Money to Start or Expand a Small Business

Loan for small business

Right off the top. The U.S. government does not currently provide direct grants to individuals for starting or expanding a small business. However, the government does offer plenty of free help in planning how to start or improve your business and in securing low-interest SBA-backed small business loans. In addition, many states DO offer small business grants to individuals.

SBA does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses. SBA s grant programs generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments in an effort to expand and enhance small business technical and financial assistance. — Source: SBA

The SBA is the U.S. Small Business Administration. Since 1953, the SBA has helped thousands of Americans start small businesses. Today. SBA offices in every state, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico assist with planning, financing, training and advocacy for small firms. In addition, the SBA works with thousands of lending, educational and training institutions nationwide.\

Can the SBA help you?

If your business is or will be independently owned and operated, not dominant in its field, and meets the maximum business size standards required, then yes, the SBA can help you. Here s how:

Federal Government Contracting Resources

Small businesses sell billions of dollars worth of goods and services to the US federal government every year. Many government agencies require that some percentage of their contracts for goods and services be awarded to small businesses.

Here you will find the resources you need to help your small business become established as a federal contractor, find business opportunities, and the rules and regulations that federal contractors need to follow.

Government Resources for Women-owned Businesses

According to the Census Bureau, women-owned nearly 30 percent of all nonfarm businesses in the United States in 2002, when the nearly 6.5 million women-owned businesses generated more than $940 billion in revenue, up 15 percent from 1997.

Here you will find information on US government programs that help women entrepreneurs start, grow and expand their businesses.

Finding State-Based Small Business Grants and Funding Hot Prospects

Small business financing incentives are an important part of every state s economic growth plan. Some states even offer small business grants. Other small business incentives could include subsidized rates on SBA loans, tax breaks and participation in business incubator programs.

Small Business Lending Fund (SBLF)

The SBLF will ultimately provide up to $30 billion to small community banks to be used for making small business loans. The dividend rate a community bank pays on SBLF funding is reduced as that bank increases its lending to small businesses — providing a strong incentive for new lending to small businesses so they can expand and create jobs.

State Small Business Credit Initiative

In the tradition of the best sources of funding for small businesses coming from state governments, the new State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) – a component of the Small Business Jobs Act – will strive to generate at least $15 billion in locally-available small business loan programs intended to help small business grow and create new jobs.

Small Business Health Care Tax Credit

The health care reform law – the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act – provides an immediate small business tax credit to help small businesses afford health insurance coverage for their employees.

Government Small Business Loans, loan for small business.#Loan #for #small #business

Government Small Business Loans

Government small business loans help put your own business within reach. First there’s the quest for a decent location, then comes building a customer base, followed by all the initial hiccups of generating a cash flow before your business grows roots and gains momentum. The beginning of a business is crucial because it’s when you gain or lose market credibility. If you disappoint your customers, they may not give you a second chance. If your business gets off to a rocky start (most do), and you believe you can recover but need further financing to make this happen, you can apply for government small business loans.

For-profit lenders are reluctant to issue loans to anyone who does not have a strong credit report and financial history. That is not the case with government small business loans. Obviously, a decent credit report is important, and you will have to follow the guidelines regarding the repayment period and the interest rate set by the government, but usually the interest rates charged by government loans are lower than those you could expect in the private sector.

More about Government Small Business Loans

Government loans are typically offered through banks and credit unions that partner with the Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBA is a U.S. government body, with the motive of providing support for small businesses and entrepreneurs. For each loan authorized, a government-backed guarantee offers serious credibility, since the lender knows that even if you default, the government will pay off the balance. These loans can be applied to a number of uses, such as:

  • Purchase of new equipment, machinery, parts, supplies, etc.
  • Financing leasehold improvements
  • Commercial mortgage on buildings
  • Refinance existing debt
  • Establishing a line of credit

Government small business loans benefit both small businesses and the lending agency. For small businesses, it is beneficial because this is money capital they may not have access too. For banks, the loan’s risk is decreased due to the loan being backed by the SBA.

Different SBA Government Loans

The SBA extends financial help through various lending programs it has to offer. Some of the more popular loans are:

  • 7(a) Loan Guarantee Program: aimed primarily in helping a small business start or expand its services. The maximum size of such a loan is $5 million.
  • MicroLoan Program: mostly used for short-term purposes, such as purchase of goods, office furniture, transportation, computers, etc. The maximum amount is fixed at $50,000.
  • 504 Fixed Asset Program: featuring fixed-rate and long-term financing, these loans are aimed at applicants whose business model will benefit their community directly, either by providing jobs or bringing needed services to an underserved area. Again, the maximum amount is $5 million.
  • Disaster Assistance: under this program, loans are sanctioned to renters or homeowners with a low-interest, long-term plan for the restoration of property to its pre-disaster condition.

In most cases, maintaining a good business credit report is enough to qualify. In addition, it instills confidence not only in the lender, but also in you. There is at least one SBA office in every state in America. If you contact them regarding the startup status of your business model and plan, you can get started on a government small business loan that will give you the financing to make your dreams a reality.

The Business grants and funding available to UK small businesses, government grants

Government Grants

The government grants section has a wealth of articles and advice on how UK small businesses can get a grant from both the public and private sector, along with helpful guides on the different types of business grants and funding available to business owners starting and running a business.

A small business grants guide for 2017

Here, Peter Fleming takes a look at a range of options for funding your business through grants this year.

There are many European and UK-wide government business grant schemes; there are also local business funding schemes provided through Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) or through local authorities and organisations such as the Chambers of Commerce. However there were 512 registered schemes at the last count! So a good place to start your research is on the government website.

Business grants are available at a local and national level and usually sector specific. They offer between £1,000 and £100,000 for SMEs, but funds can be unlimited for larger businesses within EU state aid programmes.

With grants you don’t pay the money back. However, it’s worth noting there will be clawback terms if you falsify claims in respect to expected outputs set by the grant scheme. Therefore, ensure your application is captivating and thorough as it will go through a due diligence process.

Normally there are two stages, submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) to ensure your business and grant application meets the scope of the grant call and then a full application process whereby you will need to supply, market research, a business plan and at least 1-3 years of financial forecasts.

Throughout the process, you will need to justify there is additionality i.e. not just the reason why you need funding, but by obtaining a grant, how many new jobs you will create, if you’re opening up new markets or export opportunities or that your idea could be a game changer.

It is always worth getting a second opinion regarding the feasibility and strength of your application against the grant objectives and any regional strategic economic plan. Therefore speak to your accountant, a local business adviser or the Growth Hub.

The larger grant opportunities can be competitive and therefore be a long-drawn-out process, taking several months in some cases to receive just an offer. So if you are looking for subsidies and money quickly a grant may not be the right solution for your business.

It is also worth noting if your application is successful, grant moneys are not paid upfront but claimed normally at the back end of the project or even after any intervention is completed.

Therefore you will need to use your own cash reserves and any other funding prior to drawing down the grant money. I have even known businesses take out bridging loans till they have received their grant funds.

