20 Unique Business Ideas That You Can Start Today

Small businesses are the backbone of America’s economy, no question about it. The numbers speak for themselves:

29 million = Number of small businesses in the US.

500 million = Number of patents filed annually in the US.

50% = Half of the private sector is employed by small businesses.

All it takes is one unique business idea and you could be there too. But coming up with an idea is the very thing that keeps a lot of people from moving forward at all.

The best business ideas are the simple ones that aim to solve a problem or fill a need. Good entrepreneurs are always asking ‘how can this be better’ or ‘what would fix this problem?’

These questions will get you thinking outside of the box and might be the fuel you need to think up a great business idea. But for those who just need a little inspiration, you can look to the business ideas listed in this article.

Turning Your Business Idea into a Business

We can talk about business ideas all day, but you won’t get anywhere unless you get up and do something about it. PT has a bunch of resources to help you get started with your business, so use them as a guide.

20 Unique Business Ideas That Don’t Suck

Private Lesson Instructor – Music, sports, and dance are the most common types of lessons out there, but the possibilities are endless. What is something that you enjoy doing that others might like as well? You just have to be willing to teach and you can start your own studio one lesson at a time.

Event Planning – If you’re an organized person, you’ll probably do well with an event planning business. If you enjoy coordinating elements of weddings, parties, and other occasions, this could be a great side business for you. Plus, there’s little overhead involved, which means more money in your pocket.

Personal Trainer – If you spend a lot of time in the gym, why not capitalize on it? People make promises at the beginning of each year to get in shape, so be ready to heavily promote your services in November and December. You’ll also need to be ready to get people in shape for the summer, so make sure to get the word out around March each year. If you really want to make money with economies of scale, create a ‘boot camp’ class and charge admission.

Mobile Detailing – This was one of the first businesses I started as a teenager and actually lasted through college. The start up costs were less than $100 and you could easily make that with one or two jobs. Don’t limit yourself to cars and trucks – think bigger and target people with boats, planes, and RVs.

DJ for Events – How many weddings have you been to with a terrible DJ? If you have an ear for music and throwing parties, you might consider starting a business as a DJ.

Videographer – The door to technology is wide open today giving video production aficionados the ability to use their creativity for profit. A good quality HD video camera, sound equipment, and video editing software can put you on your way to creating online videos and even TV commercials for local businesses. You can even stay small scale and target small events like weddings and graduations.

Massage Therapy – Opening a spa could be a great business if done right. Obtaining your massage therapy certification can take a few months, but it may be the ticket to a great side business.

Lawn Care Business – One of my first businesses after college was a lawn care business. It’s surprisingly easy to get started as long as you’re willing to do the work. The biggest hurdle was battling the changes in weather, but it was a good business overall.

Freelance Designer – If you have an eye for designing ads and other graphics, you can turn it into a profitable business. This is the perfect business idea for creative college students or for a stay at home parent who wants to make extra money. Really gain traction with your business by joining Odesk or Elance.com for even more exposure.

Tutor Students – My wife makes extra money by tutoring other medical school students in anatomy. The possibilities are endless when it comes to types of students and subjects so don’t be afraid to let others know of your willingness to tutor. If you have too many people coming to you for help, you might consider hiring out others to cover the lessons.

Freelance Writer – You don’t need to be a blogger to make money online almost immediately. If you’re willing to research topics and write articles, you can start up a freelance business and make anywhere from $15 to $50 or more an article. If you have a favorite blog that you read, ask the editor if they hire staff writers and you might just land your first writing gig.

Photographer – A quality photographer can charge upwards of $2,000 $4,000 or more for weddings and other events. A few gigs each year could result in a healthy little business for someone who is good with a camera.

Pet Hotel – Taking care of pets while people are on vacation can be a nice way to earn extra money. It can even turn into a full-fledged business if you’re willing to turn an outside shed into a temperature controlled pet hotel. I thought the idea was crazy too, until I needed to board my dog for a week and found a small business in our town called the Hound Hotel. With over twenty rooms at $15 a night, they were making a nice stream of income with their doggy hotel.

Web Designer – When PT dove into blogging full time, he supplemented his business income by making websites with wordpress. Spend some time researching custom wordpress thems and you’ll be able to develop sites for businesses, churches. and other bloggers too.

Tech Support – Small businesses don’t always have the money to hire a full time IT department and that’s where you come in. Contract with small businesses to be their 24-hour tech support or provide online support to websites owners who are clueless when it comes to fixing a crashed site.

