Business Tax e-File (BTeF)

The Department of Finance participates in four of the IRS Fed/State Modernized e-File programs which allow New York City corporations, businesses and individuals to electronically file their Federal and NYC business tax returns together: 1120, 1065, 1040 and 1041.

Electronic filing is required for tax preparers and businesses that file 100 or more NYC returns. The following Business Tax forms must be filed electronically: NYC-2, NYC-2A, NYC-2S, NYC-3A, NYC-3L, NYC-4S, NYC-4SEZ, NYC-204, NYC-204EZ, NYC-202, NYC-202EIN, NYC-202S and NYC-EXT.

The following forms may be filed using Business Tax e-File but they are not required to be filed electronically: NYC-300, NYC-400, NYC-400B, NYC-5UB, NYC-5UBTI, NYC-245 and NYC-1127.

1. What is the Electronic Filing Mandate for Business Taxes?

The Electronic Filing Mandate for Business Taxes is a rule requiring most New York City Corporate and Unincorporated Business Tax forms to be filed and paid electronically.

2. When does the Mandate for Electronic Filing for Business Taxes begin?

Only the current tax year and the two previous years may be filed electronically. Currently, we are accepting e-filed returns for tax years 2014, 2015, and 2016.

3. Which Forms must be filed electronically?

The following forms must be filed electronically: NYC-202, NYC-202S, NYC-202EIN, NYC-2, NYC-2A, NYC-2S, NYC-3A, NYC-3L, NYC-4S, NYC-4SEZ, NYC-204, NYC-204EZ and NYC-EXT.

4. Who must file the business tax forms electronically?

Tax Preparers and Businesses that self-file returns must file electronically.

5. What are the criteria for a tax preparer to file Business Tax Forms electronically?

The following criteria must be met:

  1. Tax Preparers: Tax Preparers who have prepared more than 100 documents in, or prior to, calendar year 2016 and used tax software to prepare corporate and partnership tax documents. The 100 documents (or more) should consist of all documents completed by the members/employees of a company (including all locations). The count should include extensions, amended and prior year returns and estimated tax payments.
  2. Businesses that Self-File Returns: A corporation or partnership that does not use a tax preparer and uses software approved by the NYC Department of Finance to file returns and/or extensions.

6. Are there any opt-out provisions for electronic filing?

Tax Preparers who meet the mandated criteria cannot opt-out of the electronic filing mandate. If a taxpayer wants to opt-out of filing their taxes electronically, they can contact BTeFile and request a hardship waiver.

    Every product in this quadrant offers a balance of capability (how much the products can do) and value (whether they re worth their price/cost) that makes them stand out in the race for small business software success.

    FrontRunners has four sub-quadrants:

    • Upper Right = Leaders: Leaders are all-around strong products. They offer a wide range of functionality to a wide range of customers. These products are considered highly valuable by customers.
    • Upper Left = Masters: Masters may focus more heavily on certain key features or market segments than Leaders do. If you need a more specialized set of functionality without bells and whistles, then a product in the Masters quadrant might be right for you.
    • Lower Right = Pacesetters: Pacesetters may offer a strong set of features, but are not rated as highly on value. For example, a Pacesetter might offer greater functionality, but cost more.
    • Lower Left = Contenders: Contenders may focus on a more specialized set of capabilities that are priced at a higher point. This makes them ideal for companies willing to pay more for specific features that meet their unique needs.

    Depending on the specific needs of a software buyer, a product in any of these sub-quadrants could be a good fit.

    Why? To even be considered for this FrontRunners, a product had to achieve a minimum user rating score of 3.0 for capability and 3.0 for value. This means that all products that qualify as FrontRunners are top-performing products in their market. Their positions in the quadrant are plotted relative to how their peers performed.

    For some buyers, a specific FrontRunners quadrant might be best. For example, while products in the Leaders quadrant may have high ratings for both product capabilities and value provided to user, they may be more expensive or offer functionality that a small business may not require.

    How Are FrontRunners Products Selected?

    You can find the full FrontRunners methodology here, but the gist is that products are scored in two areas, Capability and Value.

    To be considered at all, products must have at least 10 reviews and achieve minimum user rating scores. They also have to offer a core set of functionality for example, custom dashboards and visual analytics.

    From there, user reviews and other product performance details, such as the product’s customer base and the features it offers, dictate the Capability and Value scores. Capability is plotted on the x-axis, and Value is plotted on the y-axis.