Some key areas of your business whereby you could access business advice or a grant;

Business advice and support, whether you are pre-start, a new start or an established business, there are regional Business Growth Hubs across the UK whereby you can obtain free or funded advice. You can normally obtain specialist support to devise a business growth strategy, do market research to create a sales and marketing plan, implement social media management or even get advice on how to apply for further funding.

Note each UK region may have a focus on specific business sectors, business sizes and locations, as eligibility can be even post code specific.

Skills and development government grants

The Skills Funding Agency oversees the current apprenticeship scheme, however on May 1st 2017 the new Apprenticeship Levy scheme starts whereby your business could access subsidised training and development to upskill existing employees to even Master’s degree level.

Many regional Universities, Colleges and further education organisations will be offering a multitude of subsidised short courses or funded degree level programmes which will help you develop your existing staff to be the managers and directors of the future.

If your business is within a rural development area and looking to grow, invest in infrastructure, machinery or seek specialist advice to diversify. Or if your business is involved with forestry and land projects the government have a scheme called LEADER managed through Local Action Groups.

The Carbon Trust Green Business Fund is a new energy efficiency support service for small and medium-sized companies in England, Scotland and Wales.

It provides direct funded support through energy assessments, training workshops, equipment procurement support and up to £10,000 capital contribution towards the purchase of energy saving equipment.

Manufacturing is an area which is increasingly supported through grant schemes. Therefore if you manufacture textiles, specialist tooling, operate in the digital market, within the nuclear supply chain or need support for international trade, or manufacture in many other sectors, there is likely to be a grant scheme that your business can access.

Innovation, Research and Development

Innovate UK, offers support and funding to help businesses develop new products and services and bring them closer to market, this may be to bring people together to share ideas, tackle challenges and make new technological advances.

They targets technologies and areas with the greatest scope to improve business, the economy and society.

Local Enterprise Partnership

For anyone looking for grants at the moment, the go-to people will be their Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). One of the main functions of the LEPS is to generate economic growth and so many have their own grants programmes.

In addition, most provide some form of business support and advice. As part of the business advice service they collate information on local and national grants and will signpost business owners to the relevant organisations.

Another great source of information is the government ‘Business is Great’ website which has a page dedicated to a number of funds to support innovation.

There is also is an EU tool which does a better job than anything I’ve seen of clarifying what finance is available across the EU including although is does require some persistence in searching to get to the information.

For companies and individuals with ground breaking research which may require significant funding there is also Horizon 2020:

Grant funding is not for everyone but could give your business the boost it needs. Proper preparation, thorough research, getting professional advice and being able to clearly explain why you require your grant funding is more likely to lead to a successful application. And, as a result, help you obtain the financial support for a better, bigger and more profitable business for you.

Unsecured Business Loans

A business may require a loan for a number of reasons. Whether you’re looking to expand your business or purchase additional inventory and equipment, quick access to a business loan can help stimulate business growth and keep a company thriving.

Unsecured Business Loans

Working Capital Loans

Working capital is critical to the growth and success of any business. Managing finances is a constant battle in the business world. As a business grows, it is necessary that the cash flow expands with it in order to succeed.

Inventory Loans

If you manage products and maintain a large inventory, having cash at hand is a must. Meeting the demand of your customers is vital to your profitability and business reputation.

Expansion Loans

Financial growth and internal business expansion go hand and hand. The big question facing any business is how to grow in a way that is both manageable and cost effective.

Equipment Loans

Equipment and machinery are important assets to any business. Many products can’t be produced without the proper working tools. An equipment loan can be used to purchase new or used equipment.

What is an Unsecured Loan?

An unsecured loan, sometimes referred to as a signature loan or a merchant loan, is a special type of financing available to business that is different from traditional lending. Instead of requiring collateral to obtain financing, unsecured lending uses several other factors to judge the eligibility of a loan applicant. These could include things such as your credit score and sales records from the business. This type of financing may be advisable for small business owners who do not want to risk their personal collateral in order to obtain the financing they need. Since the loan requirements differ from traditional bank loans, the interest rates and speed of approval can be much different. Oftentimes these merchant loans are reviewed and approved in a very short time frame, making them ideal for anyone who is in need of immediate capital.

Secured Vs. Unsecured Loans

The main difference between an unsecured and a secured loan is the collateral required. There are pros and cons to all lending options that business owners should consider in order to come to an informed financial decision for their business.

Secured Loans

Secured Loans often come from banks or traditional lending sources. They are the most common type of financial borrowing available. Secured loans, backed by an asset such as a house or piece of property, give the lender the ability to repossess collateral should the borrower default on their loan. The type of collateral required can vary and the lender and borrower must come to agreeable terms in order to move forward with the lending process.

Loan processes vary between different secured lending services. The standard procedure usually involves the loan amount, asset negotiation and loan repayment terms. Repayment terms are often much more generous in both time and interest rate because the loan is backed by collateral in the event of default. Secured loans, backed by an asset such as a house or piece of property, give the lender the ability to repossess collateral should the borrower default on their loan.

Unsecured Loans

Unsecured loans differ drastically from secured loans, including the application requirements. Merchant business lending is not centered on collateral or personal assets, and instead focuses on other factors of your business to determine loan worthiness. Some factors that can help with acquiring an unsecured loan might include your credit history, sales records, business growth, and projected financial income.

Unsecured business loans can come in the form of credit cards, personal loans, corporate bonds, and payday loans. Interest rates tend to be higher and come with a shorter repayment period, which results in a lower amount paid towards interest. There is no collateral required for this loan agreement.

Why SnapCap?

SnapCap prides itself on our ability to listen and understand your unique business needs. SnapCap is an open and honest source for businesses to apply and receive the most competitive short-term loan options available online today.

More Than 15 Small Business Funding Resources for You

Small business funding

Most small business owners can identify with the challenges of getting financing for their business or funding for a new product. There s no short, easy road to funding, most of the time, but these small business funding resources can help.

Kabbage

Kabbage has to be the most unique small business funding source found recently. They have created a powerful platform that, in my understanding, is creating a real-life look at how your business is doing to help you grow it.

They don t only look at credit scores, as so many traditional lenders do. They look at things like your Paypal, Ebay, Amazon, or Intuit QuickBooks account to figure out if you qualify and how much of a credit line you can receive. It is impressive.

Kiva Zip

Another innovative program and approach is found with Kiva, the microfinance platform. Etsy wrote about it. There is official information about zero interest (0%) with the Kiva Zip program (in Alpha, not even in Beta), and success stories on the main page.

The Lending Club

The Lending Club is a name that many consumers and business owners have heard before, but it is a site worth checking. Their peer-to-peer approach has taken the banking world by storm and it looks likely to continue in the business loan sector.

SmartBiz SBA Loans

SmartBiz SBA Loans ($5,000 $150,000) is a small business lender, but one that promises a much better process than traditional banks, on SBA type loans. If you ve ever gone through the SBA formal process, you know that it is rather comprehensive.

Funding Circle

Funding Circle has a large UK presence as well as a US site. It is an online marketplace for small business loans. The site explains you can find out in approximately one week if you qualify for a loan.

