Solar Water Heaters

Solar water heaters come in a wide variety of designs, all including a collector and storage tank, and all using the sun’s thermal energy to heat water. Solar water heaters are typically described according to the type of collector and the circulation system.

At least half of the energy generated by the “qualifying property” must come from the sun. The system must be certified by the Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC) or a comparable entity endorsed by the government of the state in which the property is installed.

Note: The credit is not available for expenses for swimming pools or hot tubs. The water must be used in the dwelling.

Photovoltaic systems must provide electricity for the residence, and must meet applicable fire and electical code requirements.

Tax Credit includes installation costs.

Perseus House Enhanced Residential Treatment Facility (RTF)

In the fall of 2001, the Erie County Office of Mental Health and Mental Retardation through the Resource Collaborative identified over 24 Erie County adolescent males who during the previous 12 months did not have their needs met in traditional RTF settings. All of the adolescents were seriously emotionally disturbed and presented with difficult behaviors.

All of these adolescents were placed in numerous out of home settings without successful outcomes and are the type of adolescents that this program is intended to serve.

As a community, it was determined that providing more of the same services will not meet the needs of these youth; a new and innovative approach is required. An approach that has the capability to treat youth in need of enhanced RTF services. Perseus House stepped up to provide this need. The intensity of our mental health treatment far exceeds what current RTF’s are able to provide. In both approach and degree, an intensive staffing pattern immerses each young man in a new world experience toward the development of a new self/world view. This will be accomplished through an integrated program with a focus on treatment for seriously emotionally disturbed adolescent males.

Individual Therapy in conjunction with weekly psychiatric care is the cornerstone of the therapeutic process. It is precisely these high-risk young men that society cannot afford to let fall below the “radar screen.” This program also serves as a constant reminder of their need to connect to their broader community in ways that reinforce those qualities that are right with them, and will discourage attention paid to chronic negative views of self. In addition to a wide array of behavioral and psychiatric interventions, this will also be accomplished through individual therapy provided every evening for one half hour. This treatment approach provides the adolescent with a one-on-one opportunity to engage in therapy to process daily experiences that will lead to more adaptive thoughts, feelings and behavior. It is our belief that this commitment to challenge these young men at this point in their lives will yield successful citizens in the future.

Entry Requirements

Applicants will possess a minimum 2:2 honours primary degree (National Qualifications Authority of Ireland ) in a relevant discipline (for example human resource management; work and organisational psychology; business management). However, applicants with cognate backgrounds (where they have studied at least some of the following subjects in their undergraduate degrees – management, organisational behaviour, employment relations, industrial relations, employment law, individual psychology, social psychology, learning, conflict management, strategy) will also be considered. An interview (face-to-face, or via telephone/skype) will normally form part of the application process. Applicants who do not meet the minimum primary degree requirement may be considered on the basis of relevant professional experience in the field of human resource management, industrial relations, training and development, employment policy, or related field.