    Quickbooks Online Review: Best Small Business Accounting Software

    Our 2017 research and analysis of accounting software leads us to again recommend Intuit QuickBooks Online as the best accounting software for small businesses. We chose QuickBooks from dozens of accounting software options.     Why QuickBooks Online?

    QuickBooks Online is the best accounting software for small businesses. It s intuitive to use, competitively priced, connects to your business bank accounts, and is packed with features such as invoicing, expense tracking, inventory management, purchase ordering, and reporting.

    The software is scalable, and you can upgrade your account between the top three tiers as your business grows. Companion apps for Android and iOS devices are available, and the software integrates with hundreds of third-party applications.

    Competitively priced

    Of all the accounting software we reviewed, QuickBooks Online offers some of the best pricing, with four service tiers designed to accommodate the needs of different business types. The company offers a 30-day free trial, but if you skip it, you can receive a 50 percent discount on your subscription for six months.

    The Self-Employed plan is the most basic and costs $10 per month. Designed for independent contractors and freelancers, it allows you to track mileage, income and expenses, create invoices, accept payments and run reports. This is the only plan that can t be upgraded to a higher tier, requiring you instead to set up a new account.

    Simple Start is the next plan. It supports a single user and it costs $15 per month. In addition to the features included with the Self-Employed plan, it allows you to send estimates, and it tracks sales and sales tax. The Essentials plan supports multiple users, costs $35 per month and includes the features of the previous plans, along with bill management and time tracking. The Plus plan costs $50 per month and can help you track inventory, create budgets and pay independent contractors that use the 1099 form. You can add payroll features to these top three tiers for an additional monthly fee.

    Ease of use

    To find out exactly how easy it is to use QuickBooks Online, we tried the accounting software ourselves by signing up for a trial business account. During the registration process, QuickBooks first asks several questions about your company so the software can customize the dashboard to suit your type of business.

    It was simple to get started with the software and add information to the system. There was no need to fuss with different menus or go in circles trying to navigate the software. For instance, it was very easy to connect bank accounts and credit cards straight from the dashboard as well as enter operational data for vendors, employees and customers.

    The dashboard interface feels intuitive. It has a top navigation bar and a side menu that makes it easy to find the features you re looking for. It displays a snapshot of your financial status, with information such as income, overdue and paid invoices, expenses, profits and losses, and even a to-do widget. This gives you a quick overview of the health of your business as soon as you log into the system.

    Timesaving features

    When we asked small business owners what the perfect accounting software should do, there was one resounding requirement across the board: save time. QuickBooks Online easily lives up to this expectation.

    QuickBooks Online is all about automating tasks, making accounting less time-consuming and less stressful for small business owners. The software can automate recurring invoices and bill payments, sync data from bank and credit card transactions, and reconcile and categorize expenses, which eliminates the tedious, time-consuming task of manually doing so for every single transaction. QuickBooks can also spare you the task of creating financial reports from scratch thanks to the software s wide collection of built-in reports. In addition, it automatically backs up your data so you never have to worry about whether your books are safe and up-to-date.

    Another timesaving feature that QuickBooks offers is electronic invoicing, which helps you get paid more quickly. You can email invoices to your customers through the system, track them and accept online payments and electronic signatures.

    QuickBooks Online integrates with hundreds of third-party applications, such as those designed for email marketing, ecommerce, customer relationship management (CRM), payment processing, time tracking, payroll services and more. This can save you time by connecting the software to the business programs you already use, allowing you to automatically import, export and sync data in real time among the different services.

    Customer service

    QuickBooks Online provides several support channels to its customers. It offers both phone and chat support, which you can access directly throughout the company s website. Or, if you prefer to troubleshoot problems yourself, the support page has a searchable knowledgebase and a collection of articles, guides and videos. QuickBooks also offers a blog, a user community and training classes. If you want in-person assistance, QuickBooks gives you access to local certified Intuit advisers who can give you one-on-one help on using the software and advising your business.

    When we contacted the company as a small business owner looking for new accounting software, the QuickBooks sales rep we spoke with was pleasant and helpful. He answered our questions, asked about our business and recommended a software plan based on our specific needs. He directed us to areas of the company s website where we could find the information we were looking for and informed us about current discounts and special promotions we could take advantage of, without pressuring us to sign up for an account.