MultiFunding

Ami Kassar CEO of MultiFunding has a useful website on how the different funding options work and his consulting brokerage serves as a matchmaker for businesses that need more than just the best rate and need help with more complicated loan options.

OnDeck and BoeFly

Here are a couple of other small business loan providers that are promising an easier process, lower rates, and other options that might make their loans more appealing to you. OnDeck and BoeFly.

QuickBooks Financing

QuickBooks Financing has a site dedicated to helping you find the right financing. It is a matching engine that allows their selected lenders to provide you with the right loan. I m presuming it also uses some of your QuickBooks data, but I m not certain of that as I did not submit data on the form.

Wells Fargo and SBA Bank of America

There is no shortage of traditional lenders where you can walk into a branch and talk to someone about an SBA loan, so I would be remiss for not including at least a couple that I believe in. The Wells Fargo small business loan page offers a range of good information. And the SBA Loan page at Bank of America may help you sort different SBA options.

Factoring

If you have ever considered factoring, where you get financing based on your receivables, then I recommend this guide from RTS Financial, Your Complete Guide To Factoring.

PayPal Working Capital

PayPal Working Capital lets you pay your loan back as you get paid. A factoring method, of sorts.

Chase Mission Main Street Grants

One of my favorite places to look for less traditional financing options is the Small Business Events here on Small Business Trends. I used it to help compile this list, so I know there are some great funding options, often awards or contests, worth considering. This Chase Mission Main Street Grants is a terrific example. There is new information on the 2014 program.

Government Grants

You may need help to understand if a Government grant is worth pursuing. There are some large scale federal programs that pass funds through to universities and other nonprofit type institutions where you can sometimes find just the right help for your company.

City and State Level Resources

As I mentioned above, there are many city and state level resources, but too many to explain. If you search for your city or state combined with economic development, small business funding, and other related terms, you may find a niche program that serves your needs.

Here is a page from the Nevada Small Business Development Center where you ll get an idea of what you find at the state level. There are community-focused programs, as an example of a city program, for the Philadelphia area, Loan Programs City of Philadelphia Business Services Center. Scroll down through the long list to find the smaller loan amounts.

Opportunity Finance Network

Opportunity Finance Network (part of Goldman Sachs 10,000 small businesses initiative) is a big initiative sponsored by Goldman Sachs. The goal is to help educate business owners on a wide range of topics, to give you the best chance for success, in addition to access to capital. You must have an established business, with revenues.

There are plenty of sites that offer business loans too many to try and list. There are resources at the State and City level, depending on where you live, that can help you financially. There are also lists of USA State websites that offer resources or details around funding and details available on what it takes to qualify for a small business loan as well as sources of start-up funding.

We welcome you to list resources in the comments. We want to see the path to funding get easier, more transparent, and understandable for small business as a whole and we hope these resources do that for you.

If you have discovered a great resource that can help a small business owner find financing or a grant, please share it below.

Best Small Business CRM Software 2017: Insightly vs Zoho vs Salesforce, small

Best Small Business CRM Software 2017: Insightly vs Zoho vs Salesforce

CRM software gives your sales team the organizational tools and brainpower to close more deals more efficiently. We looked at the most popular options and rising stars and decided to review Insightly, Zoho, and Salesforce. These companies cover the range of options for small businesses in terms of price, features and integrations.

Best CRM Software for Small Business Owners: Insightly

We recommend Insightly as the best CRM for small business owners because it’s the system your team is most likely to actually use and embrace thanks to its intuitive menus, fast-loading design, and advanced features that focus on quality over quantity. It’s also the system we use here at Fit Small Business.

Insightly vs Zoho vs Salesforce Summary

10am – 6pm EST, Mon-Fri

24 hours, Mon-Fri

(24/ 7 available for extra)

Strong easy-to-use sales and project management.

Manage leads, sales projects. Great reporting.

Highly customizable CRM and phone integration.

Highly customizable with lots of custom fields workflow “triggers.”

Integrate lots of different software into your sales process.

Massive collection of add-ons integrations.

Why We Chose Insightly as the Best CRM for Small Business Owners

We recommend Insightly because it’s the system your sales team is most likely to actually use and embrace. While a CRM promises extra efficiency, the first hurdle is getting your team to adopt it. By providing intuitive menus, quick loading times, and simple admin tools, I found Insightly to be the easiest system to learn, use and manage.

Like Zoho and Salesforce, Insightly also has advanced features once you’re ready for them. Custom fields on contacts or opportunities allow you to track the extra tidbits your business needs, like type of business or customer’s birthday. Webform email integration allow for lightning-fast outreach: Get an alert when a new lead comes in, and immediately fire-off an email using one of your pre-saved templates. Insightly’s custom reporting engine allows you to generate reports using any metric in the system: whether it’s the amount of revenue in your pipeline, the number of open tasks by employee, and so on.

All these features come at a very low price: $12/user/month. Most systems charge at least $30-$50+ for this functionality, or as high as $75, like Salesforce. While Zoho has a similarly-priced edition, it’s not quite as easy to setup and use.

Insightly also provides some of its own unique features, including native project management. While this can be added to both Zoho and Salesforce at an additional cost, Insightly includes project management for free. Like their other tools, it’s simple but highly effective; it’s the system we use to manage our articles and internal projects at Fit Small Business.

If there’s any downside to Insightly, it’s the lack of features for larger teams (20+ employees). There’s no hierarchical territory management, which can be helpful for organizing larger sales teams, nor are there quotes, invoices and purchase orders, which are provided by Zoho and Salesforce. There’s also a much smaller range of integrations compared Salesforce. They do, however, support many key programs, including Gmail, Outlook, Mailchimp, Xero, Quickbooks Online and Wufoo.

Best CRM For Customization: Zoho

If you want a greater range of sales and marketing tools, like quotes, purchase orders and website visitor tracking, or if you want to have greater control over the layout and data in your system, then Zoho CRM is your best option.

Zoho is a very close runner-up to Insightly. It’s also extremely cost-effective (starting at $12/user/month) and easy-to-use with a simple and fast-loading interface. The main difference is that Zoho packs in extra features and customization tools, which become available at their $20/month edition and higher.

Most notably, Zoho has robust automation tools that allow a slicker sales experience: You can auto-assign leads to different sales teams depending on the their location. You can setup alerts for managers when a sale reaches the final stage, or surpasses a certain dollar value. For suppliers or retailers, you could automatically send customers a followup email 1 week after delivery. This puts it in the same class as Salesforce, though at a fraction of the cost.

Insightly recently unveiled many of these tools (known as workflow automation and lead assignment rules) but you need a Professional account or higher to access them ($50+). With Salesforce, it will cost you $150/user/month. Zoho, by contrast, makes them available on their free edition, gradually adding functionality with each tier.

So, if Zoho has all these advantages, why do we recommend Insightly? It all comes down to the setup and administration. Insightly is much easier to setup on your own, and should you need to make any changes— say, to create a new workflow — you or any employee can easily hop in to make the change.

Zoho requires a bit more expertise and training, which isn’t going to be worth it if you’re just looking to use the sales CRM features. I recommend that you the Zoho alternatives article to learn more about simple to use and powerful alternatives. However, if you need the extra customization and automation, then Zoho is well worth the effort.

