.

If you run a balance, you want the lowest rate you can get, even if that comes with an annual fee.

One clue to your usage: “Look at your past history,” says Edelman. “Because what you’ve done before is what you will be doing.”

If you’re shopping for a card, chances are you’re comparing card terms. But if an issuer sends you an offer, it’s tempting to apply and see what you get.

“It’s really difficult to pick one (in isolation),” says Kelly Rogers, chief development officer for the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Orange County and adjunct faculty at Chapman University. “If someone just shows you one car, how do you know if it’s the right car for you?”

Her advice: Do a side-by-side comparison of several different cards before you apply.

Don’t be afraid to plug the card name, “complaints” and “customer service” into your favorite search engine. “I go through and see who has the least amount of complaints and issues,” says Rogers.

Some cards will give you a range of rates you could get, but often that window is pretty wide, says Nick Bourke, director of the Safe Credit Card Project at The Pew Charitable Trusts. Other cards may offer a specific rate (or terms) and either approve or reject you.

If you’re operating totally in the dark, you have another option: Apply by phone and push for an answer on your rate and credit line before the account is opened.

While there are no guarantees, sometimes you can get an answer, says Bourke.

“I’ve actually done this myself,” he says, admitting “you do have to go pretty far in the process.”

You may have to ask for the department that’s actually evaluating your application to get an answer, he says.

“The thing that you want to do is when you’re talking to the person on the phone taking your application is you want to push them as hard as you can to get your APR and credit line,” Bourke says. Then, once you have the information and before the account is opened in your name, “you can say yes or no at that point,” he says.

According to the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009, if a card offers a lower interest rate during an introductory period, the promotional rate has to last at least six months. While that introductory offer may be appealing, the regular rate is what you’re really buying.

So find out when the introductory APR expires and what the new rate will be. You can find this information online in the terms and conditions for the card or you can ask a service representative.

Another smart question: How long is that grace period? “Some cards start charging interest immediately,” says Edelman. A card can have different grace periods for balance transfers and cash advances than it does for purchases.

You can find information about the grace period in the credit card offer, thanks to federal rules that took effect in 2010. Look for a summary table of rate and fee disclosures, which will include a statement that explains how to avoid paying interest.

If you’re getting the card for points or rewards, this is one you definitely need to ask, says Josh Frank, senior researcher with the Center for Responsible Lending. Some issuers will revoke rewards if you’re late with a payment by even one day, he says.

“A lot of times, the answer they will give you is that they can take away or reduce your rewards for any reason,” he says. While that’s true, the issuer will have a policy on revoking or reducing points, and that’s what you want to ask about, he says. Under what specific circumstances would they reduce or eliminate a customer’s points?

In most cases, “this is one the customer service agent should know the answer to,” he says.

Some card issuers use your purchase records to assess your ongoing creditworthiness.

That means if you suddenly use your card to purchase retread tires, pay for a session with a marriage counselor or make a purchase at a market on a sketchy side of town, you could see your APR climb or your credit limit fall, says Frank. If you see this practice as an invasion of privacy, ask beforehand if the issuer does this, he says.

How to phrase it: Can my transactions ever be used in rating my credit risk?

And that’s one question the customer service representative “might not know the answer to,” says Frank. “You might want to ask them to transfer you to the credit department manager.”

If you are guaranteeing a card account by co-signing for a college student, ask if you will be on the hook for the debt after the other party turns 21, says Chi Chi Wu, staff attorney for the National Consumer Law Center.

Many times, “there is nothing to prevent the issuers from saying you’re going to be guaranteeing this card 15 years from now — long after junior is out of college,” she says.

In addition, find out exactly what has to be done to get you off the account. Are you free to complete those steps yourself? Or will you need the cooperation of someone who might not want you — and those charging privileges — to go away?

Federal regulations limit your liability for unauthorized credit card charges to $50 if you report it within two business days. The longer you wait, the more you may lose. Many issuers cap losses at zero dollars, provided you follow a few rules. So find out how the card would handle charges you didn’t make, says McClary.