    Other benefits of QuickBooks Online

    One of the biggest benefits of using QuickBooks Online is that it s accountant approved. Not only does it have all the features accountants deem as must-haves for small businesses, but it eliminates the learning curve since most accountants already use QuickBooks, so you won t have to teach them how to use the software.

    If you use an outside accountant, you can avoid compatibility issues since the software allows you to give him or her access to the system. Whether your accountants are helping you take better control of your finances or assisting only with tax prep, using accounting software that they re are already familiar with makes the process easier for everyone involved.

    The QuickBooks sales rep we spoke with also noted that your accountant receives access to your QuickBooks account for free. In other words, your accountant doesn t count toward the number of users allowed by your plan.

    Limitations

    A major drawback to QuickBooks Online is that its mobile app lacks features. Most accounting software products offer a mobile app so you can do your accounting and view your business s finances on the go. However, QuickBooks free mobile app offers only very basic features on iOS and Android devices, limiting what you can do on your phone and tablet. Here s what you can do on those devices:

    • Send invoices
    • Reconcile transactions
    • Take photos of receipts and attach to expenses
    • View customer information and add new customers
    • View dashboard data, such as your account balance, profit and loss report, and open and past due invoices.

    If you prefer to do most of your accounting from your mobile device, check out our review for FreshBooks and Xero below. Both apps are packed with features and offer the best mobile experience for on-the-go accounting.

    About the Michigan Business Tax (MBT)

    MBT E-file Mandate for Tax Year 2010

    Beginning with the 2010 tax year, Michigan will have an enforced Michigan Business Tax (MBT) e-file mandate.

    Developers producing MBT tax preparation software and computer-generated forms must support e-file for all eligible Michigan forms that are included in their software package. All eligible MBT returns prepared using tax preparation software or computer-generated forms must be e-filed.

    Treasury will not process computer-generated paper returns that are eligible to be e-filed. A notice will be mailed to the taxpayer indicating that their return was not filed in the proper form and content and must be e-filed. Payment received with a paper return will be processed and credited to the taxpayer s account even when the return is not processed.

    Additional information will be published on Treasury s Web site as it becomes available. E-file information is available at www.MIfastfile.org.

    The Michigan Business Tax (MBT), which was signed into law by Governor Jennifer M. Granholm July 12, 2007, imposes a 4.95% business income tax and a modified gross receipts tax at the rate of 0.8%. Insurance companies and financial institutions pay alternate taxes (see below). The MBT replaces the Single Business Tax, effective January 1, 2008.

    On December 4, 2007, Governor Jennifer M. Granholm signed Public Act 145 of 2007 amending the MBT. Although the primary purpose of PA 145 was to institute an MBT surcharge, PA 145 also makes some additional changes, which are detailed in the link below.

    Designed for small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs), it’s probably a bit much for freelancers or sole traders, but if you need something a bit more useful than a cash book TurboCASH can handle VAT, debtors and creditors, purchase orders, multiple companies and multiple users.

    Slick, cloud-based free accounting that works well for freelancers

    With more than two million users, Wave is one of the most successful online accounting services – and it’s completely free for accounting, invoicing and receipts, although if you want personal technical support you’ll need to pay for it. Payroll isn’t included in the free service either, and you do get the odd advert just as you do with pretty much any free online service.

    It’s a very well designed and carefully thought out application, and while it’s probably a little basic for medium sized businesses it’s a good option for sole traders, freelancers and small firms.

    Generate forms, invoices, quotes and orders in moments

    With versions for PC, Mac, iPad and Android, NCH Express Invoice caters for most kinds of businesses – and if you have fewer than five members of staff, you can have it for free without time limits or other restrictions.

    It’s designed to create invoices, quotes and orders easily, to automate recurring ones and to send them by email or fax, and there’s a decent range of reports to pore over. The free accounting software is really just a front-end for a web-based service, but that’s no bad thing unless your business struggles to get a decent internet connection.

    Minimalist bookkeeping that uses Excel for the grunt work

    It’s not going to win any awards for aesthetics, but VT Cash Book isn’t there to look good: its priority is to record day to day cash transactions with the least amount of fuss. It uses Autocomplete to speed up data entry, supports multiple bank accounts and bank reconciliation, can be used to prepare VAT returns and enables you to create profit and loss, balance sheets and ledgers.