Best CRM For Integrations: Salesforce

If you use a lot of different programs during your sales process, like digital signatures, quoting, proposals, invoices, etc. — Salesforce gives you a way to combine them into one system.

Like Zoho, Salesforce is a highly advanced, customizable CRM. Where Salesforce takes the lead, however, is with their integrations. For one, the AppExchange has over 3,000 different programs you can integrate with Salesforce. Secondly, you can integrate many apps in a far more robust way, like using programs directly within Salesforce, and working tasks like e-signing contracts into your workflows.

The downside to Salesforce is its high price tag ($150/user per month if you want the real deal). It also takes a lot of work to administer. There’s a huge array of backend tools that will require training to understand and use. Unlike Insightly, which any business owner should be able to set up themselves, Salesforce will likely require an outside expert to setup and administrate their system.

Detailed Comparison

Pricing

Most CRM pricing is subscription-based, typically purchased for 1 year at a time. Each company has a range of editions, varying in their features and amount of storage.

Both Insightly and Zoho are the most affordable options, starting at $12/user/month. They both also offer free editions with limited storage/features. Salesforce is significantly more expensive, starting at $75/user/month for their full CRM package (although they have the very basic SalesforceIQ at a lower price).

Below we’ll briefly compare each company, then dive into their full pricing information:

Business – definition of business by The Free Dictionary, small business idea.#Small

business

These nouns apply to forms of activity that have the objective of supplying products or services for a fee. Business pertains broadly to commercial, financial, and industrial activity, and more narrowly to specific fields or firms engaging in this activity: a company that does business over the internet; went into the software consulting business; owns a dry-cleaning business. Industry entails the production and manufacture of goods or commodities, especially on a large scale: the computer industry. Commerce and trade refer to the exchange and distribution of goods or commodities: laws regulating interstate commerce; involved in the domestic fur trade. Traffic pertains in particular to businesses engaged in the transportation of goods or passengers: renovated the docks to attract shipping traffic. The word may also suggest illegal trade: discovered a brisk traffic in stolen goods.

busi ness

Business

  1. As oxygen is the disintegrating principle of life, working night and day to dissolve, separate, pull apart and dissipate, so there is something in business that continually tends to scatter, destroy and shift possession from this man to that. A million mice nibble eternally at every business venture Elbert Hubbard
  2. Business is like a man rowing a boat upstream. He has no choice; he must go ahead or he will go back Lewis E. Pierson
  3. Business is like oil. It won t mix with anything but business J. Grahame
  4. Business is very much like religion: it is founded on faith William McFee
  5. Business policy flows downhill from the mountain, like water Anon
  6. A business without customers is like a computer without bytes Anon

As the entries that follow show, this concept lends itself to many additional twists.

Playwrights Ernst and Lindley wrote this simile to be spoken by a judge in their 1930 s play Hold Your Tongue.

The first two words are transposed from Computer companies to generalize the comparison.

Business is the work of making, buying, and selling goods or services.

When you use business in this sense, don’t say ‘a business’. Don’t say, for example, ‘ We’ve got a business to do ‘. You say ‘We’ve got some business to do’.

You can talk about a particular area of business using the followed by a noun followed by business.

But outside of the club, things don’t look so rosy. At home, Tony fights constantly with his father and has to compete with his family’s starry-eyed view of his older brother, a priest. Nor can he find satisfaction at his dead-end job at a small paint store. However, things begin to change when he spies Stephanie Mangano in the disco and starts training with her for the club’s dance competition. Stephanie dreams of the world beyond Brooklyn, and her plans to move to Manhattan just over the bridge soon change Tony’s life forever. Written by alfiehitchie

User Reviews

Although it may seem dated and cheesy to some viewers today Saturday Night Fever remains one of the most underrated examples of 70s pop-culture. It is undoubtedly the quintessential dance flick and remains one of the most entertaining films of all-time. Yet, behind all the music and entertaining aura you are actually viewing a drama studying the American class system and young rebellion. Though at times it is slightly exaggerated, it still manages to capture a vast amount of authenticity and ultimately the sights and sounds of the time.

Small Business Grants – How and Where To Apply, small business grants

Small Business Grants – How to Find Them and How to Qualify

Small business grants for womenSmall business grants are financial assistance programs available to entrepreneurs and business owners in the United States who have fewer than 500 employees. The funding can come from a government agency, a non-profit organization, or another for-profit company. Awards typically range from $500 to up to $100,000.

Eligibility varies, and can depend on your location, your income, your ethnicity, your gender, your experience in business, as well as your longetivity in business. Some small business grants can even require that you participate in a competition or write an essay to demonstrate your talents or need.

Here are 5 great ways to find what opportunities are available to you:

1) Check With Your Local Government Agencies. Many cities, counties, and states give away money to local businesses. Why? Because they want you to create jobs and more tax revenue. Many times they won’t highly publicize these opportunities, but it’s in your best interest to give them a call and/or search their web sites.

2) Check With Federal Government Agencies. The federal government doesn’t give grants directly to businesses, but they do give money to foundations who in turn can give money to small businesses. The federal agency in charge of this is the Grants Program Management Office, and all of their opportunities are listed publicly online.

3) Check With Major Corporations. Nearly every major corporation in this country has a foundation that gives away grants to enhance communities, and many of these are grants to start or expand a business. Start by checking first with big companies that are headquarted in our city or state.

4) Search The Internet. Use Google, Yahoo and Bing to conduct a search using the term business grants . You can even throw in the name of your city, county, state, etc. Carefully review the results, and look for web sites that other web sites are linked to. Doing so, will help you to find opportunities that may be casually listed on a blog or some type of directory. You may even come across a recent news article about a new opportunity.

5) Ask Around. When attending professional networking functions and social mixers, never hesitate to ask people that you meet about new opportunities. Many times, small business grants are given away to people who happen to be in the right place at the right time. Grants For Women, Government Grant, small business grants for women.#Small #business #grants

Grants For Women

Women have had a constant struggle for equality and have made tremendous strides. Yet many still have lower paying jobs and suffer from discrimination in the workplace. In fact, 75% of women make less money than their male counterparts, when fulfilling the same job. Government grants for women are designed to help lessen this inequality and give women opportunity through finances.

Grants are given to women in order to:

  • Pursue college and/or higher education
  • Start a new business
  • Expand or update and existing business
  • Subsidize a low income household
  • Subsidize personal or family need

Small Business Grants for Women

Small business grants for women

If you re looking to start a new business, fund a nonprofit or further your educational research, there are plenty of grants created just for women that can assist you in pursuing your goals

Now more than ever women are receiving grants and starting up their own company or becoming a force to reckon with in their industry. In fact, according to the statistics of recent years, women make up nearly half of the population of new business owners each year; and are more likely to succeed in their venture than their male counterparts. How is that for incentive? If the only thing that has been holding you back has been money, than a grant is just what you need.

