Austrian Airlines

Recommend Airline?
No

I flew several times in 2016 from Innsbruck to Berlin, with stopover in Frankfurt, and the stretch INN-FRA was provided by Austrian. They always use a very very small propeller plane with tiny space inside and despite my hand luggage size was always approved on check in, they carried it always in the luggage van, not in the cabin, and you have to recover if afterwards on the plane foothills on landing; when it rains ( and it happens quite often) and you have to wait a couple of minutes on the airstrip, is not pleasant.
On board service and staff competence from poor to average

Recommend Airline?
No

I want to share a bad experience with Austrian Airlines so others can see what type of Airline Company they are. I recently traveled overseas for work. Austrian Airlines lost my baggage for 6 days. All I had was the outfit that I was wearing. On day 5 my boss instructed me to purchase more clothes. I had to adhere to the company dress code. So on day 5, after wearing the same clothes for 5 straight days without washing, I purchased 2 outfits. The outfits cost about $200 (US). I sent a copy of the receipt and my lost baggage claim to the company email, faxed it to their fax machine, and mailed a copy to Austrian Airlines headquarters. They did not respond to any of my requests. Austrian Airlines did not have the integrity or fortitude as a company to acknowledge the issue. I want everyone who is considering traveling with Austrian Airlines to know the type of business they are and how much they do not care about their customers. If I would have got my luggage prior to spending cash of my pocket book, I would not of thought twice, but the airline has forced me to pay $200 (US) for their mistake. This is poor customer service and business practice. I travel frequently and by far this

Recommend Airline?
No

Appalled at the service I received on a flight from Shanghai to London. The cabin crew were extremely unpleasant, unhelpful & arrogant. The food was bland and looked unappetising to say the least. The selection of movies to watch were good however pointless since the sound quality was extremely poor. I have flown business class with Austrian Airlines previously and they were fantastic however my experience flying economy proves that the level of class you fly obviously determines the service you receive. I most certainly would not recommend this airline to anyone.

Federal Tax Credits: Solar Energy Systems

Solar Water Heaters

Solar water heaters come in a wide variety of designs, all including a collector and storage tank, and all using the sun’s thermal energy to heat water. Solar water heaters are typically described according to the type of collector and the circulation system.

At least half of the energy generated by the “qualifying property” must come from the sun. The system must be certified by the Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC) or a comparable entity endorsed by the government of the state in which the property is installed.

Note: The credit is not available for expenses for swimming pools or hot tubs. The water must be used in the dwelling.

Photovoltaic systems must provide electricity for the residence, and must meet applicable fire and electical code requirements.

Tax Credit includes installation costs.

Solar Panels (Photovoltaic Systems)

Solar Panels or Photovoltaic Systems are solar cells that capture light energy from the sun and convert it directly into electricity.

Requirements
Photovoltaic systems must provide electricity for the residence, and must meet applicable fire and electrical code requirements.

Career Facts – Accounting Program – Business and Economics Department – Lansing

Accounting Program Career Facts

What They Do:

Accountants and auditors prepare, analyze, and verify financial reports and taxes and monitor information systems that furnish this information to managers in business, industry, and government.

The major fields of accounting are public, management, and government accounting. Public accountants have their own businesses or work for public accounting firms. They perform a broad range of accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting activities for their clients, who may be corporations, governments, nonprofit organizations, or individuals. Management accountants (also called industrial, corporate, or private accountants) record and analyze the financial information of the companies for which they work. Other responsibilities include budgeting, performance evaluation, cost management, and asset management Government accountants and auditors maintain and examine the records of government agencies and audit private businesses and individuals whose activities are subject to government regulations or taxation.

Within each field, accountants often concentrate on one aspect of accounting. For example, many public accountants concentrate on tax matters, such as preparing individual income tax returns and advising companies of the tax advantages and disadvantages of certain business decisions.

Increasing numbers of accounting graduates are working in private corporations. Management accountants analyze and interpret the financial information corporate executives need to make sound business decisions. They also prepare financial reports for non-management groups, including stockholders, creditors, regulatory agencies, and tax authorities. Within accounting departments, they may work in financial analysis, planning and budgeting, cost accounting, and other areas.

Who Would Enjoy It:

People with accounting jobs understand information systems and are skilled at working with computers to gather, report, and interpret information. Skills in human relations and interviewing are essential because accountants need to understand and solve financial problems for other people.

Accounting covers a wide variety of jobs including Financial Reporting, Income Tax Research and Preparation, Information Systems Design, Auditing, Budget Preparation, and Cost Accounting. Levels of accounting jobs range from clerical bookkeeping to Vice-President of Finance/Chief Financial Officers.

What They Earn:

The average starting salary for someone with a bachelor s degree is about $35,000 per year, yet salaries ranged from $30,000 to $40,000. Those with 1 to 3 years experience will increase to about $50,000 a year, with salaries ranging from $30,000 and $60,000 in the higher management positions. After 10 to 15 years of experience in this field, one may earn up to $110,000 per year. Starting salaries with an associate degree vary with the individual s education and work experience. Bookkeeping jobs for students working on a degree vary from $8.00 per hour on up depending upon education and experience.

How Many Jobs Available:

Employment of accountants and auditors is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through the year 2014. Each year, several hundred thousand jobs for bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks will become available as these clerks transfer to other occupations or leave the labor force. The large size of the occupation ensures plentiful job openings, including many opportunities for temporary and part-time work.