    A good option for anyone selling physical products

    The free version of Invoice Expert is limited to 100 customers/products, but it retains the features of its US$69.95 (about 50, AU$90) sibling including inventory and customer management, invoicing and quoting, purchase orders and inventory management.

    This free accounting software is a little bit intimidating at first glance, especially in the template-editing screens, but it’s straightforward enough. It’s an American program but it uses your Windows location to set the currency, so it should adjust itself accordingly.

    A complete money-management toolkit for small business owners

    These days genuine freeware – that is, software that’s given away for free without adverts, bundled software or ulterior motives – is a rare thing, but it describes AdminSoft Accounts: more than 300,000 people have taken advantage of what is a surprisingly thorough free accounting system (and an unusually honest set of terms and conditions).

    It can handle not just invoicing and statements but remittance advices, stock control, purchase orders, budgeting and some HR functions too. It’s a UK program so the default is pounds sterling, but it works happily in other currencies too.

    There are four primary reasons why we chose QuickBooks Online as the best small business accounting software:

    1. QuickBooks ecosystem

    Accounting software is different from other types of software because you’ll be giving other users, such as your accountant or bookkeeper, access to your information. It’s important for these people to be familiar with the system you’re using, and that’s almost guaranteed with QuickBooks. It’s the most commonly used accounting system with over 1 million customers and is regarded as the ‘go to’ accounting software. This is the primary reason we recommend QuickBooks, despite the potentially higher price tag.

    There are over 20,000 accountants and bookkeepers who are certified in QuickBooks and a large network of ProAdvisors (myself included) all across the country. Be sure to check out how to find a QuickBooks Proadvisor for tips on how to locate and hire a QuickBooks Pro.

    2. It’s easy to use

    While all 3 systems are easy to use, QuickBooks is especially ideal for business owners who don’t have an accounting background. The QuickBooks user interface consists of completing forms to bill your customers and to pay bills or write checks. Once you understand how to complete the forms, QuickBooks does the accounting behind the scenes for you.     3. QuickBooks will grow and expand with your business

    It has advanced features like inventory tracking and the ability to create budgets. In addition, you can easily add on payroll once you hire your first employee, and sign up for an Intuit Merchant Services account when you are ready to accept credit card payments from your customers. These services come with an additional cost, but the good news is that you can add them with just a click of a button and there is no need to upgrade to a new version.

    4. Create financial statements in minutes

    QuickBooks comes with 40 + reports that you can run in minutes. This includes a Profit and Loss Statement, Balance Sheet Report and Statement of Cash Flows, which provide you with a complete picture of how well your business is doing. Xero offers similar reporting capabilities. While you can run a Profit and Loss Statement and a Balance Sheet Report in Wave, you cannot prepare a Statement of Cash Flows.

    If there is a downside to QuickBooks, it’s that the quality of the support can be inconsistent. As a QuickBooks ProAdvisor, I have had a lot of experience with calling or using chat support while at a client’s office. My experience using the chat support channel has been much more successful than when I call the support line.

    Xero: Best Accounting Software for Free Payroll Processing

    Xero is not as well known as QuickBooks and is sort of the “new kid on the block,” but it is quickly making a name for itself with over 1 million small business subscribers. Xero has over 16,000 certified advisors (myself included) who can help you get up and running. You can find a Xero certified advisor by entering your city, state and zip on the website.

    In my opinion, the look and feel of the Xero interface is very similar to QuickBooks Online, so it is perfect for existing QuickBooks users that are thinking about making a change. Similar to QuickBooks, we have created a free Xero Course with video tutorials that show you how to set up your business.

    Xero includes payroll processing for up to 5 employees in their product offerings (up to 10 in premium edition). The benefit of course is that when your business grows to where you need to hire employees, there is no need to upgrade or any additional costs to pay. With QuickBooks, you need to pay an extra cost if you want payroll functionality.

    Unlike QuickBooks, Xero allows an unlimited number of users to access the program at no additional charge. This is great if you have several people like your tax professional, CPA, and employees that need access to your data. Similar to QuickBooks, you can set each person up with their own user id and password and give them access to just the areas of Xero that they need.

    The downside to Xero is their customer support. Free email support is included in all plans but if you would like to talk to someone, then you have to include a request for a telephone call in your email. The response time for emails is generally 3-4 hours.

    Lastly, although Xero is quickly catching up to QuickBooks, they still don’t have the same number of local experts/certified advisors. So if you’re thinking of choosing Xero, make sure your accountant or bookkeeper is onboard.