Business grants for women may focus on specific aspects of the corporate world like entrepreneurship or women-owned businesses. The U.S. Small Business Association provides incentives to help women business owners. Some organizations recognize leaders in their fields or individuals who contribute to the advancement of women in a profession like the Individual Awards from the Society of Women Engineers. There are also several non-profit organizations award grants to help women help themselves.

Below are some examples of grants available to women:

Mott Foundation Grant

This grant from the Mott Foundation is for women who want to enhance their education for the purpose of being more effective in the democratic community. Women who want to be involved in both governmental and non-governmental organizations can apply for this grant, as can women who want to start a nonprofit organization.

Women who want to start a water conservation program or an initiative to preserve the environment in their area are also eligible for the Mott Foundation Grant, as are women who seek to improve the educational systems in their cities or states.

If you re looking to start a new business, fund a nonprofit or further your educational research, there are plenty of grants created just for women that can assist you in pursuing your goals[/caption]

Applicants must submit a letter or intent and formal proposal for this grant; the amount of the grant varies.

Levi Strauss Foundation Grant

The Levi Strauss Grant for women awards funds to those who are dedicated to promoting worker s rights. Women who are committed to educating their communities about the prevention of HIV/AIDS are also eligible to receive the Levi Strauss Grant. Women around the world are able to apply for the grant. Depending on the purpose of the grant, women can be awarded anywhere between $250 and $458,667.

Global Fund for Women

A grant from the Global Fund for Women helps to advance the efforts of promoting human rights for girls and women. The grant is designed for women who are running human rights or community advancement organizations outside of the U.S., and the application is offered in five languages: English, French, Spanish, Russian and Arabic.

Grants from the Global Fund for Women are between $500 and $30,000. Detailed proposal letters and applications are due between September 15 and December 15, or between March 15 and June 30. Applicants are notified of their award by May 31 or November 30.

The Amber Grant

The Amber Grant is a small grant of $500-$1000 that is awarded to women starting up their own business. The money is intended for use in essential start-up costs.

The Women s Financial Fund Grant Program

The Women s Financial Fund Grant Program gives money to new and existing businesses owned by women. New businesses can receive from $100-$500 for start-up costs, and existing businesses could be eligible for $1,000 to $5,000.

College Grants for Women

Before 1975, more men attended college than women. Today, approximately 25 percent more women attend college than men. Despite increased enrollment, women are still underrepresented in several fields including engineering, computer science and the physical sciences. College-educated women in the workforce earn approximately 75 percent as much as their male counterparts. Minority women fill more lower-paying occupations. Less than 15 percent of women are in management and business and only 7 percent are in higher-paying fields like engineering and computer science. Minority women are least represented in these fields. To help close the gaps between men and women in the workforce the government, non-profit and corporate institutions have set aside grants and awards for women.

Business Plan for Small Business – Starting A Small Business, small business

    Business Plan for Small Business

Why do you need a business plan for your small business? A common mistake made by Entrepreneurs is not being prepared. They like to dive into the pool without testing out the water but what if the pool is freezing cold? Then you would regret diving in wouldn’t you? Having a business plan will not only prepare you in planning your small business, but will also serve the following purposes:

    • Investors, loan officers and venture capitalists will need to look at your business plan to determine if they want to invest in your small business or offer you a small business loan.
    • It will force you to set down some clear goals and marketing strategies for your small business
    • Writing down the details can help you visualize all the aspects of your small business.
    • It can be a tool in the future to measure if your small business performs higher or lower than expected.

Keep in mind that not all business plans are the same. Below is a basic business plan outline. Don’t rush through your business plan. It is not something that can be written on your lunch break. It requires research and thinking. If you feel that you need assistance forming a business plan for your small business read Help with Business Plan.

A Business Plan should include the following:

Cover Page Indicate the name of your company, date, owner’s name, address and phone number.

Table of contents this will inform the reader where items are located in your business plan.

Statement of Purpose 1-2 paragraphs about the small business you plan to start and how much money you need to start it.

Executive Summary A short summary of the business plan.

    • Historical account of your business or business idea What inspired your business idea. Did you notice a need in your community that was not being met?
    • Goals and Objectives Outline your short term (1 year) and long term (5 years) goals. Where do you see your business in the future? Don’t make unrealistic assumptions; for example don’t say you’ll be making millions in less than 3 months.
    • Your products or services Describe the products or services your business plans to sell. What is unique about your product or service?
    • Location -location is a big factor in determining the success of a small business, so make sure to include your desired location. Include demographics and statistics. For example if you were starting a daycare you could look up statistics of how many kids between the ages of 1-11 are living in your area.
    • Management/ ownership The people in management positions are a critical factor to the success of your business. State your qualifications and experience in this field as well as those of your staff. Demonstrate that you have qualified, well knowledged and experienced people holding leadership positions in your business.
    • Marketing Plan Identify your prospective customers and how you plan to market your product or service. Is there a need for your product/ service that is not being met? Include trends in the market; also forcast the growth of trends in the future. Use graphs to organize this information.
    • Competitive Analysis -Is there a lot of competition out there? What do you have that they don’t? Can you offer better quality or better prices? Why should potential customers choose you over the competition?
    • Current and projected financial statements
      • Financial Statements Plan out how much you expect to make in the future.
      • Identify risks Be honest. Lenders will appreciate your honesty and see your information as credible. Lenders know that every business faces risks. List all the potential problems your small business might face and how you plan to deal with those problems.
      • Investments needed Indicate to the lender how much money you need to start your business. Describe your plan on how you are going to use that money. Also state when you plan to pay back the lender and how much interest they should expect to earn from their investment.
    • Appendix In the appendix you can include any supporting information such as resumes (to show experience in the desired field), letters of recommendation and legal documents.

TIP: The content in your business plan is important but also is the presentation of it. Make sure to present your business plan in a neat, appealing, simple fashion. It should be typed, not hand written (even if you have very nice handwriting).

And, during weak economic activity, or an economic recession, you can also learn survival strategies (using templates and samples, such as a sample cash flow statement or sample business plan) that are available on this site.

Are you struggling to manage your business?

Do you work more hours in a day in your operation than you can count on both hands? When your friends (who work regular 8 to 5 jobs) talk about work-life balance, do you wonder . what’s that? And mean it?

    Start doing things differently!

Start working more efficiently; get more work done, in less time!

If you work long days and nights in your enterprise,it is controlling you.

    Get the control back!

Small business consultantWhen you put in all those hours, you’d think that business must be good. But often it’s a sign of things going wrong (you’re just too busy to see it). And if your operation is really doing well, then getting a handle on the amount of time you spend IN your organization will let you run it more effectively.

Opening a Small Business? Or Need Help to Manage Your Business?

Small business startup failures are high in year one. And unfortunately, more organizations will shut down before their fifth year anniversary.

Other operations fail because they can’t handle fast growth; or because they can’t grow. (Note: Doing a marketing SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) can help you understand how to manage SWOT for growth.)

Don’t let your business become one of these failures!

If you’re opening a small business, or wanting to know how to start a small business, then make sure you understand how to organize and manage your operation from the start – it will save you time, energy and money!

You likely got into your business because you had a passion, and a talent, for it. You are a specialist in your field. But you’re finding less and less time to do what you love because you’re spending more and more time doing all the other things that have to get done; successful administration and management of your organization takes time.