Interior Designer –Some states require that you pass a certification test to become an interior designer. If you’re serious about this business idea, that should be good news to you – a lot of people might give up on pursuing it as a business with this barrier to entry. Don’t let that keep you from starting a business as an interior designer if you’re really passionate about it!

Create an Online Store – A while back, PT interviewed Steve Chou of MyWifeQuitHerJob.com and discussed how his wife earned a six-figure income by creating an online store. They didn’t even know how to spell HTML, but ended up figuring out how to make a profitable store online within a year. Listen to the podcast if you’re curious how they did it.

Health Consultant – This is another area that might require certification depending on your state. If you want to become a registered dietitian or nutritionist, you may need to pass an exam and take continuing education courses. But the overall job outlook for this field is expected to rise, so now might be a good time to get started with business as a health consultant.

Blogger – There’s no question that a blog can eventually develop into a business. Revenue from advertising, affiliate sales, products, and eBooks can turn a website into business in itself – but it takes time. For nearly every full time blogger out there, it started as a hobby and grew into a business. If you’re curious to read more of what PT has to say about it, read his article on how to make money blogging .

Solve Problems – The last idea is a little vague, but it’s really all about creating something that people need and going after it 100%. One of my favorite new businesses (or ‘why didn’t I think of that’ idea) is Dollar Shave Club. For $1 a month, they’ll send you a razor every month – genius! Their video has gone viral and the idea is catching on. They identified a problem and started a business to fix it – and that’s what it’s all about.

Let’s keep the conversation going below. Leave a comment, with a good business idea that you’ve been thinking about lately.

Great article! I can only add that all of these professions are pretty common and competition is severe. So it would be reasonable to choose one of these professions and find own unique business niche. For example, if we talk about becoming a tutor, then it could be not just teaching students maths or physics, but giving them some special, knowledge. Like, for instance, consulting them about leadership and other skills that they might need to be successful in their lives after the graduation. Actually, this is an example from real life.

this is such a creative ideas for business i am really honestly speaking that while reading i just click on mind for my website related business where actually i am working as a owner

Stock Market Today: Market Bliss as Crude Oil Craters

The session was quiet, but there s a storm brewing

Aug 1, 2016, 5:43 pm EDT | By Anthony Mirhaydari. InvestorPlace Market Strategist

U.S. equities mostly moved lower on Monday amid relatively quiet trading. The super-tight trading range that s followed the historic post-Brexit rebound moved into its fourth week as volatility is smashed lower.

But this apparent calm belies the accelerating selloff underway in crude oil, which is down nearly 23% from its high after falling below the $40-a-barrel benchmark for the first time since April. You wouldn t know it by looking at the sideways skid in large-cap stocks, but oil has entered a new bear market driven by a return of oversupply worries.

In the end, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.2%, the S P 500 Index lost 0.1%, the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.4% and the Russell 2000 ended the day 0.1% lower. Further, Treasury bonds were weaker, the dollar was higher, gold gained 0.2% and oil fell 3.7%.

Energy stocks led the decliners with a 3.3% loss followed by telecom and materials. Technology stocks put in a strong showing, with FANG icon Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN ) up 1.2%. SolarCity Corp (NASDAQ: SCTY ) fell 7.4% as it reached a final deal to be acquired by Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA ) in an all-stock deal with around $2.6 billion. Separately, Trina Solar Limited (ADR) (NYSE: TSL ) gained 25.2% after agreeing to be taken private in an all-cash deal worth $1.1 billion.

The decline in crude was encouraged by a Reuters report that OPEC output likely increased to a record in July and a Bloomberg article that hedge fund bets again energy have increased by the most since at least 2006. Data from Yardeni Research also shows a recent bounce in U.S. drilling rig counts.

As a reminder, recent concern has focused on swollen gasoline inventories, which have pinched refiner margins and slowed cracking activity, which in turn threatens to worsen the glut of crude.

The weakness in energy stocks appears to just be getting started as shares of stocks like Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE: XOM ) has badly disconnected from crude oil during the February-July rebound driven by hopes of an OPEC-Russia oil supply freeze deal.

XOM fell through last week s lows in what looks like a looming test of its 200-day moving average not touched since February. The company reported a top- and bottom-line miss last week, with earnings of 41 cents per share missing expectations for 64 cents on a 22% drop in revenue to $57.7 billion.