    Wave: Best Free Accounting Software

    Heard of Wave before? Neither had I before I started doing some research for this guide. With a price tag of FREE, I must say that I didn’t expect much. But, I was pleasantly surprised at the long list of features this accounting software has to offer for absolutely free. There are limitations on what you can do with Wave, but for a free online accounting software, the functionality is quite extensive.

    Wave was designed for contractors, freelancers, and businesses with 9 or fewer employees. They have over 2500 Pros who support small businesses that use Wave. This is significantly less than the 20,000 QuickBooks Pros and the 16,000 Xero Pros out there so it might be more challenging to find a local expert. However, the program is pretty easy to use and they have some great training resources that we will explore later on in this guide.

    Wave is able to handle the day to day business basics like invoicing customers, importing credit card and debit card transactions, and running financial statements like profit and loss and balance sheet reports. However, you cannot run a statement of cash flows in Wave. Also, it is limited when it comes to paying bills. You can enter your bills and manage their due dates in Wave, but you cannot actually write a check in Wave. Therefore, you will have to manually write checks to pay your bills and then go into Wave and manually mark your bills as paid. Since this process is manual, your accounts payable account will not be up-to-date until you have manually marked the bills as paid.

    There’s also another catch: you will see display ads on the right side of the screen. But to be honest, after working in the program for an hour, I forgot they were there.

    How to choose the best accounting software

    One of the main reasons businesses fail is because there isn’t a good bookkeeping system in place that would provide warning signs the business could run out of cash.

    You can choose to set up a bookkeeping system manually (using accounting books), electronically (spreadsheets) or use accounting software. Unless you want to get familiar with bookkeeping practices, accounting software is the most efficient choice.

    What to consider

    Every business will have different requirements from an accounting software. When choosing an accounting software consider the following:

    • does the system calculate all payroll requirements (PAYE, annual leave, long service leave etc.)?
    • does the system track stock, work in progress, orders, jobs and other task management requirements?
    • will the system be able to handle multiple bank accounts
    • does the system need to handle foreign currency?
    • does the system track separate financial records for each business or department within the business?
    • does the system allow for interface with other computer systems such as online payments?
    • does the system keep detailed records on customers including what they buy, how often they buy and when they buy (often referred to as a Customer Relationship Manager system)?

    Software options

    There are many software packages on the market that allow business managers to successfully control records without an accounting degree. Some of them, such as Free Accounting Software, have no cost. Some commonly used accounting systems used by small businesses are:

Classifications are used to separate profit and loss calculations to show where a business is making or losing money. It is also used to determine the overall financial position of a business in a balance sheet.

    How to set up a chart of accounts

    When setting up a chart of accounts you will need to:

    1. define the various accounts to be used in the business, such as different classes of assets, liabilities, expenses and sales revenue
    2. make a list of all of these under the financial classifications as noted above – that is, each different type of account for assets, liabilities, sales revenue and expenses
    3. it can be useful to allocate a numbering system for each account within the chart of accounts, such as all asset accounts will have been classified under the 1000 number and all liability accounts will be classified under the 2000 number

    The chart of accounts is very important to the overall effectiveness and accuracy of your bookkeeping, so if you don’t feel you understand it enough, then you should discuss with your bookkeeper or accountant before you set up your bookkeeping records.

    Your bookkeeper or accountant can help you set up a meaningful chart of accounts if you don’t think you can do this yourself.

    Why QuickBooks Online?

    QuickBooks Online is the best accounting software for small businesses. It s intuitive to use, competitively priced, connects to your business bank accounts, and is packed with features such as invoicing, expense tracking, inventory management, purchase ordering, and reporting.

    The software is scalable, and you can upgrade your account between the top three tiers as your business grows. Companion apps for Android and iOS devices are available, and the software integrates with hundreds of third-party applications.

    Competitively priced

    Of all the accounting software we reviewed, QuickBooks Online offers some of the best pricing, with four service tiers designed to accommodate the needs of different business types. The company offers a 30-day free trial, but if you skip it, you can receive a 50 percent discount on your subscription for six months.

    The Self-Employed plan is the most basic and costs $10 per month. Designed for independent contractors and freelancers, it allows you to track mileage, income and expenses, create invoices, accept payments and run reports. This is the only plan that can t be upgraded to a higher tier, requiring you instead to set up a new account.