How Much Schooling, Training, or Skill Development:

Most professional accountant and internal auditor positions require at least a bachelor s degree in accounting or a related field. However, many employers are beginning to prefer candidates who have earned a master s degree. A variety of bookkeeping and paraprofessional accounting jobs are available for people with less than an associate degree. There appears to be a growing trend for these jobs to request a minimum of an associate degree.

Accountants traditionally have been detail-oriented and that is still important, but modern accountants require a much broader set of abilities. The modern accountant needs highly developed analytical skills to deal with the ever-changing business environment. Good oral and written communication skills are a necessity. Interpersonal skills are highly desirable. The ability to effectively work with computers is a necessity. Computerization lessened the focus on repetitive, detail-oriented work in accounting in favor of analysis and communication.

Based on recommendations made by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, most states currently require CPA candidates to complete 150 semester hours of college coursework. Students already holding a bachelor s degree in another field who earn an associate degree in accounting may meet the educational qualifications for the CPA examination and entry into professional levels of accounting. In Michigan, the 150-hour law can be met with LCC classes if the student has a 4-year degree already.

Test drive tips #drive #star #insurance

#

Test drive tips

A thorough test drive is vital. It’s your best chance to make sure you’re comfortable, that you’ll enjoy driving the car and that it’s right for all your needs. Main dealers might even be prepared to let you test drive a new car for an extended time or even overnight – don’t be shy to ask.

If you’re buying a second–hand car, the test drive is even more important. It’s your main opportunity to make sure everything’s in good working order – unless you’ve arranged for an engineer to look over the car for you.

Insurance

Dealers will have special cover in place but there’s a good chance you won’t be covered if you test drive a car sold privately.

Check your own car insurance – you are looking for the words on the policy that says you can ‘drive another car with the owner’s permission’. This is known as DOC or Driving Other Cars cover.

  • Cover, if included, is usually third party only
  • The seller might have extended their cover temporarily to ‘any driver’ to cover test drives
  • Talk to your insurer if you are unsure.

Your own insurer may offer you comprehensive cover over a short period of time so that you can test drive cars you are thinking of buying.

Try to take your time on a test drive, even if you feel the seller breathing down your neck.

Try to drive more than one example if you’re looking at an unfamiliar model. This will give you a better idea of what that car should feel like to drive and may help you to tell the difference between characteristics and possible faults.

  • Allow at least half an hour and drive on all kinds of road – a test drive in a town is of little use if you spend most driving time on a motorway.
  • Can you get in and out of the car easily?
  • Can you adjust the seat and steering so you’re comfortable?
  • Can you see the instruments clearly and reach the controls easily?
  • Try reversing into a parking space to check all round vision and blind spots.
  • Take your children with you – are they comfortable in the back?
  • Take any child seats you use with you and check that they fit
  • Is there space for your regular shopping bags, luggage, golf clubs, pushchair etc? Can you fold the rear seats easily?
  • Is the boot sill low enough? Will you be able to unload shopping and luggage easily from the back?
  • Is it easy to take out and re–fit removable seats? Ask the owner’s permission before you try.
What to look for.
Engine and suspension

The engine should be cold before you start – feel the bonnet. If it’s warm, the seller could be trying to hide a starting problem.

Check for signs of excessive smoke when you start the car and when you’re driving. The engine should be quiet and pull smoothly.

Listen for unusual rattles or clonks from the suspension.

Steering and brakes

Steering should be responsive with no vibration or ‘free play’.

Brakes should give confidence and stop the car in a straight line.

Clutch and gears

Can you engage all gears smoothly without crunching?

If the clutch doesn’t start ‘biting’ until the pedal has nearly reached the top, the clutch could be worn and may need to be changed.

For more information on what to look for during and after the test drive, see our DIY inspection .

Family

If you’re buying a family car then take your children with you – it’s better to hear their objections before you buy, rather than every time you take them out.

Electric cars

Electric cars such as the i-MiEV, iOn, C-Zero and LEAF are starting to appear in dealer showrooms now but should you approach test driving a new electric car any differently

There are two aspects that need special consideration – range and charging time .

Disappointing fuel consumption from a new petrol or diesel car – compared with official figures – means only more frequent visits to a filling station. But an electric car that doesn’t live up to range expectations could leave you walking the last few miles home from work every evening.

If you’re expecting an electric car to be a practical alternative to a petrol or diesel then you really need to borrow one for a day or two.

You need the car long enough to be able to make sure that it suits your lifestyle:

  • Can you get to work and back on a single charge – or can you charge it enough while you’re there to make the return journey?
  • Once you’ve got home is there enough left in the batteries to make your regular evening trips – children, sports, shopping – without a recharge?
  • If you only make shorter journeys how often are you likely to have to recharge – and what would be the consequence of forgetting to plug the car in one night?

You will also need to find out where public charging points are located – particularly in and on the way to places you might visit frequently.

Check with your employer too rather than assume you’ll be able to charge the batteries while you’re at work, if that’s in your plan.

Cold weather, use of electrical items such as lights and heaters, and carrying loads/passengers will all reduce the car’s range on a full charge as will a heavy right foot.

To get a good idea of the car’s true range:

  • Drive as you intend to drive normally
  • If you regularly carry passengers take them with you on the test drive
  • Switch on everything electrical

Even then you’ll need to allow some safety margin as maximum range will drop over time as the batteries get older.

(Updated 3 April 2012)

Oh no, you’re leaving!