Also, does the issuer monitor usage and shut down the card if it sees out-of-the-ordinary charges or spending locations? That feature can be great if you always use the card for the same types of purchases in the same geographic area, but cumbersome if you’re getting the card for travel.

While it sounds counterproductive, you want to ask some detailed questions on how the issuer will treat you if you run into financial problems, says McClary.

Will you lose points or benefits? Will you be hit with late fees or a penalty rate? Ask what those penalties are or look online at the terms and conditions for the card.

Some issuers have programs to slash interest temporarily for customers who get behind, he says. Others don’t. So find out ahead of time what kind of programs the issuer offers that will help you rehabilitate your account and restore your original terms, McClary says.

Ask about the “worst case scenario,” he says. “When do they consider an account to be charged off? And when do they send an account to a collection agency?”

“It may be a little tough to get a hold of that information because it might not be readily available at the customer service level,” says McClary. “You may have to punch it up a level.”

How to Prepare for a Health Insurance Physical: 11 Steps #no #med

How to Prepare for a Health Insurance Physical

Stop smoking. If you can go three months without tobacco, you will legally be considered a non-smoker. This can bump you into a lower premium rate. Work on quitting smoking in the months leading up to your health insurance exam.

    • Urine tests can detect tobacco in the system, so make sure you do not use chewing tobacco, a nicotine patch, or nicotine gum in the months leading up to the exam. [1]
    • Talk to your family and friends about wanting to quit. You can seek support online, through Narcotics Anonymous meetings, reading materials, and other outside resources. Quitting tobacco can be very difficult due to its highly addictive nature and strong physical withdrawal symptoms. You’ll need a lot of support throughout the process. [2]
    • Do not lie about your nicotine habits. Many people feel they can simply lie about their smoking habits and downplay how much they use cigarettes. To do so constitutes fraud and can lead to you being bumped off an insurance plan. [3]

Change your diet. Cutting back on certain foods while incorporating others into your diet can help with blood test results. Try to eat a healthier diet in the months leading up to your exam. This can result in better cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and heart rate which can all result in a lower premium for you.

    • Strive for a healthy diet high in fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy, whole grains, and lean meats. Avoid sugar, processed foods, and fast foods in preparation for your exam. You want your body as healthy as possible. [4]
    • Avocados can be particularly helpful in preparation for an exam. They’re high in monounsaturated fat, which is a heart healthy fat your body needs, and can result in your HDL cholesterol levels going up. HDL is often referred to as “good cholesterol” because it promotes strong overall health. [5]
    • Limit salt intake, as this can cause weight retention and a spike in blood pressure. [6]

Limit alcohol and caffeine consumption. Coffee and alcohol can both affect your numbers during blood work. It’s best to cut out alcohol and limit caffeine intake in the weeks leading up to your exam.

    • Alcohol can affect the liver, an important bodily organ. Liver function is generally tested during a health insurance exam. Binge drinking the days before tests are conducted can skew numbers. If your blood work shows no alcohol in your system, this is also a plus. Heavy drinkers are prone to a number of health problems so insurance companies are likely to offer lower rates to those who don’t drink or who drink in moderation. [7]
    • While coffee and caffeine are unlikely to cause major health problems, caffeine intake can cause a temporary spike in blood pressure. Work on cutting back on caffeine in the months leading up to your exam so you have no problem forgoing the morning cup of joe before your appointment. [8]

Lose weight. Even a small weight loss of 5 or 10 pounds can put you in a lower insurance bracket. Strive to take off some weight. Aim for a loss of 1 or 2 pounds a week in the months leading up to your exam can help.