The Importance of Strategy and Marketing SWOT Analysis

Believe it, or not, opening a small business was the easier part of ownership; now you have to manage it. You have to continue to build strategies, measure results, and adjust plans. And in today’s business climate, you need to know how to complete a marketing SWOT analysis; build competitive pricing strategies; create stronger product and service plans; manage people and understand the role of human resources; and prepare your organization to manage its way through the good times and the tough times (from being oversold to surviving a recession cycle).

From paperwork, to creating plans, selling, hiring (and firing), operating equipment, to managing your cash flow, and your time . the details or reality of running a small business can slow (or drag) you down. And if you’re trying to learn more for small business (including efficiently opening a small business), this is also the right place to be.

Strategy planning and, then implementing strategy, through effective managing techniques range from understanding how to survive challenges; how to create vision statements; how to do value chain analysis; develop marketing plans; use guerilla marketing tactics; define market share; calculate profit margins; develop pricing strategies; use a sample cash flow statement to set up your own cash management system; and much more. It can be pretty overwhelming.

On this site, you can learn how to run your small business, before it runs you.

    More for small business.com

can be a significant resource for you.

My name is Kris Bovay and I have worked in, and on, businesses for more than 25 years. I have a wide range of knowledge, skills and experience in small, medium and large organizations.

From a functional perspective, I am highly capable in a number of areas: strategy, management, operations, manufacturing, customer service, marketing, building pricing strategy, developing networks and building your community, creating and managing sales, defining the role of human resources, planning, and, of course, managing your time. I’m not that fond of accounting and administration – although I like money and calculating profit – as a small business owner myself I know enough to do what I have to do (and get help when needed).

And I work with great associates in a number of other areas (for example, lean manufacturing, accounting, continuous quality improvement, graphic design, and coaching). Okay, enough about me. This site is for you: small business owners and managers.

    More for Small Business Resources

Clients who have found these resources useful are those owners or managers who don’t have the hours in a day to do everything that needs to get done.

If you are an entrepreneur who finds that no matter how much you do, there is always more to do, then review the resources on this site; they can help you manage and operate more effectively.

These are challenging times. We’re operating in a fast-moving, fast-changing environment. Competition is stronger than ever, and it’s global competition. The More For Small Business site will provide you with great resources and access to information to help you succeed; it provides more for small business.

For example, to help your business perform better; create high performance teams that are focused on achieving specific goals. Then you need to ensure that you manage (and lead) those teams to gain a competitive advantage that is sustainable and that helps your business grow, successfully.

And are you aware of the importance of minimizing business risk? Businesses operating in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom need to consider the protection that business insurance offers. This is even more necessary for small businesses which are at higher risk for failure if an event occurs that could have been protected through adequate insurance and disaster recovery planning.

As a small business owner, it can be overwhelming to consider all the requirements of operating your business.

I’ve been where you’re at and done what you’re doing too . worked 18 hours days, six or seven days a week. Always thinking, ‘things are going toget better’ or ‘I’ll hire someone next month to help out’. The reality is you burn down and out with that kind of thinking. And your business won’t get better, or stronger, or more successful.

The More For Small Business website has been developed to provide more for you! Use the resources available throughout the site.

Are you opening a small business and you’ve built your strategic plan but you’re not sure if it’s effective? Or are you running your business but the plan and reality just aren’t matching up?

Government Small Business Loans, small business startup loans.#Small #business #startup #loans

David projected profit and loss results for the first two years of my start-up business: identifying the range of possible results, giving me the confidence to invest and providing an important yardstick for future actual results.

Rudofsky Associates quickly learned my business, identifying both strengths and issues. David worked with me to develop a business plan that now serves as the blueprint for our ongoing growth and success.

David Rudofsky has the ability to quickly analyze and assimilate challenging subject matter and to develop a well-thought-out point of view. He possesses outstanding analytical skills and creative intellectual ability.

David is great to work with, very knowledgeable and helpful, and created some terrific Excel models that we use to plan our business and seek capital. I highly recommend him!

Thanks as always for your help, and more so for how you cared.

Revealing results; Rudofsky’s work led us to do things we didn’t do before.

The results of David’s work were very enlightening, and gave me a greatly increased understanding of the profitability of our business.

David Rudofsky knows money, how it works, and how to make it work for you. What could be a better business asset than that? Rudofsky conscientiously supported our business with much thought, care, and exceptional expertise. His ability to conceptualize, strategize, and ask provocative questions propelled the Parent Coaching Institute to its next growth phase. David analyzed our revenue streams and supplied the necessary financial documents that helped our investor understand us and make that all-important decision to fund us.

David Rudofsky worked with us to create a financial model showing month by month how our food business is going to grow over the next few years with different phases of investment money. Having an accurate, predictive and analytical tool has been useful for us and has helped us communicate effectively with prospective investors. David brought to bear a number of valuable food industry perspectives, established an important collaboration with my bookkeeper, and was very good at explaining various financial concepts.

David and I worked together at General Foods / Kraft Foods where he helped develop and implement the profit improvement turnaround for the newly launched Jell-O Pudding Snacks brand, with initiatives ranging from packaging cost reduction, product line simplification, and adjustment to advertising seasonality to better match the available plant capacity. He worked tirelessly to work through plans to make the business a commercial success and drive profits to the Business Unit. I would recommend him highly for his work and skill set.

Professor Rudofsky is an excellent instructor of Finance. I received my MBA from Polytechnic Institute of NYU and his course was easily the best course I took in the whole curriculum.

    Best bank for small business

Keeping small business bills down is easier than you think, using the same techniques you use for slashing household costs.

This small business MoneySaving guide gives you the best business bank accounts and savings, utilities, phones, broadband, insurance and more.

    In this guide

What do I need to do when I set up a business?

It’s a common question – who do you need to tell/register with to set up a business? This Gov.UK page has the basics of setting up the things you need, but, it won’t surprise you to hear that one of the first people you should tell is the taxman.

HMRC has set up an online ‘e-learning course’ to help you with questions you might have about tax and national insurance, or how to start and keep the correct business records. It’s useful if you’re just setting up and helps you start with good business habits. Or see its list of business tax webinars, videos and other resources to help once you’re up and running.

    Best business bank accounts

Once you’re registered, you’ll need to find a business bank account. Unlike personal bank accounts, which are usually fees-free if you’re in-credit, the opposite’s true for their business brothers. Charges of Ј25 per transaction are possible on top of monthly account fees, and this can be a nightmare. There are four steps towards beating these.

Step 1: Use a personal account if you can

If you are a sole trader (not a limited company), then you may be able to use your normal bank account for your business, with all the better terms that involves (though check your terms & conditions – some banks won’t allow this).

However, using a separate, dedicated account could make your record-keeping a lot easier. It could also be a huge help if HMRC selects your tax return for an in-depth inquiry. For all the best buys, see the Top Bank Accounts guide.

If you make a large number of transactions, deal with big sums, or need to regularly bank cash, then your bank may suggest getting a business account. If that’s likely, start with the right one straight away.