    Simple Start is the next plan. It supports a single user and it costs $15 per month. In addition to the features included with the Self-Employed plan, it allows you to send estimates, and it tracks sales and sales tax. The Essentials plan supports multiple users, costs $35 per month and includes the features of the previous plans, along with bill management and time tracking. The Plus plan costs $50 per month and can help you track inventory, create budgets and pay independent contractors that use the 1099 form. You can add payroll features to these top three tiers for an additional monthly fee.

    Ease of use

    To find out exactly how easy it is to use QuickBooks Online, we tried the accounting software ourselves by signing up for a trial business account. During the registration process, QuickBooks first asks several questions about your company so the software can customize the dashboard to suit your type of business.

    It was simple to get started with the software and add information to the system. There was no need to fuss with different menus or go in circles trying to navigate the software. For instance, it was very easy to connect bank accounts and credit cards straight from the dashboard as well as enter operational data for vendors, employees and customers.

    The dashboard interface feels intuitive. It has a top navigation bar and a side menu that makes it easy to find the features you re looking for. It displays a snapshot of your financial status, with information such as income, overdue and paid invoices, expenses, profits and losses, and even a to-do widget. This gives you a quick overview of the health of your business as soon as you log into the system.

    Timesaving features

    When we asked small business owners what the perfect accounting software should do, there was one resounding requirement across the board: save time. QuickBooks Online easily lives up to this expectation.

    QuickBooks Online is all about automating tasks, making accounting less time-consuming and less stressful for small business owners. The software can automate recurring invoices and bill payments, sync data from bank and credit card transactions, and reconcile and categorize expenses, which eliminates the tedious, time-consuming task of manually doing so for every single transaction. QuickBooks can also spare you the task of creating financial reports from scratch thanks to the software s wide collection of built-in reports. In addition, it automatically backs up your data so you never have to worry about whether your books are safe and up-to-date.

    Another timesaving feature that QuickBooks offers is electronic invoicing, which helps you get paid more quickly. You can email invoices to your customers through the system, track them and accept online payments and electronic signatures.

    QuickBooks Online integrates with hundreds of third-party applications, such as those designed for email marketing, ecommerce, customer relationship management (CRM), payment processing, time tracking, payroll services and more. This can save you time by connecting the software to the business programs you already use, allowing you to automatically import, export and sync data in real time among the different services.

    Customer service

    QuickBooks Online provides several support channels to its customers. It offers both phone and chat support, which you can access directly throughout the company s website. Or, if you prefer to troubleshoot problems yourself, the support page has a searchable knowledgebase and a collection of articles, guides and videos. QuickBooks also offers a blog, a user community and training classes. If you want in-person assistance, QuickBooks gives you access to local certified Intuit advisers who can give you one-on-one help on using the software and advising your business.

    When we contacted the company as a small business owner looking for new accounting software, the QuickBooks sales rep we spoke with was pleasant and helpful. He answered our questions, asked about our business and recommended a software plan based on our specific needs. He directed us to areas of the company s website where we could find the information we were looking for and informed us about current discounts and special promotions we could take advantage of, without pressuring us to sign up for an account.

    Other benefits of QuickBooks Online

    One of the biggest benefits of using QuickBooks Online is that it s accountant approved. Not only does it have all the features accountants deem as must-haves for small businesses, but it eliminates the learning curve since most accountants already use QuickBooks, so you won t have to teach them how to use the software.

    If you use an outside accountant, you can avoid compatibility issues since the software allows you to give him or her access to the system. Whether your accountants are helping you take better control of your finances or assisting only with tax prep, using accounting software that they re are already familiar with makes the process easier for everyone involved.

    The QuickBooks sales rep we spoke with also noted that your accountant receives access to your QuickBooks account for free. In other words, your accountant doesn t count toward the number of users allowed by your plan.

    Limitations

    A major drawback to QuickBooks Online is that its mobile app lacks features. Most accounting software products offer a mobile app so you can do your accounting and view your business s finances on the go. However, QuickBooks free mobile app offers only very basic features on iOS and Android devices, limiting what you can do on your phone and tablet. Here s what you can do on those devices:

    • Send invoices
    • Reconcile transactions
    • Take photos of receipts and attach to expenses
    • View customer information and add new customers
    • View dashboard data, such as your account balance, profit and loss report, and open and past due invoices.