    • Healthy weight loss requires a combination of moderate physical activity and calorie restriction. Reduce your caloric intake by about 500 calories a day and aim to engage in moderate aerobic activities, like running or jogging, for 30 to 40 minutes a day at least 3 times a week. [9]
    • Do not opt for fasts or crash diets, as the weight you’ll lose will be mostly water weight. It will come back on quickly and your metabolism can be affected by yo-yo dieting. [10]

Dress light. Heavier clothing can add a few pounds to the scale. While this might not seem like a big deal, a 2 or 3 pound difference could you put you in a higher health bracket and result in higher premiums. Wear lighter clothing, and make sure to wear garments with sleeves that can easily roll up. You’ll have to do so to get your blood pressure taken and to get blood drawn. [14]

Stay calm while getting your blood pressure taken. If you’re nervous while getting blood pressure taken, this can affect results. Try to stay calm in the waiting room as your vitals are usually the first thing a nurse or doctor will take.

    • If the hospital allows, see if your blood pressure can be taken after the exam itself. You may be feeling calmer then, especially if you’re afraid of needles or other aspects of a doctor’s office. [15]
    • Find ways to relax in the exam room while waiting to have your blood pressure taken. Practice deep breathing exercises, call a friend, read a book, or do a relaxing activity like a crossword puzzle. [16]
    • Deep, soothing breaths can also help. Breathing in through your nose and taking air down into your abdomen can lower your heart rate and blood pressure. [17]

Stand up straight when your height and weight are taken. Weight/height charts often determine insurance premiums. Slouching can cause you to lose half an inch or more when your height is taken, affecting how much it’s appropriate for you to weigh. Stand up as straight as possible when doctors take your height so you can get an accurate measurement. [18]

Credit card interest could be waived for longstanding debt – BBC News

    #

Credit card interest ‘could be waived’ for longstanding debt

Credit card firms must do more to help millions of customers unable to clear debt, the financial regulator has said.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published proposals that could mean credit card companies cancelling any interest or charges in extreme cases.

Firms would have to work more closely with people in debt, such as drawing up a faster repayment plan.

One debt charity said the plans failed to deal with credit cards becoming dangerous, long-term debt.

The UK Cards Association, which represents credit card companies, said the plans required “careful consideration”.

The regulator defines someone as being in credit card debt if they have paid more in interest and charges than they have repaid of their borrowing over an 18-month period.

The FCA says that “customers in persistent debt are profitable for credit card firms, who do not routinely intervene to help them”. It estimates that 3.3 million people are in persistent debt.

    ‘Real difficulties’

The plan is designed to prevent spiralling debt as experienced by computer engineer Jon Pearson, who built up debts of £35,000.

The 34-year-old, who got his first credit card at the age of 18, said it was his “own stupidity” that gave him confidence to transfer his growing debts between different cards.

“I was getting tens of thousands of pounds of [credit limit] increases without any real investigation into what I was doing and how my repayments were working out,” he said.

“I never paid off any more than the interest every month and I was still able to get increases in credit on any card that I had.”

    The proposals mean:

    • After 18 months: Firms should prompt customers to make faster repayments, if they can afford it
    • After three years: Providers must propose a repayment plan to help clear debt more quickly
    • If a customer still cannot afford to repay the main debt more quickly, firms should consider reducing, waiving or cancelling any interest or charges

Mr Bailey, of the FCA, said: “Persistent debt can be very expensive – costing customers on average around £2.50 [in interest and charges] for every £1 repaid – and can obscure underlying financial problems. Because these customers remain profitable, firms have few incentives to intervene.

“We want to change this situation so that firms and customers will deal with outstanding debt more quickly, and avoid persistent debt in the first place.”

The FCA said it expected the measures to lead to savings for customers from lower interest payments as a result of faster repayment.

“By 2030 we expect that the savings to customers would reach a total of between £3bn and £13bn, depending on how firms and customers respond,” it said.

Credit card firms and other interested parties have until July to respond.

    Speeding up credit card debt?

    • A customer who borrows £3,000 on a credit card with an APR of 19%, and only makes minimum repayments – starting at £74 per month and reducing over time – would typically take 27 years and seven months to pay it off (assuming there is no further spending on the card). The interest paid would be £4,192
    • If the customer fixed their repayments at £74 per month rather than only making minimum repayments, they would pay it off in five years and two months. The interest paid would be £1,576
    • If they set their monthly repayment at £108 per month, they would pay their balance off in three years. The interest paid would be £879

    Not far enough?