Valuations are ridiculous: Consider that XOM s current trailing twelve-month price-to-earnings ratio is nearly double what is considered fair value.

The decline boosted the Aug $94 XOM puts recommended to Edge Pro subscribers to a gain of 314% since recommended on July 21.

The oversupply is only going to get worse. Libya announced oil ports closed due to civil unrest are to resume exports, Iran is aggressively ramping output now that sanctions have been lifted, Saudi Arabia just cut the price of oil to Asian markets, and Russia s energy minister said he did not see a coordinated action on curtailing oil output with OPEC.

Also weighing on sentiment were hawkish comments from NY Fed President William Dudley that the futures market was too complacent about the risk of more than one quarter-point interest rate hike by the end of 2017. He reiterated that a hike was possible ahead of the presidential election in November.

All of this threatens the quietest few weeks in the stock market in decades. Yet even within this relative calm, there is evidence of weakness: After a record of nine straight up days the Dow is now down six days straight. That s the worst result since last August.

About – Business Today #business #lending

#business today

From the beginning, in 1968, our mission has been to create a dynamic forum for influential business leaders to interact with top undergraduate students from campuses worldwide, and to educate the leaders of tomorrow.

Business Today Magazine

Our oldest program, the Business Today Magazine, is the most widely distributed undergraduate publication in North America. With a significant direct-to-student distribution, we reach students from dozens of campuses all across America. Since our founding in 1968, we have published over 100 issues of Business Today. All of our operations are done in-house – writing, compiling, editing, designing, publishing, distributing – by our Magazine team. Remaining true to our mission, we distribute the magazine at absolutely no cost to our readers. Our content consists of exclusive executive interviews, student-written articles, and BT originals. We receive article submissions from contributors all over the world, and take care to compile those that fit best into our theme. Recent executives interviews include: Paul Volcker, Former Chairman of the Federal Reserve; Michael Ostrove, CEO of Paul Stuart, Ian and Shep Murray, Co-CEOs of Vineyard Vines; Bryan Schreier, General Partner at Sequoia Capital; Martha Stewart; and Clive Brown, COO of J.P. Morgan.

Our most interactive program, our Conference Series, brings together students and executives in a meaningful, face-to-face forum twice a year. The Conferences are our second-oldest program, and certainly one of our most popular, with thousands of applicants from over 30 different countries and 6 continents. We are very proud to say that all of our Conferences are free of cost or heavily subsidized for all student attendees, following our mission of providing access to all undergraduates from different geographies or socioeconomic status.

Our International Conference is in its 42nd iteration in 2016, and will take place in New York City from November 20th – 22nd, 2016. As Business Today’s flagship program, the IC hosts 150 students from all corners of the world. With inspiring keynote speeches, intimate seminars (both on-site and at corporate headquarters), an engaging case study competition, and a new seed-funding competition, the International Conference is the hub for incredible dialogue between students and executives. Past keynote speakers include Jeff Immelt, CEO of General Electric; Muhtar Kent, CEO of Coca-Cola; Wendy Kopp, Founder of Teach for America; and Steve Schwarzman, CEO of Blackstone. This year’s theme is “Rise of the Millennial Generation: Bridging the Gap.”

Women in Business Conference:

We launched our first Women in Business Conference in November 2015. Business Today’s Women in Business Conference provides female students from all backgrounds with the cost-free opportunity to attend a mentorship-focused conference that helps to develop an understanding of what challenges women face in the business world and how to overcome them. Past keynotes include Anna Sedgley, CFO of Dow Jones, Beth Comstock, Vice Chair of General Electric, and Barbara Byrne, Vice Chairman of Barclays. This year’s conference will take place in NYC in October.

For the past three years, we have partnered with Sequoia Capital to address the gap between West Coast start-ups and East Coast students. We are bringing together more than 250 of the brightest engineers and a handful of venture-backed start-ups to New York City both to learn from intimate seminars and keynotes, as well as to interview on-site for job openings. Past keynote speakers include Bryan Schreier, General Partner of Sequoia Capital; Bob Lee, CTO of Square; Vladimir Tenev, Co-Founder of Robinhood; Drew Houston, Co-Founder of Dropbox; and Patrick Collison, Co-Founder of Stripe.

One of our newest programs, the Digital Platform bears the mission of breaking down geographic barriers and creating a dynamic forum for students and executives all around the world. Furthermore, it allows us to capture and present our content from all of our programs, and make it accessible to students all over the globe. The Digital Platform was designed to be a highly interactive, content-oriented site, where students can come to read and contribute to conversations that are meaningful to them. We have exclusive executive interviews, articles written by both students and executives in response to each other, as well as exclusive content from all of our other programs.