    Best bank for small business

  • Step 2: Lowest charge business bank accounts

Three accounts stand out, based on charges:

The Santander* Start Up Business Account offers unlimited free day-to-day transactions for a year – or 18 months if you’re already a Santander customer. It also pays 0.25% in-credit interest. After the end of the free period, you can choose from four different fees between Ј7.50 and Ј40/mth depending on monthly cash deposit withdrawal limits (you can choose from Ј1,000 to Ј10,000).

NatWest’s Start-ups package has18 months of free unlimited transaction banking. After that, you revert to their standard tariff, at which point you pay per transaction. You can open the account if you started trading within the last 12 months, and the company’s turnover is less than Ј1 million. Apply online, or call 0345 413 5020.

TSB also offers 18 months free banking if you’re a start up. The free banking includes paying in & taking out cash, paying in or issuing cheques, plus paying standing orders & direct debits. Services like CHAPS transfers will be charged for.

These are effectively just like consumer bank accounts and have limited features. So if you need complex facilities, such as an account that automatically works with accounting software or need business assistance, you can get these from banks, but at a price.

Business banking best buy comparison sites:

Even if you can’t find one with the services you like at a low charge, don’t give up with business bank accounts. It’s often possible to negotiate with your bank to waive the charges, so long as you stay within set transaction constraints, for example, a maximum of 10 requests to process business cheques each month.

Step 3: Minimise the charges you pay

Whatever the account, make your first job listing the fees that apply to it. Ensure you (and any staff) are aware of them.

Think about how you operate to minimise charges. Make sure you’re paid by BACS rather than cheque, stick to online banking, cut down on the cash you pay into the account, use automated transactions where possible and avoid using unauthorised overdrafts.

Make sure you check the charges in your statement, it may also help you spot problems. For example, if you accept a cheque that’s been returned unpaid by the debtor’s bank, your bank will charge you an administration cost, and you won’t get the money due. So then you can chase the payment up, and ask them to pay the incurred charges too.

Step 4: Sweep cash into savings

If you’re in the fortunate position to build cash up in your account, be sure to have a business savings account linked to it. Then you can sweep the money into it to maximise interest (see below).

Free Online Education Courses From The Small Business Administration

For small businesses entrepreneurs, continuous learning and finding new resources to help further business goals can be essential to growth and success. However, business courses can be costly and the sheer amount of information and resources available online can be overwhelming.

But now, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has announced a new online Small Business Learning Center aimed at simplifying the process of finding and procuring small business resources online.

    The small business administration

The redesigned portal features a searchable catalog of educational resources including videos, web chat sessions, and self-paced courses all aimed at small businesses and entrepreneurs.

The free courses can cover anything from disaster recovery to market research. Basic topics covered include starting a business, managing a business, financing, marketing, and government contracting. Users can browse items by selecting the course topic and/or the type of media.

Once users select a course that looks interesting, they can view details about it including a brief overview, length of the course, system requirements, and a few more details.

The photo above shows what the overview page looks like for a course regarding the 8(a) Business Development Program. Users can view the course s workbook (PDF) or a text-based version (PDF) in addition to the course itself.

Once you begin the course, all of the course s topics are indexed on the left, so that you can see an outline of what is to be covered. At any time, you can stop the course, go back to a previous slide, or advance to other content within the course. Many of the slides also include links that direct you to supplementary content elsewhere.

For videos and chat sessions, you can simply view the media or transcripts directly on the overview page.

The site also gives businesses access to analysis tools and information about local resources, such as connection to SBA district offices, SCORE chapters, Small Business Development Centers and more.

The SBA already offers many resources for small business entrepreneurs, both educational and otherwise. But this new portal is a way to easily find and access the resources that can be most relevant to your business needs.

What Should Be On A Business Card For Small Businesses, Small Business

What Should Be On A Business Card For Small Businesses

    Small business cards

Should you put anything on the back of a business card? Is it important to list your website url?

Just because you only have a few inches of real estate to work with doesn t mean you still can t get your message across and do it in a way that doesn t require packing every possible bit of information about your business.

Your business card is often the first place prospective customers look when they re searching for contact information for your small business. Having a professional looking business card forms a first impression that can mean the difference between them picking up the phone or throwing your business card in the trash.

Here s what to include (and not include) on a business card:

    1. Logo and Tagline

If you want your business card (and your business) to really get noticed, it all starts with great design and quality printing. Your brand should be immediately recognizable. That means should always include the name of your business AND your logo somewhere on your card.

And this is one area where a lot of small businesses start to really junk things up.

Take full advantage of the back side of your business card.

One of the questions I see the most frequently from small business owners is whether to list a title on their business card and, if so, what exactly to include.

There are a lot (and I mean a lot) of opinions and discussions around the topic of what job title to use on a business card when you own a small business.

Typically, job titles fall into 3 categories–no title, organizational role (ex. CEO or President), or function (ex, Director of Sales and Marketing).

    • For small businesses with only 1 or 2 employees, referring to yourself as President seems a bit blowhardy.
    • If you want people to have a clearer understanding of your day-to-day responsibilities, then something more functionally specific makes more sense (ex. Business Development Manager).
    • If you re trying to establish credibility with prospective contacts who prefer to deal directly with the owner, then go that route

    Small business cards

    3. Contact Information

Back in the day, businesses had one (or at most two) telephone numbers. Now you ll often see business cards that include an 800 number, a direct line, a cellphone, and possibly even a home number. Totally ridiculous! Your customers shouldn t have to play a game of telephone roulette.

Why not keep it simple? Include the one or two numbers where your customers will be able to reach you. That s all, that s it!

Along with your phone number, always be sure to include your email address. Notice I said your email address and not some generic [email protected] Nothing says Please don t contact me I really don t care about you more than pointing people to an anonymous inbox.

Do you need to include a physical address?

That depends on your business. If you have an ecommerce store with no brick and mortar storefront, operate out of your home, or there s no reason customers would need to visit you, leave it off. Otherwise, it s entirely up to you. However, I have spoken with a number of folks over the years who feel a physical address helps validate the legitimacy of a business.

On the front you ll typically want to include 1) a contact name 2) email 3) phone number 4) address and 5) website –all the information prospective customers will need if they want to get in touch.

Of course I can t talk about business card content without mentioning the fax. Of all the superfluous information you could possibly include, this has to be at the top of the heap. With the ability to scan and email documents, listing a fax number generally isn t necessary (unless you know your customers are going to use it).

Let s just nip this one in the bud right now. Including a QR code on your business card isn t going to make you look hip or cool.

The fact of the matter is most people aren t actually going to do anything with your business card until they get in front of a computer or tablet. At that point, it s going to take just as much time for them to pull out their phone, waste time scanning a QR code, connect to the web, and check it out as it would for them to just type in your url.

    5. Links to Social Media Profiles

If your small business is on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Google+, it doesn t take long before you wind up with a proliferation of social media profiles on your business card. Instead of giving people different ways to connect, you end up overwhelming them with a sea of social media icons and links.

Focus on the 1-2 primary social media channels your customers actually use and leave all of the other links for your website.