Richard Koch, head of policy at the UK Cards Association, said it welcomed the FCA proposals.

“While the FCA’s original report found that the credit card market works well for most people, we are not complacent and the industry remains committed to helping the minority of cardholders who do not use a credit card in a way which is in their best interest,” he said.

There have been concerns expressed over the personal debt levels in the UK. The latest figures from the Bank of England suggest that the annual pace of growth in credit card debt is at its fastest since February 2006.

Mike O’Connor, chief executive of the debt charity StepChange said it feared the proposals did not go far enough.

“Credit card debts remain the biggest single category of problem debt for our clients, with average debts of over £8,000,” he said.

“We welcome moves to tackle persistent debt, but we are concerned that these proposals will not fix the central issue that credit cards, which are supposed to be a short-term form of borrowing, often become long-term and expensive debt.”

To download files and torrents with privacy, security, and anonymity, we highly recommend that you use a VPN with FrostWire.

We tested out many VPN providers, and our top recommendation is ExpressVPN.

How do I use ExpressVPN with FrostWire?

ExpressVPN is quick to set up and simple to use. If you can use FrostWire, you can use ExpressVPN. Here’s how:

    • 1. Sign up for an ExpressVPN account.
    • 2. Use ExpressVPN’s Speed Test and connect to the server location with the fastest speeds.
    • 3. Use FrostWire with privacy, security, and peace of mind!

Why is ExpressVPN the best VPN for downloading?

ExpressVPN protects your privacy and anonymity:

    • VPN kill switch. ExpressVPN’s kill switch stops Internet traffic from entering and leaving your Windows or Mac computer if you’re disconnected from the VPN.
    • Zero logs. ExpressVPN has a strict no-logging policy.
    • Pay with Bitcoin. ExpressVPN accepts PayPal, Bitcoin, credit cards, and many other payment methods.
    • Apps for all devices. ExpressVPN has apps for Windows, Mac, Android, Linux, iOS, and routers.

ExpressVPN gives you blazing-fast download speeds, unlimited bandwidth, and unrestricted access:

    • Speed test. ExpressVPN’s Speed Test helps you identify the optimal VPN server location for the best download speeds.
    • Massive network of VPN servers. ExpressVPN has thousands of servers in 87 countries.
    • Unlimited bandwidth. ExpressVPN does not restrict bandwidth so you can download as much as you want.
    • Bypass filters and firewalls. ExpressVPN helps you punch through firewalls so you can download anything, no matter where you are.

ExpressVPN wants to keep customers (like us!) happy:

    • 24/7 Live Chat Support. ExpressVPN’s friendly support staff is there around the clock to help you with any of your problems. (Even at 4:00 a.m.!)
    • 30-day money-back guarantee. If you are not happy with ExpressVPN, they’ll give you a full refund, no questions asked.

Why do I need a VPN when I download files?

A VPN (virtual private network) helps you go online with privacy, anonymity, security, and freedom by creating an encrypted tunnel between your computer or device and the Internet.

A VPN proxies you Internet traffic so you can disguise you IP address and location, bypass content filters and firewalls, and hide your Internet traffic from your ISP, government, and anyone else trying to snoop on what you’re doing.

What happens if I download files without a VPN?

If you don’t use a VPN when you download files.

    • The websites you visit can uniquely identify you using your IP address and location information.
    • Your ISP and government can monitor what websites and services you’re using online.

If you’re concerned about your privacy and anonymity when you download files, get a VPN.

    No Valid Insurance #no #insurance, #no #mot, #no #licence, #driving #offence, #driving

    #

No Insurance, No Mot or No Driving Licence?