With several outstanding programs beyond the Princeton campus, the Seminar Series looks back toward our academic community and works to connect executives with students here in Princeton. The gap we address is closer to home, creating a forum for Princeton students and corporate executives at our university, which does not have a business school. We work with companies in a wide range of industries to create a customized seminar that will be both engaging and educational for the self-selected students who attend the seminar. Our seminars strive to foster genuine discussions about a range of topics affecting today’s world. Past seminars include Howard Schultz, CEO and Chairman of Starbucks; Madeline Jacobs, CEO of the American Chemical Society; Jim Goldman, CEO of Godiva Chocolatier; Jonathan Mariner, CFO of Major League Baseball; Hiromichi Morimoto, President and CEO of Mitsubish Heavy Industries America, Inc.; Ron Meyer, Vice Chairman of NBCUniversal; and Jack Dorsey, Co-founder and CEO of Twitter and Square.

Our leadership consists of over a dozen officers, all Princeton undergraduates, who have dedicated a considerable amount of their time to the organization. Each of us directs a different program of the organization, with Asst. Directors and Staff on each team. This year, our organization has more than 60 active members, making it one of the largest student organizations on campus.

Feel free to email any of us with feedback, comments, or inquiries. We are always committed to improving the organization.

What Happened in the Stock Market Today

Source: Yahoo Finance.

Job growth slowed down last month, according to the latest official economic data. Employers added 151,000 jobs in August, below expectations and down significantly from the 275,000 jobs added in July. Still, the longer-term trend is stable. After accounting for revisions, the job market has now grown by an average of 232,000 per month over the past three months. That number will likely figure prominently in the Federal Reserve’s debate over whether or not to raise interest rates after its next meeting, which concludes on September 21 .

Meanwhile, earnings news sent a few stocks sharply lower even as broader indexes rose. These include Verifone (NYSE:PAY ) and Lululemon (NASDAQ:LULU ). which both posted double-digit losses on Friday.

Verifone’s revenue stumbles

Verifone was one of the market’s biggest losers, slumping 16% following disappointing quarterly results. The payments solutions specialist’s sales turned surprisingly negative, with revenue slipping 3% to $493 million. In contrast, CEO Paul Galant and his executive team had projected $515 million of sales. “Q3 was a challenging quarter for Verifone on revenues,” Galant said in a press release on Friday. The good news is that profitability held up, and cost cuts allowed the company to hit its earnings target. Verifone managed a 7% boost in EPS.

However, there appear to be persistent challenges surrounding the rollout of the EMV payment platform that handles chip-enabled credit cards. These will continue into the current quarter, Verifone warned, and will be a drag on growth. As a result, full-year revenue will stop at $2 billion, rather than the $2.1 billion they forecast in late May. Projected earnings got a bigger downgrade and will now be roughly $1.65 per share, compared to the prior $1.85 outlook.

Executives are confident that the issues that tripped up sales growth come from a mix of “difficult but temporary local market” issues and a slower than expected introduction of the EMV system. Investors who agree with that assessment might be tempted to take a closer look at this stock, which is down almost 50% in the last twelve months.

Lululemon’s profitability growth

Lululemon’s stock took a step back from all-time highs, dropping 11% after announcing its quarterly earnings results. The retailer had plenty of good news for investors in this report. Comparable store sales growth was 3% — on par with the prior quarter’s result and right within management’s guidance. While it could have been higher, that’s an impressive pace given the weak selling environment for most apparel retailers these days .

The company didn’t have to resort to price cuts to keep customer traffic humming along, either. Gross profit margin improved by two percentage points to reach 49% of sales. “The second quarter demonstrated strong results as we delivered sales and EPS at the high-end of our guidance and saw an important inflection in our gross margin,” CEO Laurent Potdevin said in a press release.

Lululemon raised its sales and profit outlook for the rest of the year, but perhaps not by as much as investors had hoped, given the run-up in the stock lately. Shareholders may have been holding out for stronger growth, but with profitably finally climbing after four years of declines, and with inventories down from the prior year, the company is in good shape headed into the key holiday shopping season.

Tim Fraticelli founded Faith and Finance. where he’s on a mission to save people thousands of dollars each year with his free eBook How to Coupon .