    6. Services (Sparingly)

If you have the room including a short list of services can definitely help reinforce your offerings with current and prospective customers.

Notice I said short. Trying to list everything under the sun will only junk things up. I know when I get business cards that have a massive laundry list of services my eyes usually just glaze over.

    7. Multiple Websites (Never!)

If you have a business website, an ecommerce site, a blog, and three social media profiles you re much better off pointing prospective customers to one url where they can then access all of your other information. In other words, don t junk it up.

    Business Card Best Practices

Don t be afraid to use both sides of your business card. Doing so gives you more space so you allow your content to breath and also make it easier to digest for current and prospective customers. For starters, add your small business logo and tagline to the back side of your card. Then use the front side for your name and title, physical address (if you have a brick-and-mortar storefront), your phone number (one is almost always enough), and your email address and website.

From there, you can look at ready-made business card designs or design your own.

Have additional questions about what to include on a business card for your small business? Leave a comment below or send them to me directly.

As a disclaimer, I use affiliate links for some of the products listed. They are all products I absolutely love and trust and would recommend regardless of whether they have an affiliate program.

    small business advertising

25 Free Low Cost Advertising Tips

(Tom’s FREE Podcast for this topic is available. – For More Info Click Here)

    Small business advertising

If there is one mistake small town businesses make more often than any other it’s, What ever is left over, we’ll use for advertising.

Marketing and advertising is an investment, not an expense.

I know it sure seems like an expense to me when I’m writing the check, but trust me it’s not.

Without enough money put aside for advertising your sales can go down and you suddenly have less and less for promotion.

When do you advertise the most? For most businesses it’s the first day of business.

Don’t you have a Grand Opening, balloons, flyers, ads, on-site radio stations, contests, and prizes?

Did the income from sales pay for that? No, it didn’t. You advertise most when you need business. You advertise more when you don’t.

An average cost of advertising is usually 1 to 5% of gross sales, which can vary according to location, local advertising rates, and industry. Car dealers need more advertising than funeral homes.

Before we get to the 25 tips let’s look at the basic strategies of successful advertising.

    * In order to be successful, your advertising must provide a consumer benefit or solve a problem.

    * That benefit or solution must be wanted by the consumer.

    * The product or service you are offering must be tied directly to that benefit or solution.

    * The benefit or solution must be distinctly communicated through medial advertising. In other words, be clear, forget the advertising glitz and make sure the message isn’t lost in the ad.

A small-budget advertiser doesn’t have the ”deep pockets to develop big advertising campaigns. Some time you need to break the rules to be noticed.

Avis did it by admitting they were Number 2 in the car rental business and that campaign took them from 6th place to second place.

When they stopped that campaign they dropped back to 6th again. In the past year they have gone back to it.

Budget conscious advertisers must achieve top results for their advertising dollar. Expand your dollars by adopting some creative techniques.

Here’s 25 tips I hope will help you.

    1. Radio, newspapers and magazine specialists will frequently give free help in developing an advertising strategy. Things like demographic information, money-saving ways to produce your ads etc.

  • Monthly magazines sometimes have unsold ad space at the end of the month they will sell at a discount.

I hope these tips will help your business grow. Not all may be relevant to your particular situation. Hopefully, they will illustrate the importance to plan and control your advertising budget.

  • Small Business Online Advertising: Discover the Best Way to Effectively Advertise Online,

    Small Business Advertising

Small business online advertising can often be difficult for small businesses still getting on their feet. Small businesses looking for online advertising ideas have numerous options available to them. The best online advertising for one small business may very well be the worst form of online advertising for another.

One of the best and most profitable ways for small businesses to advertise online is through pay-per-click marketing (PPC), a branch of Search Engine Marketing (SEM). PPC continues to grow in popularity as an effective online advertising method because it serves as a relatively easy, cost-effective way to get your advertisements in front of a huge pool of potential customers using Google AdWords and other search engine marketing platforms to display your message.

WordStream has been featured in USA Today as an aid in helping small businesses use Google AdWords to their greatest advantage.

The article reports on the trend of Big search engine platforms (Google AdWords, Microsoft AdCenter, etc.) whose bottom lines depend on selling ads linked to search results.

These search engine platforms pour millions of dollars into initiatives to help small and medium sized advertisers make the leap to pay-per-click (PPC) advertising. Unfortunately, many small business struggle to get a handle on PPC.

As WordStream’s founder Larry Kim notes, in USA Today article:

“It’s all too common for small advertisers to waste money on poorly executed campaigns. Typically, they don’t re-evaluate and they miss out on the opportunity to leverage a powerful marketing channel to grow their business.”

WordStream has been recognized as a key asset in producing high-performing PPC campaigns. Learn about how WordStream’s PPC Software and Traffic Express service can revolutionize how you advertise on Google and drive relevant, valuable traffic to your business while saving you time and money.

Small Business Advertising Tips : Using PPC

So what’s the “correct” way to use PPC as part of your small business advertising strategy? Implementing a few best online advertising practices will ensure that your small business succeeds with PPC. Here are some tips for effective small business advertising:

    • Begin with solid keyword research: Keyword research is the core component of effective online marketing and using keywords in advertising. Make sure your research is data-driven.
    • Organize and group your keywords: Keyword grouping allows for more strategic online marketing for both PPC and SEO campaigns.
    • Commit to Advertising Online: To see continuous benefits, you should regularly test, update and improve your small business online marketing campaigns.

If you’re thinking about starting or growing your own business, an SBA loan could be the perfect way to get the money you need. This guide will help you determine whether or not the SBA is the right partner to help you get the financing you need.

    How Do SBA Loans Work?

The SBA isn’t a lender itself; instead, the agency acts as a bridge between businesses and the financing options that are available. The agency’s vetted network helps narrow down the pool of lenders to those that are likely to be supportive of small businesses.

To apply for an SBA loan, businesses must show that they’re eligible for the program (this includes gathering the necessary documentation, which is detailed in a checklist on the SBA website). Once the SBA has given its approval, the business owner can go directly to an SBA-approved lender to start the process.

Here are a few advantages of the SBA loan program:

    • SBA loans require smaller down payments and have longer repayment periods.
    • Up to 90 percent financing is available.
    • The SBA guarantees lenders that their loans will be repaid, which takes away the risk they’d face by loaning to small businesses directly.
    • Once approved by the SBA, businesses are more likely to get the funding they seek.
    • The SBA sets guidelines for lenders to participate.

Aside from the SBA vetting process, borrowing from an SBA partner works like any other loan. If the balance isn’t repaid as scheduled, the lender is responsible for collecting the balance due. As with any other loan, businesses can negotiate a repayment schedule if they find themselves unable to make the designated monthly payments. If a borrower can’t pay, the SBA takes over since they guarantee the loan.

One major difference is that once a business has defaulted on an SBA loan, it then will be unable to get a later loan from the SBA. So it’s important, if going through the program, that a business owner is certain that he or she can make payments.

    Types of SBA Loans

There are seven types of loans available through the SBA, each having its own benefits and requirements. Here’s a side-by-side comparison to help you choose the right one for your business.