Driving without a Valid Driving Licence

Under s 87(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is an offence to drive a vehicle without a license appropriate to a vehicle of that class or to drive a vehicle on a provisional license unless accompanied by an appropriate person and displaying L Plates on your vehicle.

For holders of a provisional license an appropriate person is a full license holder who is over the age of 21 and has held a full driving license for at least three years.

If a driver is convicted of driving without a license then they will almost inevitably incur between three and six penalty points and can be fined up to 1000. The courts also have the power, exercised on a discretionary basis, to disqualify such a driver from holding or obtaining a license for a period of time.

Driving a vehicle without an appropriate license will almost inevitably render any insurance policy held for that vehicle invalid and those charged with driving with driving without a license will almost inevitably face charges of driving without insurance (see separate subject heading). The insurance policy in question should however be closely scrutinised so as to ascertain whether it allows the policy holder to grant permission to drive to a person Who holds or has held a driving license . If such a clause exists then it will not necessarily follow that a person convicted of driving without a license will be convicted of using a car without a valid insurance policy.

    Driving without Insurance

Under s143 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is an offence to use (or permit to be used) a motor vehicle on a road or other public place when there is not in force in relation to the use of the vehicle such a policy of insurance in respect of third party risks as complies with the Road Traffic Act.

If you are found guilty of an offence under this section then you will face a penalty of between six to eight penalty points and a fine of up to 5000. Courts in Scotland also possess the power, yet again exercised on a discretionary basis, to disqualify drivers from holding or obtaining or license.

It is important to note that the concept of use is an extremely wide one and that it is not necessary for an accused person to actually drive a car for them to be deemed as using it . A car could be stationary in a public place or parked on a public road and if there is no valid policy of insurance then an offence is committed.

In addition it should be noted that this offence is a strict liability offence which means that, regardless of what a driver believed the situation to be, if they are unable to prove that a valid policy of insurance was in place they will be guilty of an offence.

There is however a defence available to this charge if an employee drives in the course of their employment having been led to believe by his/her employer (and owner of the vehicle in question) that insurance was in place. This is a statutory defence which means that it is for the accused person to prove that it applies on the balance of probabilities.

Even where no defence is available it is also possible for the court to decide that Special Reasons (See separate subject heading) apply and to refrain from the imposition of penalty points for this offence even though an accused person is technically guilty. Such a situation may arise where a person has driven in the mistaken belief that insurance was in place only to find that, due to circumstances beyond their control, it has not been put in place or has been unexpectedly cancelled.
It is also worthy of note that an essential component of this offence is that the vehicle be found in a public place or road and that there is an abundance of case law on what amounts to a public place or a road . It is therefore very much in an accused person s interests to seek legal advice at an early stage.

Often, an individual who has never before been prosecuted under section 143 will be offered an alternative to prosecution in the form of a fixed penalty of 200 and six penalty points. If such an individual does not qualify for a special reasons argument then strong consideration should be given to accepting such a penalty. Failure to do so could result in a substantially greater fine being imposed.

Causing or permitting use of vehicle without insurance
If you cause or permit someone to use your vehicle without insurance you will be liable to prosecution and penalisation in the same way as if you had driven the vehicle yourself.

This situation can easily arise where one lends a vehicle to a friend or family member only to later discover that that person was not insured.

The onus is on you as the owner of the vehicle to take all reasonable steps to ensure that insurance is in place when you let another person drive your vehicle.

    Driving without a valid MOT

Section 47 (1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 states that it is an offence for anyone to drive, or allow or cause to be driven, a vehicle which requires, but does not have, a valid Ministry of Transport test certificate.

An offence under this section does not bring with it the imposition of penalty points or the risk of disqualification but does carry with it the risk of a substantial financial penalty.