Actually, this is an example from real life.

this is such a creative ideas for business i am really honestly speaking that while reading i just click on mind for my website related business where actually i am working as a owner
this is really a amaze. i have never ever feel like this ..

Tim Fraticelli founded Faith and Finance. where he’s on a mission to save people thousands of dollars each year with his free eBook How to Coupon .

Actually, this is an example from real life.

this is such a creative ideas for business i am really honestly speaking that while reading i just click on mind for my website related business where actually i am working as a owner
this is really a amaze. i have never ever feel like this ..

Stocks finished higher this week even as today s release of the August payrolls report did little to clarify the direction of monetary policy.

The S P 500 advanced 0.5% this week after rising 0.4% to 2,179.98 today. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.5% this week after advancing 72.66 points, or 0.4%, to 18,491.96 today. The Nasdaq Composite rallied 0.6% this week after gaining 0.4% to 5,249.90 today.

Today s August payrolls report was supposed to provide direction for the Federal Reserve and perhaps the market as well. It did not. Marketfield s Michael Shaoul explains:

    About – Business Today #business #to #business

    #business today

    #

What You Need to Know About Stock Markets Today

By Anne Kates Smith | October 2010

Thanks to electronic trading, the stock market is wilder than ever.

Editor’s Note: We are re-featuring this guide to understanding the markets in light of the announcement on February 15 that the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange has agreed to merge with Deutsche Boerse. The merger would create the world’s largest operator of financial markets. Deutsche Boerse shareholders would own 60% of the merged company; NYSE Euronext shareholders, 40%. The text below has been updated since publication in the October 2010 issue of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance and the data is as of February 16, 2011.

    1. There’s no “there” there. You may picture a bustling exchange, where commerce begins and ends with the clang of a bell. But the “stock market” is an increasingly fragmented collection of more than 50 trading platforms, almost all electronic, with various protocols, rules and oversight.

    2. The Big Board has shrunk. Images of the New York Stock Exchange still dominate business-news broadcasts. But, in fact, just 34% of the trading volume in stocks listed on the NYSE actually occurs on the exchange, down from 79% in 2005. Nasdaq, the first electronic exchange, accounts for about one-fifth of all U.S. stock trading. Newer exchanges, such as Direct Edge, in Jersey City, N.J. and BATS Exchange, in Kansas City, Mo. each account for about 10% of trading volume. About 30% of U.S. trading volume takes place off exchanges.

    3. ECNs are the new matchmakers. Electronic communication networks match up buy and sell orders at specified prices for institutional investors and brokers. This is where “after-hours” trading occurs. In addition, hundreds of broker-dealers execute trades internally, filling orders out of their own inventory.

    4. Some trades are shrouded in mystery. You’ve heard of dark stars. Now there are dark pools — private networks, sponsored by securities firms, where professionals trade without displaying price quotes to the public beforehand. Such dark pools account for more than 10% of stock-trading volume. The Securities and Exchange Commission wants to make dark pools more transparent to avoid a two-tier market that denies the public important pricing information.

    5. You’re sure to get the best price — most days. According to an SEC rule, your trade is supposed to be routed to the platform with the best price at that moment. But when some venues aren’t functioning as normal, exchanges may override the rule. The rule didn’t apply during the “flash crash” of May 2010, when an intentional slowdown on the NYSE caused orders to be routed elsewhere, at lower prices.

    6. There are fewer traffic cops. In the old days, specialists and market makers kept markets liquid by stepping up to buy — or sell — when a stampede of investors headed the other way. Now, not all exchanges require market makers. High-frequency traders, who program computers to profit from minute price discrepancies and can execute trades in milliseconds, were supposed to fill the void. But they don’t have to, despite the fact that they often account for 50% or more of total trading volume.

    7. Stoplights are coming. A pilot plan, recently extended until April, calls for stock-by-stock circuit breakers that would be applicable across all trading platforms. The plan currently applies to stocks in Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index, the Russell 1000 index and certain exchange-traded funds, and calls for a trading pause if the share price changes by 10% within a five-minute period. Since December, market makers in exchange-listed securities have been required to maintain continuous buy and sell quotes within a certain range of a security’s most recent share price, putting an end to occasionally ridiculous quotes, far removed from prevailing prices, that were never meant to be executed.

At present, around three-fourths of the revenues of telcos operating in India are generated from voice calls. With its unlimited free calling offer, Jio is hitting the telcos where it hurts most. The biggest threat, therefore, is the possibility of customers migrating to Jio.