Section 47(2) provides that the vehicles to which this rule applies are those registered over three years ago, or:

Those which, having a date of manufacture not less than three years before that time, have been used on roads (whether in Great Britain or elsewhere) before being registered

Moreover, certain classes of vehicle require to be tested after one year. These are:

    (a) A motor vehicle used for the carriage of passengers and with more than eight seats, excluding the drivers seat, or

There are two main statutory defences to a charge under this section. These require to be established by an accused person on the balance of probabilities and are as follows:

    (a) That you were taking the vehicle to an MOT testing station for the purposes of having a test carried out at the time at which you were stopped. Essential to the proof of this defence is establishing that a previous arrangement existed with the testing station with regards to the testing of your vehicle on that day and a defence witness from the testing station should ideally be brought along to confirm this.

    (b) That the vehicle has only been brought into the United Kingdom temporarily and has an appropriate registration mark for the company from which it came.

    Tennessee Car Accident Lawyer #free #consultation #800.705.2121 #the #higgins #law #firm #fights

    Tennessee Car Accident Lawyer

Generally, a hit and run in Tennessee happens when a driver is involved with either another car or a pedestrian and they leave the scene of the accident without saying who they are, giving any type of information about themselves, or rendering any type of aid or help to someone. They will normally cause an accident and leave the scene.

If you have been injured in a hit and run accident and are looking for legal representation, it is crucial to contact a Nashville, Tennessee car accident lawyer immediately. An experienced attorney will be able to build a case to help recover any damages you may be entitled to.

    Fact Patterns of an Accident

In a hit and run accident, a lot of times the reason someone runs is that they are guilty of something. They may not have insurance, so they run because they know under the law of Tennessee, all mobile drivers should carry insurance. Or, they may be intoxicated, which an individual also knows under the laws of Tennessee a person cannot drive while a person is under the influence of alcohol or a drug.

Further, they may have just realized that they have caused a serious accident and they have the urge to flee. These are the types of fact patterns a Tennessee car accident lawyer has seen around hit and run accidents. An individual is leaving because they have a guilty conscience about either causing the accident, not being able to pay for it, or because they are driving under the influence.

Hit and Run vs. General Accident Cases

In hit and run cases, a Nashville, Tennessee car accident attorney is usually dealing with a client who is upset because somebody has hit their car and flees the scene, not knowing if they were injured. There are always a lot of personal feelings involved in such accidents, but from a legal standpoint, an attorney will have to first see if they can identify who that person was, if anyone recorded a license plate, if there a witness to the accident, et cetera.

If the individual cannot be identified, a Nashville, Tennessee car accident lawyer will try to prove an uninsured or under-insured motorist case, to show that the individual was an alleged victim of a hit and run, and therefore should be entitled an uninsured motorist claim.

In a hit-and-run accident case, a person is going to be able to recover economic damages, non-economic damages, and often punitive damages. Economic damages will be anything from the cost of repair to the individual s car, lost wages, and a person s pain and suffering. Pain and suffering is a non-economic damage.

The last type of damages a Nashville, Tennessee car accident lawyer will recover is punitive damages. This goes back to the hit-and-run driver leaving the client at the scene of the accident. A Tennessee car accident lawyer will ask the jury for damages to punish them for acting that way.

In Tennessee, a person can get punitive damages or exemplary damages from someone who behaves recklessly or criminally. It is a crime to cause an accident and leave the scene, so a person can ask a jury for civil damages or monetary damages to punish that person and to deter other similar actions.

    Contacting an Attorney

An experienced Nashville, Tennessee car accident attorney will increase the value of the case where there is a settlement value or the value of the case at trial.

They will want to be able to put the accident claim together efficiently, so they will reconstruct how the accident occurred and why the other person is at fault, preserve evidence such as photographs of the scene and witness statements, advise the client through the process on matters like whether or not they should give a recorded statement, and then put the evidence together about the damages to present it to a jury.

Contact us online immediately, especially in a hit-and-run case. Witnesses leave, people’s memories fade, and a person should hire a Tennessee car accident lawyer quickly so that they can preserve all that evidence. Other steps that a person should complete after being injured in a hit-and-run accident would be to file a police report, get any witness info in the area, take pictures of their car, the scene, and any other vehicles that may have been involved in the accident.
